I got 4 quotes, Pineda's was in the middle but was offering a higher quality build than other guys at the same price point. These guys don't cut corners, they do it right. They aren't trying to upsell you, they aren't trying to scam you, they just want to build you something that will be beautiful and last, and be paid fairly for their work. We LOVE our wall and patio, couldn't be happier. I'm doing my driveway next and I won't even get quotes, I'll just call Pineda's.

I never heard back from them again. I can't say what their work is like, but I became disappointed when I wasn't called back. I did like both brothers, I just think some things got lost between the two. Not really sure. We ended going with another company who did a fabulous job. So all in all the work got done.

They added few rows without paying attention to detail of adding sufficient concrete between them. My mom had to tell the workers to fill in the gaps. Then we had to tell them to fill in the gaps on our neighbor side because we share a wall. They did lazy work. Those areas were not filled at the joints. Needless to say, years later, today I am having issues with the wall. Because of the size block they used, my wall is now leaning and starting to buckle out. The new contractor I hired said this new block that was added is not up to code and it is the incorrect type/size. They should have never used it. Contractor also said many blocks are not set correctly because the joints were not properly adhered together with enough concrete between them. I was charged $1300 to add these 2-3 rows of blocks. And this was at least 7-8 years ago. I feel like I was ripped off. Now I have to tear the wall down and do it all over again because it has leaned to far it can't be repaired. It has to be replaced. Very upsetting especially because I wanted to hire a small local business. I want to support my community. It feels like they took advantage of our lack of knowledge behind wall building and codes. That's prob the worst part.

Renovation inevitably comes with unexpected turns, but his team was able to help us reasonably navigate rerouting water and gas line, working around sprinklers and adding electrical. We tore out our crumbling concrete driveway, expanded over parts of the lawn, and added pavers from the driveway to the backyard. Most construction jobs are messy, right? Opening up any part of our properties that have been resting for years and or decades, can create more problems than they solve. So while our experience with Kokonut Koncrete wasn't perfect, in my home improvement experience, I don't think any project truly can be. That said, we love how Francis and his team transformed our modest concrete slab that has been serving this home for over 70 years. What was broken and weathered, now looks modern, fresh, and ready to take on another half century. It was a tough project for us, but Placido's team did fantastic job…read more Long story here: We hired general contractor for landscaping & hardscaping project: Replace concrete within pavers on: - driveway - walkway + rebuild porch - backyard - build few small planter walls Landscape: artificial turf on fronyard + one small area. Roughly 1500sqft pavers and 1000sqft turf. First subcontractor did demolition, no excavation, no prep and started laying pavers. on 80% of project completion, we stopped this chaos. We could not look at interim results without crying: drainage not planned, not leveled, bricks cut is terrible, borders around laid pavers not planned and another round of perimeter cuts is not avoidable. Dust everywhere, trash is not disposed and laying everywhere. Needless to mentioned, chaos was lasting 2 months. We were tired and raised notice to general contractor, who seems did not care much, everything by spec, PM said. General contractor starting bringing new teams to evaluate state of project and finish it. 4 Teams come and rejected to completed it. It was disaster. To be honest, owner of business promised the project will be completed within highest quality. I waited.... When Placido come for assessment, I did not believe he could even do something here. In first day he made something what changed my mind - his team rebuild porch and it looked amazingly well, same as we wanted. I started communicating within him and his team, and in a few days they finished walkway. Same promising results, same impressions. Hope started raising, this team is what I was looking for! But, we quickly realize, we do not want to finish project, we have to REDO it. Hopefully, general contractor accepted our concerns and Placido started. Team, teared everything, compacted, leveled, designed drainage and layer pavers. I'm sharing few pics of this fantastic works. We as owners, we stand two projects, regardless, result worth it. I never had issues with team. They listen you, they follow up raised concerns (not much I had at all), clean and accurate job. I recommend Placido and his team for projects where the customer wants to get a quality result. I wish him to maintain the same level of quality of the implemented projects.

What made this project especially important to us was that we managed the entire job remotely from our home in Northern California. Danny made that process remarkably easy. He communicated consistently, answered every question thoroughly, sent frequent photos and videos, and kept us informed throughout the preparation and installation. We never felt out of the loop. The quality of the work was outstanding. Their team removed the existing decomposed granite, properly prepared and graded the area, installed and compacted a base, added the weed barrier, carefully laid and trimmed the turf around curved borders and existing stepping stones, secured the edges and seams, applied the upgraded zeolite infill, and power-broomed the finished surface. They clearly cared about the details--not just whether it looks good on installation day. Danny also stood out during the bidding process. We received several quotes, and he was transparent about the exact turf product, specifications, backing, base preparation, and infill options. He did not simply recommend the most expensive upgrade. Instead, he explained what he believed was the best balance of durability, appearance, and long-term value for a family rental property. That honesty gave us a great deal of confidence. The finished yard looks great. The turf has a lush, natural appearance, the curved edges and transitions were handled beautifully, and the existing pavers, mature landscaping, and black lava-rock planter areas were preserved and integrated very well. Most importantly, our tenants are thrilled with the result, and so are we. Danny and his crew were professional, responsive, easy to work with, and clearly took pride in doing a quality job. Managing a major landscaping project from several hundred miles away could have been stressful, but they made it straightforward and reassuring. After being treated badly by two previous contractors and wasting a significant amount of money on…read morework that added little value to our properties, we knew we couldn't afford another mistake. Ironically, both of those contractors had been recommended by people we knew. That experience taught us an important lesson: we needed to do our own research and find someone we could truly trust. Danny was actually my favorite candidate from the beginning when I started collecting bids in late 2023. His quote wasn't the cheapest, and at first I questioned the price. Later, Danny explained something he called the "salami tactic." Some contractors intentionally submit low bids by leaving out critical work that inexperienced homeowners don't know to ask for. Those missing items eventually become expensive change orders, and the surprises never seem to end. We experienced exactly that. One previous contractor knew our electrical system couldn't support the appliances we planned to install, yet he simply said, "Anything you want." The project looked good on the surface, but it wasn't done properly. We eventually had to open finished walls again just to upgrade the electrical system. What I appreciate most about Danny is his honesty. He never told us what we wanted to hear just to win the job. He explained what actually needed to be done, why it mattered, and what could happen if shortcuts were taken. Sometimes those conversations weren't easy, but looking back, he was protecting our investment, not trying to increase the bill. Throughout the project, Danny communicated clearly, answered every question patiently, and treated our renovation as if it were his own. When unexpected issues came up--as they often do in a 100-year-old building--he didn't disappear or make excuses. He solved them. Even after the project was substantially completed, he came back to address the remaining punch-list items. That level of responsibility is rare. Today we have a duplex we're truly proud of, and more importantly, we have confidence that it was built correctly and safely. If you're looking for the lowest bid, Danny may not always be your contractor. But if you're looking for honesty, integrity, craftsmanship, and someone who genuinely cares about your project, I can recommend Danny and the entire MY CALI BUILDERS team without hesitation.
