The dude abides... Wrapping up a trip to Bloomington with Keg Grove was a great end point to a day trip. A coworker who used to live in Bloomington suggested this place and since they had fruity beer, it took no convincing Emily to swing by there with me. We walked in and it was packed. There was a retirement party going on that kept the single bartender busy with not just them but also slinging drinks behind the bar. We didn't have to wait too long to grab my beer and Emily's flight. We took a seat over by the sweet The Big Lebowski beer tanks. That's right, the beer tanks had Donny, Walter and The Dude from The Big Lebowski on it. I included a photo of the tanks below. I'm not a diehard fan of the movie but I can appreciate this homage for what it is. After being a bit let down at Lil Beaver Brewery, Keg Grove hit it home. The beers we ordered were exactly was we expected them to taste like based on their names. Mine was a Holey Jeans (blueberry wheat) and Emily's flight was Holey Jeans, Cotton Dress Pants (peach wheat), Keg Grove Cream Ale, and Cupcheck (pilsner). Emily and I really liked the Holey Jeans and she especially liked the Cotton Dress. Since I was driving, I stuck to just the one beer but Emily grabbed a coozie, a 16 oz. Cotton Dress, we both grabbed some stickers and a magnet and headed outside. While she was enjoying her last beer before we left, it started pouring down. Everyone booked it inside but we stood under the canopy to avoid the loud crowd inside. My only issue with Keg Grove was the single bartender. Not sure if it was busier than normal but for a Friday and a retirement party booking the upstairs area, I feel like they should've had two working. But I will say that the one working was very peppy and was slinging drinks without seemingly stressing out. Until next time Donny, Walter and The Dude.

Finally got here! After an amazing diner at Reality Bites, us two needed an after party. I had tried many of their excellent drafts around the area and took too long to get to the headway, tip top spot! Friendly service, plenty of room, fun outdoor area even though the rain kept us all inside, my buddy and I split a rich coffee stout. Quite harsh and wonderfully all rolled into one dark draft, this is what I love about coffee craft cooked into beer. It's an almost meaty experience. Can't wait to come back again!

Out with a bunch of friends on a Friday night. Keg Grove really stood tall. All their own beer, great variety and spectacular service. Most beers were available draft and some specialties were available in cans, 12oz bottles or they'll refill your growler. They also serve food. I'll be back.

It was a good experience going to the Keg Grove Brewing Company! I never knew that it is in a little tucked in location near Wesleyan, but I like this spot a lot! The owner/senior manager was very friendly. The whole venue is well-lit, modern, and inviting. The draft list is not too long, but it has some local and import choices. The brewery itself doesn't have a kitchen, but the smoking grill truck offers some food. At first I was not thrilled by the limited food choices at the truck, but the staff there was very nice and the food turned out good! Especially the pulled pork wrap, highly recommend! To wrap cole slaw, jalapeño, BBQ pork in one thing tasted so good! Also their chips were great and made in the house. The outside sitting is lovely on a good day.

Eight beers on tap on opening day. Of the four beer flight we had, I liked 3 of them and ordered a full glass of the summer stout. This is a nice addition to the B-N brewery scene.

Odd vibes, weird setup, awkward bar, but GREAT BEERS. One of the best breweries in town and easily better than Destihl.

After some shenanigans all day, we needed a few beers before heading back home for the night. We dropped in right after open and there were already a few patrons inside. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and then took our beers outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather. We initially sat at one of the round tables but Emily wanted to break out my pub kit (its a little container I keep in my car full of card and dice games), so we hopped on over to a picnic table. We played some Uno while sipping beers and talking about nothing. I got a hazy IPA called Little Helper and Em got a blonde called Holla Atcha. We both sampled each other beers and while I liked hers, Em loved mine. So much so that for our second beer, she got the Little Helper. I decided to get the Cannonball Comin' since it was another hazy IPA. While it was really good, we both gave Little Helper the edge on being tastier and hitting that sweet spot on a gorgeous day. Before we left, we hit up the merch stand. They had plenty of shirts, hats, stickers, magnets and various other things. I wasn't feeling any of their shirts but did get a sticker and magnet. Emily got herself a sticker that was Grateful Dead-themed. As we were slowly wrapping up our visit, the place started picking up and getting busy. This location was a bit removed from everything. It reminded me a bit of Evergreen Farm Brewing in that it was quiet and sitting outside was very enjoyable. White Oak was a great stop and a great way to end a day in Bloomington. I'll definitely be back for some more beer and maybe a shirt (or more stickers and magnets). Stay frosty!

After getting back to our car finally in air conditioning, I looked for a place for lunch and picked Destihl in Champaign. VERY MEMORABLE MEAL. My husband and kids were very happy. Fastforward 8 years. My kids are teens and we go down to ISU for the state Special Olympics championship. My child who barely walked last time is now particpating in a sporting event and I need a place for lunch. I literally started looking on Yelp hoping to find something like that meal we had back in 2018. What do you know but Destihl is in Normal and we can go there. Went for lunch with a reservation on a Friday. They were very busy so I was happy I reserved. The service was awesome (Emil was our server). We ordered two apps (Snack plate / Pretzel) and all got lunches (Pickled Mac n Cheese, Fish tacos, Club). We didn't want to eat too much since we had a lot of walking in the sun coming for us. Everything was great. Here's the deal with Destihl and what I like about it: Lots of components to dishes and it works. Each component is well-thought out, very fresh and seasoned perfectly. I wanted to order everything on the menu. The first time wasn't a fluke (I was afraid it might be). I'm glad they are still creating great food and service. The restaurant is very roomy and comfortable. While we don't live close, we will make it back whenever we're around ISU.

Casper is a pretty small brewery way out by the regional airport, so it takes time to get to. For a small brewery it has quite a lot to choose from. There's no food menu but you can bring in some from outside. Actually the place is bigger than it looks to be honest. It has quite a lot of room inside for seating and is good for parties. This is attached to another building and there's a pretty long hall to get into the actual brewery, and there's a Mexican restaurant right next to this too. As for the beer, it was good. It's about $5 a pint. That's a pretty good price for a craft brewery like this. I had the Citrus Wheat, which is a wheat ale. We also tried a Schwarzbier. Good German style of beers. They have fuller and lighter. Has no food except potato chips. It's also next to the golf center so it's a good place to come for an event or some kind of gathering. They also sometimes have food trucks.
