I finally got around to visiting Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area, and my only complaint is that I waited this long to go. What an absolute gem. This park is the perfect escape from the city, whether you're looking for a scenic hike, a place to bird watch, a picnic spot, or just somewhere to unwind outdoors. We enjoyed it so much that we came back two weekends in a row. Both visits consisted of finding a shady spot, throwing down a blanket, reading, and simply relaxing. It was exactly what we needed. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of open space, walking paths, mature trees, and peaceful water features. Everywhere you look there seems to be another picturesque view. On our second visit, we discovered the Hummingbird Garden, which ended up being one of the highlights of the park. The area is filled with feeders and absolutely buzzing with wildlife. We saw hummingbirds darting between flowers and feeders, along with bees, songbirds, lizards, and squirrels. Nature lovers will be in heaven. One word of advice: keep an eye on the ground while you're walking. There was so much wildlife activity that it was easy to spot lizards and even baby squirrels scurrying around underfoot. Parking was straightforward and cost $10 for the day, with discounted admission available for service members. Whether you're looking for a quiet afternoon in nature, a family outing, or a place to reconnect with the outdoors, Kenneth Hahn is well worth a visit. I'll definitely be back--probably sooner rather than later. read more

This park is large with multiple different sections. What's a bummer is they charge for parking in the lot now when before it used to be free on week days. There is a walking bridge that connects to Kenneth hanh to stoneview, which has free parking. Their upper section has a disc golf course. The lower section has picnic tables and the lakes. read more

Beautiful and spacious park in the city with a view to die for. The city looks very different with the Hollywood hills as its backdrop. Come check out the park which we got in for no charge. Walk to the top and enjoy the legendary view. Bring water and maybe a snack. read more

I've been coming to this park my entire life, it's one of the most beautiful parks we have in the inner city Los Angeles. I was shocked when I arrived and saw a huge sign that said daily vehicle entry fee of $8.99-10.00 and annual parking $90-$160. The park could use a bit of tlc but it was overall in good condition. The kids area was just a bit dated. But it was really clean and maintained well. read more

We had an hour to kill before going to the airport and stumbled upon this park. What a great find, it's huge, with lots to do. We spent most of our time at the Kenneth Hahn View Point. It was a loop that was a little hidden but awesome for dusk. Great views of the city. The bathrooms were also pretty clean for a public park. Lot of areas where families has parties and we're hanging out. So glad we stopped here for a quick nature scenic detour. Do be warned, it was packed on a Sunday and parking was tight. It also closes at 6 pm. read more

Kenneth Hahn State recreation center is a great place to spend some and not spend some money! There are different areas including a nice lake, some scenic viewpoints and a walking/hiking trail. There are lots of hills so be prepared for some exercise if you want to walk around. Overall its a great way to spend your day. read more

I've been going to this park since I was a child. I still remember all the Easter hunts and numerous birthday parties that have happened there. Such wonderful memories. After all these years, nothing has changed much. This park has a lower and upper level lot. The lower lot has a huge lake with pretty ducks, a Japanese garden, and playgrounds. Lots of tables and sitting area available if you just want to come and relax. They have hiking trails that lead up to the upper lot. The upper lot has a paved track if you want to get a walk or jog in. It's a pretty big track so be prepared. Overall this park is absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained. Typically if there's an issue it gets resolved quick. Please come enjoy our city park. Show it some love, like it deserves. read more

I wanted to visit the Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area for its scenic view of the city skyline. We went on a Saturday morning, and it cost $7 for a day pass. By the entrance is the lower area with plenty of space to park. We first walked around Gwen Moore Lake, which had a lot of waterfowl to see and take pictures of. The environment was peaceful and calming. People were here for to fish, walk their dogs, run, and gather for a barbecue. Then, we drove up to the upper part of the park where we walked to the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial grove. An obelisk stood commemorating Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. This area offers a magnificent view of the Downtown Los Angeles skyline. However, it was unfortunately too cloudy to get a good picture of the skyline. I'd definitely want to come back here when the weather is sunny to get clear views on camera. read more

