Last night, I hit a fallen road sign hidden in the snow after pulling off a one lane road to let an oncoming car pass. It led to a flat tire. When we had difficulty locating the spare, I sent a text message to Garrett. He indicated that he was in Charleston and came to us immediately, where he not only found the spare tire but proceeded to change out the flat tire in his suit on the dirty, wet, icy ground. He ensured that the service team knew that we would be coming in first thing today for repairs and made sure that a loaner vehicle was available. The tire was repaired within a few hours. Beware, especially if you're planning to travel to see the car. I was in constant communication with a sales man there. I sent pictures of my trade in, and offered repeatedly to do a FaceTime walk around. I had my car assessed for trade ins at my local dealers. I drive 2 hours to buy a car from these guys and I think they just knew they "had me" and didn't think I'd drive 2 hours back empty handed. so they low balled what they gave me over the phone and lower than other reputable dealers in town quoted me. They do not show the Original Window Sticker on their cars offered for sale online. This is a red flag as almost 955 of online auto dealers show the Original Window Sticker and offer a free CarFax report to show transparency and accuracy of the features listed of the vehicle. When I called to ask them to email me the Original Window Stickers, it was never sent. And when I called again, I was put on hold over 10 minutes; and I just hung up. KC Summers is not that motivated to sell their cars; otherwise, they would step up and follow through on these basic requests. Buyers will look online and buy elsewhere. read more

Having to deal.with folks who don't comply with wearing a mask , gives great concerns to many. I have a low immune system. My husband is a heart patient. KC summers has been a go to with our family for years..however, yesterday I was very disappointed coming in to the new store for an oil change, seeing everyone walking around with no mask on..that is just inconsiderate to all customers! Keith who is foremost a leader in this community I am very sad that this is not implemented in their routine. .as I gave my key to the young man, jon the other floor attendant gave me an adamant attitude by me asking why isn't nobody wearing a mask? He told me to pick it up with keith summers. They do not have to wear one. WOW! NOT ONLY WAS HE RUDE TO ME . but I found out later he spoke to a family member who works there and gave her misinformation about how this went down Very unprofessional..I've tried calling keith twice..once I was told he call me back.. as of yet im.not holding my breath. Listen, if a dealer ship or any other business don't give a hood about their customers well fare don't give your business to them! These guys were a pleasure to deal with. I live in Champaign and had researched the car I wanted and checked their inventory on the web first. Then I called Phil Holdren (sales) and we negotiated a price over the phone. I made the easy 45 minute drive down to Mattoon, test-drove the car, and purchased it, and even had time for lunch and espresso at the Common Grounds cafe before heading back to Champaign. Everything was exactly as promised: no surprises, no hassles. In some dealerships, there is a scary sign-the-papers guy in the back room. But at KC Summers, the financing/contract guy was completely up front and reasonable and also a pleasure to deal with--not scary and no high pressure tactics. At first, I thought the dealerships in Champaign/Urbana had a monopoly. But don't believe it! A 45 mile drive is nothing (especially if you come from Chicago) and these guys are very open and up front, no surprises, no hassles. I like the dealerships in Champaign/Urbana too, but a little bit of healthy competition is good for them and good for the consumer too so don't forget how close Mattoon is (Mattoon/Charleston is a nice college town and if you feel like it you can even stop in Arcola on the way). And if you want to break in the engine on your new car slowly, you can even return all the way home on Rt 45 (Neil Street in Champaign). read more

We had had generally good experiences here overall with 3 Toyota Camry purchases. We moved out of the area, and at nearly 100K miles, it was time to replace our original brake pads and rotors on the last Camry we had purchased at Summers. The Toyota technician at another dealership showed us the pads, and they were actually aftermarket pads that were switched out at KC Summers before our car was purchased as a brand new car. Someone in their service department replaced the original manufacturers parts with aftermarket pads without our knowledge. Not good for reputation of the service department in my opinion. read more

Recently I was shopping for a new truck but opted out of Toyota to pursue a dream truck - a mint 96 F250 7.3 Diesel as I only needed a weekend cruiser. However at the same time I was given a 2019 Avalon to drive for work. Turns out to be a great car and an excellent daily. Now if shopping again I would definitely pursue Toyota not because of the car but because of how great the service team has been, especially Chris. My car had a recall they had never seen before and worked with me to make sure it was resolved. We did not purchase or lease the car from KC But they treat me like I did. Amazing to see how professional these people are. The shop is clean. The wait area is clean. The restroom was clean. Every single person I bumped into was polite. No one pressured me on not wearing a mask. Internet speed while waiting on my car was great. My son was able to play video games on his Nintendo Switch while we waited without fail. read more

