Big city style and experience for a small town price! My cut plus tip was cheaper than my base hair cut price in St. Louis! Next time I can't make the trip to St. Louis, I won't hesitate to book an appointment! My only suggestion is that they move their products over by the cash register, I forgot to buy something before they ran my card. However, it was apparent to me based on Aiden's demeanor that it had not been a "mistake", because he was not even remotely apologetic, and he made absolutely zero effort to even ask if I wanted to reschedule/to retain me as a customer; he simply insinuated I had to leave. I believe Aiden refused to service me when he saw who I was (I have never interacted with him in real life, but we have seen each other on Grindr; I had no idea he worked here, and regardless it didn't matter to me, because I came to get my hair cut, not to interact with any human being in particular). It took about an hour for the bleach to lighten my hair enough for dye, but Terra checked it frequently while kindly reassuring me the colors would still appear my desired shades. She patiently explained what she did at every step of the process, answering my questions about fading, hair damage, staining clothing, etc. She definitely knows her stuff; she showed me pictures of her hair dyed a HUGE array of colors--quite literally every color of the rainbow. Turns out most of the ladies from Hair Benders are now at No. 7! On my friend's recommendation, I drove from Decatur to Champaign for a wax from Tracy - So worth it! Not only is the price amazing ($50 for a brazilian), but Tracy is a skilled waxer. It took about 20 minutes and was pretty painless for getting hair ripped out by its roots. I enjoyed chatting with her and learned some places to check out on future trips to town, which was great. I am definitely making the trip out to the U of I campus again! Some cons: I waited 5-10 mins. past my appointment time (but again, it was so very worth it!), and when I got home I noticed some hairs that had gotten missed (no big deal - I often find thalt a few spots will have a few stubborn hairs). Also the salon has a glass storefront letting all of the afternoon sun in, so it was kind of warm inside. None of these things are a big deal to me - but may be for others. I highly recommend checking out No. 7!
