Known as the birthplace of the JC Penney department store [Kemmerer WY]
Kemmerer, Wyoming is a coal mining town located in the south western part of the state but it has grown into a city with a population of 2,386. It still has that small town feel, though.
We came here mainly to check out the JCPenney mother store. Yup, James Cash Penny started his whole empire in none other than Kemmerer WY, and an employee suggested that we also go visit the J.C. Penney Homestead, which has been open to the public since 1904. To see the home of James Cash Penney is free (donations accepted) but you will have to pay for anything you purchase at the first JCPenney mother store LoL!
We stopped by the Opera House Store for some home baked banana bread and to quench our thirst. Don't be fooled by the name... it is actually a mercantile and bakery shop.
Wish we had more time here to check out the Fossil Butte National Monument.
