I'm a frequant customer and use to love the service. This most recent time I came in the woman working was rude from the start and I needed to get my clippers fixed for work. I left them there to be fixed then came back and got them and they weren't working right but insisted they were fine. In the middle of working they stopped so I had to take them back and received even more attitude for there being something wrong. I asked for a refund and they said they needed to take the piece out that they replaced which was fine but then proceeded to have my clippers for another two weeks while being extremely rude to me every time I called to check when they would be done. Very disappointed at how the customer service has dwindled there. Unfortunately will not be going back. read more

I took my partner's machete they used to bd his dad's in to see if they could remove some of the rust and sharpen it...oh, and have it ready by Christmas. They couldn't promise me anything but to my surprise I received a call 4 days before Christmas stating it was ready for pick up. The staff were kind, fun, and knowledgeable. The machete is so sharp it can slice through a receipt and they and explained how I can improve the handle. Will definitely be back and would recommend Kelly's to anyone who has sharpening needs. When having something sharpened or repaired they were right on with their ready to be picked up date, but since they are located way out on the north end of Modesto (depending on where you live) I would call first just to make sure!! I had brought in a few knives to be sharpened as well as a knife that the pocket clip had fallen off. While reinstalling the pocket clip the screw had broken off inside the knife by accident. I was asked to leave the knife for repair and I could pick it up when all the rest of the knives were ready to be picked up from sharpening. When I came to pick up the knives there was some confusion on the knife with the damaged pocket clip since the gentleman thought I broke it when in reality it was done by accident by the employee. I was frustrated a bit but knew it was a mistake. I was told to leave the knife again and I could pick it up the following week. Again after a somewhat frustrating attempt to pick up with no luck I received a call that it was finally ready. (On a side note I am extremely happy with the sharpening service. They did top notch work) When I went to pick up the knife I was given a brand new replacement knife in its place. I assume that they were unable to repair the broken screw for the pocket clip and went ahead and took the initiative to replace the damaged knife. Kelley's cutlery turned this situation around and made it right with their customers and I appreciate their gesture without me having to ask. This has secured my future business here with them and I highly recommend their services. read more

They have never been over friendly however I went in recently and the short dark haired woman who I am sure is the owner was so rude to me and it was so uncalled for. They did a great job on mine and my mom's knives last week! I wish I'd brought them in sooner! $3 a blade is great for having your knives better than new! $5 for blades in REALLY bad shape. My only complaint would be that since I was used to my old blunt blades, I accidentally cut my thumb today! (Lol) Seriously, terrific job! Mom had a couple knives that are as old as me, and their smooth cutting edge had been in such bad shape, they almost looked serrated, even those knives are as sharp as if they were brand new! read more

Although this place is not what I thought it was, it still offers a fine sharpening service at a very fair price. I brought in a few knives that needed to have a new edge put on them and Kelley's did just that in the time promised. Before walking in I thought this place would be a serious knife retailer but sadly, it is not. More of a hodge podge of products that have some sort of blade on them so as to have a reason for being in the establishment. Friendly service, good price, completed on time. I didn't want to come here because I had to wait a couple days to get my Upholstery shears back, since the other guy I used closed I was sort of forced to come here, and boy am I glad!!! My 12in shears have never cut better, I brought in another pair I i had that were in very bad shape, and I had them sharpened by a few different businesses and no one could get them to cut right, until Kelley's got them Ann's worked their magic on them! Now I have an excellent back up for my trade! I also had trouble with some hair trimmers and was ready to purchase a new set, when I brought them in to Kelley's! I have taken my knives here to get sharpened and every time my knives come back sharper then ever. A few months ago I brought my shun in because it had a chip on the tip and a big chip missing from the blade. Great local knife shop in terms of selection and service. Friendly staff and they're very helpful. That said I don't think their prices are anywhere near justified. Thankfully for consumers, we now have the ability to go on Amazon or other similar sites and order really nice knives for reasonable prices. This shop regularly charges 50-60% above Amazon prices which means they're likely charging even more above wholesale. I appreciate shopping locally and I appreciate service but I can't pay $150 for a Kershaw knife that I can get on Amazon for $100. When I asked if they would be willing to come down in price, I was given a firm "no" and my suggestion was met with incredulity. So, I walked outside of the store and ordered my knife on Amazon. I'm willing to even pay a little more to shop local and to support these guys because they do offer good service, but I'm not willing to empty my wallet. read more

I took my Zwilling J.A. Henckels Professional knives here to get sharpened and they delivered all my knives back to me with a razor's edge. They were good with the turn around time and I was very pleased with their selection of knives for sale. I took in my Busse team gemini knife for a simple sharpening, I asked not to have alot of steel taken off and if they sharpen by hand. I was told that they do sharpening by hand unless there is any major chips which my knife did not. When I got my knife back it was very crudely sharpened way past the original sharpening point... also the edge was uneven as hell and you can see the rounded uneven angle on one side. I did not wish to have the angle changed on my blade especially to such a thin and brittle point. My knife is worth $600 so as you can imagine one would be upset. Never will I go there again. I'll stick to sharpening myself read more

I've been here many times and always been impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. After just purchasing a couple of items, I decided I owed it to them to write a review. The store (which is immaculate) has a great variety of knives and accessories on display. The prices are very competitive for a family owned local business. You may be able to go online and do a tiny bit better, but you would miss out on all that a brick and mortar store has to offer. Being able to pick up a knife and see it in person is something one should put a value on. The personal service, learning things I didn't know about some of the manufacturers and their products. I had heard many good things about them before my first visit years ago, and they were all correct. I know people who have had knives sharpened here for many years (the owner does it by hand too!) How many online retailers will put serrations on a folding tactical knife you buy from them...free of charge? That's just for starters. There is always a small percentage of customers who are impossible to please (this isn't a flea market people), but if you are a reasonable person with real expectations, this place is as good as it gets! read more
