Despite moving nearly 30 miles away, I still make the drive to Kentlands Vet for my dog. The team take good care of him and are thorough in their annual examinations. Today I took him for his annual wellness exam and did a blood draw to be sent to CVCA since he has heart murmurs. They detailed his current condition and also informed me on some preventative measures. With the newly renovated office, it's great to see their transformation and growing team. I was in a patient room that had fun cat memorabilia and even a sound machine for those nervous pets. They really do put pets first! read more

A big round of thanks to Dr. Stotz for treating Hermoine today. Our regular vet is sick with Covid. So, I asked my son where he takes his dog and he recommended Kentland's Veterinary Hospital. Hermoine had an abrasion on her back, which was getting worse, because she was licking it. Dr. Stotz was warm and welcoming. She has a great bedside manner with her patients. She communicates well with adults too and explained each step, as we went through the process. I really liked her. Hermoine got an antibiotic shot and some topical medication. The veterinary hospital is clean and full of pet decorations. They are in the process of adding more rooms. Healthcare is expensive, even for pets. But, as my mom would say," You get what you pay for." And, Hermoine was well taken care of. Thank you Dr. Stotz and the rest of the friendly staff at Kentland's Animal Hospital. read more

They are really good at accommodating same day sick requests. They also have a wonderful PT dept who have helped many of our older pets when they have had joint issues. we took our dog there for nine years, since we first got him as a puppy. were happy with the practice until Dr. Handel moved away and it was sold to some nameless, faceless investor group. Vibe changed, level of personal attention decreased, prices went up. Techs would appear from behind a door, take your dog, disappear with your dog back behind the door, all very robotically/impersonally. What finally led us to leave was this. We took our dog for round of vaccinations, which cost more than $400. When we called to make the appointment and they asked what else we wanted done, we mentioned a small growth on his eyelid they had seen before and asked them to eyeball it again to see if it looked like it was getting larger and could or should be removed. We reminded them of this when the tech took him back behind the door to be "processed" as they now do. When they brought him back out, I asked whether they looked at the growth on his eyelid. They said no, and if we wanted that they would have to charge us for an exam. (If I recall correctly, the standard fee for "exam" -- added on as part and parcel of any service you get there where a doctor (not a tech) is involved -- is about $100.) I said to forget it and walked out the door, deciding right then and there to finally change practices. (People in our neighborhood had been making similar observations on the neighborhood FB page about service/care/prices at KVH changing negatively over the last year.) The notion that they couldn't just look quickly at something readily visible without charging more, over and above the $400 I just spent, was really poor, callous customer relations -- particularly with a client the women at the front desk knew had been going to them for years. read more

I begin going to Kentlands veterinary on 2010 for my baby Maxx when and when I got our second dog on 2021 it was no other place I will take my new baby. Dc. Handle was Maxx doctor till the day he cross the rainbow bridge last October at 16 years old and now that I have move to Frederick I will not change to another vet. They always treat us with kindness and respect and show support and interest on any issues we had . Sometimes is not about the money and how much you pay, is about the integrity and honesty you can get from someone that understands that little being that can't talk for it self and need the care to get better. We have now been coming to Kentlands Veterinary Hospital for some time now and I thought it's a good occasion to write an updated review. My little one began having a hot spot on her chest and I had to make an appointment with an assumption that there probably won't be anything available until next week. Nope. I was able to schedule an appointment the next day with Dr Reitz and I trotted in and out of there in less than 10+ minutes. Did I tell you the appointment was completed before my actual appointment time with zero wait time? It's incredible how well coordinated this office is. From the front desk to the LVTs and DVMs you see here, it always blows my mind away every time. Why can't there be more veterinarian offices like this?!?! I also appreciate the zero fear approach the office takes. My younger beagle is very skittish and shy with strangers but she never has issues visiting this office. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate recommending this office to anyone. read more

