Dan and I fell in love with Alaska back in 2016 when we went on our first Alaskan cruise. The following year, we did a cruise tour and realized that Alaska has more to offer than just the cruise. So, we always discussed since then to plan an Alaskan vacation that was more land than a cruise. However, the pandemic happened and our vacation plans were on the shelf until this year. We are not avid fishermen. I haven't touched a pole since I was a child but we decided to book a 5 day fishing package with Kenai Riverbend Resort that's located in Soldotna, Alaska. Once I booked with them and they received our payment, they emailed our confirmation as well as travel information, packing instructions and obtaining fishing licenses. Best.DECISION.ever We flew into Anchorage and decided to rent a car to take the scenic drive to Soldotna (roughly 3 hours). The resort is located by the Kenai River and it has been in business for 40+ years by the Cho family. The history of how this business came into fruition is amazing and every American dream for anyone who comes to America. They have a lot of returning visitors. One man shared he's been vacationing at Kenai Riverbend Resort for 20+ years! Talk about great customer service when you hear stories like this. At the resort, you can either rent an RV space, lodge (2 or less) or cabin (4 or more). If you don't have fishing gear, they have the necessary gear to make your fishing excursions successful. Their guides are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and have been with the company for years. Dan and I were upgraded to a cabin next to the river and it was just beautiful. This is glamping at its finest. The cabin had a fridge, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes, hot plate and a gas grill. Dan and I agreed that next time we are here, we are buying a week's worth of groceries instead of dining out. We had 2 halibut fishing excursions at Cook Inlet and Homer as well as 2 silver salmon excursions on the river. Dan and I came prepared with our seabands and motion sickness medication. Our first day on halibut fishing, the guides (Christian and Mason) were super helpful and the remaining group were fun (I was the only female and they all cheered when I got the first catch of the day!). We forgoed the second day of halibut fishing to rest and explore instead. Our third day was an afternoon of silver salmon fishing on the river. While the current flowed fast, the river was smooth. Our guide, Jeremy was helpful and fun as well while we fished. Our fourth day was a morning of silver salmon fishing on the river, which went by quickly because we all caught the max number of salmon (3 per person) for the day. It was cold, rainy and fun! If you're wondering about the fish we caught, the resort will clean, filet, vacuum seal your fish and freeze it all until you check out. You can either have it mailed via FedEx or have them box it for you to travel with. Note: Anchorage International Airport has a storage freezer for your fish if you're planning to stay overnight in Anchorage. ***If you're traveling through Seattle from Anchorage and will be staying overnight...contact your hotel to see if they'll store it in their freezer as the SmartCarte baggage storage does not open until 8am at SeaTac. We took home 70+ lbs of fish. The resort and surrounding area was peaceful, serene and breathtaking. Alaska always brings things back into perspective about life. Keep it simple. Are we returning? My husband and I had the perfect time. Don took care of us. As regulations changed on the river, they adjusted our trip to make it the best possible. Our fishing package included 5 nights in their log cabin and 4 days fishing for King Salmon at 2 of their famous rivers and deep sea fishing for Halibut. Our river guide, Jeremy, for King Salmon and Capt Drew for our Halibut fishing were great and knew the hot spots. We came home with 91lbs of fish. Our log cabin was super cute and the entire resort was picturesque as it was right next to the Kenai river. Waking up and seeing that beautiful river is how Alaska living should be. Also our lodge gave us extra clothing that was helpful in keeping us dry and warm. They also had poles for us to borrow as we fished right off our deck. We will definitely be going again. read more

This is our second year at Kenai Riverbend Resort. If we're lucky this will be our annual resort for the rest of our lives. The Cho family has created the most warm and friendly environment. This year we brought friends because it is so wonderful. The fishing trips are amazing. Halibut trips out of Deep Creek. Salmon trips right from the resort. We are going home with all of our fish, filleted, vacuum packaged, frozen and packed for the plane. The lodge and cabins are luxury rustic and sit on the edge of the Kenai River. I'm trying to figure out how I can retire and spend all summer here. It's heaven. read more

If you want to fish the right way with the right guides you need to book a trip through Donny and Johnny at Kenai River bend Resort. These guys have been around since day 1 on the Kenai River and have now expanded all over the peninsula to include halibut fishing and fly out trips to put you on the fish. Book Kyle on a river trip during King or Red season if he's available and be prepared to leave with sore arms from fighting fish all day long!! Riverbend is a family owned resort and the owners and staff are so helpful and kind. If I could give a 6 stars I would! We went halibut fishing through Riverbend with Captain Todd and Mason and they both went out of their way to help us and make sure that we were having a good time. We caught our halibut limit that day! A few days later we had a fishing trip scheduled in Seward with Captain Don and Dave for ling cod, rockfish and yellow eye. There were some last minute changes and I went alone, I am a young female and I never felt uneasy or unsafe, I felt like I was in good hands.Dave helped to teach me how to use jiggs and I caught a trophy sized Ling Cod and the limit of rockfish and yellow eye! We also did a fly out and fished for Silver Salmon with Bill who was incredibly helpful and kind and we caught our limit! He showed us the waterfall, and we got to see 4 bears! I definitely recommend Riverbend, Dohn and John go out of their way to make sure guests are taken care of and that they have an enjoyable time. read more

