I spent $300 and didn't really buy anything Some SD cards, a camera bag and a camera wrist strap. The guy that helped me was knowledge and patient. He took time to explain brand and selections. I would have liked some different color options but most of their bags were black, blue and olive. I had a fairly large painting I needed a good photo of for making prints and such, but the painting was really shiny (without any varnish). So after about 250 attempts on my own in different lightings and angles trying to get a shine free image with no luck, I called around to photography places to see who might be able to get a shine free photo of it. None of the studios I contacted did that sort of thing, but one recommended I contact PPR. I called first to see if PPR could take a shine free photo and they were really friendly and helpful on the phone, said they could, and answered all my questions. I didn't need an appointment, so I took my painting over there. It was a small unassuming shop from the outside that was really busy, but I took it as a good sign. Everyone I talked to was friendly and when they found out what I needed they called the person who specializes in this exact thing to the front. He took the time to find out what I was looking for in the photos of my painting, and was very knowledgeable. It turns out he's a well known artist himself, so he knew exactly what I was looking for and what he was doing. I really felt in good hands. About a week later I came back to pick up the painting and to choose which photo(s) of it I liked best. I was impressed that he'd taken multiple shots of the painting so I could choose the exact one I felt was closest to my painting. He even took time to give me helpful advice for possibly starting my own freelance art business. After choosing which photo I liked (all of them--I couldn't decide), he sent me the digital files and they were exactly what I needed. Both visits everyone behind the counter was very nice, and it seemed everyone I talked to was highly accomplished in various arts. I appreciated so much being able to talk to someone as knowledgeable and gifted with the camera as the person who helped take my painting's photo. PPR has a talented group of people there. I never rented camera gear. I usually have all the gear I need. But a client needed a specific backdrop. So I had to find one quick. Luckily, I found Professional Photo Resources (PPR for short). They are a small rental place located in Westside. Even though their building looks small, they have a ton of stuff. You can rent camera and lenses, lighting gear, grip gear and more. In my case, they had a ton of muslin backgrounds that I could choose from. I was surprised at their selection. If you are a new renter, you have to fill out their application and get a credit check. Like I mentioned before, they have a ton of gear you can rent. Their prices seem competitive from the other places I've looked at. If you want to buy something, they sell things too. If you need to buy anything, you can get new or used gear. Besides your photographic equipment, you can also hire assistants or digital techs through them. On their website, they even have listings for caterers, makeup artists, art directors, and more. They also do prints through pprpix. If you need a gigantic print, they can provide them for you. You can even get a print big as 30"x120". The people who work here are very friendly and helpful. They seem patient and willing to help. If you need any photography gear, I recommend Professional Photo Resources. They seem like a one stop shop for anything photo related. read more

This is my first AND last time buying anything from PROFESSIONAL PHOTO RESOURCES! I'm mostly an event end wedding photographer but my 19 yr old cousin begged me to take studio portraits for her birthday. She told me if I bought the backdrop paper, she'll get the rest of the props. Okay cool! Tomorrow is the shoot and would you know it, she changes her mind (teenagers ) and I specifically waited until the last minute to get the paper because I had a feeling she'd change her mind. Anyway, I called PPR to try to get a refund on the 9ft seamless paper that costed me $63 and even though I have never opened or used it, in fact I have been riding around with it in my car for ONLY 1 day; the young lady in the phone politely told me there are no refunds or exchanges. I personally feel that policy is unnecessary and ridiculous if a person haven't used the product. My advice to anyone looking to do business with this company is DON'T DO IT! The ONLY thing brick and mortar stores are good for is going in, checking out the equipment that you need, price comparing and then purchasing from Amazon.com, the company that's ending all companies. At least with Amazon (1) You'll get a better price (2) Fast shipping with Prime or additional costs (3) They understand and value customer service. Returns are easy just drop it off to the nearest Amazon customer service center. This is what I get for trying to support a local business. Lesson learned. In second thought, I'll be back to check out other equipment THEN I will purchase it from Amazon. That we will help me make good decisions in the future when I comes to my photography equipment and supplies. Over priced. I expect to pay extra in a photography store. If they had charged me $20 or $30 more than this item was online I would have been completely okay with that but to be charged $60 more than it's listed for on b&h and ADorama? No. Especially on an item under $200 so they charged me 47% extra. They have just permanently lost a customer. Beware, only use if it's an absolute emergency. Since I rarely have emergencies but often buy gear this was a very poor business decision and speaks to why many stores aren't making it. It's a shame since I believe in supporting local stores and was pleased that Atlanta still had one but ripping people off isn't good business. read more

