This rating is based on a day use pass. Very quiet (I was here on a weekday), but there is no real designated area to swim. I took a quick dip near the boat launch just to cool off, and spent a very relaxing couple of hours under the shade of a large oak tree reading and looking at the clouds. Beautiful area, clean bathrooms. Site pads are not open to interpretation, so this needs to be spelled out for people upon check in, especially for tent placement. I had read reviews that mentioned this, thankfully, and did not place my tent in the wrong spot, as having to move your fully set up tent and its contents would be a nightmare. I have never encountered any problems with this at the many other state campgrounds we have been to. Would have been great if not for the creepy ranger that comes around 6+ hours after you get there, tracks you down at a neighboring site, and tries to lecture you on site pads. He was very condescending and sarcastic all the while with a smiling face. Even though we asked right away, what he needed us to move, he wanted us to let him finish his lecture on camping pads. Ugh. Then even after moving the offending piece of equipment, a screen room, he asked us what it was and if anyone would be sleeping in it. No duh. It's an empty 6x6 coleman screen room. You don't know what it is after years of working at the campground. Very disingenuous. Later in the evening, when we were walking back from the field for stargazing, he proceeded to stand still in the middle of the road blinding us with his flashlight until our friend asked him to lower his light so we could pass. He feigned ignorance. We all found it really odd that a ranger wouldn't know campground etiquette for these kind of things. Sounds silly but, encountering this man really did skew the peace and relaxation we usually enjoy camping. It was hard to shake off the bad energy. It's a nice campground but not if you have to encounter this person. I had read some comments about this person in other reviews, and disregarded it because we are very considerate, rule following campers. read more

I'm glad I read the reviews about the the Brian the ranger before camping on this site. It tells me more about the campers than it does about the ranger. I could totally see how someone like him can be annoying and creepy, but at the same time it really describes how inconsiderate, loud, entitled, and trashy the campers are. If they have a STFU rule after 9-10 pm, that means STFU!! No one wants to hear what you think is your inside voice, or laughter, or stupid hippie guitar playing. Some people want to camp and feel like they're out camping in the woods, not like they're on their deck having a few bears in surburbia. That's why people go camping to get away from the noise of other humans. I don't know how many times I read in these reviews about people creating their own fire pit, like how seriously stupid can you be? You're just renting a camp site, you're not buying property. respect nature! Everyone, the campers and the ranger all seem like aholes, and this is why I rather stealth camp than have to deal with the bs of humans. read more

My friends and I had such a lovely weekend at this campground. It's nestled in a beautiful forest, has sites that feel secluded, and has clean bathrooms. Check-in was easy and we were able to arrange nearby sites for our whole group. The other campers were friendly and respectful. The star gazing was top notch. There are plenty of great hikes and a swimming hole nearby. I also want to note that I am confused about the bad reviews about Ranger Brian. He was kind and funny and did not encroach, even though we were a bigger group playing music (at a very reasonable level). He was eager to get to know us and even offered to let us take his phone to use a constellation app when we went out to the field to stargaze. Well, we went again and what do you know...Park Ranger Brian is still harassing campers. Very unprofessional and truly feels like they just want to catch you having a conversation around the fire, so they can have a reason to say you're too loud. They keep claiming that any unruly camper or "loud" camper is coming from North South Lake, which I found odd? Truly an elitist approach to management and it's very unpleasant. This is a good place for first time campers. Campsites are pretty well laid out. Space for tents are flat and level. Each campsite comes with a fireplace and picnic table. We were in C 63 and it was reasonably close to the bathroom so that was convenient. Bathroom and shower facilities were clean and we felt safe because the campsite were regularly patrolled. They really do enforce order in the campsite. You have to take all your food and drink with you when you leave the campsite for a hike (prevent bears) and they're strict on the 10pm quiet time so no late night partying for us :( Overall, it was still a fun experience camping out, gazing at the stars, and just being outdoors. read more

