This is Seward, Alaska!…read more Although it was mostly rainy for the 3 nights and 4 days I was here visiting back in the month of June, I did not let that deter me from getting out, seeing and doing the sights. Seward is home to amazing Kenai Fjords National Park. Here are 3 activities/tours I highly suggest partaking in while here in Seward.... 1. Explore the Exit Glacier area. Exit Glacier is a real accessible landmark to discover. It's located off Exit 3 of Seward Highway. After making the turn...drive 8 miles and you'll arrive at Exit Glacier. Now...you can walk to "The Toe" of Exit Glacier which I recommend and also, I believe it's imperative to hike the rugged, though strenuous 8-mile roundtrip path called the Harding Icefield Trail. You'll be afforded wonderful views of Exit Glacier and the snowcapped mountains of Kenai Fjords from high above! 2. Do an all-day boat cruise out on the waters of Kenai Fjords. I did an 8.5-hour excursion with Major Marine Tours. Along the journey I witnessed tons of sea life. I also got an up-close perspective of incredible Northwestern Fjord Glacier and Cataract Cove, with epic waterfalls sliding off cliff faced walls. These two spots along my boat tour were the star attractions and some of the most memorable stops along my entire Alaskan vacation! 3. Simply explore the terrific harbor coast town of Seward. Here Seward is located right on the banks and waters of Kenai Fjords. Just walking around and appreciating the overall setting with massive mountains surrounding my every sight was so beautiful to see. My only problem was once again...grrr, the unfortunate rain! :( Also...Seward is obviously a wonderful seafood destination. Don't forget to try some of the cozy/charming restaurants that are emblematic of the type of cuisine you can expect from a waterfront place such as this. Also, you can purchase souvenirs in the downtown area and capture memorable photos along the pedestrian walkway section. In total, Seward, Alaska and Kenai Fjords National Park are necessary Must-Do's when visiting glorious Alaska!

Anyway, the town itself doesn't have much, including food, and I wouldn't spend more than 2 days unless you p,an to hike--I hear there are some great hikes of varying lengths, including e marathon hike and an intertidal hike. The food situation seemed pretty dismal to me. You won't starve, but I wouldn't go back for the grub, and if I did go back I think I'd seriously consider bringing a cooler of pb&j for at least some meals. Anyway, this is the launching point for wildlife tours of the kenai fjords and its glaciers, as well as a 20-minute or so drive to Exit Glacier, to which you can hike up (about 1.5 miles from the parking lot). The hotels seemed exorbitantly priced to me, and. Wished I'd researched camping, as there's a nice site right by the water about 3 blocks off of main street. Main street is 4th ave. and the whole town is less than 2 miles long, I'd say, with bustling sections at either end, downtown and the harbor.

Talked to neighboring ice climbing charter and they said they were running the trip all week and that weather was not a factor, so I know it couldn't have been that. By the time we were told we've been cancelled, it was too late to book anywhere else. Extremely frustrating as this was the highlight of our trip and very disappointed.

The last trip the owner took us and it was a grande ole time as he took us through a canyon, forest, and over a mountainside. I think it was one of the last of the season so he went all out. All the horses are well maintained, groomed, and have a somewhat even temperament as long as you don't get them too close to each other. We have also stayed overnight in the cabins which was a great treat. We used the barbecue, the kitchen, and all the amenities for a really great deal. Jordan and Matt, along with Elliot helping out, gave us a great afternoon of sledding and playing with the dogs. Everyone was so friendly and answered any questions we had. We chose Turning Heads because the dog lovers in our group could meet the pull team and also had time to play with the puppies. Our group included all ages (15-80) and we were concerned about those who have limited mobility getting on the sled, but it was not a problem. Everyone in the group said their experience at Turning Heads was five stars and they would highly recommend!

Flying with Pilot Joey was a customized experience, and as he flies much lower than the Denali flight, you actually see WAY more wildlife and scenery. We told him we hadn't really seen bears yet, and he was like, oh I know right where they are and flew us over them (one was swimming!). He was warm, friendly, and very thorough. We felt extremely safe with him and he was so knowledgeable about the area. He also played great music through our headphones that added to the experience. :) We booked the Holgate Glacier Landing tour and we enjoyed an hour and half + of INSANE scenery--waterfalls, fjords, seals floating on ice, bears, multiple glaciers, and finally, a landing on the Harding Ice Field. It felt like we were in a different planet--it was so peaceful and quiet. In fact, he is the only pilot that brings people to land on this part of the ice field, so it felt especially once in a lifetime experience. Joey didn't make us feel rushed or like he was counting the minutes of our tour--instead, we had a great time chatting with him and letting him take us on a personalized amazing tour of some of the most epic Alaskan scenery. We heard others also saying this is a better experience than Denali (you go up so high so quickly, with the bulk of the flight bringing you so far away from views). We had a flight booked for Denali, but it was cancelled and they recommended AA Seward Air Tours to us, and we're so happy they did (and now we're happy our Denali flight was cancelled!). It was very easy to find his office (5-10 mins outside Seward), plenty of parking, the sweetest office dog, and the friendliest office assistant who was genuinely so happy for us to have this experience. 10/10. Book it and GO!

I enjoy learning by trial and error. Argh! I have never hooked and lost so many fish. Then John put me on the fish and taught me how to land them. He actually guided me right to the fish. "Take one small step towards me" "Let out one foot of line" BOOM! Fish on! Not once or twice but three times! As mentioned this was PRICELESS! Baby eagles, black bear, big rainbows, Dolly Varden and Sockeye salmon. What a treat! What a trip! Thank you John and Heather. What a team! Best guided fishing trip ever. Absolutely amazing…read more I wish I was a better writer, so I could really get a picture in your head of how beautiful the countryside is that you pass in the comfort of your deluxe train car. It is a 2 story train car with fine dining located on the first floor. The ceiling, is a glass dome ceiling. YOU SEE EVERYTHING! Dinner was fabulous. Do not mistake it for train food. This was a culinary experience. My husband and I had a pasta w/ reindeer sausage, and my brother had the best prime rib he ever had in his life. This upset my mother quite a lot, since she used to hold that title. Wilderness Express is not available to everyone. It is a Royal Caribbean & Celebrity Cruise Line exclusive thing. So if you want to experience it, it must be part of your overall cruise tour package. Just another thing to consider when choosing which cruise line to go with for your Alaska vacation.

This was part of NCL's land and sea cruise package. After flying economy, and riding on a coach…read morebus, this was the most comfortable, spacious part of the tour. Very comfortable, plenty of room. The meals were nice, if you sit at the back of the car you get to go down and eat first. The bar tender was spot on. The tour guide that comes with the car pointed out some very interesting things along the way. There was a point, when dealing with the frost heaving, that the car moved pretty good, once we got past that is settled down for a very nice ride. The scenery was awesome!!!!!! To be able to ride through the country, wilderness and see all Alaska has to offer was a real treat. We even passed the flag stop train and were given the low down on how it operates and on some of the residents that use the flag stop train. To me the train part of the tour was the best part. If you do a cruise you REALLY need to make this a part of your trip
