I like Ken's Market for many, many reasons. 1. I worked there right outta college when I was trying to figure out life and stuff. It was a great place to work. Many of the people I worked with still work there--and I love seeing them when I go to Ken's. 2. They have a solid variety of really good stuff. From quality produce, to awesome deli stuffs, hot coffee in the morning, to delicious-er-than-top-pot doughnuts, and more! 3. Some people complain about the prices--but I'm actually pretty sure they're not that outrageous. If you want cheap shitty produce, go to TJ's. If you want quality produce, go to Ken's. You might pay a few cents more a pound--but it's worth it. 4. Veggie trays. Fruit & cheese trays. 5. Turkey sandwich on the rosemary bread. But surrusly. I love this place. read more

Ken's is Fabulous! If you want to buy cheap fruit and vegetables that deteriorate soon after you get home, shop at Safeway. Since Met Food closed Ken's has stepped up and filled the gap. Safeway has made no effort I can see to try to lure the Met customers. Ken's has quality produce and products and the price is not very different, and sometimes the same or less than the new Met Market in Magnolia. And Ken's has the best service. They know lots, hustle and look for something that would work if they don't have it in stock. Ken's is an excellent shopping experience every time. read more

I've been going to Ken's since I was 15 years old. Many of my friends worked there through high school. 25 years later, they still have great employees and top notch quality food and other products. As a family owned, independent business, it has always been a bit pricier than the large supermarkets. But for great customer service, supporting the local economy, and picking up some darn good meals after a long day, this place can't be beat. Tip: try to avoid parking on 6th if possible... The bus makes a stop there and takes a break so you can't back out. Never had an issue with parking otherwise. read more

I LOVE KEN'S. For being so small they have an awesome, thoughtful selection. Their deli food is delicious. Their wine and beer options are outta this world. The staff is the best, one time I bought giant sunflowers there as a gift and the person outside changing the market sign helped me tie them into my backpack so they wouldn't fall out on my bike ride home. I can always count on Ken's to have the best chocolate, perfectly ripe avocados (how do you do it) and the sweetest team in town. Ken's is the shiznit. I lived down the street from there for 3+ years and the people there: always friendly. Sometimes my roomies and I would meet up with them at Targee's Tavern after hours and shoot pool. Anyways, this isn't going to be a grocery store like Safeway.. if you need basics they got em. This is a great place to stop if your single or your not a coupon cutter. I love the sliced fruit they offer and also the prepared food they sell to go that tastes like Grandma use to make. I have stopped here just to get my mashed potatoes and turkey gravy fix that reminds me of home every time. When I do my bulk shopping I will hit other stores, but if I am in a hurry and want a quick to go meal or have a small list I stop here when I can. read more

This is literally one of my favorite places in Seattle. I love it so much that I recently wrote the following letter to the manager: To everyone at the Queen Anne Ken's Market: Thank you for your excellent service! I love Ken's market so much! It is my favorite part of living in the upper-west neighborhood of Queen Anne. You guys have an AMAZING selection of product for being such a tiny little store. I love that 9 out of 10 times I can go into Ken's Market and find exactly what I'm looking for. On several occasions, I've been to Safeway, TJ's, and Whole Foods searching for something (with no luck), and then I'll go into Ken's and--voila! You have it! I had just an experience this evening--I was at my wit's end after spending over an hour wandering through the overcrowded Whole Food's and TJ's, receiving no customer service at all. My love for grocery shopping was turning into bitterness and rage. KNOWING Ken's would have the last item on my list (not found at either of the before mentioned locations), I stopped in before heading home. I walked in and was immediately greeted by two friendly Ken's employees. It was such a relief to find what I needed in the first aisle I walked down, and then to be remembered by the clerk who rang me up. He remembered that I never want my receipt and said, "I'll go ahead and toss your receipt for you." It was so unexpected I didn't even know how to respond! I walked IN to Ken's with a grumpy and jaded attitude, and walked out with a HUGE smile on my face! Thank you so much for providing a guaranteed pleasant shopping experience EVERY TIME! I am in love with this place. Everyone who works there is super friendly, and you get an enthusiastic greeting every time you walk in--even when they're busy. The selection of wine is great, especially for such a small place. I mainly use them for a quick lunch, since they're right up the street from where I work. Ken's totally supports my laziness, since they have pre-cut small trays of veggies, without which my eating habits during the day would seriously suffer. They also have great prepared foods, both meat and veggie friendly, and tasty soups. Really though, the people are what make Ken's such a midday pleasure for me. I am giving Ken's 5 stars always because I love Ken's. The main reason I shop at Ken's is because it carries Rainier Ale. I and several other RA addicts shop there, except most of them I am told are old guys who come in 3-4 times a day buying 1 maybe 2 (cans) at a time. Thus it is their social contact and exercise as well as their RA. For me, I buy a 6 pack at a time and it is gone in 6 days (good) or 3 days (bad) or somewhere in between. I don't even know of another place that carries RA anymore, and when (inevitably) Ken's drops it or it stops being made, I'm not sure what will happen to me or those other guys. But while I am in Ken's getting my RA, I buy everything else I need, and have been doing that the whole 25 years I have lived on West QA. My kids went to Coe and sold Girl Scout cookies out front. (Yes, I would wait until after the cookie sale to have my RA.) My husband works at a natural foods market so brought home staples at a discount, for anything else the kids and I went to Ken's. In those days they competed pretty successfully with QFC, Spaceway, and Thriftway (now Met Market), but now there is Trader Joes for prices and Whole Foods for selection. The grocery business is competitive and high overhead (although a surer bet than a lot of things). During the boom years Ken's was pretty incredible in their selection and not that bad on their prices. Since the bust, both have gotten steadily worse, and I have the sense that Ken is hanging on by his fingernails. Yet they are always friendly and cheerful around there. So I try not to miss too much the vast selection of foods and goods they had during the prime years, or mind too much the exorbitant prices, and wish Ken well. I am grateful for the opportunity to patronize a small family owned market that reflects our needs. You can't always get what you want but if you try, you can always get what you need. read more