Ticks. Ticks. Ticks. We went to the park yesterday two use the day use area by the lake and take the kids there to play. Within a few minutes I had a tick crawling up my leg. By the time we left which was only two hours after we got there because of how many ticks, I had pulled three off of myself. All but one person had at least one tick crawling on them, one of the kids had 2 ticks and most of the adults had multiple. Such a beautiful place, what a shame, it was shocking to be there such a short time and have so many ticks on us. It appears that nothing is being done about the ticks even though it's a health issue. New York State asleep at the switch again :-( read more

Went to this campground for a long 4th of July weekend and had a great time. The site was small but more than large enough for our tent and pop up shade. The bathrooms where clean enough and always had toilet paper. There was a pond and boating area which was nice. I caught seven sunnies within an hour of fishing. Unfortunately the bass fishing wasn't as good. There was also a great pond just down the road that I'm site was full of bass. The staff was friendly and the ranger (Brian) came to introduce himself to each site which was nice. The place is dog friendly and thankfully so was the ranger! Our chocolate lab had a great time frolicking in the stream on the nature trail! Heed their warnings of bears though. A young black bear waked right through the site next to us in our first morning. Luckily there weren't too many sites filled at the time. He basically minded his business and left but was not at all fazed by our presence. All in all it was a good trip. We hope to go back soon. read more

Just returned from a four day weekend and this place is outstanding. The grounds are beautifully kept and the bathroom and shower facilities are cleaned, like clockwork, twice daily. Although some of the sites are quite close together (5, 6, & 7 for example) they are for the most part level and tree coverage is thick. There are a few grassy, sunny sites too (75, for example) if that's your thing. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Four couples reserved sites 26, 27. 28 & 29. All great sites... close to bathroom facilities, but not too close. There is a dish washing station behind the garbage collection/recycling building which is quite handy when staying in a area with a large bear population. They strictly enforce the rules regarding food storage and if you leave food or trash unattended you will get a warning notice and possibly evicted. My husband and I stumbled across bear scat during a walk through the woods, so the storage of your food and toiletries is essential. Quiet time is also strictly enforced from 10PM to 7AM, which is great. I've been places where a a party at a neighboring site would go on until 2 or 3 in the morning. The only issue I had was that the grill on the fire pit was not conducive to cooking. The grill slats were very far apart. Luckily we had our portable grill grate with us to compensate. read more

So if your going camping then here is a fair assessment! Campsite 075 Overview: This campsite is a PERFECT, SIMPLE treat for all. If your looking for something with a pool, a beach, etc, then search for larger campgrounds. PROS Clean overall grounds. Great sites. Nice playground. Simple lake. CONS No real onsite general store - But marts are within a 15 min drive Cold showers on a couple of nights - But there was hot water as well. Nothing that stands out bad! A ranger came by and was very polite mentioning the quiet time was in effect. YES, it was after 10pm and yes, we were loud! HE was very polite. HE came by again the next day to warn us about leaving out food etc and YES, he was nice again and he was right as that same evening we were visited by a raccoon that insisted on eating anything we left out. Again, if your looking for something more grand then you should plan accordingly. But this campground was perfect! read more

