Excellent customer service has won me over! I recently purchased a used Olympus OM-4 35mm camera from KEH, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the camera was when I received it. Unfortunately, the camera had a mechanical issue and had to be returned. I spoke to Brent, who was very apologetic and sent me a FedEx return label for the camera (at his cost). I explained to Brent that I was on deadline for a shoot a few weeks away, and that I needed to have another working OM body for my shoot (my OM bodies are getting worn out). Anyway, he assured me that he would put a rush repair on my camera and have it back to me in time. Later in the week, I got a call from Brent that the repair guys were having trouble with the circuit board on my OM-4, but that I would be sure to get a working camera by my deadline. Yesterday, I got an email that an OM4-TI had been shipped to me via 2-day FedEx, to arrive in plenty of time for my gig. The OM4-TI is a NICER model (and more expensive) than the model that I had purchased, by at about $100. Brent was so committed to my deadline and my satisfaction that he sent me a better camera than I paid for. Nothing goes right 100% of the time in business. Screw-ups are bound to happen every once and a while. It is how a business responds to those errors and how they correct them that shows the true character of a business. Brent has won my loyalty with his service. At no point was I seriously worried about missing my deadline. His communication was excellent, and the outcome for me was fantastic. I will definitely be coming back to purchase some Zuiko lenses, as their selection is excellent, and I now know that I will at the very least get what I paid for, if not MORE. read more

I live close so I carried a Pentax ME Super w/ 50mm f1.2 lens, Mamiya 80mm f2.8 TLR Lens and a Mamiya 180 F4.5 Lens to the Smyrna, GA location for a quote. The online quote was attractive, roughly $500 total for the above. All of the equipment I rated EX as there were no scratches, dings or wear evident on any of it with the exception of a scratch on the back of the Mamiya 80mm metal, not lens. I got a call the next day to call back and connected with a lady who said she had a check for $93. No details. When I questioned her on which pieces they didn't want, she said that $93 was for ALL of it. She said that there were no details on any of it other than the Pentax lens was BGN and the 80mm Mamiya needed repair. Maybe the 80mm did need something but the Pentax body and lens were pristine as was the Mamiya 180mm. (Side note: the Pentax 50mm lens in Ex condition was listed as $273 on the web quote, the same lens in BGN condition is listed at $173!) Since I wasn't able to actually discuss the appraisal with the person who did it, I just took my equipment back. I give them a 2 because the process was easy enough but I don't know why the offer was so low offer and no details or rationalization was provided. read more

Absolutely the best place to buy used lenses and camera equipment. They have a huge stock, great prices, return policy and warrant. A golden standard for used photo equipment online. Sure, you can save some money on ebay, but it is less than you would think and you don't get return policy. So when it comes to things that are prone to quality control issues (Sigma and Pentax, I am looking at you) you are better off getting it on KEH. read more