This place is really nice, especially if you drive alllllll the way to the top. They have a wonderful hummingbird setup and the orioles love it too. I didn't have time to visit the water area but it looked nice too. Long walking paths, both paved and unpaved. There is a parking fee of $10 (as of 2026) which limits frequent visits, which is a bummer. read more

I was invited to Kenneth on Park for a community event, my first visit, and I left completely wowed. The entrance alone is stunning, and the park only gets better from there. While searching for my group, I ended up driving the full loop to the top; every turn revealed another postcard-worthy view. Inside, turtle-filled lakes, open fields, and manicured gardens make it feel like a hidden escape. Perfect spot for a date, a quiet lunch, or hosting your own gathering. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'll be the one doing the inviting. read more

Nice and relaxing area to visit for the day. They do slow Tabs as well., For the day with a vehicle it was $10. Lots of picnic tables, beautiful views, trails and even a guy with his fruit cart selling fruit cups. There are restrooms spread throughout the park and a workout outdoor activities obstacle. You could also bring your bike and do a few of the trails designed for bikes. Fishing is permitted given you have your fishing license and are interested in catching some catfish. The limit is pretty good. Sitting on their benches and just listening to the water an enjoying all of the beautiful sites and birds there was relaxing enough. read more

Great urban hike with a lot of variety... stairs (hundreds of them), views, trails, wildflowers, restrooms, and a small nature center. Great place to get a workout without driving too far. There are even food and drink trucks at the base of the hill. Parking is available on the street for free, or at the top for a fee. read more

Beautiful park with many areas to choose from! I've been here for various events and even a video shoot. The views are beautiful and includes plenty of nature. I haven't had issues with parking but it can get packed in the lot at the top of the hill. It's great of any activity, including walking of fitness. Will be back! read more

I visited this place for the very first time on Veterans Day 11/11/23. I was expecting to pay an entrance fee but it was free that day. Although I've never been, I already knew the top reason why people come here. It's the view of Los Angeles from Hollywood to downtown and beyond. It was very busy on the day of my visit. So many people were having picnics and barbecue parties. Many joggers and hikers as well. It's pretty clean and well maintained although some there are some areas with lawns and trees that are dry and dusty. Lots of parking spaces all over this place. Restrooms are surprisingly clean. Complete with soap, toilet paper and hand dryer that you'll never in other parks. read more

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area was full of life and beauty. I went with someone and spent the day walking trails, sitting by the lake, and watching families and teenagers enjoy the space. Teenagers were playing sports, taking pictures, and hanging out in groups. The atmosphere is something teens would love because it is lively but still peaceful with lots of open space. The service shows in how clean and organized the park is with well maintained paths and safe areas. The value is great because you can enjoy so much without spending money. The quality of the environment is high with beautiful views and plenty of places to relax. The selection of activities including sports areas, trails, lakes, and picnic spots gives teenagers many options. I have only been once but it felt memorable. Teenagers would love the variety, the social energy, and the nature views and I highly recommend it. read more

This location offers several smaller trails that can be combined into a larger loop, which is what we did. We parked on the street on one side of the park and made our way up and around, creating a full-circle route. You can customize your hike--make it short or long depending on your energy or time. We took on the bigger loop, and I'd rate it as an easy to moderate hike overall. There's only one steep incline, which comes near the end when you're heading from the information center back up toward the big park area - where you can play "frisbee golf". There's also a few official parking lot, one near the Blue Lagoon and Japanese Garden, with a fee of around $8-$10. Facilities (like restrooms) are mostly located near this area, so make sure to bring water, especially if you're hiking mid-day when it can get warm. Dogs are allowed on leash, just be aware there are limited water fountains once you're in the middle of the loop. Beautiful views of the city throughout most of the trail read more

