We were a little disappointment through. When we made the reservations back in March we had a choice of several sites. I asked for her recommendations for the best river site. She recommended R6 and it looked great on the map. When we arrived he told us R6 was not a great site and needed work. I'll say so......look at my photos of site R6. So we ended up across the street and down a few sites. See map in photos I attached. It was a mud pit even on the dry days. No grass or privacy. I asked if any of the concrete pad sites were available as I would pay to upgrade but he told us they were sold out. (However the one across from us was empty our entire stay.) The staff was very helpful and friendly. Not the fault of the campground but the family in the cabin by the river had a small dog that started barking at 6:30am through the day. It was annoying seeing them sit there next to the dog and let it bark.

I love camping, but I'm really picky. I want it all. I want the feeling of privacy, I want to camp on the waterfront, I want the rustic environment with all of it's natural charm & I want that hot shower with a flushing toilet nearby. I wanted the ideal romantic campsite that would be great for a couple. That's a lot to ask for right? Wrong! I found our gem, so stay with me here... First things first! Call them up & discuss your needs. I may want & need all that I have listed above, but your needs may be wildly different. They'll most likely have an ideal spot that caters to all of *your* needs. I need a huge tent, because I'm a bit of an air mattress "glamper," and I also needed the feeling of privacy. *I* was keen to walk a bit & leave the car in another spot to achieve my perfect campout, so they directed me to *my* needs. I spoke with Heidi (a couple owns this site) & she answered all of my questions in-depth before helping me book the site. There is something for everyone, I assure you. Call & discuss with her, she gets *it*. We stayed on the Islands, beyond the Pines sites. There were rules involved. The sign should just read "NO JERKS ALLOWED," but jerks don't read signs & jerks don't even know that they're jerks, so there are rules that pertain. I booked a spot on the Island where there are no radios (except w/ headphones) and no dogs allowed. Sure, you think your music taste is great, and that your dog is harmless & cute, but I might not think that! This part of the campground was perfect for me, but if you want to play radios, have your car right near the tent, or bring your dog along, she'll book you another part of the campground where it's allowed. We pulled into the Pines parking lot & got a handy wheelbarrow to haul our things over to what felt like a completely secluded campsite for my boyfriend & I. The only signs of life from neighboring sites were smoke signals from their campfires. It felt like we owned the land, just him & I, and I was really grateful. I'm a city dweller, I don't need other people to communicate with, because they're with me at all times when I'm home. I wanted to feel alone & I got it! No giant frat party here! If you want a more active part of the grounds, ask, but I don't think jerks are allowed, so keep it in mind if you're a big jerk! We were told how to keep it clean if we didn't want to tempt greedy raccoons & we did, so there was no evidence of hungry animals that would have eaten us in the night. We were also assured that even though it's bear country, bears weren't an issue there like many of the Catskill campgrounds. Not a single bear interrupted us. We did see some gorgeous deer when we pulled into the road, some salamanders, a few hummingbirds & a chipmunk. All so very welcome to share the experience with! Outside of flushing toilets & showers, there are outhouses closer to each site for that middle of the night bathroom trip. When I arrived, Heidi assured, "They're clean." And they were. Nothing gross about the shower house, or the outhouses & that's kind of hard to achieve. Hats off to the couple who own this place. They're doing everything correctly. On-site Heidi runs a little camp shop for all your forgotten, but needed basics. Firewood & sodas, ice, eggs & bacon, marshmallows, grahams & chocs for s'mores. Batteries for lights, and well, you get the picture. These people get my style! Or I get theirs, rather, but you know what I mean. On the campgrounds you'll find the sincerely charming & quaint old covered bridge, a quick hike to waterfalls, and a great menagerie of animals that Heidi keeps! Roosters & chickens, some fancy Polish chickens who look like Andy Warhol art stars, donkeys, a horse, cats & bunnies, curly feathered wedding geese and a goat that begs for a nibble of food. Heidi took the time to satisfy my curious questions about the animals while my boyfriend happily fed them all some feed that you can buy for just a dollar. Thing is, I always leave the campsite & do Catskill things, but this time I didn't even want to leave the site at all. It was all there for me. Although it's pricier than some campgrounds, I'll definitely be dropping my usual favorites & come here instead. It was worth every penny & I'm happy to have found it at last. It's perfect & our hostess Heidi was a sincerely gracious & cool gal that I'll see year after year, I'm sure. I woke up in NYC after my trip feeling fully charged & refreshed, already ticking down the months for my next trip up.

