They had lots of tomato plants, peppers, cabbage, cukes and lettuce all reasonably priced. We passed on the budding flowers -- just too soon in the season, we think. But they had a lot of choices, so we'll be back in mid-May. We also like their indoor store; they have some fresh-grown tomatoes that are tasty and sell some very good locally grown canned and bottled products (try their apple sauce - really yummy). Good folks.

We drop by Moscarillo's several times each year, sometimes finding what we want at the right price,…read moresometimes not so much. This year not so much. A couple of things about this garden shop. First, it's much larger than you might think from the road. There are lots and lots of flowers, veggies and other garden items; no quarreling over the choices to be found here. And for the most part the staff has proven helpful. Mostly. Our main issue is over the prices -- this is not a shop for anyone operating on a budget. And in the spring of 2024, it's pretty expensive here to buy potting plants, perennials, hanging baskets, fertilizer, potting soil, vegetables and the like. You may legitimately argue over whether the likes of Home Depot and Lowes can match the quality here, but they certainly do better when it comes to pricing. Check it out -- you may disagree. But at least you have been cautioned.

This place is a lot bigger than it looks. We found the very hard to find Donkey Tail or Burrito succulents! We bought 2 of those, a String of Teardrop, and a tiny String of Pearls. I also found the most beautiful rain gauge there. They had a really nice selection of all landscaping plants and flowers, even a nice sized selection of houseplants. Everything in this store is well taken care of and healthy. Lastly, the prices were very reasonable. I can highly recommend this place.

It was raining, and so I wasn't working in the yard. I assume that the dump truck bed was not clean when they loaded it, but they offered no explanation. I was told, "no, it should not have rocks in it". The kind man who took my call assured me that the manager/owner would call me back to discuss it. No call. No concern. I have been a repeat customer, but no more. Beware, if you buy any dump truck load of anything from The Stockyard in Torrington, CT. Inspect it before the driver leaves. My Fantasy hydrangea arrived completely dehydrated and wilted due to an eight day UPS shipping experience from this company to the West Coast. The leaves were completely droopy and it was in very poor health. I have been nursing it back to health for a month now. All the canes are dead and new growth is finally emerging at the base after a lot of TLC. This company needs to switch to FedEx as their carrier and not use UPS, especially for longer transit. I never have this issue with Garden Crossings for my orders because they use FedEx 2-3 day. Everything arrives perfect from them.

Plus, the store is closing tomorrow in 2/19/18, so get your shopping in now with their deep discount (it seems up to about 50%). A lot of things in the store are very pretty, but really overpriced. There are no hidden treasures here you're going to overpay for, and some of the items seem to have a few liberties taken with their description. One of my shopping companions, an admittedly self taught glass collector, point out one "hand blown" bowl that was quite clearly pressed, including the makers mark.