We came here first Sunday hike and just to enjoy the outdoors. This has got to beckons of the nicest parks in LA. It has amazing hiking trails, beautiful flowing streams & waterfalls, and a lake for fishing. There are gorgeous view of the city scape, places to BBQ, and play area for kids. This is a great place to enjoy a day in the outdoors with plenty do to and enjoy! I'd be here every weekend if I lived closer! read more

One of my favorite parks in LA! It's such a spacious and beautiful park to picnic, walk, exercise, or just enjoy the day. There's a couple different parts to the park, but we drove halfway through and stopped at a large grass field to have a picnic. The place is maintained regularly and it's very clean with trash bins every couple of feet. It's also really nice to relax here during sunset. I was told if you go to the very top, you'll get a gorgeous view. I definitely intend on coming back and checking it out entirely. This place does close at 8PM though, so make sure you time it right. Overall, I highly recommend! There's so much space to park and there's a playground available as well. Gotta check this place out while it's still nice and sunny out! read more

visited kenneth hahn state park over the wknd the line to pay and get in was so backed up, the line was at the fwy off ramp this is a large park, it is beautiful tho! it is a bit confusing , esp when you are trying to find a party and the day i went, seemed like everyone there was there for a party there should be large identifying markers dividing the areas they only take cash, they should also have it available to purchase a pass online to make things go a bit smoother read more

Still my favorite park in LA. Lots of parking at the bottom of park. There is a lake, japanese garden, hiking trails, basketball court and kids playgrounds. Super clean and peaceful. Super big. I have been here for over 5 years and I have even tapped into so much other places at this park. I plan to explore more in the hills/trails. Definitely would recommend read more

I loooove any opportunity to come here. Started coming here because of WalkGood's outdoor yoga sessions on Sundays. They usually have yoga just past the Japanese garden. We had a birthday party here and it was beautiful. There are pavilions that you can reserve for parties, reunions, etc. but there are also free standing tables that are first come first served. We came at 8:30am to claim three tables for a 11am party. This is a beautiful park featuring a lake, ample parking, and many hiking trails. Parking is $7 cash and there are discounted rates for seniors and those with a disability placard. read more

Nice and clean park near Culver City.l with ample amount of space. It has a few playgrounds for the kids. Nice little pond to walk around, my kids rode their scooters while other kids were fishing. It's free during the week but in the weekend it's $7 at the entrance. The view up top is real nice. read more

My favorite place to enjoy. You could actually walk from any place and wind up someplace beautiful so many trails to choose from. I guess the popularity has made this Park want to charge money. I used to go all the time and it was free now they want to charge. I really don't get it. We had to pay dearly because of all the oil wells and now they want to charge us on top of that. read more

Such a beautiful place to hike/play/walk/exercise/picnic/meditate....this place is massive! I love walking the hill it's such an incline! The hiking trails are spacious enough for two way traffic. Love visiting the fruit vendor after a long hike! They are at the very top before the parking lot usually see them between times we've been there 11-1, I'm sure longer. I live in Bakersfield and needed to pick up my wife at LAX at noon. With traffic, it's far to difficult to time. Since I don't do well with long periods of sitting, I picked Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area as a stop for a good hike to break up the trip. It's only 20 minutes from the cell phone lot and it looked like there were some good trails. It said there was a day use fee, but no one was at the front kiosk. I stopped by the visitor center for a map, and no mention was made of a pass. The attendant said there was a good view and hiking trail at the Upper Bowl, so I headed for the top. It was a pleasant day. The trails are well marked and the views were very nice. In the bowl there is a Frisbee Golf Course. While I didn't have time to explore the lower area, there was a lake, campsites, and many other fun activities. On this weekend was a family camping event and a fishing tournament. It was a really nice break in my day. read more

Well. It was nice to drive thru here. I always pass by it driving to South LA. And now I took the next step of a car tour, because my dogs are too stir crazy lately to be trusted on or off leash in any grass expanse. Better than potentially running into traffic, sure, but I don't trust my dogs around strangers and I don't trust strangers around my dogs. So I will say, this is a beautiful grassy venue that has potential for every park activity: hiking, picnicking, photos, frisbee, even walking well mannered dogs that don't belong to me. In short, it is a park. And parking is free unless you come on the weekend apparently, which isn't indicated by the entry sign. read more