I looked for a car for almost a year. I knew I wanted something with a 3rd row, but not a MiniVan. I own a Hyundai Sonata and love it, so I decided to stay with Hyundai. I looked for a Santa Fe within 300 mile radius. After emailing car dealership, everyone wanted me to come and see the car in person and I just felt like a fish on a hook being reeled in. Hook was a nice picture of a Santa Fe on cars.com with a deceiving price tag which reflected all of the discounts I could get from being in the military and in college at the same time... Reeling in was everyone who wanted me to make a long drive thinking I would not leave empty handed if I drove so far. So I asked all of the dealers to take a video presenting the car and send it to me. Over the last 3 months of my search, I must have asked this probably 30-40 times. I received various responses: that a video would not truly represent the car, that they did not have time to do it, that the file would be too large.... Only one of them actually took time to prepare a video presentation of the car, upload it to youtube and send me a link. The most transparent and willing to do things for you dealership I have ever encountered. I have worked with a few dealerships and they have made some promises and then were reluctant to or simply did not make good on the promises. The opposite was was true of Doug and his team at KC Summers. They were completely honest about everything throughout the trade process. There was an erroneous statement made in the description of the car we were purchasing. A sincere apology was made and moreover they made the situation right by comping us so we could get the car into the condition they stated it was in. At most places when there is a problem you either have to live with it or throw an enormous fit to get any one's attention. Here, I simply pointed out my problem, they said, "yep, that's a problem," offered me two fair solutions to pick from and promptly followed through on the solution. These guys are great. read more

My husband and I bought a car with Kayleb at KC Summers. It was the easiest experience. They called us to say they had the car in stock, gave us the selling price over the phone (which was lower than we had even expected!), and without seeing the car we were trading in, at least talked some ballpark numbers (when we brought the car in - our trade-in was exactly where he said it would be - which was even more than we had expected as well!). When we showed up, the car was ready for us, Kayleb explained different features of the car, we test drove it, came back and was ready to sit down and sign. As easy as pie! Stopped in today to ask if the dealership bought used cars. The receptionist said yes and would get a manager to help. The manager (Mike Genta) saw me waiting and went to get his phone and then came out of his office and stood looking at his phone doing whatever without acknowledging me. I was just about to turn around and walk out when he walked over and introduced himself. I told him I had two vehicles to sell and when I told him what they were he crinkled his nose. I said okay I was just asking. Thanks anyway. He continued to ask questions and talk in a very condescending manner. He wrote on the back of his business card vin # and miles handed it to me and said send me the vin #. "Do you know where that is?" Not sure who he thought he was dealing with but when I walked out to my luxury car he followed me and seemed to have a change of attitude. I definitely will not be back. I found a Toyota Sequoia while shopping on Cars.com. I was in no hurry to buy, so, I really wanted to find the right truck for the right deal. This was the lowest mileage vehicle that I stumbled across, the price was reasonably within my budget, and it had the right color combo and options. Even though the dealership was 200 miles away, I decided to contact them. So glad I did. The following day, I had a phone call and email from Cindy Boyer. I was transparent in what I was looking for, what I was willing to pay, and what it would take to make the deal work. We went back and forth negotiating once or twice and she really went the extra mile to get the deal done. No games, no funny stuff, always up front and honest. I walked away super happy with the purchase. I asked Cindy to have all the paperwork ready for us when we arrived because we were traveling with an 18 month old and a 7 month pregnant wife. We drove 3.5 hours to make this happen and I am very happy we did. When we arrived, the truck was detailed, filled with gas, I took it on a nice test drive, and threw it on a lift to look underneath. We got back to the dealership, expecting to sit with finance for hours, turning down one extended warranty after another, and even that was pleasant. Literally a 15 minute experience. Purchased a new Hyundai Tucson April 2016 from K.C. Summers Hyundai in Mattoon, Illinois. Paid $34000 for it. It has the horrible combination of a 1.6 liter turbo, 4 cylinder engine with a bucket of bolts, worthless , dual clutch transmission behind it. First of all, I would advise absolutely no one to purchase any Hyundai model having this engine/transmission combination. The engine is way too small, and the DCT just does not work. Also, avoid K.C. Summers in Mattoon, Illinois, and Napleton's Auto Center in Urbana, Illinois at all costs. My vehicle has been to both dealerships. All they will do is park your vehicle on the lot for a few days, do nothing to it, and tell you nothing is wrong with your vehicle. Their motto is, "That is how it is supposed to operate." I guess having the vehicle stall on you in the middle of an intersection and almost getting crashed into by many different cars from all directions, having a transmission temperature hot light come on telling you to pull over, and vibration, jerking, and clunking at low speeds are all typical of a brand new vehicle. There have been many times when the vehicle will just not move at all. The engine will sit and rev to 6 grand, but that POS transmission just doesn't know when to engage. I seriously think there is collusion going on between Hyundai and their network of dealerships. They will put you off, and put you off without any contact at all, until you threaten them. Then, once you do get hold of someone, they will tell you someone from corporate will contact you in 3 to 5 business days. Guess what? 3 to 5 business days never comes, and you have to contact Hyundai again! Once you do get in touch with them, you will again get the same old someone from corporate will contact you in another 3 to 5 business days. When you actually do get to speak to a so called Hyundai corporate representative, they will tell you it isn't their problem, it is a dealership issue. At least that is what Tracy from Hyundai from Aurora, Illinois told me, once I did get to speak to her. She said it was not a Hyundai warranty problem. Hyundai's 10 year warranty is totally bogus. They will not stand behind their vehicles. They will damn sure take your money and sell you one though! Oh, by the way, K.C. Summers did offer to trade us for a used, scratched, and dented 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. All we had to do is take a $12000 loss on our new vehicle, and they would work with us.