You've got a few basics, a lot of alcohol, and some other random items. All for way more than you would pay if you just went a mile further to Trader Joe's, Safeway, or the Metropolitan Market. Ken's, I love you! I recently discovered Ken's Market after taking a new job down the street, one which requires me to do quite a bit of grocery shopping (I am a household manager). The family I work for send their kids to Coe elementary, which is right across the street from Ken's. One afternoon I was walking the kids home from school and realized that I forgotten to get avocados for dinner. It was then I remembered the little corner market on the way home, and we stopped in. I couldn't believe what I saw; there is SO much stuff in that little store! I've been to Ken's now upwards of ten times in the last 8 weeks now, and I can honestly say that I cannot think of anything I have gone looking for there that I haven't been able to find. From brand-name products to delicious deli items to local baked goods and fresh produce, Ken's has it all PLUS a really outstanding team of people working there! Gourmet corner store market - you can get all the basics (eggs, milk, sugar, flour, toilet paper) in a pinch plus all those gourmet, and often local, bits that make things special - truffle oil, gruyere cheese, tulips, good wine. They have both prepped food (i'm lazy, i often get the pre-cut strawberries) and fresh foods. They are committed to carrying local brands and the staff is friendly and helpful. I feel blessed to have a corner market that is so well stocked and convenient. read more

I stop in to this place every morning for a bagel and a piece of fruit. It doesn't really look like much when you walk in. Very crowded and the aisles are really close together, seems like there is no way you'll ever find anything. Then you meet the employees, who are FANTASTIC! They are there to help you with everything, there is never a shortage of friendly faces grocery store attendants. There is never a time that I walked into Ken's with out someone saying hello. They know everyone who stops in and if your new to Ken's they still treat you as if you have been shopping there for years. The few times I have stopped in to get a bit of lunch at their deli has never once been disappointing. Yes a little spendy, but generally pretty tasty. The store it's self carries mostly your basics and ALOT of organic. Everything a "Queen Anne" mom loves to buy. My one complaint is that everything is price at least a quarter of the price more than going to a regular grocery store. If your ever on Queen Anne and need something quick definitely stop in at Ken's. read more

Friendly neighborhood market. I live close by and frequent Ken's about twice a week to pick up items that I may not have in supply. For me that's usually fruits, veggies, milk, yogurt and the pre-sliced chicken which I love. Always top notch quality and fair pricing. They have all the basics And several speciality items. As folks mentioned, the deli sandwiches are the real deal. These used to be my go-to before I found out I can't have gluten. Would be nice if they had gluten free options too, but I always suggest these to my friends! They carry flying apron baked goods, i will treat myself to a chocolate chip GF cookie. They even do an excellent job of holiday entree prep, e.g. turkeys, lamb, duck, roasts ... you pre-order them, pick em up, and cook em for a great centerpiece to any meal. We live a 30 second walk to this corner market, and more times than I can count we've relied on Ken's for convenience. We've had parties where we've ran out of beer...go to Ken's! Forgot to pick up sage for our Christmas dinner....go to Ken's! Kid want's a lolipop/toy car as a treat....go to Ken's...you name it, we've done it. They're not your average "convenience" store either, they've got high end meats and cheeses and locally grown veggies, fruits and wines. I love Ken's Market. It is very convenient and they have good quality products. And a great place to grab a loaf of fresh and local bread if Macrina Bakery is closed. The employees are wonderful as well. They make an effort to talk and get to know customers. I appreciate that quite a bit! The only downside is they are a little expensive but do have sales on produce and other products occasionally which they advertise on their outside board. Anyway, great little market! read more