What a great place for photos! I don't often have the opportunity to come here, but when I do, I try to make an entire day of photographing downtown LA to West LA. There's a couple of overlook spots that are amazing in the morning because there's not as many people. Once you get to the weekends and later into the day, the overlook paths are slightly run amok with people, especially photographers. It's quite a walk from the main parking area, but worth the trek because of the gorgeous view of the mountains you get here. There's no shortage of things to see at the state park, such as birdwatching and people watching as well. I've been at this park from sunrise to sunset, and filled my day with exercise, fresh air and spur of the moment discussions. read more

Japanese festival was great and the workers at the parking line and at the gate were kind and informative... the event was very nice with a lot of authentic food and culture it was a nice day and we had perfect weather sooo all in all no complaints... food was a touch expensive but really that's the economy right now not anyone's fault except for the dork in the White House. read more

Wow, I never yelp any of my favorite parks until now. Another great icon park in Los Angeles to grow up as a kid and enjoy. I love the lake, and feeding the squirrels and geese. Although park officials would rather we didn't, so I have to respect that, and not feed the animals. Nice atmosphere to enjoy yourself with family, loved ones or friends. Thus is a good one to visit. read more

We love Kenneth Hanh...lots of places to walk and dog friendly! Sometimes we will park on the back side (Norman O Houston park) and walk in to bypass the parking fee... the pond is nice to walk around especially to view the wildlife (ducks, birds), and it's fun to see the oil pumpjacks as well as views of DTLA. read more

Went on a 3 mile hike today with my old girl : -)!! She kept up pretty well for her age (13, 14 in july) Overall the trail was clean, most dogs were on leash (which I loved because my girl isn't very fond of others), and park/field part of this walk was gorgeous!! read more

When Dodger Stadium is behind you and you face the mountain, start counterclockwise--trust me, you'll thank me. On the way back, you'll enjoy a gorgeous downtown view. At the top, there's a painted seating area where you can rest and soak it all in. A couple of things that could be better: It's a dirt/sand path, so wear shoes you don't mind getting dusty--unless you want to spend each day cleaning them. It's usually around 6,000 steps for me--though that varies--and roughly 400 calories burned (but don't quote me on that!). Overall, it's about a 45-minute hike/jog with ups and downs--just enough to get your heart going, and then you can treat yourself to a city-state after. Pretty good overall--highly recommend it!

I have never seen the movie, "(500) Days of Summer," but some people believe the striking view of downtown with the park bench in the foreground was shown in the movie. I can't vouch for that but that particular spot is gorgeous and perfect for a photo op. You'll know the spot when you see it. Worth checking out.

I'm completely confused and look at my watch, and say, "it's only 3 minutes after the start time." Then he says, "We were looking for you!" I said, "Well, you weren't looking very hard because here we all are checking in at the start of the tour." After he checks us in, I ask if we can sprint to catch up to the tour and he says yes. I lean into the doorway and see the rest of the tour - 4 other women right there. So half the tour was 3 minutes "late" and they decided to start, weird but moving on. The woman leading the tour was really quite lovely and I wasn't expecting the house to be so amazing since I was focused on the garden part but I really loved learning about the house and original inhabitants. We are asked several times if we want to join the meditation but I'm getting culty vibes and we keep politely declining. Once we are outside, we are asked again if we would like to join the meditation and now the gray haired man is with us again and I said, "No, we really just wanted to see the gardens." At this point he says, "Oh the gardens are closed." I'm completely confused again and said, "What? But that's why we came-- to see the gardens & labyrinth." He then says, "Oh! well the labyrinth is open but the gardens are closed." At this point I think they asked us to join the meditation again. I asked when they expected them to be opened and the response was June of this year, maybe because there have been a lot of delays. Again, weird, but okay we just want to walk the labyrinth. There were a couple of other women walking it and then our group of three joined too. I'm halfway thru it and I look up and see the gray haired man STARING at us - which included 3 preteens/teens in halter tops posing and taking pix - and I was so incredibly creeped out. I had no idea what to do, cross the labyrinth? ask him what he is staring at? I came to this place to ground and do something calming and now I have a man staring at me and other women but since everyone else was looking down or at their phone, they didn't notice so I didn't want to disrupt THEIR experience. Eventually he went away, to join the meditation I guess. We finished the labyrinth and left. It was only $6 but since it didn't mention the gardens were closed on the website or ticket, I am asking for a refund. Would I go again when the gardens are open? Yes. Would I recommend to others? Yes. Would I advise against it as a single woman? Also yes. I will update if they refund us or not.