I've been dealing with these people for maybe 20 years and I've seen them go down hill from a place that you just couldn't wait to call as soon as the money was available, to the 4th or 5th place you might visit after you couldn't find what you're looking for anywhere else. In the old days I would call up and the salesman would spend time with me while I picked out what I wanted. Because it was (and is) a mail order only place, he would often bring out several samples of an item and look at them for me. Then he'd pick whichever one he figured was in the best shape. I trusted them and I never got screwed. That was a great shopping arrangement. They also had a lot of as-is stuff for sale that I would buy for parts or repair. Half the fun was buying a fixer upper every time I bought a working item because I also had a side businedd doing repairs. But slowly everything changed. The people who were willing to support customers properly left or were fired, and later on, the as-is section vanished. I called up to buy a BGN 80 Planar C. when I asked the guy if he could bring a few out and pick the one with the best glass, he said they couldn't do that anymore! Of course I didn't buy it. Two other times my online orders got cancelled because some one sold the item after I placed the order, but before they got around to processing it. They call it an online ordering glitch. But the truth is they just don't get around to processing online orders until the end of the day and anyone can call in during that time and purchase anything you have already bought and paid for online and your order gets cancelled. That's a disgrace! Then to add a final insult, they got rid of their as-is section. When I asked them what had happened and when they might bring the as-is items back, they again provided a BS expalantion about how they were deciding how they could best serve their customers. A few months later I started the KEH as-is items selling again. On sleazebay! Heluva way to treat customers. It's a shame to say it but KEH is turning into the new Cambridge Camera! read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH KEH CAMERA. Grant and the other employees I interacted with were very patient and courteous, but did nothing to rectify the way that their business treated my equipment with disregard. Not only will they give you an insulting quote for your cameras, (obviously they aren't going to pay you retail prices, but I'm talking 1% of their retail price is what they will offer you), but when you go to pick up your equipment you may very well find that it has been thrown in various bins, unprotected (even though you dropped it off neatly organized, individually wrapped, and labeled), broken IN PIECES, and they might not even know where all of your stuff is! Yup, KEH Camera will try to rip you off and then lose your stuff, damage your stuff, and blatantly not give a damn about it. Do not trust this company with your camera equipment. It's not worth it. Even if you really do need that $5 for your $500 camera. I left their store more broke than I entered it, because they have literally cost me time and money. UPDATE::: There are parts and cameras missing. I am looking into taking legal action against them. My equipment should have been returned to me in the exact same condition they received it in... no two ways about it. read more

I just want to give a shout out to the repair department at KEH. I had a Canon 5D that I sent to them about a month ago for replacement of my shutter. I had a bazillion clicks on her, so I was only trying to keep her going as a full frame gift for some young kid that I want to introduce to photojournalism down the road. They were unable to replace the shutter because there was another issue, and I will have to retire the old camera for good (sigh), but I am very happy with the experience with KEH during the process. They were very professional and stayed in communication with me throughout the entire process. They tried to find a new charge unit for it, but couldn't find one that worked. Sad day for a favorite old camera, but I did find a great service source for the future. They even sell used gear at pretty good prices. read more

Did not expect a great deal but I was offered $200 for lens with perfect glass that I bought from them 2 years ago at $800. for some reason reaching by email can get a response but when you call in it really takes a lot of luck to get someone. i tried selling a lens and it takes over 2 weeks to process. if you're looking to deal and can wait it out then go for it, but be aware the price you assume will never be that price they will give you. they are very thorough in inspections. read more

I had a friend sell some lenses to KEH when they traveled to the area. He felt that he received a fair price. When I looked for a used camera, I looked to them and purchased a camera rated "excellent plus." I opened the box and as I unwrapped the camera, while the exterior was in great condition, there was a post-it note that stated, "Power on/off erratic." I was sorely disappointed. I emailed them and they responded the next morning; apologizing for sending a camera out without noting it in the description and then offering to pay for return shipping and full refund. I purchased a camera elsewhere, but will consider them in the future for their responsiveness to this issue. I believe this highlights the problem with buying used camera gear is one has to go solely on a number rating system rather than a description. read more

Reading reviews, my expectations dealing with KEH were very low and they didn't disappoint. Sent in Nikon camera with 5 lens. Based upon initial online quote the value was $164. Their "techs" evaluated and came back to me with a $29 buy out based upon everything was just "bargain quality". Also I was told the rewind mechanism was not working and so there was a deduction for cost to repair. Was given a $100 ball park figure. Went back on line and valued all the equipment using KEH "bargain" figures. Came to $108. Told them to send everything back to me....which they did at their expense. Upon receiving the camera body, I checked the rewind and it was working "perfectly". Sent a video and copy of the instruction manual back to KEH to see if they would reconsider purchase. They decided to pass. Note: the camera is a Nikkormatt, 1967 in good condition. Somewhat rare as Nikon only made 15000 - mine was #7700. Obviously "techs" did not know how to operate this camera. It was purchased before their parents were even born!! They "forgot" to push the little release button on the bottom of the case!! Bottom line: was offered 27% of their "bargain" value. 18% of what the initial quote was. They paid for shipping costs both ways so no money out of my pocket....just time. They did do turnaround as promised. If you have items you want to get rid of I would recommend you use KEH. However set your sites and expectations VERY LOW and if you don't like the deal you only waste your time. read more