The best thing, Happy Days is only 4 miles from one of the greatest attractions in New York ....Bethel Woods, the 69' Woodstock Concert Field and the historic Woodstock Museum (which is a must see... you'll thank me later). The campgrounds are covered in pine trees, so you awake to great, fresh smelling air. It's very clean. The showers, bathrooms and rec room were immaculate. I drove my RV here, but on the premises, you can rent well restored, classical 3-wheel campers for a minimal fee and spend the night in camping luxury (and instead of my gas guzzling RV, I'll bring my car next time, instead and still save).... Tim, one of the owners, is great. From his story, he had no intention of running a campsite. He was in corporate management. He came to Happy Days as a kid. When the woman who owned the site told him, he'd have to find another place to camp next year ... the wheels went into motion. This campsite is Tim and his brother's baby and the care and the high standards they have also shows in their appreciation of their customers ... and I'm sure that comes from having originally been a customer of the campsite. Make sure you make reservations in advance, especially when Bethel Woods has a concert planned for the weekend. I was going to stay an extra day but I waited too long. There's a crystal clear creek running through the campground. The creek and the river are magical places for kids to play. They search for tadpoles and other critters and can swim in the protected lagoon, which gets deeper gradually. Finally, you can lay in the rushing river water for the ultimate spa experience. Can you tell we liked it here? The campground is run by a family who has had the land in their hands for generations. They are excited and kind about sharing it with visitors and have created an awesome culture of friendliness and respect among campers and the campground owners. There is a well equipped camp store with everything you might have forgotten and even local pottery. The bathrooms and grounds are very clean. They also run tube, canoe and kayak trips where they'll drop you off upriver and you'll finish at Soaring Eagle. We did a tube float down the river which was the highlight of the trip. There weren't many others on the river with us which was a special thing. They also rent canoes and kayaks. We'll try those next time.

I would suggest not to believe the sign saying 189 steps.... it is definitely more! Take drinking water because you'll need that for sure. We went back in August and the heat was definitely there. The parking lot was pretty packed but throughout the trails people were pretty evenly spaced out. Not so much at the base of the falls themselves but there was still plenty of room to move around freely.

Physical requirement is…read moredifferent tho, Kaaterskill Falls has about 500foot of elevation change and a lot of slippery stone steps at the end, if you come here when the weather is still cold. Parking: most people park at the Laurel-House Road parking area, because it is the closest. Or you can park at Mountain Top Historical Society, the old train station, which an extra mile. Starting from the old railroad station is nice, you can still see some old tracks on the ground. Walk to the overlook is fairly easy, once you get to the start point of Lower falls junction, it is where you need to be prepared. I recommend hiking shoe, especially in colder months where the ground is wet and iced. When you reach to the stone steps, they can get slippery. I am surprised no one fell in late March. Half of the steps were cover in ice and people were wearing regular sneakers. Once you reach the base of the two tier falls, the view is tremendous. If water levels are high, you can feel the energy of the water. There is a lot of spray from the falls when you get close. There is short trail to the middle tier pool. It was iced up during winter, spikes will definitely be useful. The end was amazing too. So close to the lead of the waterfall. You can keep going and follow Escarpment trail and follow the edge of the valley. There is monument for fireman Frank Layman who died during firefighting in 1900, at his monument, you can see route 23A bend around mountain. And if you keep going, there are a couple viewpoint to overlook the valley. Nice break points to enjoy the view and rest your legs.

This place is super clean once you get in, everything was very close in proximity to our site. The bathroom, spotless and also the showers. We stayed for 2 days, in those 2 days our son was able to run around worry-free with his bike, go to the beach and swim. FYI NO CELLPHONE SERVICE HERE. So don't complain. camping is about getting out with friends and family and spend time with each other. the lake was not crowded we were able to see fireworks at night. If your using a tent make sure you don't use your stakes for the ground because every campsite is under a bedrock which I was super pissed trying to keep my vestibule up. Also, there are a lot of people using golf carts to get around so best believe that there are people riding around during the day and the night. Overall this place has everything that you need wood, ice cream, condiments, ice, just make sure you take enough goods for the stay. Also, I thought this was a plus if you wanna pay a little bit extra you can have electricity. each site has water and an outlet so if you need to bring a fan to keep the tent cool you should be fine. Kid friendly place. They have a boat dock so you can go fishing and a playground that is clean and a basketball court and volleyball court .
