What a stunning theater! I enjoyed this establishment over the weekend for a concert experience, and was not disappointed one bit. There is spacious parking behind the building, which gave me great peace of mind. Getting into the building and through security was streamlined and easily manageable. The architecture and decor of the theater is so regal, I could not believe my eyes. My friend and I ordered drinks and popcorn and our bartender was very friendly and quick with service. Prices, of course, were on par with NYC theater prices (a drink costing about $25). We both loved the concert and would definitely come back here for another! read more

I visited Kings Theatre for the first time to see Jill Scott, and I came away just as impressed with the venue as I was with the concert. One thing I appreciated before I even walked in was the free parking lot behind the theater. That's such a rare perk these days and made getting there so much easier. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Every employee I encountered was friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. An usher personally walked me to my seat, and later, when I got up to throw something away, another usher kindly took the trash from me before I even reached the garbage can. It may seem like a small gesture, but it's those little touches that make a place stand out. The bathrooms were clean, there were plenty of staff members available whenever anyone needed assistance, and even guests who arrived well after the show started were escorted to their seats by ushers using flashlights. I also had a great experience at the merchandise stand. The cashier accidentally rang up two items when I only wanted one, but the mistake was corrected immediately. Instead of making me wait through a lengthy refund process, they refunded the difference in cash on the spot, which I really appreciated. Since it was a phone-free concert, I left a few minutes early to avoid the crowd retrieving their phones, and getting out was quick and easy. If you're attending a phone-free event, I'd recommend arriving a little early and leaving a few minutes before the end if you want to avoid the rush. After interacting with at least five or six different staff members throughout the evening, I couldn't help but notice how consistently well-trained and professional everyone was. Wow I can't believe it haven't written a review about this theater. I've been to many events here including concerts, plays and poetry slams. Staff is always friendly, helpful and keeps the events organized. You have to go through metal detectors. Depending on the event there could be a long line to get in. The most negative thing about this venue is parking, lol. I usually have to patk about 5 to 10 minutes away looking for street parking because its a very busy area. Overall the venue is clean and well maintained. The seats are a bit tight and very close to each other. The bathrooms are clean. They have bar and snack vendors for sale at all events. This is a theater I enjoy attending and most events tend to be very affordable. read more

Went and saw my favorite podcasters perform a live show here last night! It was my first time at this theater, and I was honestly a bit disappointed. First of all, I'm aware that it was first opened in 1929, so it's a got a lot of history as well as beautiful architecture from back then. I actually really loved the look of it (both inside and out) as they've done a pretty good job of preserving the original look and vibe of the place. However, one of the biggest flaws is that they only have ONE restroom location and it's all the down on the bottom floor... I was seated in section 12 (the highest seating in the theater), so I had to go down 2 floors to get to the restroom. This was very inconvenient as I missed a lot more of the show going down all these stairs compared to what I would've missed had they had one available on the same floor. I'm not sure if this is something they can fix or update, but it definitely should be looked into. Also, the concession lines were in a terrible spot as they got so long that it was impossible for people to pass through! It would be very easy for them to get some velvet ropes and create a sort of "Q-line" for people to snake around instead of having these tremendously long lines stretch from wall to wall of the already-somewhat-small hallway. Additionally, I got an email from Kings Theatre the day before the show telling me that they need everyone seated promptly at 6:55pm because the show will start right on time. Well, at 7:00pm the theatre was still half empty as people were still trying to make their way to their seats. The show finally started at 7:20pm... Not sure if that was because of the audience or the performers, but regardless it was frustrating, especially after getting that email. Lastly, the BIGGEST issue is that they had this one ultra-bright light at the top of the stage that faced directly into the audience....blinding myself and everyone in my section. It was AWFUL and so distracting! EVERYONE in my section was complaining about it because it was blinding us as we were trying to watch what was happening on stage. It seriously ruined the entire experience for me and is ultimately the reason for my 3-star rating. While I really enjoyed the performance I saw, I'll think twice before booking tickets here in the future... I don't think I can handle another hour-and-a-half blinding-light experience again. read more

