But, she also said that because of the ERM I was not a candidate for lasik surgery to correct my vision (I had previously had cataract surgery, which gave me much better, tho not perfect, vision.) So, I thought I would get my ERM situation looked at again, and also get a 2nd opinion re: lasik. Dr. Harrell at the Hastings location was a great choice. I had never been to Advanced Eyecare Professionals before, but the online reviews were good. The patient intake was right on time -- no waiting. The assistant was friendly and did preliminary questions and testing. The doctor arrived immediately afterward. And, the exam was thorough. Could not ask for any better care as a patient/customer. Turns out that he said lasik would be perfectly OK, medically. But, the adjustment needed might be too small to warrant the expense and the risk involved in surgery. He proposed another option (which I did not know existed for those who had had IOL replacement surgery): progressive lenses that would allow me to see both distance and reading. So, that is what I will try first. I do highly recommend this office for eyecare.

My regular ophthalmologist retired so my GP recommend this Marko doctor whose staff was not gentle & when I talked with him he disagreed & asked me to leave. After completing the paperwork I was walked back to start my appointment, almost immediately. This is always a great perk to not have to sit and wait for who knows how long due to someone being behind schedule. I really liked that the assistants get the process starting by asking some questions and doing a couple of the first tests. After I was done with that portion I was personally walked into the exam room and greeted by Dr. Goodfellow just a few moments after. Dr. Goodfellow did a great job at asking me questions, learning more about me and my issues. Through learning more about me, he was able to give some great advice with even better reasons to back up his professional advice. I left with a totally new prescription that fit my eyes WAY better than my previous. I especially like that he wasn't afraid to give me a weaker prescription than my current one - this to me feels like he isn't trying to make my eyes worse and keep me coming back for new prescriptions and really just trying to create the best solution for me on the spot. I don't have many choices when it comes to retina specialists in the area. Doctor Korot is very knowledgeable, but did not spend a lot of time with me. This was hard as a patient. I get other patients might have more urgent needs, but if I waited over two hours to see you because my retina is detaching, I'd appreciate better "bedside manner." Annual check ups matter too!!! If I could get a referral to a different doctor, I would change offices. Second reason I do not recommend this office: my appointments have been canceled last minute, and rescheduling is damn near impossible. I can never get anyone on the phone! The folks who do take calls don't work in the office and have to leave a note with the office. It took over five times for me to call and leave a message to get a returned call! Again very frustrating from the patient side. Finally, paying a bill is more difficult than it should be. You get the bill in the mail with a number to call. But guess what? The operators say the office is busy and they'll "call you back." I'm not sure what else can be done, aside from going into the office to pay my bill. I would argue that you have to go to the office to schedule and pay bills in person because the phone and email do not seem to work. Please do better, retina specialists of Michigan. You can hire more people to help with admin work, this might actually help patients.