Wow...where do I even start?! As a first time visitor to Alaska, I was torn to bits over where I wanted to go and stay. My main objective was to go fishing. The Kenai Peninsula is where we wanted to go based on how many fishing ports and rivers were located. This would give us the best shot at catching a wide variety of fish species. So we started looking around and pricing out this trip. We stumbled upon Kenai Riverbend Resort. We decided based on its price point, which was more than reasonable. There were other lodges and outfits that were at least $1,500 or more over the course of a week. So we booked KRR. Dohn promptly handled all of our information over the phone and explained to us about everything including applying the deposit. He got us prime dates and we were all set. Upon our arrival, we were pleasantly surprised on how warm and "homely" the Main Office was. It was like your living room rather than a check-in desk. Several employees were more than helpful checking us in. Here's the kicker, they just tossed us keys to the lodge and said "go settle in and relax". This was awesome. We had just drove 2 hours from Anchorage on very little rest and to hear this was quite nice. They told us "don't worry about the payment or paperwork". So we went to the Main Lodge and settled in our room. The room was super clean and was charming. The views throughout the cabin area are simply stunning. You had all the modern amenities, but you had nature at your finger tips just outside the front door! The Kenai River is literally 50 yards from the front deck!!! The rooms were equipped with black blinds to keep out the 20+ hours of sunlight. It didn't get dark until 12:30AM!!! The beds were comfortable and the private baths rival some of the best at all the hotels I've ever stayed in my lifetime. Continental Breakfast was served each morning starting @ 4:30AM. I believe it was Dohn's mother who took care of this and she did it to perfection every morning, making sure everything was readily available before we hit the water. There was a good selection of cereals and toast, along with Oatmeal. There were plenty of juices, milk, tea, and coffee to go around. The fishing was first class...and that's an entirely different story. The Fly-Out/Bear viewing trip (Talon Air Services) is a MUST if you come out here. Since we fished 6 days while there, very little time was set aside for exploration of the Kenai Peninsula. So how do we have time to explore the Kenai Peninsula??? It's simple. KRR schedules your fishing days to maximize satisfaction with respect to your time. Most fishing days, you're finished by 3-5pm. This gives you plenty of time to go around after and sight see or explore. Here's the beauty of it: KRR sends you to different towns because of the fishing. The bonus is that you can explore that town after fishing. Since KRR doesn't serve Dinner, you have the flexibility of going where ever you want for dinner. You essentially kill 2-3 birds with one stone. Alaska is breathtaking as it is. So with this type of schedule and the longer sun lit days, you're able to experience most of what the Kenai Peninsula has to offer. We visited all sorts of towns including; Portage, Seward, Kenai, Ninilchik, Soldotna, Homer, Anchor Point, Kasilof, and so on. As for the resort itself, please don't hesitate to inquire. This place is a fisherman's dream place. Dohn and the rest of his family are so welcoming. We felt like we were at home with our own families. They have all sorts of gear for you to use to fish down at the rivers edge. They encourage it and will happily take your catch to have it processed. The staff are super helpful and made sure you got to where you need to go. They had maps printed up and made wake up calls. They handled everything internally and set up our Fly Out service so all we had to do was "Show up". They also paired us with different people each day from all over the country, which made it fun to share stories and make new acquaintances. All of our fish were carefully filleted and vacuum sealed, frozen and then placed into special cooler boxes for the flight home. The fish are good for upwards of 30 hours! We took care of everything financially at the end, which was seamless. I cannot get over how smooth they made it for my uncle and I on our first trip to Alaska. These guys know what they're doing here. Please do not overlook them! We'll definitely be returning, but with more people this time though! read more

This was my first year at Kenai Riverbend Resort. We just got back on monday, and I had an absolutely fabulous time. I was never a fisher person, but I am now. My husband calls me 'fisher queen' now. If we didn't get our limit on the river then I was back out at the shoreline catching Silvers (big ole salmon). (BTW I caught 2 from the shore and our travel partners caught 3 from the shore). The kicker is that the shoreline of Kenai river was approx 75 feet from my cabin, and the resort provides the bait and fishing poles. Alot of the fun was had with the other residents of the resort, we talked fish (alot of the time) and also got to know each other on a personal level, cuz we were always fishing! It was such great fun. The staff at the resort were most awesome also, friendly, professional and accommodating. Our housekeeper, Tracy and her 2 dogs, Sidney and , o darn it starts with an M, I want to say Mason, but anyway, Tracy was very sweet cleaned our cabin, washed our dishes for us while we were out fishing, then she would be around in the evening to visit with, and see how our day went. Very nice. The staff in the office were equally accommodating and lovely. Alot of the folks staying at the resort were repeat customers,( some 10 years others 8 and 15 year repeat customers) and I can see why. You tell the staff what you want to do, and they make all of the arrangements for your fishing tours. (I think they make arrangements for hunting tours too) We also went out on the ocean for halibut fishing, and did a fly-out for more salmon fishing.( fly out was on a hydroplane? or water plane) OMG, what fun we had. There is one special fish guide named Kyle who was an absolute sweetheart, and his cute dog (I think a schnauzer) named Meadow accompanied us on our fish day on the river. The other really great thing is that they offer services on site for cleaning, packing and freezing fish for your plane ride home. One other great thing is that it is not a huge resort but small and intimate, with beautiful log cabins and with Heat! cuz it was kinda cold in Alaska. I can't wait to go back. I miss all of the folks and staff. It was just so family-like and comfortable. I don't know if they will see my review or not, but if you all do... thanks so much for a wonderful vacation!