​ I am not one to write reviews... and what I mean is this is the first one I've ever done. But after the excruciating level of service I received when I purchased a camera body in December I couldn't help but share my experience. For starters, when purchasing any equipment from this company please be advised that it is truly buyer beware. They have a handy grading system which I have been abruptly informed upon receiving a non functioning camera body, is only used to determine the physical appearance of the equipment. It does not have anything to do with the functionality of the equipment. It all started in december 2016 when I purchased a Bronica SQ-Ai tht ws rated 97%... I immediately reached out to KEH regarding this body not functioning properly, we had agreed to have it checked out here in Canada and that I would be reimbursed for the diagnostic fee (which I still have not been refunded for). Once it was determined that the entire electronic assembly had to be replaced I was instructed to send the camera back to KEH for them to determine what they would do with it. At that point I was advised it would be 5-7 business days before the repair department had an idea of what they would do with the body. At that point I inquired about a lower quality body they had and asked that they put it on hold for me so that if they decided that the body was irreparable that I would be able to exchange it for that one. After several weeks of waiting I was starting to get very curious about the game plan for this body. The gentleman I was dealing with on the phone didn't seem to concerned about getting back to me in a timely fashion (usually taking numerous days to return my phone call, or until I would attempt again) He never had any answers for me and kept telling me that the department that he worked in was in an entirely different building and separate from the repair department and the two of them do not communicate effectively... which struck me as odd, since I would have expected the person dealing with the customer to be able to provide updates. After multiple attempts of getting ahold of my representative (who it turns out is a manager there) I was finally told that they still had no idea what was going on with this camera. I decided since it had been nearly two months since I originally purchased the camera that I go ahead with the exchange and just go on with life. At that point he informed me that they had sold the other body as they could no longer hold it for me... I was having a hard time understanding how if they had hit a point where they couldn't hold it any longer why I had not been contacted and given an opportunity to make a decision. He was not able to provide any reason, and actually conceded that he should have afforded his displaced customer that service. Also, agreeing that he on numerous occasions had dropped the ball and should have been much more forthcoming with information. I was kept in the dark the entire two months the body was back at KEH, literally up until the last minute when my representative said "oh I just heard back from the repair department & your camera body has been repaired and will be shipped out today. Up until that moment I was being told one thing one minute and another the next. I received the camera back in march, just over 3 months after my original purchase. About 4 days after receiving the body back I contacted the same representative to inquire about what work had been done on it, as the body was still showing some signs of not working correctly, to this date I have not had a response. I decided to just leave it alone as the camera works well enough for what I need. Since then I have purchased a second body as a backup (certainly not from KEH) just incase things go haywire with this one. My advice: Be very careful about what you purchase from them, and expect that you may have to fork out extra cash if your 97% item doesn't work when you get it. read more

Think twice about buying from KEH. Warranty offered is very limited, in my case two weeks after getting the KEH lens my camera locked up. Sony warranty service requested me to send both camera (which was under factory warranty) and KEH lens to evaluate problem. Certainly makes sense to send both to determine problem. Turns out the KEH lens caused the problem, but since another camera shop had looked at the KEH lens my warranty with KEH was void!!! KEH lens was rated excellent plus and was about $80 under retail. Should have purchased new and had a real warranty. read more

Lens is in ok condition but the lens cap came broken and wont stay on. Feeling like the spring in it is just old and worn out.