I tried to rent from them, and as other reviewers stated, there is a serious application for rentals. It's 2019, I don't need to provide professional references for renting gear, period. It's antiquated and unnecessary to wait to have my application approved. I couldn't find any list of available equipment online, and my reply email sent by them did not even confirm the product I requested. I'm not providing enough personal information to steal my identity to inquire about a rental. Instead, I purchased the item same day from amazon, it was easier and I could verify my item was in stock. For mere pre-rental applications, these guys require that you provide them with all of the information necessary to have your identity stolen (and then some). There is no guarantee that they will treat this information safely, or that they will even know how to treat it safely (in fact, the recommendation that you e-mail it to them suggests otherwise). There is also no guarantee that they exercise measures to hire only trustworthy employees. I've rented photo gear a number of times (in NYC!), and they were always satisfied with putting a hold on my credit card for the deposit amount. I've never had to go through this kind of process. They may be lovely people, and it may be a rewarding experience to rent from them. However, i wouldn't know, because i cannot, in good conscience, even complete the application. UPDATE 2012.02:: I just completed a NYC firearms application, for which they require an advance background investigation, and they asked for _far less_ information than PPR. There is simply no excuse for this. Anyone who rents from these guys is living dangerously. read more

My experience with PPR is limited only to finding always the kind of film I need, which is usually fresh Fuji Neopan (B&W) Kodak Portra for my color work or large format film...usually they are well stocked, and are nice and friendly. Some of my fellow grad students have rented equipment from them, and rave about price, quality and professional service. So, you could say this is a good place for students on tight budgets, and "oh-my-God-school-stuff-is-all-checked-out!" Their paper stock isn't as good as it is in other places. I would recommend this place more for film and, definitely, to find and rent that medium camera you need for that absurd assignment you were given at school or to fullfil your desire to try one of those sexy Hasselblads or Mamiyas... Update: I just rented a medium format camera (Fuji 645) from them. The service was OUTSTANDING! They take the time to explain you in detail how the equipment works, and make sure you leave knowing al that you have to know about the camera. They are polite, nice and super patient! Great people! I wish I could give PPR more than five stars! I brought my daughter in to get information on lens rental and they spent about an hour with us letting her try various lenses on her camera and explaining everything in detail, including tips on how to create profs for her clients. They were all so kind and took her through everything that put her at ease before a couple of big shoots she had scheduled. I went back to get her photos printed and, again, was given great service. They spent time explaining the paper options and helped me order the right product for both her fine art and portrait work. We were blown away by the quality when we picked up her enlargements. I can't say enough about the service at PPR. They truly care about their customers and have created a lifetime one in my daughter and myself! read more

I love PPR. Belying the name, PPR is perfect for the amateur hobbyist who wants to use a nice piece of glass every once in a while. There are a few lenses that I just LOVE the bokeh on, but being a pure amateur there's no way I can afford them. PPR lets me rent them for $30-50 and I can produce creamy bokeh all day long. Quick note on that price -- that's for the really high end lenses, the ones that msrp higher than $2k. They've got a number of lenses for much cheaper than that. To Ari E.'s point, yes, the application is comprehensive. If I were running a rental place where I let people walk out the door with thousands of dollars worth of equipment for just tens of their dollars, yah, I'd have an application this comprehensive as well. A credit card temp hold doesn't guarantee anything (even in NYC!). PPR has reasonable weekend rates (pickup the lens in the afternoon on Friday, return Monday morning for a one day rate) and weekly rates that are only 3 times the daily...perfect for the vacation crowd too. read more

If you are a professional or serious amateur photographer, you must check out this store. Its not very large, but they pack in a lot of quality gear and supplies. The first thing I noticed is that they had a large assortment of tripods on site, as well as lighting gear, printing supplies, and even a selection of medium and large format cameras and their asssorted accessories. Unlike most employees at your neighborhood Wolf camera, all the employees at PPR are professionals who know what they are talking about, so if there's something you are interested in you can ask about it and get an informed answer. I suspect PPR is most well known in the area because you can rent gear from them at very reasonable prices. I rented a couple lenses (retail $4000) for a total of $50 for the weekend. They rent pretty much every lens available for Canon or Nikon SLR cameras, along with flash heads and camera bodies, and have multiple of each item in stock, so odds are you can find what you need. They also rent out studio space. read more