From the breathtakingly beautiful theater to the comfortable seats to the massive bathrooms and pretty solid concessions, it was a nearly perfect experience. Walking inside and grabbing your seat feels like a Broadway kind of night. Even if you are rushing to get to your seat before missing any more of the show (raises hand) take a second to look up, it's a gorgeous space and deserves a second of appreciation. My first time at Kings Theater was for John Candy: I Like Me, an incredible documentary that I was gifted last minute tickets for. Lucky me indeed. After the movie, there was a panel discussion with Colin Hanks, Christopher Candy, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. A start studded night that now has me very interested in what else I could be seeing in this awesome space. My only complaint was the lines to actually get into the space. If you have tickets waiting at will call, arrive EARLY. We got there at about 6:45 for a 7:00 show and the line for will call was truly wrapped around the block. After about 35 minutes of waiting, we were finally in and it was smooth sailing from there. read more

Absolutely incredible. The Kings Theatre brought Avatar: The Last Airbender to life with stunning visuals, powerful vocals, and amazing choreography. Each nation's music had its own style, from Water Tribe ballads to Earth Kingdom drums, and the bending effects were jaw-dropping. We didn't buy any food at the theatre because there were a ton of restaurants nearby to eat after. The service from the ushers were great because they made sure to show us our seats and were very kind. A nostalgic, emotional (I went with a group of friends who are huge fans and they cried), and beautifully produced show. Would 100% see it again! read more

We had a great time at this historic theater. We saw the R&B singer Maxwell. He and his band put on an awesome show. King's theater takes you back in time, with its grand marquee, ornate finish work on the ceiling, large staircases, and gorgeous stage. This 1929 venue had a 95 million dollar renovation completed in 2015, and it definitely shows. If you have an opportunity to visit the King's Theatre, i highly recommend it. read more

I went to Kings Theatre in Brooklyn to see Pulp perform a few weeks ago. The venue is gorgeous inside! My husband drove us there. We thought about taking the subway, but we were both a little under the weather. Luckily we got a free parking spot in the shopping lot behind the theater. We just made sure to leave before midnight because the gate closes. Crowd control and security were great - friendly and clear with where to go, which line to follow, etc. Once through, we were able to take in with our eyes the beautiful interior of this historic building. We were in at doors, so we walked around inside and explored a bit before making our way to our seats. It's a large capacity venue. I treated my husband to a drink and $13 popcorn from one of the concession stands. The popcorn was surprisingly better than I expected; the trick is that they use coconut oil. We were seated on the lower level. We found out from one of the ushers that the upper level is really a treat to be seated in when seeing a concert (note for next time!). If you have a chance to see a performance or concert at Kings, I highly recommend it! Good A/V and overall experience! read more

While the theater itself is classy & beautiful , we were extremely disappointed by the dishonest service at the bar. During our first round, the bartender added an unordered bottle to our tab. When we caught it on the monitor and asked him to remove it, he did so without any explanation or apology. We initially thought it was a careless mistake, but it happened again on the second round with an unexplained extra $14 charge. The lack of itemized receipts and unlisted wine prices on the menu makes it very difficult to verify what you are paying for. We were even charged different prices for the same drinks on two different orders. Review your transaction on the digital screen closely before tapping to pay guys. read more

"There is ugliness in beauty" I used to enjoy this theater. Restored from the days of glory, this is a gem that truly reflects New York's age of elegance. But after 10 years it's now a pit for crass greediness and poor management. With these prices it's hard to believe it's in BK and not Dubai. As someone raised in Flatbush, I always passed by Kings Theatre whether through walking or taking a bus. So when it reopened in 2015, I was happy. There was an improv show ran by a company I follow and the ticket was cheap for a good seat. To get to the theater, you could walk from the Beverley Road B/Q train or take the local B41 to drop you right off. I walked all the way. Next to the theater is this empty lot with stanchions and a glittery glass water tower in the middle. I wondered the importance of having this space. But when I finally got into a line, I realized it kept people off the street while trying to get inside so they don't block it for people trying to pass. The streets are not that wide and there is still construction on the corner of the street where the bank used to be. The inside is as beautiful as the outside (maybe even more to be honest. While there are televisions screens present for menus and metal detectors, the place has that majestic vibe that I could imagine it having many years ago. The bag check process to get inside was quick and the people on guard were generally nice. Speaking of nice people, the staff were generally friendly. The people at the bar were knowledgeable and most screens had the options available. There were comparatively inexpensive prices for cocktails (especially in a theater space). They had the typical alcohol options (canned and mixed cocktails), nonalcoholic beverages, snacks and popcorn. A few stations had personal pizza but the line was long and the price was a little too much for me. In addition, while you were seated there were staff roving around offering snacks and additional drinks. One weird thing I like about the seats at this theater was that they have cup holders. So you are not just balancing your drink on the floor or having to hold it all the time (unless you bought multiple). There was coat check at our show but I heard it is available on a show by show basis. My experience at the show was fun. I was in the middle back so I could generally see what was going on. The audio cut out a couple of times but the improv troupe were professionals and rolled with the punches. I felt comfortable with my seat. I look forward to seeing other shows at this theater space. read more