We stayed on campsite #47 which was very nice because there are no campsites to the left or right of us. There were a few across the road, but far enough to have enough privacy. To the left of our site was the bathroom, which was about 50 feet. Some may find it too close for comfort, but we found it the perfect distance to walk without overly intruding our privacy. A water spout was just along the path to the bathroom which made things very manageable for our group. The land was mostly flat with an occassional root or rock, giving us ample room for our tents. The campsite consisted of a standard wooden picnic table and a cement firepit with a broken grilltop. Firewood can be purchased by a truck that drives around the campground between 6 pm - 7pm, so make sure you're at your campsite around that time. The grounds are kept fairly clean with the park staff driving around to constantly check the premises and cleaning the bathrooms several times a day. However, we found a few of them to be slightly unfriendly. Once when I had asked for directions at the booth by the front entrance for the nature trail directions, the gentleman was a bit aloof and mumbled the directions in an annoyed manner as if I were bothering him. The second encounter was when my friend had parked his car on our campsite in the morning (which we already had 2). Although 2 cars are allowed on each site, the ranger drove up and shouted "What is this!? A parking lot?! You're gonna have to purchase a day use ticket and move the car to the front." She also kept asking us if we checked in when we had the night before, and acted a bit annoyed towards us. I understand that state DEC parks have policies, but the ranger could have approached us in a more respectful manner. As for amenities, there is a day use area where you can rent a canoe to paddle in the decently sized upper pond, as well as horshoe throwing, soccer field, volleyball, and more. We also brought our mountain bikes and tried the MTB trail between campsites #72 and #73 and found it poorly maintained. After you get to the bottom of the hill, the multiple forks in the trail only lead to dead ends as downed trees and branches blocked the way. There is also a nature hike trail by the day use area (next to a wooden post and sign that says Beaver Pond) which we found much more enjoyable. If hiking and biking isn't your thing, you can drive 5-minutes to Esopus Creek where the locals hang out as well as a great place for tubing. To get there, take a left when exiting Kenneth L Wilson, and another left when you hit a confusing intersection. Drive along that road, and you'll see multiple signs for Esopus Creek where you can park just off the road. Since we had visited during a dry/hot season, Esopus Creek didn't have a lot of water flowing so we drove the 30-minutes to Belleayre Beach which is near Pine Hill / Belleayre Ski Resort. Show your campground parking voucher and you can get in for free, otherwise it is $8 / car. It's a beautiful man-made lake with smooth white sand and different levels of depth. read more

Would most likely go somewhere else. Not into fascism. The reserveamerica.com camping sites have been great for me in the past. This time around, not so much. (Good cop) I think the rangers at Kenneth Wilson tag larger groups and harass them based on size. When we arrived we were almost immediately greeted by the forest ranger at our site, who was pleasant, but his advice to move our cars approximately 10 feet over seemed unnecessary. (Bad cop) The next morning a rather unpleasant authoritarian informed us of the 2 tent rule per site. Rules are rules, yes, but 3 small tents on a site vs. the gigantic tent mansions on other sites was puzzling. We took our tent down during the day as instructed and weren't bothered again. The last night the same good cop came by just after 10 and told us to keep it down, as we were playing an acoustic guitar and talking. Keep in mind not one of us were drinking, so the conversation was pretty tame. The constant roving park vehicles made it feel like I was a guest on a prison compound, not a campground. PS, for real, no fire pit? What's with the concrete stove things? read more

My wife and I were really impressed with this campground. It is very well maintained and there are many new improvements. They have recently constructed a nice fishing pier and are working on another. There is a wheelchair-accessible trail from the day-use parking area down to the pier. The staff were very friendly and courteous. It's always disappointing to read negative reviews from jackalopes who think that state campgrounds are there solely for their partying pleasure. There are a few reviews here about how "strict" the rangers are at this site. If you're going to drink, party, and hoot and holler all night, please find a spot out in the middle of nowhere rather than trying to do so at a public campground and then whining and crying like a little princess when you get your feelings hurt by being told to shut yer yaps. Our second visit here was just as good as the first. This time we camped mid-week and pretty much had the campground to ourselves. I think there were only 10 other sites being used and just one in our loop. The campground rules state only 2 tents and 6 people per site, we had 6 people but 3 tents thus had to get a second site. We have been to other campgrounds that overlooked this rule during the week when it wasn't crowded, but I understand that rules are rules. If you have a dog, be sure that you have either a dated rabies tag or documents from your vet saying the shots are up to date. If you have neither of these things, make sure you at least have your vet's phone number as they will call to verify. If you want to save yourself $9 and you plan on camping during the week or off season, don't bother to make a reservation. If you're looking to go hiking in the area you have lots of options. We climbed Overlook Mt. just North of Woodstock (2.5 mi road up to a fire tower, abandoned hotel and amazing views) and Giant Ledge about 30 min away, it's a shorter, but steeper and rockier hike up to some amazing views. read more

