KD and the team repainted a duplex apartment we were renovating. It was a tricky space containing a spiral staircase, high ceilings, brick walls, cabinets, track/recessed/hanging lighting, and a built-in bookcase. We wanted the walls, ceilings, and the cabinets re-done and they didn't flinch at any of it. The project was about 750sq ft of rooms and they tackled it all with what looked like greatest of ease. Start to finish was two days and the team was incredibly pleasant and transparent about questions or concerns. KD Cares painted my apartment: living room, kitchen, hallway and bedroom over President's weekend. The painters: Kris, Dan and Dan were professional, courteous, detail oriented and quick. Kris had confirmed the plan the day before and that I should expect them at 7am. I received a text from Kris at 6:50 am that they had arrived and by 7 am they were starting to paint. Their promptness, and efficient teamwork was terrific. They had finished by 2pm. They then helped me bring in my belongings back into the apartment from the hallway. One of the worst feelings is feeling like someone got one over on you, and this is how I felt after using ProPaintJobs. I will start off by pointing out that Pro paint Jobs did a decent job overall. Kris was very helpful when I found myself in a bind and needed to get three bedrooms and a hallway painted the day after I called. I called on a Thursday and he was able to come that Saturday. He was only able to squeeze me in due to a cancellation. The sole reason I went with ProPaintJobs was due to the immediate availability they had to paint my rooms. The issue I have with this company is the fact that the areas that were agreed upon, to be painted, were not all painted. Once Kris and his team showed up, he realized that the one bedroom which had a particular paint design, couldn't be fully painted due to the ceiling being oil paint. However, the price he quoted me at included painting that particular ceiling. He made no attempt and was not willing to alter the price to reflect the change. Kris and his team started the job on time and the simply painted bedrooms (with no design) were painted quickly and efficiently. However, when it came to the last of the bedrooms, Kris complained about the amount of time and effort it was taking to tape the wall and explained that due to the time it took him to tape the walls he would NOT be able to paint the hallway. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, the price he gave me was for all 3 rooms (one ceiling), the hallway and the trims in the bedrooms. I approached Kris more than once to talk about adjusting the price for the job but he would not consider lowering the price back to the original quote of $900 for painting 3 rooms, trims and one ceiling, even though he wasn't painting that ceiling anyway. Kris claimed that he needed to be paid for the extra time it took to tape. (When he knew he needed to tape those walls prior to going into the job). It was like talking to those car salesmen who talk fast and keep talking until you give up or they get their way. Now I have to look for someone else to paint my hallway and the one bedroom ceiling, but it gets better. Kris still charged me the full price for the entire job although he did not do what I hired him to do. When hiring a painter, you'd think it's safe to assume they know how long it takes or have an idea of how long it takes to tape the wall(s). Clearly not this guy. ( The room by the way is 180 s/f. A pretty small room) The point is, he was aware of what the job entailed prior to his arrival so reneging on the agreement due to his failure to tape the wall in a timely fashion is completely ridiculous. He didn't even offer to come back another day and finish. He just took my money and left. The original quote for the three rooms, one ceiling and trims was $900. The price including the hallway was $1200. The price paid for the three bedrooms, no ceilings and trims was $1200 for a residential house in Brooklyn. Please be aware, this IS NOT professional behavior, or at all reasonable and I feel very taken advantage of. I feel like Kris did this due to the fact that I am young female homeowner, in need of a quick turn around time for the paint job. I won't be calling them again. The only changes that were made on my part were as a result of Kris telling me that he could not deliver on the original paint design I described to him. If you just need a basic paint job, I guess this company would be a good choice. Otherwise, hire someone who takes pride in their customer service and ensuring that their customers are COMPLETELY satisfied. Edit: This is a complete waste of time going back and forth with Kris. I hate when people accuse me of lying, seeing as I have nothing to gain from writing a review. Kris you should really be ashamed of yourself for blatantly lying about the specifics of this job. Attached are photos of our contract, the text messages, and a picture of the most recent lengthy voicemail he left me on 3/3/16 following the review. If I am lying why would a business owner leave me a 2 minute voicemail and text messages trying to bribe me to take my review down. He offered me $100 to take this down. Kris already called yelp to get this same exact review taken down. Kris knows what he did was wrong and now he is harassing me to get this review taken down for a second time. Under my review the first time, he said he gave me a "$100 discount" now it's $200. Maybe in a day or so he will come back and say he did the whole job for me for free. I have the right as a yelp participant and an obligation as a fellow consumer to warn others about anyone who has shady business practices. I would write a review for anyone that I felt was being underhanded. I have no reason to target Kris or his team. I would never call Kris to do anymore work, even the work he was already paid to do. They'd quoted a price and told me it would take 2 days to finish. 4 days later and the job still wasn't complete and they wanted to up the charge to finish?! I bid my one-bedroom apartment paint job out to five Brooklyn-based painters/companies and he was by far and away the most responsive and most professional. AND he came lower than anyone else who responded. His rate, which included purchase & pickup of premium paint on my behalf was came in lower than some other companies where paint was excluded. On the day of the paint job, Chris and his other painter (also Chris!) showed up 20 minutes early, and were extremely courteous and professional. They spent more time than planned on the job, helping to clean up a trouble spot where we had been experimenting with colors a few days before and accidentally applied too much paint. The finished product, which included two accent walls was perfect and exactly what we were looking for.
