Love this place and it's wide variety of TREK bikes. I got mine here in 17' and I'm still in love with it. Today, my bf got his own so he could start keeping up with me. They have endless options of bike accessories, helmets, shoes, clips, anything bike related; they have it. They also have a full service bike shop for tune ups etc. yesterday we realized they now have a bar and offer local brews! When I originally went to the shop a year ago I probably would've given 5 stars. The staff was knowledgeable and helped me find exactly what i was looking for. I place an order for a bike and put a down payment. That was 12 months ago. I've called every month and I get the same answer "soon". I was given a 4 month ETA (during COVID so that made sense) but we're now a whole year out and I'm not hopeful. I basically threw my money in the trash with the down payment because by the time my bike comes in (if it ever does) it's going to be another warm season gone and I'll probably be moving out of Rockford anyway. Don't waste your time or money going here unless you're not planning on using the bike you just payed for for several years. read more

I can't believe this place has bad reviews! We came in to look for a bigger bike for our son. It's a great shop with friendly employees and a decent selection of bikes and bike accessories. Outside they have a small selection of used Trekk kids bike. We picked up a great used Trekk bike for $50! I also bought a big comfort seat for my bike (totally needed as I hated the seat on my new bike). The seat is awesome and my son loves his new "big boy" bike. We have had the bike for almost a year and absolutely no problems. Works as good as the day we bought it! We will certainly come back when we need a bigger bike, which I am sure will be sooner than later. read more

I got a little in over my head doing some upgrades to my bike by myself, and Skip and the crew there were really helpful in showing me the right tools I would need and how to use them so I could stay on track. I brought my bike here in the hopes of getting it fixed. My neighbor had bought it here and when he moved to Arizona he gave it to me. The second I walked through the door I felt like I didn't belong. The individual who greeted me immediately asked why I was bringing my bike in without an appointment. I didn't know since their website says they service bikes. After the initial tension I was met with an ungodly amount of pressure to not have my bike fixed and look into purchasing a new one. When I said I wasn't interested in purchasing a new bike as mine was quite nice and just needed a tune-up. I was given a quote for over $1200, when asked why it was so high, I was again told I should probably just start looking at getting a new bike. Needless to say I took it to another local shop and paid $250 to fix only what was needed and it's like brand new. I had heard from other Trek owners that this place looks down on people who appear to not have money and I undoubtedly agree now. Treat people how you want to be treated and not like you want them to empty their pockets. I'll never recommend or go to this place again. read more

This place has a large selection of Trek bikes. It's located in loves park about ten minutes from highway I-90. The lady when I shopped there was helpful but she definitely pushed the expensive bikes first. Ended up making a very large purchase. We asked if there was any discount they could provide and the guy working seemed extremely annoyed that we asked and that he had to walk out to the floor from behind the counter to show us the product. I'm not sure if he was just being rude or had a bad day. None of the less they have good bikes, I'll update next year. Lastly, we were not thanked for shopping there or supporting their business. The store was not very busy and this should be a priority for any small business. Another customer came into the store with a bike and the same guy who was acted annoyed offered this biker a drink because he looked thirsty. They didn't offer us anything ! read more

I went into this "bike shop" to buy a replacement spoke. This "bike shop" did not have the size spoke I needed, so I decided to buy the incorrect one anyway to see if I could get it to work. As I go to pay, they say there is a five dollar minimum if using a card. I didn't have any cash on me so the savvy business men at Rockford "Bicycle" Company let me walk right out of the door empty handed (no spoke). Dude, you guys just permanently lost a customer over a dollar spoke, nice one. read more

I loved this place. I test rode every bike I researched (I was in between the Trek 7.2x , Giant and Electra Cruiser, got the Trek). I went to every store in Rockford, and I felt like they had the best deal in the area. Lifetime Tuneups...yep, I was sold. It was nice they had a month reminder after I bought the bike and gave it a quick adjustment. I have had negative experiences with bike shops while living in Madison, where the staff talked down to me. You won't get that here, people were very approachable, and helpful! I really recommend them. I do recommend studying and research what type of bike you want, what type of specs, so it's easier to pick what you want to test ride. read more

We bought 2 new bikes from this store in an effort to buy "local". What a mistake. We brought one of these bikes for service (stripped nut on seat post) and another for new tires and a tune up. The service guys messed up the kickstand on the one that needed tires by allowing it to rub while the bike was ridden. We pointed this out to them and they did not care and were rude about it. They also said the stripped nut on the seat post on the other bike was my fault since I put too much torque on it ( I was using a torque wrench and was not even close to over tightening it). PROS: none CONS: overpriced products, crappy service, crappy employee attitudes & located in Rockford SUGGESTION: avoid the place and drive into the Chicago suburbs or Madison for your bicycling needs read more