Not just "oh it's a public park" bad, but genuinely shocking, like something that makes you stop and question how this is even allowed to stay open. I'm talking about conditions that feel neglected to the point where it's uncomfortable just being nearby, let alone going inside. I went into two different restrooms thinking maybe one was just unlucky... nope, both were equally disgusting. I'll be posting pictures because it honestly doesn't feel believable otherwise. It gives off this weird in-between vibe where you don't know if you're at a city park or some kind of neglected shelter space, and that's not something anyone should feel at a place like this. What really made it worse for me is walking into the recreation building with the basketball and volleyball courts and realizing it's the same story inside. Worn down, under-maintained, and just lacking any sense that the city is actually investing in it. Meanwhile, you literally have the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust right there being renovated and cared for, which just makes the contrast even more frustrating. How is that level of attention happening on one side, but the actual park people use daily feels ignored? It's honestly disappointing because this place has so much potential. The location alone should make it one of the best parks in LA, but instead it feels like it's being left behind. I hate to say it, but I probably won't be coming back. There are just too many other parks where you don't have to deal with this level of neglect.

We visited today and were lucky enough to catch a performance by the Taiko Project. Their performance honestly gave me chills! Love that they also talked about the history of taiko in Japan and US and they even had volunteers at the end of the show to try taiko drumming! There was also Kamishibai storytelling in the tea garden, which the kids really enjoyed. They also have Japanese Garden "I Spy" sheet for the kids to do and Clean Water Patrol activity book. This is def one of those low stress, high vibe activities that I highly recommend. Just a heads-up though, outside food and drinks aren't allowed inside, but water is ok. There are restrooms near the entrance as well as behind the tea garden. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids. We had such a relaxing afternoon and are already looking forward to coming back for more events at this little oasis.

What wasn't made clear is that the $10 only covers one hour. After getting inside, I learned you have to keep paying for every additional hour. For comparison: Castaic Splash Park 2 kids = $70 total Parent = free Adventure Lagoon (calculation based on 3 hours - though I chose this place to come for 4 hours since it was advertised as same price for all day) 2 kids admission = $70 Water park fees = $60 Parent admission = $35 Total = $165 So instead of spending the day at a beautiful lake surrounded by nature, we paid more than double to be at a small water park surrounded by warehouses. The website prominently advertises the day rate and has a big "BOOK NOW" button, but the hourly water park fees are not made clear upfront; you have to literally scroll below the pricing and "Book Now" to see them. My older son loved it so much that he is now becoming a Junior Leader, which says everything about how meaningful Cali Camp has been for him. My younger son joined not knowing anyone and felt welcomed almost immediately. Both of my boys felt included from day one. The staff is incredibly caring, supportive, and attentive. The activities are fantastic: well planned, age appropriate, engaging, and fun. The natural setting is also beautiful and feels especially important these days. My boys came home with confidence, stories, friendships, and summer memories they will cherish forever. And the camp spirit is real. We still sing the silly songs at home, especially the announcements song whenever we have a family announcement, and the birthday song too. I cannot recommend Cali Camp enough.
