Our 2018 Honda CRV experienced a confluence of electrical issue-rear wheel tire sensor set off a bunch of additional sensors, including the high beams. I had a difficult time getting anyone on the phone, but within 10 minutes of walking in, Raks had a tech check my car and then planned to have me check in a day or two later to see if he would squeeze my car in the schedule. Again, I could not reach anyone in the shop when I called, so Raks gave me his cell number. They fixed our car quickly and accurately. Once again, Rakx Tuan proved that he is not only the best car repair shop owner but also just a great human being. I wasn't going to be able to come get the oil and filter changed before a trip, so he just snuck me in between customers. But then, when I got there, I had forgotten my phone. It would be a couple hours of sitting there, and no other customer was willing to call me an Uber for double the cost. I'm an old lady who wears a mask because I also have an immune deficiency, so being in the room with strangers was risky. Rakx didn't know this, but he overheard me asking to use a phone and told me he would get to my car right away. My friend recommended me this place and I was pleasantly surprised that this repair shop is close from home too. You can either walk in or make an appointment. In my case, I called ahead. I needed some very basic fixes needed to be done and I had my car back in 2 hours. I am very satisfied how straightforward the service was and also how fast it was. It is a very simple but reliable shop. It doesn't have a fancy waiting area or anything (I won't recommend sitting on the chairs if you're wearing white, it is quite dirty. I learned my lesson) but the work they do is good. I'd much prefer to get a good reliable mechanic that is also slightly budget friendly than paying for a fancy waiting area with coffee at the dealer. I saved about 200 dollars for the same service compared with the price quote given by the dealer. I am happy with the result and I'd definitely recommend this place. read more

I've been going to Tuans for at least a decade after initially hearing about them via word of mouth- from my frugal father who likes supporting small businesses. This place is truly a needle in a haystack- never once did I feel taken advantage of. In fact many times I left feeling guilty that I had been undercharged. Bottom line- they stand behind their service / warranties, have integrity and are incredibly hard working wonderful people. Can you pay my bills, Can you pay my telephone bills, Can you pay my automo'bills, If you did then maybe we could chill... I don't think you do... Buuut Tuan and me are cool. You're triflin', good for nothin' maintenance light. Oh silly me, why haven't I set you right. A baller, when times get hard I'm the one to ignore it. Instead of just takin' the car into Tuan to get it fixed. (Was that as good as I thought it was in my head? Or are you embarrassed for me?) Destiny's Child aside, I totally trust Raks with my machinery. I do not trust any mechanic more. On Tuesday morning, I finally went there to deal with my good for nothin' maintenance light. It was pouring rain (like cats upon dogs upon cats) and I was on my way to the airport. Wish I could remember his name, but another gentleman just dropped everything, went out there in the rain, ran some diagnostics, turned off the light, checked under the hood and ran back inside. "Everything's fine," he says. "That light just comes on after you hit a certain mileage. You're good to go." He didn't ask for payment---nothing for his time outside in the downpour. I even called back again to make sure I hadn't run out of there without paying my automo'bills and he said, "Nope, it's no charge." I sent them a thank you note. My dad also took my car here this winter while I was out of town and he was so happy with it that he started bringing his car here too (and sending his own thank you notes). My car's first visit, I didn't deal with the mechanics directly, but I was very happy with the work they did. I paid good ol' Dad back, of course--and the prices were great. So I'm going to share two specific incidents with this place and how awesome it is. I've been coming here for years and I'm always super happy with the service and pricing but it is these two incidents that have solidified it for me. 1) Wifey backs up on a slight decline at work and ends up bending the muffler and it's rattling. All those chain muffler brand places were at least $100 to fix with one place even saying the entire system had to be replaced. Cost? Over $900. Here, we get the call and Tuan (he was still working then) didn't even want the money, he says 'You pay him. $15. He hang from it. Bend it back. Fixed." 2) My pops is from Germany. Heavy accent. Tuan, from Laos. Heavy accent. These two couldn't understand a damn thing they were saying to each other but they would do that uncomfortable laugh, smile, and nod their heads. My pops was having some tranny issues and would always take it to the dealer. He was fretting about the estimate he got and I said dad, let me take you to my guy and we'll go hang out. In the end, I made him buy me lunch, saved him over $1,500 and he became a repeat customer. Tuan's son Rax (sp?) learned the business from his dad and is still providing that honest, quality service. A while back I had needed a repair on my vehicle and researched places to take it. I found Tuan Auto Repair on Yelp and the reviews are amazing. I attempted three times to get an appointment and met with no success so I ended up going elsewhere. Then a few months ago I needed work done on my brakes and decided to give Tuan another try. This time I was successful and took my vehicle in. They repaired my brakes quickly and the price was I felt amazing. I feel it was thoroughly worth the wait. I had lived close enough to Tuan to consider it convenient, but now I am living in one of the far suburbs. Was having a fuel pump problem. Working intermittently. They wouldn't replace it unless it stopped working. I had the vehicle towed in and dropped off. They started and shut down the vehicle numerous times throughout the day but could not get it to have a fault. They relayed this information to me over a phone call and then when I arrived to pick up, expecting at least a charge for time involved, they refused to take any money. I don't think this place can be beat - I've only been there a few times, but have had just terrific experiences so far. Sometime about a year ago, my car needed an oil change, and I also needed a front headlight bulb changed (mine are really tricky to replace on my own). While most places were quoting $40+ to change the headlight bulb in addition to the cost of an oil change, Raks offered to change the headlight for free with the oil change....just awesome. I also recently needed my front brakes (pads and rotors) replaced, and was quoted at $450+ at a local repair shop. Tuan's did it for me in about 1 hour for $230. This is a great place - the one potential downside of this is that this place books up very quickly....don't expect to call and be able to get in the next day. In my limited experience, they are often booked 1-2 weeks out. I've never had an "urgent" issue, so I'm not sure if they would be willing to accommodate someone in an emergency, but typically you are going to have to wait several days, perhaps over a week, before you are able to get your car in for repair. That said, if you are able to wait, it's totally worth it. read more

