Our waitress was friendly and attentive, but she didn't seem very familiar with the menu and couldn't offer recommendations, which would have helped since it was our first time. As for the food: the boom boom shrimp and lamb sliders were both good and definitely the highlights. However, the fish tacos were extremely salty--so much so that I couldn't finish them. Overall, the vibe is cool and I'd consider coming back for drinks, but based on this experience, I don't think I'd return for the food. We do appreciate the free dessert, I'm just still hungry

The selection is honestly one of their biggest strengths--whether it's groceries, prepared foods, or drinks, there's a lot to choose from. That said, the prices are noticeably high across the board, especially for gas and everyday grocery items. The food-to-go section is where things start to fall off. It always looks solid in the case, but somehow never tastes as good as it should. It's not terrible--it's just consistently underwhelming. The bistro itself is decent, but nothing special. If you've had Middle Eastern-style grill spots before, you've had this. Plenty of lamb and shawarma options, but nothing that really stands out. The one exception: the Thai peanut chicken wings and the shoestring fries are actually really good and worth ordering. They also advertise a huge beer selection--something like 100 options--but in reality, the taps are rarely all running, which takes away from what could be a big highlight. One thing that stood out on my last visit was how strong the smell of cleaner was inside. It was almost overpowering and made it tough to sit and enjoy a meal. On the flip side, it was definitely clean--maybe just a little too clean in that moment. Overall, Alex's Market & Grill has a lot of potential with its variety and concept, but it ends up being more average than it looks at first glance. However, as i was walking past the popcorn stand I must have glanced at my weakness - sugar. The guy behind the table caught me and handed me a tiny cup of caramel corn and said "it's made in Oxford by a Gourmet chef". I stood in line for my turkey trying not to snarf this amazingly delicious carmel corn. Turkey in hand I now had to stop on my way out and buy a whole bag of Will Cole Butter Pecan Carmel Corn. ($7 for an 8oz bag) That's about double the cost of a potatoe chip but oh so much better and so much more Michigan. This carmel corn is the real deal. The first thing that struck us is that It was so loud in the restaurant, we couldn't hear the waiter or carry on a conversation in a normal voice. Part of the issue is just the high ceilings and hard surfaces in the restaurant, but the bigger issue was that there was the constant bass thump of club music playing. The music selection is dead last in what I would choose for fine dining. The Ceasar Salad was excellent, and the the Classic Wedge wasn't bad, but should be called "The Nearly Wedge." Making the wedge from baby gem instead of iceberg just doesn't hold up as classic. The pickeled onions and the tomatoes add a nice flavor, but the blue cheese and bacon should be the star of this salad and both were lacking. For mains, I had the Wagyu Ribeye which was excellent. Perfectly to temp, well seasoned, an excellent crust, and a first rate piece of meat. Both my wife's Prime Filet and the Hassleback potato were tales of two halves. Half the steak was tender and flavorful, and the other half was tougher and would have failed without the zip sauce. It wasn't a bad steak, but not up to a top steakhouse. For sides, we had the asparagus, which was excellent, and the hassleback potato. The potato was flavorful, but only the ends were cooked thoroughly. The center was undercooked to the point of not being edible. We pointed this out to the server, and the response was proper and a bit beyond. Not only did they remove the potato from the bill, but also comped a piece of carrot cake for desert, which my wife thoroughly enjoyed. Rudy's doesn't even make my top 10 list for Metro Detroit steakhouses, and there's no comparison with Capital Grille, Wilder's or even the Rochester Chop House. It's unlikely I'll return.

I ordered the lemon blueberry pancakes, which were filled with tons of blueberries and had a nice light lemon taste. They were quite fluffy and enjoyable.