We stayed here 4th of July weekend and really liked it. Campsites are big, level, and mostly shielded by trees from other sites. I read the negative staff comments, we had no complaints at all, but we're over 50 so maybe they didn't target us to be the loud partying type. It is near a road, but a sleepy country road so not much noise. The showers are a trek from most campsites. We did have a black bear run right through the adjacent campsite in the middle of the afternoon, he never stopped to notice us or our dog. read more

We camped for two nights on site 65, which was spacious and offered more privacy than we originally anticipated. The first night (Thurs) was quiet, with a majority of sites open. The second night (Fri) and morning were what you might expect of a weekend. The staff enforces the quiet hours, but 7:00AM is still early to be woken by loud families. If you want quiet, like most campgrounds, avoid the weekends. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms and showers were both clean and well kept. My family and friends shared a site here over Memorial Day weekend. From the moment we arrived we felt harassed by the rangers. They stopped by our site 3 times within hours of arriving. The ranger asked us to move the car as it was not parked in the correct area (which is not labeled) because the car was disturbing nature. If they didn't want nature disturbed the park should not be a campground. Later that night the ranger drove by at least every 1/2 hour. He stopped again at our site after 11pm on foot this time. He creepily stood in front of our site for a little while. Then he walked up and said that quiet hours were being observed and that he could hear us talking from 30 feet away. Yes I would image that when you stand in front of our site that you would be able to hear us talking. Really, we were not being loud and partying we were just sitting around a fire relaxing and TALKING. He told us to modulate our voices and that we needed to be courteous to those getting up at 6am. I didn't realize that once quiet hours began that we had to go to bed. MESSAGE RECEIVED! The playground area was nice and looked new but I was disappointed that there were no swings. There is no cell phone or internet services which is ok but if you plan on leaving the campground you should bring a local map of the surrounding area. There is no place to go swimming and when we asked a ranger if there were any local swimming holes he just said NO. There are rivers and lakes nearby so I was surprised he offered nothing. The shower situation was probably the worst thing of all. There is only one building with showers for the entire camp of 76 sites. A total of 8 showers, 4 for women and 4 for men. Actually one of the showers was not working in the women's room so there were only 3. The hot water heater broke in the men's room so they had to take cold showers. Hope you like lots of poison ivy and pinecones too! They are everywhere! We made the best out of what we had but I would not recommend this campground to anyone. We will not be back. read more

