Usually they're alright and the food is pretty good. This time their popcorn was super stale! I have been to Kent plenty of times and I know what I am getting into.. the screens are small, this time were was a stain on the bottom of the screen..the bathroom are not the best, very small and sometimes smells. Their claw machines also steal your $..but the manager was nice enough to return it to us. They are also rigged, they barely grab on to the toys.. but hey.. it is what it is. It was only 5 o'clock on a Friday and the popcorn was almost gone and NOT fresh. That disappointed me the most. read more

Rude and dismissive staff. There was a very loud family in there with misbehaving small children. This and the fact that the movie was so horrible that my son and I walked out 30 minutes into it were the reasons why I requested a refund or at least 2 comps for a future movie. The young girl in there was about to honor my request but then denied it when she realized that I purchased the tickets through an app. After I went home, I called the theater to ask for the manager. The first guy at least tried to help me, but then the second guy mocked me and referred to my deceased mother. That guy should be fired. This movie theater was good but now it's horrible after the pandemic. Workers here are rude and made jokes about our age. I was with my best friend and my younger and her younger sibling and the workers thought our younger sibilings were teenagers when they were 10. They made jokes about their appearance and talked shit about us thinking we didn't hear them. Also this Indian guy in a grey shirt assumed we brought in food because we ate out and refused to let us in until the 3rd time we came back and almost missed our movie. Not to mention the theater is extremely dirty. I'm guessing they're trying for a kind immersive horror experience with their too-dim theatres, the ripped upholstery, the crappy screen. But I went there to see a relationship drama, so it was just really disturbing. This is the kind of old school neighborhood movie house that deserves to be saved with the lights on the marquee and the quaint box office, a few video games and a small snack counter, the whole place run by 2 or 3 people. Before my arrival i made sure to call and ask the last viewing of the Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. The representative who answered the phone was very informative and informed me the last movie would be at 9:30pm. He was very polite and well mannered. Once we arrived. One of the employees was outside smoking he try to tell the other employee who I was on the phone with prior to my arrival that the last movie is for 10pm. The guy knew I called prior so he ignored him and just quickly assisted my family and me. Big shout out to his professionalism and attentive service. The movie theater was very small and the seats where uncomfortable. Overall I satisfied my son enjoyed the movie and his popcorn paw patrol bucket. Restroom was very unsanitary and dirty. read more

To be fair, this move theater is pretty old, the seats don't recline but it has an old school vibe that's fun to watch movies in. You can also get Groupon tickets which makes it more fun. There's also arcade games like basketball and boxing which makes it a good date night. Is it a 5 star theater no, but is it a vibe definitely yeah! read more

This is a VERY OLD theater, so I'll start with that as a caveat. However, the movie playing in the room next door sounded like it was part of the soundtrack to the movie I was watching. Not only was the door to my screening room left open thru the first 10 minutes of the movie, but the open door allowed the hallway lights and noise directly in, which takes away from the viewing experience. Once the door was finally closed, just the LOUDEST parts of the movie next door were overlayed on top of what I was attempting to watch. This was my first time at this theater, and will most likely be my last. The 2 stars I gave was for the politeness of the staff. read more

Giving Kent Theatre 4 stars because of how cheap the movie tickets are(~$9). We went to go see "Us" in this theatre and bought our tickets out front by the booth. Although we had to wait behind the lines inside for the employees to clear out the theatre (only 3 in the entire place), I had no issues. The popcorn and nachos with cheese were super cheap and yummy. Taking off one star because inside the theatre smelled a little too much like febreeze / a bathroom after someone threw up. Would come again though, especially for a clean, cheap late night feature of a popular movie when I'm tired of paying $20 for a ticket in AMC/Regal. read more

The truth is I only go here because it's cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. It's very old, with our date furniture. It's obvious cleanliness is not a priority. I usually brings wipes to wipe down my seat before I sit down. Be sure to call before you go because online they may advertise a movie the actually are not showing. That happened to me last month. The window guy or gal is also the same person who scans your ticket so be patient as they are doing double duty at two different locations. But for a cheap movie, I'll keep putting up with the mess of this place. read more

