We went out with Isaac. He was friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful scenery!! My suggestion is to wear warm clothing and thick socks. They will provide you a rain coat, waterproof proof bibs, and rain boots. I would add a beanie as well as there are some areas on the river that are breezier than others. Bring your boots as you will hike out 2 miles after. Those will be in the dry bag for you to change into. Overall great trip!! Highly recommend!! read more

We got duped on a field trip by these guys claiming to have been the tour company we went with in the past. Promised a stop for the kids to eat on the river when we arrived they told us they never do that. We were told bringing bags on board wouldn't be an issue, but then we were told they didn't want them on board when we arrived. Just to clarify neither of our two boats was even close to capacity, just seemed like they didn't want to deal with it. Lack of organization when getting us ready for the rafting trip. We had a handful of 6th/7th graders who aren't familiar with rafting, no real talk about water safety. an overall disappointment and a waste. Just not a good experience for us or the kids on the trip and I'm really ashamed to put one star, but this company isn't even made of locals its transplants from out of state. Without question, the best rafting and fishing team on the Kenai. Extremely knowledgable team, down to earth and very customer focused. I did a day long scenic trip and a day long fishing trip. I learned to fly fish for trout and salmon and caught my first of each fish. Alaska River Adventures also organized my lodging, booked a fjord cruise, provided transfers to/from Anchorage as well as processing and shipping my fish. Don't hesitate for 1 second to book your trip through Alaska River Adventures. I booked them for 2 separate float tours down the Kenai River, first led by Ryan and the second led by Tyler. From the moment I made my first inquiry call to this company, I was impressed by how much they go out of their way for customer service. It was apparent in how quickly I got responses from Jeremy and others. The float tour was amazing, relaxing and peaceful. Ryan took us out on a gorgeous day though it was cold and slightly overcast. He was very knowledgeable and pointed out all the eagles and merganser ducks and dall sheep that we saw along the way. No bears or moose sadly. He was very respectful and friendly. The river itself is just gorgeous from Cooper Landing down to Jim's landing--emerald waters that are that way due to the glacial silt at the bottom of the river. That, plus staring at the tall mountains around you as you glide down the river makes you feel humbled and in awe of the beauty and power all around. We went the first weekend of October so it was good that we were told to wear layers as on the river it is about 10-15 degrees colder. Two layers of socks and having your head, ears and fingers covered was important. The company will gear you up in major rain gear--rubber boots if you don't have them, chest waders, rain jacket and life vest. When I called to book the 2nd tour and asked about some options to add in a hike to the half-day tour, they said they'd gladly do that and customize it for us to Russian River Falls. Though we weren't able to take them up on that, it was really nice that they went out of their way to make it happen for us. Also, what I love about this company is that they went with however many people booked the trip--if it was just 2 or 3 of us, they would have run anyway. Awesome company and friendly folks to explore the beautiful Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. I can't wait to come back and do the full day float tour and make it all the way out to Skilak Lake in nicer weather. read more

My wife and I were the only people to have booked a trip at that time, so we got a private boat and guide. Awesome! Huge props to the owner for running the trip with only two customers. Our guide was informative and professional and we had one of the best evenings of our entire trip to Alaska out on the Kenai. Highly recommended. read more

However, George claims he offered me a refund. Sorry George. That is absolutely a false statement. You never did that. I am not going to call you a liar in public though. You may have some cerebrovascular or medication issues that need working out. If so, please seek help soon. I am worried about you. We had a great experience doing the half day scenic rafting trip. Chris was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable and passionate about the area. And had a great sense of humor. We saw just about every animal we could've seen including a very large brown bear fishing for salmon. A rare treat!! We definitely recommend this company. read more

George and his guides provide the very best fishing and guiding experience in the area, and hundreds of adventurous souls use George's services annually. By all means, don't let one stinky review by an obviously misguided individual blemish this business' rating. Personally, I have had experience fishing with numerous guide companies over the years, and, over that time, I have learned a bit about matching your expectations with actual fishing conditions. George runs a great business, employs the best guides (who, by the way, readily admit the company's focus is on the client), and will tailor an experience for the client. He and his guides know the fishing conditions -- when and where and how to fish those conditions. When there's a mix of clients in a boat, sometimes there's a conflict on expectations of one person vs. the others, and I've seen George go way out of his way to meet the needs of any given trip. Personally, in the fall of 2011, he saw to it that our guided trip was really "complete". I can't remember exactly what the unique conditions were, but I think it had to do with certain high water areas and the weather, but George provided us with a second haul-out and re-drift of a particularly great section of the Kenai. He had left the office, driven down to the take-out, hauled out the boat, and then drove back up-river to enable us to re-fish that section of the river. Not requested nor expected by myself nor my friend. His guide had made a cell phone call to arrange it. That's what I call service! I'm certain that this was unusual, and may not be repeated, but to think he'd actually go out of his way to accommodate us (at his expense -- both in time and money) is an indication of his dedication to his clients. We had numerous days of unbelievable fishing -- hooking and landing dozens of quality rainbows and dolly vardens. I've fished with many a guide service, and, at least in my experience with Alaska River Adventures, they don't get better than George's operation. I haven't been approached to make this review, nor do I have anything whatsoever to do with his operation. I just prefer his service and staff, to any other that I've experienced in the area. read more

Knowledgeable, easy-going, humorous, good company, respectful... are just a few words to describe the awesomeness that is Lucas! You can stop looking for any other company to take you out on the river, Alaska River Adventures is the best! You never know what your getting when you're visiting from out of town but know you will be in good hands here. Ty was super helpful in getting everything set up for us, friendly, and even checked in with us to see if we had a great time after our trip. With over 30 years in buisness you can tell they have worked out all the logistics so all you have to do is enjoy your adventure. Our family of 6 people took the full day scenic float about a 7 hour trip. It was well worth it, it's definitely a great way to see a different side of the river and all of it's beauty. Austin was our guide, I'm pretty sure he's never met a stranger, he was awesome. He is full of information about the river, wildlife, surrounding areas, and always let us know what was happening next. Not only was he super knowledgeable about the area but definitely made our trip down the river so much more fun. He's hilarious, kind, remembered our names, made sure we were all having a good time, and answered all of our touristy questions which I'm sure he's been asked a hundred times. We had a great 3-hour rafting trip down the Kenai River. Our guide was a young man named Jessie, and he was excellent. He was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. He talked enough to point out the sites such as the eagles and nests in the trees, Dall sheep on the mountainside, and how areas of the river got their names, but he didn't overdo it by keeping up a constant chatter. He let us enjoy the peace and beauty of the river. And he was always keeping a keen eye on the river to make sure to turn or paddle when needed to provide us the safest journey. We did see one bear, and he maneuvered the raft around so we could get the greatest benefit of viewing while the current took us on down the river. I don't know what it's like with other guides, but Jessie was truly a professional. read more

Booked an evening (6-9) river float trip with Alaska River Adventures on 7/19/13, our last day of a 15 day vaca in AK. This was a clam float, very little rapids. Jesse, (Zack Brown look-alike), was our guide and he was great! He was able to answer all our questions about flora and fauna and shared some interesting tidbits about the lay of the land. We were fortunate enough to see several eagles, lots of other water fowl and THREE, yes, THREE brown bear. This float was one of the highlights of our trip. We flew back to Tucson the following day still talking about that evening float. Don't miss this trip. Book it! read more
