Rowboat rental

Beautiful and expansive park! It costs to get in, but worth it. The rowboat rental was only $8.

I've been coming here for years and it's always well worth the drive! My most recent visit was for a 26.2 mile power walk and jog. I was so pleasantly surprised when I found open (and clean!) restrooms on the 8.5 mile loop, despite the fact that it was the off season. I started my marathon around 8am and ended around 2pm. I took in all the sights and views. So many swans, squirrels, and birds. I even saw a family of deer crossing the path (which paused my workout for a half hour as I took it all in but that's okay!) I didn't get bored during my multiple trips around the long path. There's not as many walkers, runners, bikers, etc in the slower season but there's still so much to offer at Kensington! The main path is all asphalt and well paved. The daily pass is $10 a day, but there wasn't anyone working when I arrived during my most recent trip. Lots of things to do in the summer such as disc golf, swimming, boating and there's even a splash pad for kids as well. So many things to do! Highly recommend!

We were visiting from Illinois and decided to spend an afternoon outdoors enjoying the many paved trails and scenic walkways. You pay a 10.00 admission fee per car. Plenty of parking . There is a nature center and bathroom facilities. You will see a variety of birds, foliage and wildlife. Picnic benches throughout. The best part of this park is many of the birds will actually eat out of your hands! A fantastic way to spend the day!

Nice day for a walk, coming back for sure! Great place for a date. Even better in the winter time (less bugs).

We've been coming to Kensington Park for a little over a year. We've been here biking wait a few times and also for sunsets. This past weekend we were here for the island queen Pantone boat tour. The tour was very interesting. It lasted about 45 minutes in length and took you around. The captain was very knowledgeable of the background of Kensington Park and also had a very good sense of humor. I would definitely come back again next summer with a company out of state.

I have been coming to this metro park for over thirty years. First with my kids when they were young and now with my grandchildren. This park really is quite large with many family/group oriented options to choose from including picnic area's throughout with shelters/grills, several beaches, prepared food concession areas during summer months, fishing, camping, long walking/biking trails, disc golf, lots of wild life to include deers/turkeys which are plentiful, water slides, and a fairly large petting farm. The park is extremely clean and quite scenic with plenty of woods and lakes in the background all at a cost of $10 for a daily pass and $29 for an annual pass. On this particular day we met the entire immediate family for a fun day of picnicking, disc golf, a nice walk with a stop for the grandkids to play on some play structures and ended the day with a memorable stop at the petting farm which the adults and grandkids enjoyed alike. Lots of baby animals to see and close access to many of the animals for easy petting. What a wonderful way to spend a day with the family on what was an amazing early spring day in Michigan (Almost 60 degrees and sunny on March 8th - Wow!). Overall this park is really a gem of metro Detroit area and is definitely something you want to experience if you are in the area. One of our favorite places to go as a family with a lot of great memories over the years. Highly recommend.

For our family, Kensington Metropark is a destination any time of the year. Warm weather pursuits include biking, boating, swimming, fishing, and even golf and disc golf, and the winter offers cross-country skiing and sledding, but our favorite thing to do is simply hike the trails and enjoy the abundant wildlife - any time of the year. There are 4 short (less than 2 miles) nature trails, plus a rustic trail loop. Leashed dogs are permitted on the rustic loop. The trails are primarily mixed gravel and boardwalks and take you through shaded forests, wetlands, and prairie. Depending upon the time of year, the wildflowers can be beautiful and we usually see sandhill cranes, deer, turkeys, herons, egrets, and an occasional osprey or bald eagle, both of whom have nests within the park. We've even seen enormous snapping turtles in certain areas. For the adventurous, arrive with birdseed. Just fill the palm of your hand, raise it towards the birds, and watch gently as those accustomed to this will feed directly from your hand. It's a thrill that never gets old. We usually start our hikes at the nature center (parking is available) and go from there. The nature center has nice habitat-related exhibits, bathrooms, a resident rescued red-tailed hawk, is often staffed by friendly and helpful naturalists and is a great place to warm up during a cold, winter hike. If you think that this might become a regular recreation spot for you, I'd recommend purchasing an annual pass.

I took my two sons to the nature center to walk some of the nature trails. It was a really fun experience. We saw all sorts of birds and even saw some wild turkeys. The trails were well marked and not too busy. I look forward to going back to explore more of the nature trails and everything else the park has to offer.

Southeast Michiganders are lucky to have Kensington Metropark available to them. Sure you have to buy a pass each year, but if you run, walk, bike, appreciate nature and wildlife, do photography, or like the outdoors, it's worth the cost of an annual pass. Kensington is beautiful and offers wildlife/changes in scenery each season. Spot deer and even an albino deer, see birds including bald eagles, and so much more. On today's run I enjoyed a dusting of snow with crisp, colorful golden leaves scattered on top. The changing fall leaves with the contrasting white and lake in the background were stunning. Though there's some hills along the path, it's great for getting in a short or long run. Out and back and loop around the park for 8.3 miles. And in the winter when the snow comes down heavy, they do the best job of plowing the path of all the local trails. Definitely check it out if you haven't been yet!

