I think they are just trying to run fast and get jobs done quick without taking time for the quality work that you are expecting with what you are paying. My floors do look wonderful though!

We were drawn to this company because they offered faster dry time and ability to stay in the basement while they worked. We should have done much more research. It has only been 2 1/2 years and the floors have non-removable stains, and plenty of scratches/dings. While the finish on our old floor stood up for a much longer period of time, I was totally disappointed with the continued poor performance of this floor work. And, please keep this in mind, upon leaving, SVB gave us an entire BONA kit for care of wood floors. About 8 months ago I called SVB and requested that they come out and give me some reason for the floor performance being so poor. They prodded around and said that the stains were not able to be lifted. AND THEY ARE VERY NOTICABLE. The representative asked what I used to clean the wood floors. I told him I was using the BONA products that had been left when the floor was completed. The representative said, that this product use would void my guarantee or any warranty. So now, 2 1/2 years down the road I have an expensive refinished floor that looks just about as bad as the old one. I do not recommend this dealer for floor finishing. They may have groovy equipment, but their process and support are sorely lacking.

We planned on staining our fence and our newly installed deck. We had used Renew Crew in the past…read moreand thought we would give them another shot, primarily because I liked Wayne. The prior last stain only lasted about a year and began peeling after about 6 months because an acrylic based transparent was used instead of an oil-based semi-transparent. This was about 9 years ago. I will say Wayne, one of the owner's, arrived on time for the quote, and was super friendly as always, but I soon realized why the prior deck stain had peel so quickly. They used a transparent stain on a 20 something old deck when an oil-based semi-transparent should have been used. In addition, the deck gets direct sunlight most of the day, and the last time they stained it was mid-morning to early afternoon. So the acrylic dried too quickly which caused it to peel. When I inquired about semi-transparent options, Wayne stated they only use transparent. As said before, transparent is totally inappropriate for older fences and decks. We had already received several other quotes, and the pricing for Renew Crew was totally out of the ballpark. Plus, we had no intention on using them again if the staining process was not going to change. In addition, they listed out on the invoice that they charge a fee for credit cards. Charging any type of fee for credit cards in the state of Kansas is illegal. Refer to 2012 Kansas Legislature statute 16a-2-403. When I brought it to their attention, Wayne's business partner repeatedly argued with me by text message, saying they are allowed to charge if despite referring him to the legislation. He believed because the state can charge it on transactions that they can as well. The state can charge it for different reasons listed in this article: https://www.kwch.com/content/news/FF12-Kansas-law-allows-government-to-charge-fee-for-creditdebit-cards-not-private-businesses-568260951.html. After bantering back and forth, he finally stated they would look into it. I advised him they need to proactively fix the problem, refunding the fee to all of their customers. I didn't plan on writing an online review and calling them out on it, because I thought they would likely proactively fix the problem after it was brought to their attention. I have since decided otherwise, because I think their customers need to know that they shouldn't be charging a fee; customers need to proactively make sure the fee is refunded. If they have not refunded fees to customers or continue to charge one, the customer has the right to dispute the fee with their credit card provider.

A lot of people (mainly cheese balls) like to use the broken glass. Since that was not an option, I decided on sand- which matches the fireplace. For fire, you need silica sand and this place has gobs of it. I walked in the front door and three dudes were just staring off into space. Not a big day at the rock store. I told them what I wanted and one guy got off his chair a pulled a box out from beneath the counter of all these sand samples in vials. The difference in the grains of sand were in millimeters. I rolled them around in the light, like a discerning drug dealer, finally choosing one based on the guys recommendation. Ordered a 100 lb bag based on the dimensions of the fireplace, paid the $20 and drove over to the loading dock. Mexican radio blasted as we waited in our borrowed van for the drop off. A beefy dude comes running at the van like a linebacker and body slams the bag in the back sliding door. He then starts yanking the door closed while it is closing automatically. He finally realizes it and steps back and waves goodbye. How easy breezy was that? My mind started racing. What other kind of rock do I need? Where can I put more rock? Will that bolder fit in the van? How much for those river rocks? When you like to shop, I guess it crosses over to all categories! Now I want more rock. I get home and this one bag fills my fireplace exactly! It was too perfect. Kind of bummed I don't get to go back to the rock store. :(

I recently dealt directly with Sturgis Stone for the first time in my career. The customer service is good, but the Cavanal precut stone they have in stock is a nightmare. The boxes were full of practically triangular pieces that I had to cut on at least 3 sides, which caused a lot of waste. I had to go get some more stone (due to the waste), and it did not match the first stones I got at all. The guy at the store was nice enough to let me exchange the boxes, though it was pretty time consuming digging into box after box, searching through what appeared to be someone else's remnants to find enough pieces that would be a close enough match to work. I ended up putting 105 square feet of stone on a 72 square foot fireplace, which drove the material cost up outrageously and caused me a lot of money. They also cut me a very large hearth, which turned out beautifully.

About 15 years ago, I had a flagstone patio and walkway installed in my backyard by a different firm. Since then, it has been a regular maintenance problem, requiring service about once every two years. Perhaps the AB3 foundation installed below the flagstones might not have been adequate. The grout between the stones sometimes cracks, needing repair. The stones tend to settle producing an uneven surface. Layers and pieces of the stones break off. About every other year, I've hired someone to service the patio. They often install new grout into the cracks in the old grout to repair the cracked grout and reseal the patio to protect from winter damage. Sometimes they pressure wash the patio before sealing. That looks really good, but the pressure washing tends to do more damage to the stones. Different firms have dealt with these repairs in different ways, but the extent of the problems needing repair have gotten progressively worse. When James came to my house to inspect the problem, he explained what really needed to be done and sent me a detailed proposal and price by email. The price was reasonable relative to the amount of work that needed to be done. His crew of professionals did the work with great care and expertise. They did not just repair cracked grout. Wherever there was cracked grout, they completely removed the grout and replaced it with new grout. They replaced four of the damaged flagstones with new ones. In areas where the stones had settled, producing a tilted surface, they removed the stones, installed new AB3 foundation to level the surface, and reinstalled the stones. After completing the repairs, they sealed the patio with a professional grade penetrating sealer. The patio now looks like new. Unlike some contractors, who insist on a deposit in advance, James did not request payment until the job was done. He did somewhat more work than was in his original bid, but at no increase in price. I must say it was a pleasure having James and his crew working on my property. They are hard working professions whose work I respect. In addition, it is easy to talk with them. I wish I had known about them years ago. They get the job done right.

I also felt that Dave was very knowledgeable in recommending colors and what would best suite our home. That being said, the end result of the work done left me way less than satisfied. They installed and refinished hardwood floors in our new home and a ton of scratch marks were left all over the place. When I asked about the scratches I was told they were normal and unavoidable, but I've never seen anything like this and from what I've heard from others it's definitely not normal or unavoidable. In addition, I found stain splattered on our wall and a big splotch of it on the floor. Finally, when they installed the base shoe after they were done, it was left chipped on the ends and honestly looks pretty unprofessional. This was a huge expense for our family and I am really disappointed that it didn't turn out better.
