It's hard to find any allergist, let alone a good one, on the Central Coast. Especially in North…read moreCounty! My allergist in Atascadero retired recently, so I decided to come back to Allergy Partners after about 5years. AP-SLO is struggling with some basics, as the reviews indicate, but the quality of the care and medicine being practiced here is modern and top notch. Under Dr Ramos' care, I've become aware that my worsening symptoms in recent years are 100% due to asthma, despite no anaphylaxis and minimal wheezing. I'm getting new, advanced treatment, that my old allergist never mentioned existing. My quality of life is about to be greatly improved, and I thank the AP-SLO team for putting their heart into their work, despite challenges these days with insurers' negotiated rates and prior authorization runarounds, etc. Tara is a godsend, and the PA Spencer is an amazing listener and communicator. We could do much worse, Central Coast!

This clinic is great if run by competent staff. First the receptionist(S). A Latina and a heavy set…read moremale are the worse receptionists I ever encountered. This Latina was a bit condescending and got worse as conversation goes on. The issue was the charges that she can not explain well and needs my signature prior I see the doctor. Why do I sign when I haven't seen the provider? These two displays childish attitude every time I get my shot. They do not have name plates to let patients know who they are. Another issue was the red hair medical biller that got frustrated after I repeatedly clarified the charges that was not shown in my insurance account online that she kept on sending to me. I don't know if she did some training on billing base on how she conduct the charges. Tried to call the manager to complain but the manager's phone was intentionally not answered to get full and won't receive any calls (nice tactics). Another issue was the short caucasian older medical assistant who don't know how to give allergy shots. She just poke you the way she wants it. No proper training on how to give subcutaneous injection. She could be a good phlebotomist since she's good in getting the baselic vein. After all these issues I decided to look for another allergist. I was able to find one and requested Allergy Partners to transfer all my vials. After almost a month no update if it was transferred. So I called and the biller said, I owe them 300 plus and that was the reason they can not release my vials. I told her that i already paid it and the insurance also said the it was already paid. After the insurance called them and maybe they saw it in there system they apologized for the error. This incorrect billing is always the issue with this SLO office. Another one is that they will schedule you for an appointment and charge 40 dollars just to tell you to stay 30 minutes after the shot. Excellent income generating tactics.

The only allergist and immunologist in pretty much the whole county. Works maybe 3 days a week and…read morehas decided he no longer wants to work in the afternoons. Heaven's forbid you need immediate attention. I went to him because I was having many issues with allergies and I kept pushing and pushing because I was not satisfied with some results, and he wouldn't. The girls in the office looked at me like I was over reacting, and I would tell the doctor to test me for things and he would just say "assume that you have it and stay away from it". Not an answer. Supposedly I am pretty much allergic to the world. I just got a big sent to collections for $30.00 that I was not aware of. No courtesy call or anything, and I have insurance so I assumed they would tell me what was not covered either. So thanks for a small town doctor gauging me and still not giving me real answers. Allergies are symptoms, not the actual problem. He would have rather band aided all my problems than find the root of the issue. I went to my primary doctor and showed him everything I had from this office and he said "Stop going there. If I can't treat you for an obvious auto immune disease (which Dr. McLean refused to test me for, and my primary doctor could identify it right away), then I will send you to a specialist in Santa Barbara." So obviously, my primary doctor and cardiologist thought the lack of care was ridiculous. I can recommend a great primary doctor if anyone is looking, but allergist.... not in this county.

Dr McLean is a really good doctor. I have been seeing him for a few years and he has been…read moreinstrumental in helping me control my asthma and allergy symptoms. He keeps up on new technology and information. A couple months ago my asthma symptoms were getting worse. When I tried to increase my dosage of medication it did not help. I saw Dr McLean and discussed by problem. He recognized that my problem was actually silent GERD which is a form of acid reflux. The acid reflux actually exacerbates asthma symptoms. He recommended some diet and lifestyle changes that reduce acid reflux and within 2 or 3 days my symptoms were gone. Most doctors would not take the time to fully discuss the problem and get to the root of the problem. On the bad side, I agree with some other reviewers that it can be challenging to get an appointment or to get the office to communicate with the pharmacy. However, I will accept those issues to see a doctor who will keep me healthy.