It's a low budget theatre so you get what you pay for. I bought my tickets via Groupon - $10 for two tixkets. My son's ticket I bought at the counter for $4.00. We went to see Paddington 2. My kids are too young to be particular. I just wanted some place close to home and close to my favorite Thai restaurant on Church Ave. They had a great time and the food was actually fresh. The theatre only had a total of 6 ppl so it was okay to laugh and enjoy themselves. Don't go for a first date kinda place. read more

Another reviewer said "Come in with the right expectations" and that's exactly right. As theaters get more modern, and in some cases disappear outright, the charm of the old-school movie theater is desperately missed. I have no idea how the Kent, which was not one of Brooklyn's most glamorous theaters, has stayed in business all these years, and even after the pandemic, but they have and I'm happy to see them. It is very rare that I will see a film here because they seem to do mostly children's fare, but today they played House of Gucci, and it was much more preferable to see it here versus trekking out to the charmless multiplex that is the UA of Sheepshead Bay or Manhattan where the prices are out of control and it will take me two hours to get back. The Kent has enjoyed an upgrade since last I patronized, mainly with better snack options and an arcade. You can go to the arcade for free without seeing a movie. The games looked pretty cool, and I can see how a family could make a whole day here or do a birthday party. I especially appreciated the fact that it was just me and two ladies in the theater because pandemic theater going is not without its fears. Say what you will, you won't fight off crowds here and should have your choice of seat more or less at all times. I also appreciate that even while upgrading it looks like a theater from the 70s or 80s. I miss that theater going experience I had so regularly when I was little and this brings it back. The only other theater that is like this in Brooklyn is the Cobble Hill. I like that you have to pay money to a person in a little booth, and that the floors are sticky, and they have a random candy machine housed inside a glass container that says Movie Facts and it looks like it's from 1982. It is also super convenient, transportation wise - the B68 is right in front and you are within walking distance - a long walking distance but an ok walk if the weather's nice - from the Q on Ave J. There are things I didn't like. The seats have little leg room and after almost 3 hours of sitting there, my body was feeling it. It was kind of cold, they could do with some heating in the winter. They also have loud games, and bad insulation between theaters and also between the theater and the snack bar so you may hear sounds during the show. That being said, the projection looks like any Manhattan theater, and theaters are about the size of the smaller theaters at the Angelika. I want to tell the Kent to improve some of these things, but I know there is no point. The Kent's very existence is a miracle. I'd be shocked if it's still around five years from now or less. Enjoy this artifact of moviegoing while you still can warts and all. read more

Staff waiting outside dont bother to offer any explanations or apologies. schlepped there with my kid in the rain just to find theatre unopened. Come in with the right expectation. It's an old school theatre where seats are one level. If someone sits in front of you, you're doomed. But during the pandemic, not likely to have anyone sitting in front of you. In fact, you might get the whole theatre to yourself! I paid $11 for a 3D movie on Labor Day, so that's a steal! the kent theater has projections that may overheat and therefore the movie skips. the screen turns blank though sound is on. During a recent showing of the color purple at the most crucial scene, we had to go and ask for the movie to be rewound and it happened again. the manager and box office staff says it overheats and they cannot control it or fix it. take your chances on completing the movie. read more

This is a great local theatre. Tickets are dirt cheap but they still show first run movies. You can take children here and not feel like you are ruining everyone's film experience. Take note, people take children here to see movies, not dates. It feels good to see a locally owned theatre still surviving instead of a triple the price Corp-plex. This theatre is no frills, at all. If you come here expecting to watch a movie on a big screen for as cheap as possible in NYC -- then you've come to the right place. The attendants (all quite nice) take their time and provide an adequate (albeit very slow) service to their patrons. This is not a place where they will go above and beyond to meet your needs. You'll be waiting a while, so get there early and have a little patience. That said, if your expectations aren't high, this is a cute little theatre, kinda run down and raggedy, but the prices are so cheap that if none of this bothers you, you can still come here and have a good time. This a good neighborhood movie theater. Not pricey/fancy. It has 3 theaters. Medium size but it plays the most popular movies that are out. They recently upgrades their seats. Nice leather and I hope they don't get destroyed by stupid people. Wednesday is their best day as regular movies are just $5. 3D movies are $8. Really good prices compared to Manhattan prices $16 and up per ticket. On a regular day prices are $8 per movie. I hope this place gets more business as I would hate to have to travel far and pay more to see movies. read more