07-20-2017 Being from Michigan I tend to shop where I know; however, I'm in Rockford on assignment until January and needed a bike. Went to Trek's website to find a location near me. I went into RBC and met Aaron - he was very friendly, knowledgeable and at no time did I feel pressured. I was tossing around the idea of another X-Caliber 9 or the Farley 5 (fat bike)... I know the X-Caliber, but a fat bike was new to me; however, I did my due diligence and read about and watched videos on the Farley 5. I ended up with the Farley 5 and I've ridden it about six-times. It's flat out awesome and I'm stopped a lot with; "Hey, what is that?" Or "That is a massive bike..." With the bike I also bought a hitch rack, which didn't seem to work very well and without hesitation; Aaron agreed to exchange and ordered a replacement rack. So, yes; five-stars for customer service, five-stars for over all knowledge and five-stars for making my bicycle buying experience one I will tell others about. read more

The associate seemed unmotivated to help me: kept looking at the clock, did not make any technical recommendations and said in so many words 'guess you're outta luck.' Stopped in for some air but the outside hose was not working so I stepped inside. All of the guys working greeted me and Matt took care of the air situation for me. He also helped me get my seat adjusted to the right height and helped rearrange a few things on the bike to make it better to ride. Matt was a great help and all the other guys were friendly too. I have done business with these guys a couple times, though I think the prices could be a little more competitive, I enjoy spending a little more to support local jobs. It makes it all the easier to support local jobs when I know there are guys in the shop willing to work on my early 80's Schwinn (some would consider a piece of junk, but I love it) just to help me out. read more

I'm not sure what the negative reviews are for, but I'm new to the area after living in California for the last 6 years. Cycling was a big part of my daily life while there and have seen my share of bad cycling shops. I've always likes Trek so naturally Rockford Bicycle Co. was the place to go. Everyone was super helpful. Skip, the owner showed me all the bikes and narrowed down the best mountain bike for me. The service was awesome and I recommend them to anyone looking for a new bike and especially a Trek. If you're looking to save money on a quality bike, I hear there is a sale on Huffy at Dicks or you can try Craigslist. Their service and care for detail is worth every penny. I've had a positive interaction with this company. I am a novice rider and went in to buy my first bicycle. Fortunately, my husband rides and knew what to look for in a beginners bike. We had pleasant service from Aaron, who did not have any poor attitude despite my lack of knowledge. We picked out the bike I wanted, plus a helmet to get started, and didn't have any complaints through the process. He helped with all the questions I had and knew exactly how to get me sized for everything. I didn't interact with the other staff members much, but Aaron was awesome. I'm writing this because I read a couple of reviews that I don't believe fairly depict the overall experience of buying from Rockford Bike Co. I bought my first bike since college from them about 8 years ago, after going on a ride with my wife, who was on her Trek Hybrid. Mine was a top of the line Schwinn (for it's time...) that was well over 20 years old by then and largely unused as well. I hopped on my wife's bike out of curiosity one day and within about 10 feet turned to her and said "we're stopping at the bike shop on the way home..." I bought mine after a little research and still couldn't be happier. A year or so later, we bought another Trek, this time a mountain bike, for my wife. Another couple of years later, we bought one for my son and just last year our oldest daughter bought her own from them. While they're in the business to make money, we've never felt bad about any dealings, or that anyone has tried to oversell us something we don't really need. They have always treated us well and the product is fairly priced. I have noticed a wide range of treatment depending on the clerk available at the time, but overall we've had good experiences. Just ask for Skip if you have any concerns and he'll take excellent care of you. Be a smart shopper! read more

Great local bike shop! Always well stocked and well staffed. The owner Skip, along with Alex and Pat are very personable and knowledgeable. I'm an avid road cyclist that shopped off and on for a over year before deciding on a Trek Madone from Rockford Bicycle Co. I'm completely satisfied with the bike and service. I'm very particular about who works on my bikes, and I have complete confidence in there service department. They also offer lifetime tune-ups on all bike purchases, which is a huge value if you plan on keeping the bike for more than a couple years. It's tempting to shop other stores out of town, but the savings you'd see on a closeout at another shop are quickly wiped out when you consider the travel expense, and the annual maintenance cost you'd otherwise have to pay. You also have to consider the convenience of a local shop that can handle most repairs same day. It keeps my bike on the road and me in shape. It's hard to put a price on that. Buy your next bike from here, you won't regret it. read more

Went here on a recommendation from friends at work. Matt helped me the first day I went in. He was very knowledgeable and not a pushy salesman at all. He wanted me to get the right bike for me. Showed me a few options and didn't even show me the more expensive of the models first. Unfortunately, I have to agree with other reviewers who had less than an ideal experience at this shop. I am a long time rider and racer, both mountain and road, and often work on my bikes myself, but have stopped in here twice for service when I was short on time. On both occasions the people I talked to were patronizing and outright wrong about what the situation was with my bike. I had to educate the guy the last time about why a 9-speed conversion would work on my bike. Very frustrating, felt like I was dealing with 6-year-olds who missed their afternoon nap.