When I looked into Kenneth L Wilson Campground, I read they were strict about their rules but I didn't know how extreme that meant. I experienced their odd obsession with keeping their "rules" which even put us in danger. I hope my review helps you so you don't experience as what I did in the past weekend. First night, we arrived at 9 PM and purchased a parking permit for a 3rd car since they only allow 2 cars per site and we had three. While we unloaded, the 3rd car on our site, one of rangers came by to ask us to move the 3rd car, so we asked if we could move the car after unloading and setting up our tents and she said it's okay. But she came back again 15 minutes later and yelled at us while we were still trying to set up the tents in the darkness. There was no courtesy and we felt unwelcome, but we moved the car immediately anyway to respect their rules. Later, we wanted to burn some wood but there was no fire ring so we started picking up some small rocks from the ground to put them around the fire. Another ranger came by checking on us and told us "not to disturb the nature." Even though we didn't quiet understand how we "disturbed" the nature by picking rocks from the ground, we stopped anyway. Next day, 4 more people of our group joined us at the next site and we all went canoeing. When we came back to our site for lunch, we found a written warning notice saying we left food outside. We weren't aware of this rule but I found it disturbing that they searched our site and went through our stuff when no one was there. Later in the evening, one of the staff members named Brian approached us at 9:30 PM saying we were loud and he will watch us closely. We were all surprised because we were pretty quite, so we went around to our neighbors site asking if we were loud and if that bothered them. Everyone said they didn't even notice. So by this time we assumed we were marked as "the bad campers" among those rangers for some reason. I understand there are rules and policies to run the campground and we respect it, we also know our boundary- WE WEREN'T LOUD. I told Brian about the family with kids in our neighboring campsite making loud noises, how we woke up to their crying and children fighting every morning and he told us to "complain about those people too." What really upset me was when Brian came back saying we needed to move burning wood to their assigned spot. So we asked if we could wait for the fire to cool down so we could move it but he said we needed to do it now and he wouldn't leave until he saw the fire has being moved (by the way, I've never seen a campground who doesn't provide you a fire ring for bonfire). I asked how we could move wood when it's still flaming, he said "you need to figure it out somehow." Then we asked if they had some equipments to put out the fire because we all were very afraid that we might get burned. He said "there should be some way to do it without getting hurt." His guidance was very unclear and uninformative but he still forced us to do something which could have caused us very serious danger. Ironically, as someone who's in the position to look out for people's safety, he put us in danger in order to keep their "rules." We moved the fire with a cooking tong anyway so he could leave us alone. Then he pulled me to the side to talk privately and told me to ask the people, whoever belonged to the next site, to go back to their site and call it a night. That wasn't something he needed to tell me privately- it was dark and that made all of us feel very uncomfortable. Then he creepily hided between trees and stared at us for a good 15 minutes. I've never seen something like this except in horror movies. Our experience at Kenneth L Wilson was very weird and unpleasant, and their ways of keeping their rules were very extreme. Camping should be a relaxing and enjoyable time with friends and family. You don't want to go camping feeling you're under extreme enforcement and being watched every 30 minutes. Someone in our group mentioned it felt like we were camping in a prison. I've camped in many different places in NY, NJ, and PA and I've never experienced unfriendly and uninformative campground staffs like the ones from Kenneth L Wilson Campground before. They were very rude and strict at the same time. If you're my beloved friends or family, I would definitely beg you not to go there. read more

Ive been camping several times before and had been warned by a friend of the poor reviews about the staff at the campsite which i ignored as people with negativity. This campground was very beautiful and spacious, but with that said... It was true the staff was unbelievable. When we arrived to the campsite we were greeted by two people who when my husband asked generic questions (it being his first time camping) and they replied in sarcastic comments making him feel uncomfortable. We let it go thinking maybe they were just having their fun being bored and all. Then night time came and everything got weird!! Their was six of us in total on two campsites. Our friends arrived a little late and got set up in the other lot as my self, my husband and a friend sat in the other talking. All of a sudden a security guy came over and said "hey there may i come in ... I just wanted to let you know i can hear your voice from the road...." (which is approx. 15ft away). According to him it was close to 10 and if he could hear us from the road then we were being too loud for the campers that would wake up at 5 to go hiking .... Funny thing was in a line of 7 lots we were one of 2 camp groups. That other site was very loud but we didnt mind it wasnt very late and no one was ready for bed anyways. Then he creepily stared at me as he talked and slowly walked away... Before leaving he came back and told us another rule that we couldnt have our car in the beginning of or campsite because it "wasnt on the allotted camping space and it was interrupting nature". Umm im pretty sure i payed for the space and if you were worried about nature being interrupted dont allow campers with in he park... He preceeded to drive by and walk by the site approx every 30 min. We got annoyed and eventually went to bed. Then the next night again around 10:15 the same man passed by our site and what we thought was a pretty low toned conversation was interrupted. He snuck in looked around and told us he could here us. I was turned away from him and i guess he didnt like that so he proceeded to try to talk to me instead of my friend who were apologizing. As we walked away i laughed at a joke (not loudly) and he came back and asked which one if us were laughing?? I immediately said it was me and he told me to laugh quietly i told him i couldnt help my laugh and it wasnt loud and he very rudely and arrogantly asked my group... What do you think can she laugh quietly. Again i told him i could not and turned away. He then proceeded to get close and next to my ear and almost whispered try to stay quiet ... goodnight. It was soo creepy and made me feel so uncomfortable. Then again every 30 min he would either walk or drive past and we would stay quiet for two min and then talk normal again. That same night we decided to go for a small walk to the showers. We ended up seeing that strange freaky security guard as he approached us he shined the flashlight into our eyes and once he passed us he turned it off and continued walking down the road mind you it was pitch black without the light, foggy and at least 10 min away from any campsite. It was straight out of a horror film we had to keep looking back to ensure he wasnt following us. On the way back we found him in the road in his truck and as we approached he turn off all the car lights and aat there in the dark watching us. Honestly the harassment isnt worth it. I enjoyed my time there when we werent being bothered but will not be returning. read more