I have rented here sooo many times. I usually rent Nikon Lenses and Flashes. The rental application process was really simple all you need is a checking account and a check book. I always rent my equipment several days in advance and leave a check for collateral that is returned to me when I return my equipment. If you rent on a Friday after 2 then you don't have to return until Monday by 10 am. They have been very patient and flexible with me even when I'm running late and not able to make it right at 10 am on Mondays. They remember me and always wish me luck on my shoots. The staff is very knowledgeable about photography and I always appreciate there advice. Awesome place I wouldn't be in business without them. read more

Pretty creepy place. I've been in gun stores that have a more inviting showroom. The outside of the place looks sketchy, terrible parking lot (watch your wheels), barred up front door and windows. The inside doesn't get much rosier, shabby and old. The display cases are more scratches than glass, I don't think they have updated them since the 1970's. Staff was energetic and inexperienced, good and bad. Ladies stay clear, online rentals are a better option. read more

I used PPR 3+ years ago 2009-2010 and loved coming to the place. Used it for my shoots and they had great knowledge on all there equipment. Coming back PPR 3 years later I experienced a much different experience. I needed to shoot in Studio 1 and had very limited time. I gave them a call and they said it was avaible and to bring in a credit card for a deposit and They could lock me down for the allowed time. I came in at 3:30 to do this before they closed at 5:30. After openly giving them all my information (enough to steal my identity) I waited for an hour. As I waited the staff doodle around and was return by an Elder women who asked if I knew my tax ID number. At the time I didn't have it on hand and she couldn't believe that I didn't know mine. She began insulting me about it. She talked down to me as if i were a child. I asked if was needed to complete and she respond with no you gave your SS#. I was shocked. She asked if I could have the company owner come in as I wasn't the owner of the business. I then began to make arrangements to make this happen. As I was on the phone I was approached by another person of staff. Before I could even hang up the phone I was being asked 21 questions as if he was a sheriff investigating me. I again gave him all the information along with the owners, but Even though I was provided valid information he continued to hassle me as if it was a joke. Why would I go in there and give you all my information if I was hiding something? Before I knew it, it was 5:20 and the owner was pulling in to resolve anything they needed. But I couldn't get around the treatment I was giving and so i just couldnt give them my business. Instead of telling me solutions to the problem or how to make this agreement happen, I felt as if I just left the police station for being the suspect in some horrific charge. No help or customer service here. I've been using PPR for a couple months now for all my rental needs. I also purchased a Nikon D610 from them as well. Their customer service is the best I've ever encountered at a camera shop in Atlanta. They are very responsive to questions and have great advice for anything and everything photography. The people who work here are very professional, helpful and patient. We were in the store yesterday sorting through over thousands of pictures and no one had a problem with it. Johnnie was very helpful and even stayed after closing until we got what we paid for. The pictures came out beautiful and the paper quality was excellent. Trevor did an amazing job on the autocorrect for dark pictures outside. I have no complaints whatsoever about this place. Parking is better parallel to the business. The area might be shady and the building on the outside might look run down but the service you receive inside makes that not even matter. Love this place! read more

They don't care about customer service I bought a tripod (very expensive c/w on line products) I asked if I could return it (prior to purchasing) They said no problem as long as in the same condition. I never used it and brought it back. They ultimately took the return but only after making sure it was in the "Time Frame" something they never mentioned. More importantly, the day before I was trying to get there to return it and called about 5 min before they closed to let them know I was a few min away and to ask them to be ready. They said they had closed their computers and not to come When I mentioned this to the manager when I came in the next day, he could not have cared less. "if you are not here by 5:30, we are closed" I mentioned that maybe in the world of on line retail that maybe he should think about customer service, he cared more about getting home. I was recently going out of town on an assignment and really needed to have the sensor cleaned on my Nikon D800 before I left. PPR is fantastic about rentals, printmaking, and general help for pro's and amateurs. I called Johhny Spring the Manager, and he said he to bring it in, he'd clean the sensor while I waited. Of course I can't guarantee he'd do this for everyone, but he did it for me and the sensor is spotless! PPR has been my "go-to" camera source for years, with the excellent service and equipment rentals, and now beautiful prints, are why I'm a huge fan! read more