I ordered a $930 Zeiss lens for my Sony kit. I was notified that it was shipped but never received a tracking number. After a few days and no lens, I called them to see if they could give me the FedEx number. They initially told me "It'll be there by Saturday", yet I had to ask twice to get the physical number from FedEx. I entered the tracking number on FedEx's site and it turns out the package needed a signature and they attempted to deliver it twice. It was on its final attempt and was indeed scheduled to be delivered Saturday, but I was not going to be home. I decided to reroute the package to a FedEx location, but the shipper decided that I shouldn't be able to do that. I had to call again, speak to their FedEx coordinator, who then rerouted the package for me. I pick up the package - included was no box and a Voigtlander rear lens cap. Coincidentally they had a Zeiss cap on their site for $8.00. I called to request they ship that to me because I received the wrong cap, and was told by one service agent that, "It shipped with front and rear caps, and it did, but EX graded equipment doesn't guarantee that it would ship with OEM parts." Mind you, no reasonable person would assume that a $930 lens would ship with off brand caps, nor was this ever disclosed on their website. It's pretty low of a company to put up a fight over an $8.00 cap. I called another customer service agent who gave me a similar schpeal, and after citing the above, said that he wouldn't think it'd be a problem getting it to me. I would avoid and purchase on eBay, Adorama, or B&H before getting a lens here. read more

I was selling used equipment and received a quote for $370 for 6 items. I fully expected that offer to change once they received my equipment and checked the condition. I did not expect the final offer to be $67. Seems a little like bait and switch. But this was a one time transaction for me so I won't be working with them again anyway. Seller beware. read more

Stupid shipping policies and ZERO customer service. I purchased a lens from KEH. They told me it would be delivered by FedEx. What they DIDN'T tell me was that a signature would be required. Since I WORK ...I cannot wait at home for delivery between the hours of 9am and 5pm just to sign for a lens. Even worse NO ONE ELSE could sign for the shipment...only me. I spoke to FedEx about having it delivered to a local FedEx office but KEH "Locked" the shipment so it cannot be re-routed in any way. I understand that they want a signature. Why not let me sign for it at another secure FedEx location? When I tried to call customer service they put me on hold for 10 minutes before then transferring me to a voicemail box that they apparently do not check. I emailed them and they blamed EVERYTHING on FedEx which was an easy to verify lie. HORRIBLE SERVICE! I will NEVER, EVER, EVER buy from these people again. read more

After the 2nd order they were MIA when it came time to pay and then when we finally reached them they gave us pennies on the dollar for our cameras and we asked for a sort report and they said "We don't provide those" even though they had on the the previous orders. I am a professional photographer. So I wanted to share my experience with KEH. I have been a customer with this company since the mid 80's. As a budding photographer I poured over their ads in the photo magazines. I trusted their rating system for used equipment and made several purchases. I was rooting for them to make the transition to the digital era. Which they did. So I was genuinely happy for them. When it came time to do a repair on my Canon 70-200 2.8 I remembered seeing that they did repairs. So I filled out the form that approved a standard repair of 320.00. Quite a bit but ok if that what it costs. I mailed the lens to them and they were to receive it on Monday Oct 2nd. I called to see that they had but couldn't get through on the phone line, the automated message said that an email would draw a quicker response. So I emailed. It was 24 hours before I received an email back stating that they did receive the lens. Too long in my opinion. It's $1000+ piece of equipment. On Oct 6th they send me a new quote of $443.00, above and beyond what the standard price on the website for repairing that lens. They said that it would be 2-3 weeks to repair. I emailed back with an hour on Oct 6th and said that if you could get it done in a week I would approve the repair. Again a delay in the response they did not respond to this email until the 10th of October saying that they could not turn the lens around in this time frame. Ok fine I asked them to send it back. It took them until Oct 12 to get around to mailing it back to me. Estimated return is Oct 19th. So my problem is not with the price or turn around time its with the response time and lack of communication. I felt like I was treated like a number. Nobody wants that. I used to use them exclusively for purchasing used equipment, and was almost always more than satisfied with the purchase. In fact, most of the bargain grade items were much better than anticipated. Unfortunately, things have changed for the worse. Although they claim the items are thoroughly inspected, more often then not, they arrive defective. The last purchase I made was a manual focus lens that had a stuck aperture. All in all, I've had to return many items, that should never have been shipped because of obvious defects. Yes, they have a liberal return policy, but I don't have the time to write up an RMA request, repackage the item, and schedule a FedEx pickup. Recently, I have received lenses graded as excellent, that I would have classified as bargain or ugly! Also, I've bought several used digital cameras (bargain grade), that have very high shutter counts. One was 333K! Several others have been close to the end of their life expectancy. Their prices have escalated as well, and are no longer competitive. They only way I would consider purchasing from them again is: 1. Show pictures of the actual item you are purchasing. 2. Describe defects, shutter count, etc. for the actual item you are purchasing. 3. Allow more options for shipping. For a period of time, my packages from them were being stolen at the Austin FedEx ground facility. I now only purchase from vendors who use UPS or USPS. read more

