Right from the beginning, they had us sign waivers, but nobody bothered to ask who was actually planning on participating in the activities. If they had, I could have stopped the whole process right there because only our 2-year-old was there to play. For what we paid (around $80), there was very little to do. They basically had a small playground that you could find for free at any park around town, a couple of tube slides that were extremely slow, and a bounce house that wasn't even working. The value simply wasn't there. Had we known what was actually available, we never would have paid that much. Families with young kids should know what they're getting into before spending their money here. Save yourself the disappointment, skip this place, and go spend your money on a raspberry shake instead.

In peak travel season, its not polite to no be open when advertised. I would understand if this were off season, but peak August? It seems this place has maybe high school or college aged kids running it? We went in late July and were so enthralled with the scenery the whole way to the spring. It is vastly green, with plenty of wildflowers along the trail. Stop and see some raspberries, and even some wildlife hanging out in the water (there was a mama and baby moose there along our hike!) The River coming down from the spring is absolutely gorgeous, but of course, fast and freezing, so even though it goes without saying, don't let your little ones get too close. Although there are plenty of spots for adults to stop and dip in their toes or hands for a quick cool off. Once you walk to the top of the trail and the base of the spring, (about a mile walk) the hike gets much steeper and more difficult. I actually didn't know we were going on this hike so I wore sandals up the trail with no problem, but I wouldn't recommend it for hiking to the top, there are steep rocks and slippery slopes of dirt that require shoes with good traction. The top of the spring is such a delight! With a fantastic view cascading down the mountain, you can see the intermittent spring turning on and off every 12-18 minutes. It honestly feel like magic! Once we got to the top of the spring I felt like my kids were safe there. We all had a great time playing on the rocks and filling our water bottles with cool fresh spring water! Right before the steep trail at the top are picnic tables for those travelers wanting to take it easy. There are also some picnic tables at the parking lots. I would absolutely recommend this hike in star valley with or without kids, for older people, or even those who want to take it easy with a little extra exercise. July was around 80° and not too hot. I'm sure it'd be a great one to hike in the fall as well!

So this is what I hear. That because if some very odd geology this spring runs for 15-20 minutes…read morethen almost like you turned off the spigot stops for 15-20 minutes then restarts again for another round. A little research later on reveals that this is one of only a couple places in the world with a cold water, intermittent spring. Well this I gotta see!! Getting to the spring in late July is beautiful. All sunshine, bubbly creek, flowers and butterflies. A five mile drive and a mile or so hike and you're there. But it turns out this intermittent thing has a seasonality to it and we're just a touch early. Well that's OK. It's a beautiful area, lovely day.... Hey, what is that? There's some big thing covering part of the creek and it's got branches and other debris on top. Wait... that's snow... in July. That's a bridge of snow that crosses the creek. And on the uphill side it's at least 30 feet tall!!!! Unreal!! This spring is located in a steep sided canyon that rarely gets any sun. The snow that falls here apparently slides down the walls and accumulates at a pinch point. It compresses and becomes more like ice than snow. Dust and tree debris cover the top insulating it and slowing melting from the top. And voila.... ice bridge!! The path to the head of the spring leads on top of this bridge so on the way up and down you can pelt all your friends with snowballs, ....in July. Got to climb further up the canyon and got some pretty interesting photos. The spring water was delicious and the chance to hang out with the fam and enjoy this beautifulI canyon was awesome. Wish we'd been able to see the spring do it's thing but the chance to see this ginormous ice bridge made up for any dissatisfaction.

I particularly like going to these yurts during the winter - as you can backcountry ski to your own little piece of solitude in the snow. The actual yurts are 30 miles south of Evanston in the north slope of the high Uinta mountains. Great spot for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking and backcountry skiing. My husband and I first discovered this spot back in 2015 - we rented the Boundary Creek yurt, which is the only one out of 5 that you can't access via snowmobile. It's the most rustic of the huts without a propane gas tank. We were out there in early December, and had to break trail for 2 miles following a snowstorm - tough work but super worth it!! This year, a group of us rented the Ridge Yurt over New Years Eve. It was a perfect spot for 7 of us, and our 2 dogs, to bring in the new year. This yurt has a propane stove, a set of 3 bunkbeds - 7 of us fit comfortably. There were sleeping pads provided for 6 of us - although, you that was a luxury that is not promised when you first reserve the yurt - so we were happy with the extra padding. Plenty of firewood provided, pots, pans, plates and utensils provided. We took it easy and booked a snowmobile shuttle from Bear River Lodge, as we got to the area late from SLC, and it allowed us to carry in more weight to make fancy meals. Had a great time hiking around during the day to earn a few turns. Sunsets were absolutely incredible. Had lots of peace and quiet and wasn't bothered by a soul the whole trip. If you're a backcountry skiier or boarder, the 4.5 mile ski out is easy peasy. Took us around 1.5 hours to ski out with our packs. Beautiful scenery the whole way down. Only complaint both times was the snowpack - wished there was more pow! Be sure to keep an eye on the Utah Avalanche Center for updated reports if you go out. Also - spots go FAST for the winter - keep an eye out for when they're taking reservations, and have a few dates in mind. Reservations are only taken over the phone.

We visited in winter to experience playing around on a frozen lake and it was such a cool…read moreexperience (no pun intended)! But definitely be very careful bc the ice is still thin in a lot of areas! I fell through some! Luckily it was at an edge and very shallow and I was wearing some serious hiking shoes with decent waterproofing lol. It's really an experience to get out and walk around on the ice like that! You'll see holes from previous ice fisherman and you'll see people actively ice fishing too. We were able to determine how thick the ice was by sticking our arm down one of the abandoned holes! I'd say it was probably about 6 inches thick or so! Very cool to see! The sun had just set and the sky was incredibly beautiful with all its fiery oranges, soft pinks and subtle lavenders! And the ice makes all sorts of fascinating noises when you walk around and jump and skip rocks and slide and play...definitely a feast for your senses! It's easy to find - just follow your gps and it'll take you to the entrance. Head towards the boat ramp to the left and you'll see plenty of parking - but it's more gravel and dirt parking and not terribly well-marked - but you'll see all the other vehicles. There are some buildings around the area - and I think one had some bathrooms but I didn't investigate so I'm not 100% sure. But everything looked well maintained. There so seem to be entrance fees for various activities and during certain "seasons". But in winter like this I think it was free? I'm not sure - I didn't see anything on their fee chart that seemed to apply to us. And we passed a staff member at the gate and he waved nicely so seemed like we did the right thing lol.

I believe it's 15 dollars to use the ramp. 4 dollars for walk in access. This is all closed in winter. I mostly visit in the winter. During this time you can park up by the road and walk to the lake for free. The main negative for me is the road noise coming from I-80. Fishing can be hit or miss. Besides trout there are bass, perch and catfish. Good luck!
