We had our front landscaping completed by Ken and his crew in 2020. They finished right before lockdown. Ken had been highly recommended by several friends of mine. I do want to let you know that he is expensive but I am so pleased with my front yard, I also recommend him highly. During lock down my plants thrived and brought me and continue to bring me joy. I have color all year round as a result of Ken's good selection of plants. We were guided by Ken to select plants at a nursery after we discussed our front yard. He also helped us set up a great lighting plan for the yard. I can strongly recommend the mason he used, what an amazing walkway! Ken Green landscaping review We used Ken Green for our front and back yard land scaping and hardscape. Initially he had us work with a landscape designer to come up with a basic plan. The plan was paid for outside of the job cost, since there was no way for him to price the job without a plan. We adjusted the plan to our liking, mainly removing things to reduce the cost of the project. Some of the items could will be done at a later date (i.e. barbeque island). As we were discussing the project and trying to get an estimate of cost, he would not commit to any firm costs. He started out with an estimate range for various part of the project with some minor details of what was to be done in each part. We did not receive an itemized cost list. In the end, his final cost for all items were at the top of his estimate, even though I did some prep work so as to reduce cost (i.e. spray Roundup to kill the existing grass, removing some bricks). I am still not sure if he did reduce any cost due to that work, since nothing was itemized. The project took a while to get started, partly due to the rains we had. This put him behind schedule. In order to get some of it moving, I suggested that the hardscape work start first; it did, due to his contractor having a bit of time to get to our property before he started a 3-month project. Ken gave us one day's notice of him starting. The hard scape crew worked hard and did a great job. He told us that he was a detailed person, but we found out that is only so once he got started. He suggested to us a change of plan which cost an additional $690. I would have thought that he should have seen that as he was reviewing the plan to create a cost for the job. In addition, he told us he would take us to the nursery to help make plant decisions but never did. Several other items were added to the cost, most we agreed upon, but one item we assumed was in the cost estimate, but when presented with change order form it was there for an additional $680. We are not entirely happy with the plant selection and placement. Work continued at a reasonable pace. His crew cleaned up each night. In the prep for irrigation, his crew broke open a drain pipe and if I had not seen it, the crew would have just covered it over. He repaired the part his crew damaged and charged for an additional several feet which were also damaged at some point in time, not sure his team did it. Once all was done, I reviewed the job to what the landscape plan had. for things which were missed and dead plants. I paid him a completion payment, but held back $500, to insure the last minutes details were completed. He said he would take care of my issues, but I needed to contact him several times to get anything done. He came to our house to finish up and said he tried to contact us, we were home, but did not hear him. I had told him to call prior to coming to the house, so we could meet and discuss the final issues, which he never did. I contacted him the next day after he did some work, since I did not know he had done anything. This was done only via text messaging. He said he had finished up all work, except he did not. There was an area to be mulched in the rear side of our property and some items behind our locked fences which needed clean up. When I told him that, he said he would get to it "next week". That was OK with me, but he never came by to complete the work. I have E-mailed him several times and he with additional problems. Another issue was how he placed sprinklers. Some were placed right behind bushes, so other neary by plants could not be watered. The blocked sprinklers almost caused several plants to die. Since I caught it in time they were saved. Others later died since I missed that they were not receiving water due to same reason. Other sprinklers were placed so we are watering the walkway, not a good way to save water. I was expecting a drip system for the plants in the mulched area, but this never happened. I think that this is wasting water and encouraging weeds in areas with no plants. In summary, our yard looks good. But when looking closely there many things that bother me. Nutsedge coming up over the front yard where none was before he started work. Small plants were placed among fast growing ones, and were quickly covered over and died. Our problems with Ken Green is in adequate estimation, lack of returning emails, text messages and getting to items he said he would complete when he said he would. read more

We met with several landscape designers when we first decided to transform our back yard. Some of them had decent ideas but then didn't follow up with estimates and others did not seem to have a clear vision. Then we met Ken - he had great suggestions (as my husband pointed out, he was the only one who was a true "designer"), was very personable, and followed up within a few days with his bid. Fast forward to now and what was once a large useless space with a lot of overgrown ivy is a colorful, drought tolerant, beautiful yard. He also installed lights throughout that make it perfect for evening entertaining, redid the drainage system, and came up with a brilliant plan to obscure two hideously ugly utility lines. We are very happy customers and highly recommend him! A little extra note: the whole family went along to pick out flowers/plants with him and my daughter, who loves flowers, showed us one that she particularly liked. A few days later he surprised her by putting a small pot in the yard with the flower in it. She was thrilled and we thought it was such a thoughtful gesture. We found Ken from our driveway installer. Ken is magnificent and turned our front house of dirt into a beautiful yard. Plants, trees, boulders are all balanced and in addition the sprinklers, and drip system were installed. His workers were polite and at the end of the day, all materials and equipment were put away. Not knowing much about plants, I had Ken choose the plants and our house looks beautiful. Ken did an amazing job on our elevated planter that runs the length of our backyard. I gave him a general idea of what I was looking for and he ran with it. He gave the wife and I detailed plans and drawings and kept us informed through the whole process. I have put off this review for several months as I have been reluctant to give a negative review as the crew worked really hard. Ken however does not stand behind his work. We have had problems with the drip system for about 10-12 months and in turn lost several plants. I supplemented hand watering in the hot months. We contacted Ken numerous times (text and email). He came out once to look and said he would return with new plants and check the system after I pulled up plants with him and noticed they were dry. (It seems there may be a filter in the system although we asked him where and how to clean it.) He has not returned although he has said he would a few times Many emails/texts later - with no answer, he still has not shown. At one point he referenced he never received the good (5star) review he wanted. I replied I rarely review and did not realize a review was necessary for him to stand behind his work and his word. I also mentioned with this type of work it is always a good idea to wait to see how all things look/grow and I would review when we got things fixed. The yard was finished in november 2015, so yes it has been going on for a very long time. It seems we have been totally blown off - the last 2 emails were sent within the last 2 weeks. Ken did a complete backyard make-over more than a year ago. Removed over 40 juniper trees front and back, new retaining wall, new vinyl fence front and back, complete backyard landscaping, gas rock fire pit, and accent lighting. Ken had me go with him to select all of the plants and gave me advice on what would work and look best. He kept me up-to-date with his schedule and the work that was being done. He accommodated future plans for items that would be added later. He offered suggestions (such as the accent lighting) that looks great! Overall, the work is spectacular and looks great today. Ken has a good eye for design. His use of color and texture of drought tolerant plants, small boulders with a flag stone path way produced a very pretty garden for our rear yard. My wife and I decided recently to take up an opportunity to renovate our original 20 year old landscape into a drought -resistant scheme. We saw a program with the DWP to convert the lawn to rocks ----bad move! It was a disaster and the landscape looked awful. After a several months of living with this sheer nightmare, we sucked it up and decided to get a real landscaper to perform the work. My wife did her diligence and found Ken Green. From the get-go, Ken was tremendously involved in both the design, material selection, construction logistics and the cost of the new program. Once the materials were selected, the construction crew began their work. Despite the large demolition, the work was well supervised and coordinated. The actual installation of both the hard and softscapes too were well managed. (Note our association in Porter Ranch is very strict and we fielded no complaints.) Ken was well engaged and visited our site regularly during the entire construction phase and we were able to interact with him actively.