WARNING: SCAMMED! Spent extra for Front Row Mezzanine only to find out they did not disclose the multiple rows of VIP seats. My view was blocked the entire night!!! A couple of months ago I purchased tickets for the fabulous Diana Ross. I saved up and spent extra money for front row mezzanine seats so that I would have a full view with no one in front of me. I was so excited! Imagine my surprise when I get to my seat and find out there are multiple rows of seats in front of me and my view is awful and blocked! I've included a screenshot of the ticket map from King's website. The seat I chose is circled in red. Absolutely nothing on this map indicates that my view would be obstructed by seats in front of me. It showed I would be front row mezzanine! Which was the whole reason I got the tickets. The rows of seats I discovered when I got to the concert weren't on the map at all! I'm assuming they were VIP seats, which makes the whole thing stink even more. I paid extra money to be what I thought was the front of the mezzanine only to have to look at the back of VIP's heads for the entire concert. I am so disappointed and completely confused as to how they can sell these seats without any notice that they are not front row mezzanine as indicated on their map. Such a disappointment. I had been counting down the days for this concert, to finally see the legendary Diana Ross in person, and had splurged to make sure I could get front row view without anyone in front of me. I had done everything right! What a bummer. UPDATE: I reached out to Kings and was told "it's a concert I should be used to people blocking my view." I told them the whole reason I paid extra for what I thought were front row mezzanine was so that there would not be any seats in front of me and I wouldn't have to worry about people blocking my view. I suggested they note on their website that these seats aren't true front row mezzanine and have seats in front so something like this doesn't happen but felt dismissed somewhat rudely. Just be warned that your front row mezzanine seat will be blocked by VIPs they seem to care more about. read more

Last night, I attended Matthew McConaughey's event at Kings Theatre with a friend who flew in all the way from Seattle, Washington. What a stunning space! We were greeted with warm smiles, professionalism, and a good laugh from Steven--one of the bartenders--who recommended some amazing signature cocktails. Despite the very busy (and at times impatient) crowd, Steven took the time to make us feel comfortable and at home. His energy and kindness truly stood out. Kings Theatre is located in Flatbush Brooklyn. It is a historic venue. It is such a beautiful theatre. Right when you walk into the theatre you feel like you walk into history. It is so full of red and gold. I had never known or been to this theatre until recently to see Avatar the Last Airbender with my friend. The tickets were sold out, but I managed to order a long time ago. The theatre was quite big with a lot of security. They have strict policies on no gum, beverages, and backpacks, so definitely read about their policies before you plan to go to this venue. It was well organized. I felt like they managed the crowd very well. The music was great. I love every second of the show. I would to come see another performance. read more

Stunning old theater that was resurrected after several years of neglect and decay. Audio is decent but it's a colossal venue. There's a no outside food or drink policy, including chewing gum - I imagine they want to avoid people sticking gum everywhere. Had just returned from Europe with chewing gum from the trip and was disappointed to throw it out but understood. Drinks pricing is excessive. $15 for a can of beer. Amazing artists perform here. The acoustics are terrific. And until the seats are tiered so when people stand up during the show as though we're in Prospect Park or Central Park Summerstage, those who are seated behind them, ticket prices are an unfortunate ripoff. Shouts to the ushers, particularly Carlyle, for doing their best to get thoughtless, self-centered people to sit down. It's not their fault that sucka MCs tell the audience to stand up. To audience members who act like they're in studio with or guests of the artists in their homes: Show living artists respect by buying their records instead of streaming and bootlegging, NOT talking during their live performances, and NOT filming their performances, watching through their phones, blocking people's line of sight who actually want to watch live performance, and posting them on the 'gram. You're thieves. You're greedy. You're thoughtless. read more

