Tow driver opened his door and threw a cigarette down on ground at the end our driveway. I asked that he pick it up. He gave me the ultimatum to leave the cigatette or we wouldn't get a jump. My car has been towed by Ken's twice- the first time was not my decision but the service and people were so helpful and nice that when I did need a tow and I had to call someone I chose Ken's again. The people who work there are very polite, knowledgeable, and someone had a dog named Taco which is only a bonus in my book. This is great service by good people. read more

The roadside services are decent, but the worker Vaughn I believe, can have a bit of an attitude if he's assisting you. Multiple times he's helped me, and just seemed very impatient and rude. I had classes and scheduled things so that when I got home he'd be able to help me just in time to get to my job. we both pulled up at the same time, but he continued to drive off without stopping. I called the office and they said he went to do something else and then they'd get him to come back. Before he came, he called and said "you want your tire changed? then be outside like I said." read more

We had excellent service today, 11/2/2024. The tow truck beat the estimated time of arrival by 20 minutes. The driver was efficient and courteous. Both of us have knee problems, and he kindly helped each of us into the cab of the truck, urging us to take our time. He was just as helpful when we got out at the Honda dealership. read more

After towing my automatic transmission car, the plug in the console was lost. This tiny plug would have cost me $270 for Chrysler to order the entire assembly and install the plug. They failed to respond to my request to replace the plug, so I plan to replace the plug with a small, hand carved, rubber plug. They are not a bad towing company but failed to step up to fix the mistake. Giving two stars. read more

TERRIBLE. My college age son called them to replace his car battery. They did not even test the battery. The driver tightened a screw and charged us $50. The car died again. I called asked them to check the battery and they wanted to charge me another $50. When I tried to explain, the guy yelled and spoke over me. They lied and tried to claim my son said he was in a hurry, which was not true. We called Bland's and they were polite and tested and replaced the battery. We will never call this place again. A-1 service from first phone call to resolution! My car was dead. Wouldn't turn over. Sparks under the hood if you tried to start it. Happy Monday morning! Called Ken's Westside Service to request a tow to the dealership. The gentleman that answered the phone was friendly and prepared (my insurance forwarded our info), told me that he would have someone on the way within the hour as they were super busy. I received a number of texts letting me know the driver's status. Gavin was the driver sent out to get the car out of the garage and haul it in to service and he arrived at the house exactly when expected. He asked me what was happening and I gave him the scoop. He asked me to try to start the car while he looked under the hood. It hesitated, but actually started. And I felt like an absolute idiot. But Gavin was VERY gracious and took away a little of the sting of embarrassment and I was able to successfully back the car out of the driveway. I decided to have it towed in anyways, just to be safe, but while he was hooking the car up he checked the battery terminals and found that one wasn't connecting properly and there was quite a bit of corrosion. He tightened the connector and the car started right up! He told me what he found and that he felt confident that my problem would be fixed if I had the connector replaced and the corrosion cleaned off ... so I'm off (in the car that made me look foolish) to the dealer to have it fixed. Despite the frustration that we all feel when there's an issue with our cars, on a Monday morning no less, I have to say that if you have to call a towing service, call Ken's. And if the gentleman that took my call and Gavin are any indication of the quality, professionalism and friendliness of the folks at Ken's, you won't go wrong! While this business has serviced the community for 40 years, I would not use them for any towing services. The son, Kenny is disrespectful, insensitive, and has made racist comments on the job. As a consumer, I would want to know that the people towing my vehicle or others from my property will be professional and respectful at all times. Kenny mocked George Floyd's death and has demonstrated implicit biases and microaggressions towards people of color. This ultimately affects how you treat your customers and it is important for people to know that they may experience different rates, disrespect, or unprofessionalism like I have In my opinion, I would save my dollars and partner with another business, or have your car towed by another company. Truck battery was dead in my driveway. Called to have it towed to the dealership to have it replaced as Chevrolet will void the warranty if you replace the battery yourself. They quoted me a price. The driver came and picked up with nearly no trouble, I even helped him while he operated the wench on the flatbed. The next day they called me and upped the price $50 dollars, said it was sunk in mud. Granted it has rained quite a bit here and I have a gravel drive so it was a bit muddy but by no means sunken in mud. When I went to pickup my truck they had nearly doubled the price of the tow. Will never use these crooks again even if I have to push my vehicle in. read more

I had to have my car towed here. I had them look at my car for a diagnosis for why it was stalling. They said I had a faulty distributor and quoted me $581 dollars including the price of the tow. When I turned down the service they knocked $100 off the price to get me to stay with them. Still said no. Had my friend who works on cars install the distributer, which only cost $165, and it took him less than 40 minutes, and that was with him showing and explaining things to me. Do not trust these people -- they will take advantage of you and SEVERELY up-charge you! read more

