I'm a college student who walks quite a lot from class to class already, so it seemed only natural to choose a salon located is only a couple hundred feet from my residence hall, especially when it has some pretty good reviews. For the ombre, vivid color, and cut that I had, it ended up being reasonably priced as well (again, very important to a college student). And I was very pleasantly surprised! The salon is very clean and welcoming. I actually liked that it is a relatively small salon. All of the customers who went in and out during my four hours there had very friendly, neighborly conversations with all of the stylists. I'm a shy person when it comes to hair, medical, or dental appointments, so I appreciated the atmosphere. That said, I also appreciated that my stylist, Terra, didn't pressure me into constant conversation as many others usually do. She appeared focused throughout the long appointment. As for her work...OH MY GOODNESS is she talented! I told her that the purple to pink ombre I wanted on my dark hair would be the first time I've ever done a dramatic change, and it turned out absolutely beautiful. I could not have asked for a better result! It took about an hour for the bleach to lighten my hair enough for dye, but Terra checked it frequently while kindly reassuring me the colors would still appear my desired shades. She patiently explained what she did at every step of the process, answering my questions about fading, hair damage, staining clothing, etc. She definitely knows her stuff; she showed me pictures of her hair dyed a HUGE array of colors--quite literally every color of the rainbow. Terra is not only a wonderful stylist, but also seems to be a compassionate and thoughtful person. I will recommend her to anyone looking for an excellent salon experience. I look forward to coming back here in the future! (Note: I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4 but for the almost rude receptionist who first scheduled my appointment. She did not greet me at all and seemed annoyed to even be answering my call. I found No 7 Salon & Spa when I was trying to track down Tracy from Hair Benders (it closed), who had been recommended by a friend for her waxing skills. Turns out most of the ladies from Hair Benders are now at No. 7! On my friend's recommendation, I drove from Decatur to Champaign for a wax from Tracy - So worth it! Not only is the price amazing ($50 for a brazilian), but Tracy is a skilled waxer. It took about 20 minutes and was pretty painless for getting hair ripped out by its roots. I enjoyed chatting with her and learned some places to check out on future trips to town, which was great. I am definitely making the trip out to the U of I campus again! Some cons: I waited 5-10 mins. past my appointment time (but again, it was so very worth it!), and when I got home I noticed some hairs that had gotten missed (no big deal - I often find thalt a few spots will have a few stubborn hairs). Also the salon has a glass storefront letting all of the afternoon sun in, so it was kind of warm inside. None of these things are a big deal to me - but may be for others. What a great little spot! I didn't have a go-to salon in Champaign-Urbana, but after seeing some good reviews on Chambanamoms, I decided to give No. 7 a try, and I'm so glad I did! The salon makes great use of space, and the stylists are all very fun and lively. Michelle cut my hair, and she was very patient and listened carefully to what I wanted. It was a relatively big cut, and it turned out great! Plus, the price was terrific for a college student: only $25 for wash, cut, and blow dry (before tip). I'll definitely go back! read more

Taking a star off today. I had an appointment at 2:15pm for my eyebrows wax but didn't get to do it until 2:26pm. 11 minutes doesn't seem that long but the eyebrows wax itself took 5 minutes. Waxing skill/quality is average, not very impressed. read more

The girl who dyed my hair was Krissie and she did a good job at covering up my hair which was dyed blue with brown. She also gave me a good haircut. My complaint is that she twirled the chair with the thrust of her stomach every single time. It was disturbing. She seemed like she did not want to be there. She was unfriendly and acted like I was a pest in her everyday routine. I wouldn't go back, or at least not to her. read more

I just went in to get my eyebrows waxed, and was not impressed. The woman who worked with me (never introduced herself) seemed rushed and like she would rather be anywhere else. She missed a few spots, and set my eyebrows a little too far apart (thankfully they will grow back). I tried this place because of the convenience, but I think I'll stick to threading or my waxing place back home. read more

Ask for Terra Akers. Went for the 1st time this week and it is truly the best experience I have ever had at salon. She was so gentle and meticulous with my eyebrows. I needed a touch up with my buzz cut. Again, gentle. Asked lots of questions- as a girl with a buzz cut I have had a lot of hairstylists and barbers cut my hair boyish. She was sure to ask exactly what style I wanted and even suggested a few things based on my natural hairlines. It was $20 total for a buzz cut and eyebrow wax!!! Normally I pay that amount for each. She was quick, nice, very knowledgeable and friendly. I will 100% be back and will schedule appointments with her specifically. read more

Pretty great place, just got my haircut not more than 30 mins ago and Dana (pronounce dawna i believe) was a great. Nice, knowledgable and talkative, everything was there to make this place my regular haircut place. We struck up a nice conversation that flowed pretty well without feeling forced. I had about six months of hair on me so she literally cut off a pound of hair and it was only 20 dollars even which even makes the price right for me. If you need a hair cut grab a couple pictures of what you want and head on down. Would definitely suggest this place to a friend. one last quick note, i think i saw a credit card reader so i think they accept cards but it is not a definite so i won't check that box read more

Terra Davis is absolutely amazing. I got a hair cut from her a while back, and absolutely loved it (long hair with long layers... she did a great job!). I recently came back to get color done. She took the time to listen to me, look at pictures with me and chat about the process to determine exactly what I wanted. This place was awesome! Very friendly atmosphere, I was in and out in under 30 minutes. Terra was great, she helped me out with exactly what I wanted and took time to make sure it was right. After she was done with my cut, she offered to style my hair in any way I liked (simple blow dry, blow dry with brush, done with a straightener, or curled). Love this clean beautiful light filled space. Terra is a fantastic hair stylist and this is the only place to go to get waxed - it doesn't hurt at all when she does it. So happy to have found it after years of getting bad hair cuts all over town. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Absolute worst dye job I've ever received. I asked for a subtle balayage (basically a higher ombré), and they made me bleach blonde almost all the way to my roots (my hair was very brunette). My hair is damaged and I had to go all the way to Chicago to fix it. She dried out by hair from the bleach and it's going to take awhile to repair. The woman was also rude and complained about how thick my hair was the entire time. read more

Recently had my hair dyed and cut at this salon. It was NOT a great experience for me. My hair did not come out the exact color I wanted (which is completely fine, I understand that it's not going to be perfect), but even worse, the midsection faded before the tips did so it looks absolutely terrible (mind you, I have only had this look for a few days now). I asked for a dark root on this dye job, akin to black. Instead, I got this dark red brown color, which is rapidly fading. When getting my hair dyed, I was expecting the "stylist" to tone my hair, she did not, and she questioned why my hair had a green tint to it (and I say "stylist" because when I checked their website, she is listed as the receptionist). The haircut is botched too - not only did she cut off way more of my hair than I wanted her too, it's cut unevenly now. During the entire experience, my stylist was condescending towards what I wanted and seemed to have no clue on how to deal with my hair type, or how to get it to my desired style. I do no recommend going to the particular stylist I had (Megan), and I cannot speak for the others there. read more

Tracy has been cutting my hair for many years (at least 7!). She is fantastic!!! I could not recommend her more highly. I'm moving to Chicago and I'm actually worried about finding someone there who I like as much as Tracy! She takes the time to listen to what I want and she's honest with me about what she thinks will look good or not. If it's not the way she or I wants it, she has no problem spending the extra time to get it just right. Most importantly, she's skilled at what she does. I've never walked out unhappy and believe me, I've done a lot of different things with my hair (dark, light, short, long, red, blonde). Their prices are also incredibly reasonable. She is good enough that she could be charging 3x as much in Chicago. I've recommended her to many of my friends over the years who have also been very happy. read more
