Tried out this place for one of our first meals in Calgary as visitors from Toronto. First of all, we were really impressed with their coconut shrimp - they don't smother it in so much batter and sauce like many other places we tried, as you can actually taste the shrimp! Also, their tempura shrimp was huge! Pretty much twice as long as any other shrimp tempura I've had. Additionally, another very notable thing about this place is that they actually didn't miss any of our ordered items, again unlike many other AYCE sushi places that sneakily "forget" your orders (especially of the pricier / fancier items) or bring you a much smaller portion than you requested. The food was tasty, the only downside is that a lot of the rolls and nigiri tended to be rather large (nigiri were all packed full with rice) - we had to leave a lot uneaten and ended up getting slapped with an extra $30 charge. Not great. We ordered a variety of food for delivery, including sushi and some of the Thai dishes. The sushi was okay but rolled poorly and too many rolls were enormous (impossible to eat properly). The Thai dishes were the most regrettable part of the order. Red curry was flavorless but somehow still spicy. The beef and basil was mostly vegetables and the beef was not good (kind of chewy) plus there was almost no sauce on either curry. The tofu in the red curry was those giant fried pieces. The biggest disappointment was the Pad Thai. Almost inedible - it consisted of chicken, noodles, red onion and green pepper. It had no bean sprouts, no egg, no green onion, no tofu. It did not look or taste like Pad Thai whatsoever. I'll try to remember to add a picture of my leftovers later if I decide to eat them. Honestly, a huge waste of $80. read more

For $13 you get a decent lunch bento box, I got the tofu one that came with tempura, veggie spring rolls, rice, a california roll and soup & salad to start. It's filling and worth what you pay, IMO You can order a la carte or do their AYCE option here as well, which I think would probably work better for dinner than lunch read more

Very disappointed. Saw great things online about this restaurant and decided to try it out. I ordered a spicy dynamo roll, and when it was delivered I thought it was a joke. The whole roll was literally cucumber, with little to none of anything else. I ended up choking the roll down, but was not satisfied at all. The food here was decent. The sashimi was fresh, especially salmon and snapper. The cooked dishes surprised me. Chicken satay was tender and tasty. Salmon belly was crispy. Service was fairly good. The only thing I would complain is that there was too much rice in the rolls and sushi. If you don't want to get stuffed that quickly, don't order too much sushi. Went to this restaurant for AYCE Sushi on a weekday. There is a good selection of food in each category, such as appetizers, sushi, sashimi, rolls, etc., which is very similar to other Fusion locations. I like how it has takoyaki (octopus balls) on the menu, which is not offered at most Fusion locations. Salmon sashimi was fresh. I also ordered tuna sashimi but it was tasteless, same for the grilled beef short ribs. The rolls are not bad but they have more rice than how I like them. As for dessert, my favourite was the mango pudding, which was very soft with lots of mango favour. Overall, I think this Fusion location is worth a try if you are in downtown but I do like the Ranchlands location more. read more

Most disgusting sushi I've ever had. Pad thai noodles were overcooked and mushed together, tasted more like a blob of rice cake. Spicy salmon was disgusting.. so basically, they get all the bad shitty quality salmon and chop it up into small mushy pieces and add spicy mayo and bread crumbs to cover up grey/brownish or rotting parts. The rice hasn't been flavored properly and they don't know how to fry their tempuras. I've worked in 3 different sushi restaurants and been to 100+ sushi restaurants over canada (i travel for my job) and it is one of the worst. read more

The vegetable sushi party tray is a great deal! For only $25 you get 40 rolls. We ordered delivery and were impressed with the presentation and assortment of flavours. Some were spicy, some had tempura veggies and some had a sweet mango sauce. My boyfriend and I were impressed. I can't speak for the fish, but this will be my new go-to for veggie rolls! read more