I needed my car towed on Saturday night/Sunday evening and they originally told me it would take 20 minutes to half an hour. I stayed with my car and after an hour, no one had come, so I decided to call but got no answer. I ended up waiting until 5am and had called several more times without answer every time. I finally decided to tell them I would leave my key and asked them to call me when they got around to towing my car. When I woke up this morning at around 10am, I still had no response from them and called again and finally someone answered and said they would get my car and then call me, and that took an additional 2 hours. Overall, my experience was very disappointing and frustrating and I don't recommend this company for towing. read more

I recently had my vehicle towed on two separate occasions in apx 10 day period of time. Ken's was the service provider chosen by my insurance company. Both times they were fast and professional and I was offered a ride and although I didn't need a ride..... it was nice to be offered! Can't speak about their repair services as I didn't use this but for a towing service I would absolutely recommend. read more

I got a flat on my way to class today, I used a third party provider to set up roadside assistance - after a no show from the first service provider they redirected me to Ken's Westside Service & Towing. Vinny called me right away to let me know he was on his way and to verify my location. Once he arrived he was so helpful and efficient getting my spare tire on, as well as helping me set up a follow up appointment to put a permanent tire back on my vehicle. Today I needed my car jump started and the gentleman came earlier than the ETA. Had it not been for Vinny I would've gotten towed and I also would not have known something as little as my battery's terminal was lose. I took it into his shop through his suggestion because he was very trustworthy. I was worried that because I'm a young woman that I may get "ripped off" as they say. However this was the exact opposite of what happened. They said it was an easy fix and just did it for me. Amazing. Amazing service and friendly faces. To the Management of Ken's Westside Service & Towing and the community of Bloomington, I recently requested towing and services to be performed on my automobile via Ken's Westside business and am completely disappointed in my experience. I would like to make note of my experience with two purposes in mind; first, to notify Ken's business that the services it rendered was below my expectations and unacceptable, and secondly, to inform the community should they seek reviews while determining which business to engage in the future. I will split my review into three main components: towing, timing, and parts & service. While I was running errands around town, my car suddenly would not start. It was late in the day with fresh snow and blistering cold. I did not have much time to research tow companies as businesses were beginning to close, so I called Ken's business as it was less than 2 miles from where I was stuck. Ken's tow truck came within a reasonable time and the employee was friendly and helpful. He towed my automobile back to Ken's business, and based on our discussions, I was under the impression that my vehicle would be repaired and available the next day. His initial assessment was that the starter needed replacement which would not take much time at all; from our conversation, a starter replacement would not take more than a couple hours. Upon review of the invoice, the tow cost was reasonable and pretty much in line with my expectation. The next day I received a call from Ken's and was informed that the starter needed replacement and that the service would take a couple hours as expected. I approved this service and was satisfied thus far. However, I did not hear from Ken's the rest of the day. I did not hear from Ken's the next day either. The business was closed the following day. Finally, four days after my automobile was towed, I was contacted by the business that my vehicle had been repaired and was available. I was utterly dissatisfied that the services took such an extended period of time and was so grossly beyond the timing that the business and I had discussed. When Ken's employee contacted me and communicated the final price, I was absolutely shocked. The price was a multiple of what I was originally quoted. I was told the services performed were a machine assessment, replacement of a bolt, and replacement of the starter. The cost charged for the starter was at the absolute top price range of comparable prices online. But I was fine with that cost as it was in the expected range. Then, I was told by the employee that while he was removing the bolt on the starter, it broke and he had to approach the starter using another angle. His explanation for the bolt breaking was that the bolt was put on incorrectly when previously repaired as evidenced by the "vise grip" markings on the bolt and destroyed threading. I immediately knew that this was false as I purchased the car (first and only owner) brand new and had no previous work done that would have resulted in a damaged bolt with "vise grip" marks. It is entirely impossible that the bolt would have "vise grip" marks on it. The employee claimed that he had spent the better of a day and a half replacing the starter as he had to change his approach. After enlightening him that I knew his explanation for the broken bolt to be false, he immediately retracted his statement and slightly reduced the amount of hours for charged labor. I still could not understand how he was justifying the amount of labor charged and was again shocked when he admitted that the service normally would take "about an hour" to perform if the bolt had not broken. I then reminded him that I knew his explanation for the broken bolt was false. Ultimately, I was forced to pay 4.5 times the labor that he claimed it would normally take to perform the service and was repeatedly reminded that I was getting a deal as he had already reduced the labor charges. As helpless as I felt when I paid the charges, I knew I was at the mercy of Ken's business. When I pondered about the time spent to replace the starter, I realized the aptitude of those handling my vehicle was below the industry norm and that no further discussion with the employee would result in an improved customer experience. As such, I became certain that I would never again bring my vehicles to Ken's Westside Service & Towing. Based on my sole experience, I have no confidence that this business could serve me with integrity and would never again trust my automobile needs after the display of dishonesty. Again, the dual purpose of this narrative is to express my experience and to caution anyone considering engaging in services with Ken's Westside Service & Towing. I acknowledge there were a few inklings of good customer service; however, the overall experience resulted in me feeling helpless and victimized. read more