I visited King's Theatre for the historical tour rather than an event. Kings is one of five Loew's Wonder Theatres from the 1920s and underwent a huge renovation in the mid 2000s and has existed in its current state since 2015. The historical tour (which has an optional speakeasy component with two included drinks) is worthwhile! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about not only the theater, but was a Flatbush native who knew a lot of area history. She gave us plenty of time to view each space and take photos. We got to see the main theatre space, the mezzanine, the lounges. The architecture is grand. Flashy, golden, ornate. Lot of art deco and Louis the XIII style. Beautiful original antique furniture throughout. I purchased my ticket online for 32 dollars including a 5 dollar processing fee. These tours don't happen often, so I would check regularly! This venue also has plays, comedy, and concerts. We got to sit all over the theater and I can attest there isn't a bad seat in the house. No seats with a pole in front of you, no obstructed views. Oh, and the parking lot is under construction. I used SpotHero and parked about 1/2 a mile away and walked. I wouldn't chance street parking. I actually recommend taking public transit, but I had to drive that day. A lot of nearby businesses and restaurants, very walkable. You could make a great night out of the Flatbush era. Another important note: this theater was restored back to its original form. There is no elevator. There aren't a ton of steps, but if you have mobility issues, please be aware. There is some way they assist people who can't climb stairs, but not sure what it is. Maybe a lift? I recommend doing the tour of this prime example of a bygone era of luxury and craftsmanship and checking out some events too! read more

Kings Theatre is a standout venue in Brooklyn. The venue recently was restored and offers a variety of concerts and shows. I have been to a few concerts and shows at Kings Theatre. Entrance Service continues to improve each time I visit the venue. For sold out or busier shows, ushers/ security generally have guests line up in the open lot next to the venue to go through the security scanner and scan tickets. Security is friendly and efficient. However, one weird quirk is that the venue does not allow gum... so if it's in your purse or pocket toss it before you get there! Ushers are all around to help guide you to your seat. Food/Bev It has a few bars on each level. It has an array of beverages. It's on the pricier side, but that's to be expected. For snacks, it has popcorn, chocolate and other candies. It's sort of strange to have a whole chocolate bar at a concert, but it tasted good! Ambiance The theatre itself is beautiful. The seats are a bit clustered so if you're in the middle of a row, I recommend heading to the basement bathroom before or after the show. The basement doesn't have phone service, so that's a bit annoying but they do have wifi. Cleanliness While the venue itself was decently clean: bathrooms were clean, bars were tidy, I could NOT get over how grossly sticky the floors in the theatre were. Eek! Overall Kings Theatre continues to improve! Will hopefully be back. read more

Went on the Historic Kings Theatre tour. I had been in the theatre for events, but it was nice to see it empty to allow time to admire the restoration. It was advertised as a 1-hour tour, but it took 1:45. Had the narrative been more practiced and streamlined, it could fit into 1 hour, which was frustrating. Nevertheless, it was informative. This theater is beautiful and has incredible acoustics, which means you don't have to buy tickets in the front to hear and see well. I was a bit frustrated last time we went, because children's tickets should not cost the same as adults ($140 for a toddler is steep), and snacks were pricier than usual, but they do have better options than most venues. The bathroom line moved very quickly and the theater was extremely clean. I also thought the concession lines were efficient and everyone who works there were friendly. read more

A friend told me to try and check out Kings Theatre even if there is no performance available because it is absolutely stunning. We had an opportunity to see Liz Phair there last month and my friend was right! It is gorgeous! We sat in the mezzanine and had a great view. We noticed that everyone on the ground floor stood the entire concert even though they had seats so we were happy to sit where we were. The acoustics were good and the staff were friendly. So why knock one star off? While the high cost of drinks was expected, it is really disappointing that there is no water fountain available for guests. I had a wonderful time at the King's Theatre for the Arctic Monkeys concert. It was an intimate venue -- perfect for the special no-phones concert. Once I got there, I had to wait in line, and it was an organized process to get in. The staff was helpful with security, locking away our phones, servicing, and bathroom organization. The interior was beautiful, and the Arctic Monkeys utilized the theatre's decor to give the romantic, haunted feel. Plus, I enjoyed hearing four new songs from their album before it came out! Let's talk about the seats, I am glad I got a physical seat. I was down on the first floor, and I could sit & still see if I needed a break from standing. If you are traveling on the train, it is a bit of a walk from the train to the theatre. Some of the walk is not in well-lit areas. Luckily there was a bunch of concert-goers making their way in packs down to the show and back to the train. read more