My husband and I have been here a few times since our favourite sushi place shut down for renos (and then never reopened). Generally, service is quick and friendly, food is good for the price. Tonight is a different story. We were one of four tables yet the servers never took away our empty dishes, only stacked new dishes on top and said they would take the empties later. No one stopped to ask how everything was which meant our water glasses sat empty until we had placed both on the edge of the table where every staff member repeatedly walks by. Two of our dishes were just never delivered which can happen, but when it is dead I don't see why it would. The price was increased to $27.95/person because of the holiday but I feel like the service is lacking for that price point. My husband ordered oysters with our first order but they didn't come until we had finished our second order and were getting ready to leave. The topping was burnt which made it really unpleasant. Many of the hot dishes were delivered cold. Long story short, I'm not impressed with the restaurant tonight. Typically things are good or at least okay but tonight was lacking. read more

The first time I came here with my family they were quite busy so we were just ignored by the door, so after a while of being not helped, we just left. Recently I came here to have sushi for a friends birthday. We ordered a sushi boat and a sushi roll boat. The sushi and rolls were okay, nothing special at all. However, in our rolls we found multiple large pieces of plastic inside them. The staff told us that they forgot to remove the plastic from the sushi and and only after our requests, offered a minuscule amount off our meal. The plastic in the sushi could've been a huge choking hazard if it were to be eaten by children. Overall, would not recommend. read more

As a family of professionals and After comparison of Sushi restos here in Calgary this place Fusion 5Ave SE is All hype Only due to its location and set up but the food is a negative that didnt live up to expectations plus customer service is flat. We have to wait for 30+minutes for its in interval order, mango rolls are mushy and tasteless rice is very soft Blue Fin is far better than this in general we wouldnt recommend if youre a family. Please forces on hygiene! This place I Have been to many times, I remember the service and food hygiene was good before, but today was so bad. The table didn't been cleaned completely, there were some oil spots on the surface. And then we found some residue of food in my friend's plate, the worst thing was we found hair in the beef sashimi. However, the waiter never said sorry, they just changed the food and plate . If you cannot maintain the hygiene, you will loss your customers. read more

Having been to other fusion locations, I think this location is the better one. We had dinner buffet on a Sunday. The place was not completely packed so I guess that's partially why the staff were attentive and efficient. The chicken wings were good, the sashimi were very fresh and good quality, the tempura was fresh, and the salmon avocado roll was amazing (large roll with very little rice and lots of salmon and avocado). They also played up the plating decoration. Our orders came out immediately after we placed them on the iPad on our table. Was very pleased with the efficiency. The interior is modern, clean and well kept. Offers table seating, bar seating and booths. Obviously you can't compare an all you can eat buffet to a high end contemporary Japanese restaurant for creativity. I never got to even try the place stood in line by myself at the door for nearly 20 minutes before a hostess who was trying to clean tables and deliver food finally told me oh I'll be back with you in a moment. After another 10 minutes of running around she never came back so they obviously are woefully understaffed. My family went to eat the all we can eat option. And it was a fairly filling experience although they did get one order slightly wrong as we ordered 2 orders of fried tofu but only got 1. Also the Raw Salmon Sashimi was put together with the beef tataki which wasn't ideal for us. But we will come to eat again! read more

We are in Calgary on vacation and stopped in for lunch because it was just about the only thing open in downtown on Saturday afternoon. We decided to have the all-you-can-eat lunch. very bad taste of sushi. Salmon Nigiri does not have any taste also, very bad customer service. if you need to complain to them, they will say they did not do anyting wrong, it's customer's fault. I ordered a special roll through skipthedishes, and wrote "no avocado/cucumber". But it came with cucumber. I called them to say I got it with cucumber, and they said "I should have paid more attention, as I put slash in it, and we decided to put cucumber with it". the server who received my call was REALLY RUDE. if he wants to work in a customer service industry, well too bad as he is not suitable for it, or he needs to change his attitude. He said he will not argue with me, and I need to pay more attention. He was not very good English speaker, and if you search in Google, slash means "used between alternatives (e.g., and). it's his fault who did not pay attention to it's meaning, and he was blaming the customer. I do not want to see him again at this restaurant, and if I happened to, I am going to ask to change my server. I hope manager/owner do special training lesson to him.. read more

My co workers and I go here for lunch regularly (we have been about 10 times now) and the food is consistently excellent. We go for the all you can eat lunch and order on the iPad and the service is prompt. Not the time or place to go if you want special focused service from a waiter as it is more they fly by and deposit food at your table regularly. We love that the servings are small so we can try lots of different items. read more