I had a tow request sent through Meineke and was told the tow truck would arrive within 45 minutes. Kens WestSide service was located .3 miles away from my location and they still took over an hour. Also; I called before they arrived to see if I needed to stay with the vehicle or just leave the keys and they told me (in an annoyingly rude tone) that I would have to stay and sign but this wasn't the case- as they arrived and took the car without needing any signature or anything from me. If I could leave zero stars, I would have. Go somewhere else if you value your time! :) read more

Update** I picked my car up today and the problem was fixed beautifully and it even came in 30 bucks under budget so I retract my 3 star rating and they now get 4 the only complaint I have is the communication between the garage and myself. They say they will call you with updates and when it's ready but I had to call daily myself which really isn't a big deal more of a minor annoyance than anything. I'd suggest giving Kens Westside a try next time you find you're in need of some quality auto repairs. read more

They told a new employee at their 90 day review that they're getting a raise and then the raise NEVER went on their check. When it was brought up it STILL wasn't put on their check. So they put in their two weeks notice and found another job. That is NOT how you treat employees when you brag so much about how you treat your employees "like family". Don't work for this company! They lie and say you got a raise and then never put it on your check. Even after the employee was nice enough to give a two week notice ken told him to go ahead and leave a week early, shorting him a check. Extremely rude driver. I had to have my car towed after being one of numerous collisions on SR 37 due to snow and ice on the road. After asking if I had someone to pick me up (mind you it was below freezing and they shut down the road to deal with all the collisions), he ended up dropping me off at the end of my apartments and made me walk the rest of the way, I was 7 months pregnant at the time. Overall not a great experience, very rude and demeaning tone. Would not recommend them at all. read more

We needed an emergency repair and were very pleased with the prompt, reliable response we received from Ken's towing and service!

My dad took his truck to Ken's for repair because the engine was missing out when driving. He was charged $725.63. and was told the trouble was fixed and said they had to replace the catalytic converter. The very next day it started doing the same thing. Dad returned the truck to Ken's, who then changed the spark plugs and air filter but did not charge for it and told dad to drive it to see if that fixed the problem. The truck was still not fixed. So, dad took the truck to Flex Tune Technologies at 5200 S Production Drive in Bloomington. They diagnosed the problem as a wiring harness that had gone bad and charged $262.00 for the repair, this fixed the truck which then ran perfectly but on the way home he noticed that there was a rattling noise beneath the truck and returned it to Flex Tune, who informed him that the Catalytic converter had been installed incorrectly and he needed to return to Ken's to have it fixed because it was installed improperly and should be under warranty still. He took it to Ken's, who then said that he no longer put on Catalytic Converter's and then also said that he had replaced parts underneath vehicle that he did not charge for them, but could not tell dad what those parts where or why he didn't charge for them. Dad then had to take his truck back to Flex Tune to fix the Catalytic converter that was installed by Ken. Flex Tune said that there was a part on the Catalytic converter that was damaged beyond repair during installation and they charge me another $238.29 to fix the catalytic converter and that part. Don't take your truck here unless you want to be taken advantage of and have repairs done that are not needed. read more

After an accident, I had my car towed from the scene by these guys at the recommendation of the officer at the scene. I had to wait a few days to pick it up due to selling it and insurance assessment. When I go to pick up my car, they hit me with a $430 bill: $150 for towing it 3 miles and $280 for giving it to another company to leave on a gravel lot for a few days. read more

DO NOT USE KEN'S TOWING!!! I had my vehicle towed and they towed it to their storage lot until my insurance company got back with me to determine which collision center to take it to. I was told upfront I would be charged for one tow, not two if I did it this way. When I went to get it towed from the stoarge lot to the collision center they tried to charge me for two tows. This was after I argued with them for 10 minutes about whether they towed my vehicle. When I first called them they could not locate my vehicle and said they never towed it. Lesson learned, do not use Ken's Towing. I recommend Rick's Towing and it is half the price of Ken's. read more