Kensington Metropark, 35 minutes northwest of Detroit in western Oakland County is a true 5-Star gem for off-road bicycling. This Metropark, one of Michigan's most popular, has a 9 mile paved multi-purpose trail that encircles Kent Lake for cyclists, runners, walkers and in-line skaters. Kensington's trail is also connected to paved off-road trails from the Island Lake Recreation Area and Huron Valley's Trail System enabling cyclists to extend their rides well beyond the 9 mile Kent Lake loop. Today, my wife and I did a Kensington-Island Lake combo of 14 miles over hilly terrain that got the quads screaming on the many uphill grades. The vistas around Kent Lake however, make this a great scenic ride. I was particularly glad to see improvements underway with several sections of the trail freshly paved since our last visit. Kensington Metropark is highly recommended for the recreational cyclist or jogger that is looking for a little more challenging hill climbing than the typical Michigan bike trails. Go ahead...burn a few extra cals and feel good about scarfing down a Detroit-style pizza afterwards. Five big stars.

A friend brought me here to have a picnic and to walk around. WOW....I mean, coming from LA....there's just nothing like this. First off, we packed a nice lunch and sat at a bench. She then brought out some sunflower seeds and made a nice pile, and we were able to watch birds and chipmunks come and take their share of it while we ate. I came early October, so the leaves were starting to change colors, and it was soooo beautiful! There are long flat trails with trees shading overhead, also marshes you can walk through as well. We saw so many kinds of birds, saw wild turkeys, and many duos of cranes. It was such a magical experience. I felt like snow white LOL tldr; highly recommend. Picnic and bring some seeds for the birds :)

Annual pass cost $35 per vehicle. The blue sticker is valid till December of the same year. Parking is free. The park is so wide that we still get lost Even though we been here a couple of times. Plenty of area for picnic. There's barbecue grill scattered around the park. Just bring enough charcoal and fire starter to use for grilling. The wind was kind of windy today, but it didn't take long for us to ignite the charcoal. The park has a boat rental and launch area, bike path, nature observation area, horseback riding, and recently we discovered the farm center. I though the farm center was a restaurant. But we discovered there were horses, goats, hens, pigs and other farm animals kept alive and raised. It's free to look around. If you want to ride with the horse you have to buy tickets from the center.

Until this spring I had been here maybe once or twice and really failed to see how special it really is. Then came Covid-19 and long periods of time indoors. When the weather turned and there were still lots of businesses and activities closed I found going to a park very therapeutic. And now that more things are open and we are (hopefully) headed back towards normal-ville I find myself still going to Kensington because I've fallen in love with all of its charm and beauty. It's much larger than the majority of the other Metroparks, and there's something for everyone. Beach, check. Fishing, check. Hiking trails, check. Boardwalks and marshes, check and check. An abundance of birds, squirrels and chipmunks, why yes. It's a nature photographers dream! Picnicking, playing, biking and more await. I've had a blast taking my camera and know that this is a new favorite spot for years to come!!

Keeping this short so all I have to say is Im in love with the hiking trail (about 8 miles) - it's shared by runner, walkers, and bikers.

The recent updates are very nice but it is an absolute and total failure on behalf of the City counsel to price any sand all entertainment out. I have yet to see a concert there since the updates, the weekly car show along with Sunday concerts were a long standing tradition and fantastic. It is a shame to see the park theater empty of any entertainment like it used to be. Make the price affordable or free to use, after all it is tax dollars that paid for it.

Integral with this park you will find a very nice large children's play area with multiple wooden structures, Outdoor fire pit, Veterans memorial, and outdoor concert area. Overall it is a very nice and well thought park that really adds a lot to downtown Brighton and is a great example why this small city is so desirable and a destination spot for spending a day or nite downtown. One of my favorite things to do when visiting my son who lives downtown is to walk to Mill Pond with my grandkids, let them play at the park and end up eating lunch there and/or getting them ice cream. Makes for an excellent and memorable day!

I give this lake 5 stars because it fulfils all I require from a laking experience. Some folks like…read morea mini jobie nooner every weekend, I like to chill. I don't want to hear other people's children "playing" or whatever it is they do that's so loud. I don't want to vie for space on the sand bar. I don't want to hear other people's music, or see them dancing. You get the point, I'm not into the social scene that can be typical of Michigan lakes. You might be saying "why don't you get your own lake then you anti social jerk?". Well, that's basically what Orchard Lake is. It's amazing. There is literally like, no one on this lake 99% of the time. If you're lucky enough to be able to boat during the weekdays, you can often be the ONLY person on the water. You could totally lay out nude and no one would even be around to see you. The busy weekends don't really seem busy, and I have yet to feel crowded or annoyed. It's silent, peacful, serene and relaxing. Perfect. This is a VERY clean lake, and I believe it's the second or third largest in Oakland County. The water is clear and sparkling in most areas except for the very deepest parts. There is only seaweed in a few spots but these are not the chill areas and are easy to avoid. I love the variety of wildlife that can be seen on this lake including egrets, swallows, hawks, ducks, swans and lots of cute little fish that seem happy to hang out by the humans. The sandbar is spotless, probaly due to the "no drinking" poloicy that we, of course, follow to a T. LOL. The no drinking policy is most likely what keeps this lake fairly empty, and it works for me.
