Sure you live in Minneapolis so it's tempting to lean into being a hipster by taking your car with a transmission problem to a shop with cats in the lobby. But taking a car with a transmission problem to another local shop is like going to a proctologist for a sore throat. Based on the outstanding reviews and the recommendation of a local full service gas station nearby, I guided my poor car APRIL 20, 2017 as the transmission and gears started dying. The staff were gracious super outgoing and wonderful. They called me the next day and told me," for $600 they would be able to continue taking my car apart and provide me with a definite estimate for rebuilding the transmission... gears 1, 2 and 4 plus reverse were shot.... to provide an accurate estimate requires significant work / many parts must be removed which is costly and time consuming , esp if authorization to proceed is not obtained." This $600 would be non refundable if I did not contract with them. If I did, then it would be applied to the final cost. This is the 3rd transmission in 21 years , 240,000 miles and top quality repair ( no body rust). They refused to give me any range of price. I later called top quality service stations in that neighborhood and they told me Kennedy's price is usually $3000. Never have I had an auto repair company in 4 states over 40 years require such a non refundable deposit just for an estimate. I was also told the original owner is no longer working. read more

So glad we decided to go to Kennedy for a diagnostic on our truck. My husband was going to put a new transmission in our truck but we figured we'd get a professional opinion first. The guys at Kennedy quickly diagnosed and fixed our problem, saving us a bunch of money and saving my husband from a day long job. Awesome customer service. Very reasonable price. Brought my truck in to have the transmission and brakes looked at. Spent over 500$ dollars and I don't know that they did anything. Said they fixed the antilock brakes and when I picked it up the problem persisted. Brought it back in and they wanted 350 more to re fix the problem. Not sure they fixed anything with the transmission or what they did do was necessary. Will never return to this place. Seemed like nice enough people just incompetent. read more

They haven't even fixed my vehicle yet and i'm driven to comment on the great service these guys put forward. I was distraught already when i first called, described my situation and Matt took the time to fill me in on my vehicle's make and model typical issues and potential resolutions for my transmission. I felt as the most important customer he had. This was reinforced when Mark again provided support when the towing co screwed my car delivery to them, they kept me informed to let me know if and when it arrived (over a week ordeal) but that's another story. So I had my transmission rebuilt here 2 months ago and was very happy. Today I scheduled an appointment their website for Monday because my car is making a funny noise. I did not think it was related to the transmission but wanted Matt to look at it because they did such a good job. 15 minutes later I got a call from Matt even though they are closed (Saturday). Matt told me to bring the car right down and he would look at it to make sure it was not a big deal. I said I did not want to bother him on his day off but he insisted that he had people there doing catchup work and they want to make sure their work was not the issue. He was more concerned than I was! I brought the car in and they quickly found an exhaust shield loose on the engine. They showed me, tightened it up and sent me on my way at no charge even though it had nothing to do with the work they did! Matt and the other owner are so nice and caring. Great shop! read more

Always great and friendly service from this shop. Fixed my muffler and tailpipe for a competitive price and my car has been reliable since. Parking can be hard because of the smaller lot. I've been to Kennedy twice with 2 different vehicles. The first time, I had my transmission line fixed for $800+ and was very satisfied. The second time, I spent $800+ and was no where near impressed. They needed to take my transmission out to see what was wrong so I had them do that (after it sitting in their lot for 3 weeks) After telling me what was wrong and me deciding I can't afford it at the time, I asked them to put the broken transmission back in and be done. THEY DON'T PUT THE TRANSMISSION BACK IN. They never told me that they can't put it back in or I would have never taken it out in the first place. Kennedy has nice employees but I sincerely felt used for my money and lack of knowledge about cars. I do not plan on taking any future vehicles here! (My car was in their possession for over a month!) read more