For instance, if there is a leak, they tell me how bad the leak is on a scale of 1 to 10 to indicate how urgent the fix is. I've taken my car here a few times now, and every time I've had an exceptionally good experience. They do price quotes, will work with you on a budget (they also beat out other quotes without me even bringing them up. Obliterating them oftentimes) , and took care of my insurance for me after my catalytic converter was stolen. Oh, and they won't try to up sell you on anything either. Rush hour, middle of the crazy busy Snelling/Concordia intersection, my car comes to a dead stop with a loud, metallic clunk. Scary. Thought for sure I was going to get hit. Got towed to Tuans and I was thinking it was going to be some horrific transmission overhaul...taking every penny we've saved over the last year for our family vacation. Nope, they figured it out right away, ordered this axel/rod part thingy, and zippy quick it was done. Because I don't know cars, and I'm a woman, I never feel confident getting stuff fixed. I'll start by saying "honest business". Car started humming towards the front wheels. Took it into two places near my place for an estimate and both wanted to charge between $400-450 saying that one or both wheel bearings need to be replaced (one or both? not sure??). I did some yelping and found these guys. $260 dollar later, I had a tuneup, determined that only one wheel bearing needed replaced, and they replaced my spark plugs...with a 1 year parts and labor. Moral of the story is that every 5/5 start review is true. Cheap, good quality service, horrible people skills. I've been here once, 6 months ago. A colleague recommended them when I was having a steering issue. Other places quoted me hundreds to thousands of dollars to diagnose and fix it. Tuan didn't charge me because all I needed was fluid. The person wasn't rude or nice when I went in, just to the point and got it done. Fast forward to today. I need an oil change. I called to schedule one, the person put me on hold. A couple of seconds in, someone came on and said something very quickly. I couldn't understand them. I said hello a few times. Nothing. After a few more minutes of holding, a person answered again and said "yeah." It was so quick I couldn't hear them. I said hello again and the person, very impatiently said, "YES HELLO!?" as if I was annoying them or something. I hung up. Since moving here, I've come to him twice and he's never tried to push an additional fix on my admittedly derelict car or charged me outrageous labor. Today I brought him my most recent used car purchase and bluntly told him to tell me if there was anything he found in addition to what I had diagnosed. These guys have rescued me in both rain and snow. If I sound concerned when they name the price of the repair they find a way to make it cheaper. A couple of friends were buying a used car and I sent them to Tuan's to have it checked out. They had never been there before. The mechanics looked the car over, and not only would not charge them for the check up, but refused to take the cash my friend tried to hand them. Yesterday was a Sunday. I left them a message saying my car had broken down and I was planning to have it towed in on Monday. Raks texted me several tricks to try to get it running again, and when they didn't work he called me to see how I was doing. They honestly seem more like family than mechanics. They never talk down to you, never overcharge you, and always go above and beyond. I have gotten quotes from other mechanics, than taken my car to Tuan and been charged hundreds of dollars less than the other estimate. I highly doubt my 92 Honda Civic would still be running if not for these guys. I can't recommend them enough. read more

Tuan Auto is a rare find. They seem to actually interested in helping people with their car problems rather than getting rich. My car had an issue where it would briefly stall while driving and then eventually got to the point it wouldn't start at all. I had brought my car to a different place off of Energy Park drive for the same issue and at this time I felt the issue with my car may be the battery or battery cables so I told the guy that along with overall the symptoms of the issue. A day later, I went to pick up my car. The guy working at the desk said everything looked good but yet didn't have any details about what they even checked. He did respond yes to some questions about specific things they checked, but it was sort of suspicious. I was then charged 100 dollars for labor even though nothing was found. So, I searched online for auto shops in Saint Paul and came across Tuan's. Since my car was stalled, they gave me a number of a guy named Jerry who had reasonable rates and got my car out of a tough spot. I was originally told they may not be able to get my care in until the next day. They called me about an hour before close than that and let me know it was an issue with my battery cable. He told me what they did to find the issue and said he would charge me 20 dollars! The guy on the phone then mentiond they were also closing soon to which I responded I didn't know if I would make it in time. He said not to worry that I could come and pick the car up and that he would be around for a little while anyway. When I arrived, a man named Raks came to the front and then I handed him 20 dollars for fixing my issue. 10 dollars for parts, and 10 for labor. He then said to meet him on the side of the building where he pulled my car right up to me and told me to take care and I went on my way. My car has been fine since. I am shocked that I was charged 100 dollars at one other place who couldn't find the issue even when I asked them specifically to check my battery cables, and then Tuan's Auto charged 20 dollars for something they found themselves. Needless to say, I am a fan of this place and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a trustworthy and skilled mechanic! read more

Went to Tuan's after replacing serval components in my headlight assembly myself that had been not working after I got a crack and water in the assembly. Messed around with it a lot on my own and finally had enough so took it to Tuan's. The did a quick test and discovered that my fuse had blown for my headlights. They replaced both of them and my light work fine now. They didn't charge me anything every though there is supposed to be a minimum charge for any visit. Real honest mechanics.
