Be warned that the address is wrong on this. Flextune is actually located at 5200 South Production Drive, which is way out by Monroe Hospital. Flextune is hands down the best mechanic in Bloomington. Routinely MUCH less expensive than anywhere else I've gone, and they're great about telling you what actually needs fixed and what you can wait on. They're fast and friendly, and not condescending. Absolutely no complaints. The distance makes it a little difficult to get out there - not really bike-able or bus-able. Location in Yelp is incorrect; it is actually about 5 minutes south down Rt 37 past the Rt 45 overpass. Google has the correct address. I needed the front and rear struts replaced on my 2002 Protege and after getting about 8 or 9 estimates over the phone I chose Flextune. They were not the cheapest, but they were about $400 cheaper than the highest estimate (Meineke). The car now rides like it's brand new and I am very satisfied with the work. My only complaint was that I was not notified that the repair would take longer than anticipated and they had to order additional parts. They extra cost wasn't much but I would've appreciated a phone call; I probably didn't get one because they were very busy and that says something about their quality. All in all I was very satisfied and I will probably go back there in the future. read more

I took my 2000 Dodge Ram to them to replace the wheel cylinders and install new rear shoes. I drove the truck maybe 10 miles home, went out to drive it a few days later and the pedal went straight to the floor. I figured it needed re bled so I let it sit for a few weeks. (I only use it to pull a trailer.) I go out tonight to bleed it and low and behold, they had not replaced the wheel cylinders (That I furnished) and they just put new bleeders in. I noticed that they hadnt left my core shoes in the truck either but thought that was just an honest mistake. So now I paid money for a job that clearly wasnt done, and lost my core $$. I called them around noon. Mike said I could come in to have my brakes checked immediately. Mike gave me a reasonable estimate to repair the front breaks, including replacing the rotors... Which I was shocked to have ruined. They were able to give me a ride to where I needed to be, did the work, and picked me up so I could get my car. Time from initial call to paying the *reasonable* bill: 4 hours. Unbelievable! Plus, the guy who drove me plus worked on my car, Rich, was friendly and informative, too. Mike at Flextune is great and has done really good work for me several times. He seems to be an honest guy and I think the prices are pretty reasonable. The only reason I didn't give an extra star is that I had an experience with one of his employees who definitely screwed up, but I guess that could happen anywhere. I needed an outer tie rod end replacement, and any other place I called insisted that on top of the tie rod end, I would need a full alignment. At flextune, the tie rod end itself was cheaper, but they also explained to me why I did not need a whole alignment to go along with it. The whole repair was at least half the price of other places that had quoted me, and more than half the price of some. I feel like they are honest, fairly priced, and are not going to recommend unnecessary repairs. read more

Wonderful service! They were able to take my car in the day I called. I was able to get the wheel sealed, AC diagnosed, and the oil changed all at once (cheapest oil change yet, btw). They were cheaper than the other opinion I got, and even offered to find a used part to make it even cheaper. They were straightforward, fast, and efficient, know what they're talking about, and seem to know the right places to look to get the parts you need. We went to these guys a couple of times and didn't really have any problems, but then my Toyota Camry came down with vapor lock (vapors build up in the gas tank and prevent filling). They diagnosed it and said the charcoal canister needed to be replaced. They said a new part would be around $400 or they could get a used one from one of the junk yards for under a hundred. I said fine, let's do the used. They said it might take a few weeks since they would have to go through the scrap yards... That was last summer, a few months went by without a single word from them, I got busy with the semester, etc. etc... I've been making do, but now it's gotten so bad that it needs to be fixed urgently. I'm shopping around for a different mechanic now & thought I ought to let people know about this while I'm at it. Maybe there was just a mixup with paperwork getting lost or whatever, but frankly keeping your orders straight is just absolute bare minimum customer service. Really unimpressed & taking my business elsewhere. read more