After about a 2 hour drive from NYC, we setup our tents at campsite #45 last weekend. Our site had a good balance of shade and sun. Bring a tarp to hang if you'd like to block the rays. We had 2 tents and hung a hammock. Although the website states a maximum of 2 tents per site, I've seen several sites housing 3 to even 4 tents. The bathroom was about a 2 to 3 minute walk away with a water faucet along the path (ground faucets are scattered throughout the loop). Toilet paper is provided but bring your own liquid hand soap. Also, there are electrical outlets in the bathroom if you need to charge something like your cell phone (just shut it off to save the battery as there is no cell coverage on the grounds). The free, hot showers (water temperature was not adjustable. It was hot enough for me during the cool night but may be too hot for others) were located about a 10 minute walk from our site. Both the showers and bathrooms were well maintained, though I would recommend taking your normal precautions as with any public facilities (use shower slippers or flip flops). Behind the recycling center there is a sink to wash your dishes. However, we just brought an empty bucket w/ lid, filled it with water, and washed our dishes at our campsite. The staff was pleasant and friendly. Dogs are supposed to be leashed at all times but when no one gave us any trouble about our dogs running around unleashed. Each site does have a picnic table and fire pit with grill. You could purchase a bundle of firewood for $5 from the truck that drives by in the evening. They say you need about 3 bundles to last the entire night. We just bought 1 bundle to roast some marshmallows before we went to bed. Or, even cheaper, along the road about 1/2 mile before entering the park, you can purchase firewood at 2 for $1. The picnic area/pavilion by the pond has picnic tables, grills, and even free canoes/kayaks. Duck poop can be found throughout the lawn so watch your step. We walked for an hour and couldn't find the nature trail so I can't comment on that. About a 10 min drive out there's the quaint town of Phoenicia where you could purchase groceries, fishing license, and such. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Ricciardella's one evening. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with how well-kept the campgrounds are; we would return. read more

We love this campground, specifically because we're looking for a quiet experience with our young children and each other. We're there to rest, reconnect with nature, and when night time comes, share the experiences of seeing and hearing the night time critters and looking at the Milky Way with our kids. Then just the two of us sit by the fire and talk quietly and reconnect while the kids sleep. Our son is autistic, and the sensory input of bare feet on the ground, a crackling fire, rustling leaves, cool breezes, and hooting owls calm him completely. We're trying to get away from sensory overload, and bonfires that go up into the trees, drunk and stoned groups who insist they are being quiet when they truly are not, ruin that experience. The rangers are strict about the rules, and we like that. We appreciate the staff bravely enforcing them and not being intimidated by people who have no regard for others and no respect for authority. Not leaving food outside prevents bears from learning that they can acquire food at the camp sites and can then become a danger to campers and will then be in danger themselves. There are enormous fireplaces to build a fire to keep fire from spreading to the surrounding vegetation and becoming a forest fire. If you feel for the folks who wrote negative reviews, then by all means stay away from here and try Kittatinny Campground instead, which is heralded as having "awesome party camping". read more