What a venue! My friend and I came to see Dreamcatchers and it was a blast. We had no idea how this unassuming theatre from the outside was so opulent and stunning inside. As a chronic over preparer who didn't bring a purse it was unfortunate to have to empty every single thing out of my pockets. (Wallet, keys, eyedrops, chapstick, hand sanitizer, eye glass cloth) I totally get why but it wasn't the most clear when going through security. Also loved their lemonade and popcorn! Incredible venue but Ambassador Speakeasy access was way too expensive Ill start out with the good because that is all 5 stars: The venue was beautiful and great acoustics. The service was probably the best I have ever experienced in a venue that sized. Friendly, engaged and helpful. I got there about 10 minutes before doors open to find parking in the back. The VIP speak easy access was a disappointment (service was still good tho). Taking one star off for this. If I had to rate the Ambassador package separately, it would be only 1 or 2 stars. The Access package included expedited entrance - was great. Speakeasy access with seating and tables - "speakeasy" is a stretch. It was in view of the rest of the venue. it is literally a section of the upper level of the theatre with a roped off area. Cocktails - this is a big rub for me. I usually go to get a good drink or two before a concert and dont mind paying for quality. At the speakeasy, there were no cocktails only liquor with mixers. The selection of liquor was OK, but i paid $40 for a double premium vodka and club with lime. the lime juice was bottled and pretty yuk. its the same pricepoint as a martini in Bemelmans...wtf. Private bathrooms - very nice. ***net-net is I would love to come back to Kings Theatre, but will not be taking advantage (or being taken advantage of) the Ambassador Speakeasy package. read more

I must admit that I don't get to the beautiful Kings Theatre as often as I'd like to and can really only pay a visit if one of the artists I plan on writing about will be dropping into the place and I've worked out the necessary permissions to do that stuff that I do. That being said, the legendary Mercyful Fate were going to perform and since I had to arrive early I took the train. The ride wasn't as bad as I anticipated and was the R to the Q to a maybe ten minute walk before you were looking directly at the place. The venue marquee is beautiful and the inside is just magnificent. For this show they had removed several sections of seating to allow for a GA area for fans to mingle and maybe even mosh about but truth be told the Mercyful Fate stuff is not mosh music. That was better set on the supporting acts of Kreator and Midnight who were both very enjoyable. The seats if you actually had one are quite comfortable. I took advantage of that when it was possible but in reality I needed to be on my feet for most of the night. Patrons do need to pass through a metal detector because that is where the world is these days and I don't mind extra security precautions at all since I am usually at large public gatherings and I'd rather be safe than sorry. They had set up the merchandise right after these stations and there are bars set up on the main floor and down in the lower level. I didn't make it upstairs at all but I will assume there is a bar or two up there as well. The restrooms appear to only be located downstairs but again this I cannot confirm as there wasn't much exploring time on my schedule. One of the cool sights on the main floor is their vintage organ. It was roped off to prevent anyone from touching it but wow would I love to hear this being played. I can only imagine how great it sounds in this really acoustically well set up theatre. There is no public accessible WiFi which I found to be a bit of a bugaboo but maybe if enough patrons cite its need they will work on getting one. Maybe a sponsor company can also offer this gratis. Sure many of us have unlimited but I don't so I like to snag a signal when possible. Oh yeah and my Mercyful Fate show was simply overwhelming. All of the performers were on point and King Diamond (their lead singer) was in top shape vocally and brought the house down. I'm unsure when I will be at this place again but I'd like to for sure. Everything you want in a classic historical theater. No bad seats. Sound quality was good. Attended two nights of The Avett brothers with seats in different parts of the venue. No complaints. It's a gorgeous theater with unique carvings and accents. Seats were comfy even as a plus size gal. Staff was welcoming. Didn't make entry overly difficult. Bar lines were relatively short. Theatre itself was good, but the area it's in is SUPER SKETCHY so I would probably avoid going there by myself as a girl late at night for a show. Fortunately we went during early afternoon and there were a bunch of families there, but our center-front seats (orchestra section) had a great view and the sound was good as well. Security moved people along promptly upon arrival. Bathrooms are downstairs and easy enough to access. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to go there for another show again, but if you do and you're driving, the only few "Decent" parking garages are still a 15+ min walk away so plan accordingly. read more