When I mailed it to them, they revised their quote to $200 (rudely). They claimed everything was broken / in disrepair, to top it off (my gear is immaculate!). I ordered a canon lens for my granddaughter for a combined birthday and graduation present. I was nervous - I know nothing about cameras. But I found one rated "Excellent" on KEH and it was a good price so I crossed my fingers and ordered it, telling her to check it out the minute it got there so if it was anything less than excellent, we could get it on its way back. She called me and said that it's beautiful - no scratches, no haze, everything worked perfectly - manual focus and automatic. She's the photographer and she is thrilled with this lens. I was looking for a discontinued camera lens that I couldn't find anywhere else. Although I had never ordered from them before, I read some positive Yelp reviews. KED had the lens, so I took a chance even though it seemed a little risky with a $750 order (a good price for this lens). The lens was rated EXC+. I received the lens in a reasonable amount of time with ground shipping, and it was practically new, very good condition. Very happy with my purchase. Their email updates with the purchase invoice and shipping information were timely and accurate. Docked one star because I have limited experience with them, but I was definitely pleased with this purchase and based on this experience, I would order from them again. read more

I bought some used gear from KEH back in the Canon FD film days and was always happy with the results. After years away from "real" photography, I'm now buying DSLR gear. As an old manual focus guy, the intricacy and relative fragility of this new equipment makes me shy away from the auction and classified ad markets. I just bought a new EF zoom in LN- condition and can report that it is indeed in perfect condition. As for service, KEH rescued me from a mistake I made in my order; I called on a Saturday morning to inquire about changing the order and they graciously did so before it shipped, no problems, no fuss. The lens was well packed and arrived on time. My only suggestion is that KEH provide tracking in their shipping confirmation emails or via the website. I had no idea what carrier they were using, or exactly what day to be on hand to receive the package. I did call them again to find out, and they did tell me, but it would save everyone time if it were automated. Anyway, I was pleased with KEH years ago and still am today. For those who complain about KEH's pricing, you do understand that they are a real company with a real physical staff and warehouse, that they have expenses to pay, a payroll, and they handle and grade the items, offer a warranty, and offer you a return privilege--on used gear? As another reviewer stated, they assume the risk. You pay for that, of course, because businesses don't stay in business long if they give away their services. You can go to an auction and get a lower price, but you may get burned. That's the tradeoff. And don't think that the auction market hasn't impacted KEH. They used to have such a vast inventory, but a lot of that gear goes to you-know-where now. I think it's a testament to their quality of service that they've held on. read more

I've emailed and called KEH directly to ask some questions regarding some lenses I was considering to purchase from them. Once last year in 2016 I called about one lens and again a couple weeks ago I sent an email about another lens. I did not a response to either query. I purchased my lenses elsewhere both times. I was TRYING to send some business to KEH and they did not respond, if they don't care to respond, how will they assist you if you have a problem with a purchase with them. Buying good used glass is a challenge at times. read more

Their stated response time after receiving camera parts is 7 business days, it was 23 business days and I had to call them several times. I never received a final quote from them. Got a verbal on the phone, asked for it in writing and never got. They said my Nikon F3 needed cleaning and paid me $12 for it. Not sure if I got ripped off but it sure feels like it.