I was invited along as a sort of newbie camping experience. The park was well maintained and clean, the campsites were also. Fire pit at each site, wood available at the park entrance. Bathrooms also clean and well maintained - and easily accessible. Check in seemed a little paperwork heavy but the woman who signed us in was cheerful and very helpful. Full disclosure: We did not camp here but took advantage of the day use access. The nature trail is lovely and you can make it more challenging/longer by following the foot trail/bike loop that passes through the old stone walls of the previous farms circa 1600s as well as beautiful stands of white pines. We also canoed and kayaked on the beautiful lake that features turtles, frogs, fish, tons of water plants and a beaver dam. The grounds are pristine with lots of areas to picnic and relax, whether in the sun or shade. Staff could not be more helpful--shout out to Park Ranger Elyse who gave us all the info. Our experience at Kenneth L. Wilson campground was a nightmare. We were looking forward to a quiet relaxing camping trip, but were instead targeted, vilified and continually harassed by a security guard named Brian. Brian is strict which we respected, but it quickly became clear he was deriving pleasure from making people uncomfortable. He would park his car 20 feet from your chair and just wait... eventually someone would make a noise loud enough for him to hear (at 9:30pm) and the theatrics would begin. He'd make this big show of approaching, take forever to get to the point, then just start monologuing pure arrogance. It was a combination of moral grandstanding, uninvited stories and condescension. He simultaneously loathed you and seemed to need the human interaction, so he'd just linger about and feed off the negative energy he was creating. We made the mistake of using our own fire pit rather than the site one, so he insisted I move flaming logs with the only tool I had, small cooking tongs. This was wildly unsafe, and for security to laugh at you while you're doing it and say "looks like you have a brain after all" is pretty alarming in my opinion. He staying in our circle another 15 minutes before we had to awkwardly ask him to leave. It got straight up creepy when we could see his silhouette in the woods, perfectly still as he just stared at us, waiting for another excuse to approach. He approached again claiming someone made a noise complaint, which could not have been true as we were talking barely above a whisper all night. His last approach was based on the fact that we reserved 2 separate camp sites but were sitting together... although when asked if this was against the rules he evaded the question. Instead he asked to speak alone to one of the women we were with. This is when we finally pushed back and told him he was being inappropriate, creeping all the women out at our campsite, and needed to bring another authority figure with him if he stepped on our campsite again. He watched us from the street from there on out. Another guard who looked like his brother approached me first thing in the morning. When I told him I wanted to file a complaint he looked at me with a sort of cold sinister smile and taunted "go ahead." It's their campground and they can run it however they want, but the long-winded harassment of guests who are politely asking what they are doing wrong is not okay. Your guests are without cell service and often without backup accommodations for the night. If you abuse your power over them out of boredom or personal entertainment, you should not be working in park security. read more

If i could rate this place less than 1 star i would, i would never recommend this place to anyone. I drove 3 hours from long island because the reviews and the photos i had seen. Showed up at 12:15 and left by 1:45 and rather drive for another 3 hours then stay there for the night. I have been to campgrounds all over the states and i have never been so disgusted with how the sites look. The site i picked was so small and the trees were so over grown everywhere, which made it so hard to enjoy because your constantly ducking branches. I only came with one other and myself and i felt the camp site was way to small, how could i ever have brought more friends. I'm not one to write a negative review but i wish i read this from someone else before i decided to waste a vacation day driving 3 hours to this shit hole. This place is not what it is advertised to be and it was a very disappointing trip. read more

This campground was exactly what I was looking for. I stayed at site 47 and it was perfect and beautiful. The bathrooms were extremely clean and the staff superbly friendly. The only issue was that you could not swim in their lake and it isn't the best fishing lake BUT there are plenty of spots to fish in the area. read more

Staff is a nightmare. We've camped at many campsites, canoe trips & in the wild over 50 years. We're used to critters big & small. The staff would come around & demand that we put our food in the car (ruined) and in our pop-up where the squirrels & chipmonks did a lot of damage where they would have done none if left alone. Not a bad place except for the staff. We've never gone back. read more

I recently stayed at the campground with 3 other ladies. Our site # was 52, very large and the backside of the site was the open woods. Perfect for us and my dog. The ranger on duty in the PM (after dark) came into our campsite, unannounced, scared us to death and upset my Aussie that was sleeping peacefully at our site. Mater was not on his leash at this time. He is a well behaved pet. I understand he should have been on his leash but the part that annoyed us the most was the way the ranger entered our space. He did this twice in one night. The second time he "appeared" in our campsite, he continued to inform is that quiet time is 10 pm. We were well aware of this time and was making no loud noises at all. Just 4 ladies, sitting around the campfire. Two of the ladies/girls - being teenagers. The second night the same ranger walked by twice - Mater was on his leash and the ranger NEVER greeted us at all. Good or Bad. After that point, he continued to drive around our Loop (loop C) 4 times - slowing down each time at our site. The 4th trip around was after 11:30 pm and we were all sitting at the picnic table playing cards - not harming anyone. This was rude and I consider it harassment. I will never camp there again. I camp a lot and I visit this area every year for festivities and family in the area. I will never stay at this campground again due to the rudeness of the ranger. Regina P. read more

My family has been going to Kenneth L Wilson campgrounds for years and we love it. It's a very nice family type campground. Sometimes the rangers can be a little much but they are usually very nice about it. They strictly enforce quiet time (10pm to 7am) but sometimes when you are sitting by the fire just talking they will come around and tell you they can hear you from the road. Since no one is camping on the road, I think we should be okay. The bathrooms are very clean and there is a nice lake for fishing, canoeing or kayaking. Don't try to swim - large snapping turtles! read more

The camp site was clean, large, and with excellent shading. Wood for fire pit is sold at the gate, and it's good quality. We could also use wood found on the ground. The C loop, I believe, is the best. Park staff was very helpful, courteous, and caring. Campsites are close to nature, so extra precautions are needed, but it's only a benefit when someone wants to camp closer to nature. There is a pond in the park, and kayaks can be rented. Restrooms, showers, and general areas are were well maintained, clean, and fit in the landscape well. The location is great. Close proximity to a wealth of trails, a charming town of Woodstock, creek fun in Phoenicia, and some mountaineering for interested. I don't know why, but other guests were very respectful as well, and quiet time (after 10 p.m.) was well respected. I highly recommend this place. read more

I have never had a more horrible experience enywhere else. We were harassed since the first night we arrived. The security seem to take great pleasure in making you feel uncomfortable and invading your private space. Being told we were too loud because we could be heard from the street (which is only a car length away). Brian the park security proceeded to approach us all and demonstrate within inches of some of our faces on how to whisper. He also with a sinister smile on his face and a few put-downs to go along, put us all in danger by literally making us move burning logs out of our fire ring and into the so called supplied fire box (which looks more like a bbq pit if you ask me). Brian would constantly come around all night long stopping, parking his truck, getting out and watching us. It was extremly creepy and bothersome to all of us especially the woman in the group. We wanted to call the police, but there is no phone sevice. With the security shift change, the next guard simply picked up where the last left off. It was clear this was a sick game for them and highly doubtful we were the first. I would never bring my friends or family to this place ever again. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here as a base since we were coming in from Minnesota never seeing the east coast before. We arrived 2 days earlier than anticipated and the park employee was eager for us to start seeing the sites. I would also like to say we were in the off season so fewer people than normal.Our reservation where our site was was already in use so he suggested us to transfer our spot. We drove around the campground and found the perfect location. Just had to pay for 2 extra days camping no big deal it's to be expected. Showers are clean, bathrooms were clean bugs of course not to many but again your outside camping. We were never harassed like previous reviews I have seen. Site 63 we were in was very spacious. There are kayak and canoe rentals which we did not use but is offered. Could go on for days but I highly recommend this campground. It is quiet and no cell signal which I love especially for camping! Will go back! read more