When I was calling around to Veterinarians close to me today to try and find someone to administer Toast's Bordatella vaccine... the first call I put in was to the Quince Orchard Veterinary Hospital. Their reviews skewed a BIT higher than Kentlands Veterinary, but they were booked out for ANY appointments until January 25th - even a really quick vaccine appointment. The second call I made was to Kentlands Veterinary. Ya know what they said? Are you available at 5:15pm? I was like... uh YES! Well, after having visited, I completely understand how they can do this. They got my baby IN and out. The efficiency in their operation is impressive to say the very least. You can't go inside the practice right now. There's a table in front of the door. So you get there, call a phone number and the receptionist takes some preliminary info. She was like... ok, we'll be out to get French toast in just a bit. Almost as soon as I hung up the phone... there was a vet tech waiting next to my car to take the pup in. It was like she had aparated to my position. She took Toast, marched her inside and off into an exam room... about 5-7 minutes later I get a call from the Veterinarian. I chat on the phone with the doctor for about 10 or so minutes... they give her the bordatella vaccine... and she's out. The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes. It was like Henry Ford decided to set up a veterinary clinic. The efficiency was shocking (in the best way) I obviously wish I could have gone in there with her to see how everything was done. But she came out seemingly happy as a clam. And obviously with Covid- I don't blame them at all. She goes back to get more vaccine re-ups in February. Definitely feel good about taking her back here. Kentlands Veterinary Hospital is the best veterinary hospital I've ever been to. For most of my Pomeranian's (sadly short) life, I chose them over the vet hospital that took care of my dog as a puppy because they are so, so kind. My dog had many health issues, which scared me as a recent high school graduate because of the cost, but mainly because I cared for my dog and hated seeing him hurt. They went above and beyond for me. Here's just one example that stands out to me: I was in my kitchen and let my dog out, and a few minutes later, my dog was yelping in pain. I saw that he was trying to go to the bathroom, but something was wrong. I called the vet and told them what happened and that he was yelping in a way I've never heard before. They set me up for an appointment 30 minutes later. I had no car at the time, so I carried my dog 20 minutes into town, and they saw me immediately. They looked him over and gave me pain medication and a laxative for him, and then they saved his backside and cleaned him up. After paying the bill (which wasn't pricey considering what just happened), it was closing time and they offered me a ride home because I was only 8 minutes away if they drove me home. They didn't want me to walk 20 minutes back carrying my dog. I accepted the ride and years later, I'm still enterally grateful. A few years ago, I told them that my dog passed away from autoimmune anemia at my uncle's house after starting my first semester at college and the receptionist (I don't know her name) remembered me and my dog and mourned with me for a few minutes over the phone before stating she would do what needed to be done with his paperwork. I don't live in Maryland anymore and I don't have any pets at the moment, but the kindness that was shown to me and my dog at this veterinary hospital sticks with me to this day. read more

I took my cat to this clinic for about bite wound . I was seen by dr Stotz . She went in the room and he said anything text for 10 seconds she felt her and she failed to acknowledge 3 bite wounds at each of her side. The exam was not very thorough and treatment was not done properly at this facility. She casually suggested an antibiotic shot but she said due to no wound found it's not necessary. 3 days later my cat developed an abscess and she is dying now. I would completely avoid Dr stotz while the entire staff clinic is very friendly and very helpful for taking me in an emergency but I have no faith in that doctor and I do not believe any pet should be subjected to her negligence read more

They could improve by being honest with their customers. We've been taking our dog to them for over a year to address issues she's been having with her skin and it's as if they're doing nothing but throwing things at the wall to see if it sticks. We've been up-sold and misled seemingly at every turn and yet our dog still has issues. First it was allergies, and they sold us overpriced medication that we found cheaper elsewhere. Then it was that she needed an allergy test, so we do that, pay for it, and pay for drops that....you guessed it, didn't work. Then it's she needs a "skin test", which again, if that was the case why make us go through months of our dog being in agony before recommending this? The answer? Money. This place is a racket whose sole goal is to squeeze every dime it can out of a pet owner. Every medication and shampoo they offer can be found at a fraction of the price online, so please don't buy it from them. Despite them seeing our dog for over a year they've been no help minus making me a lot lighter in the wallet. They've charged us for exams we didn't ask for, for exams we explicitly told them we didn't want, and today charged us and refuse to refund us for allergy drops we've yet to pick up and explained to them don't work. Here we are though, being squeezed one last time. I'm done after today. I'll find a clinic that cares about its customers outside of bleeding them dry. I have been taking my pets (2 cats) to Kentlands Veterinary since I first got my first cat a couple years ago. Over the course of needing the initial check up after his adoption and then addressing some minor health issues I had ended up taking him to a couple different vets in the area before finally finding and deciding on sticking with Dr. Handel. He really cares about animals and truly understands their needs better than any doctor I have ever seen - human or animal Dr. Everyone at the clinic is incredibly nice and careful with your pets and the doctors are all very knowledgeable and will discuss all available treatment options before pushing for any extreme and expensive tests and treatments. We have been going to Kentlands Veterinary since we moved to Gaithersburg 1 year ago, and I cannot recommend them enough. My dogs have monthly visits for nail trims, and other routine things. My dogs recently got into a skirmish over Christmas which resulted in a tear to my sweet Bobby's eyelid. Dr. Handel had to surgically repair Bobby's eyelid, and did a top-notch job on it. This is our third day post-surgery and I am noticing already how seamlessly his eyelid has been sutured. I am so grateful to have such talented doctors for my babies right around the corner from our house. We also have a 12 year old Maine Coon mix who has to come in from time to time because he's developed IBS in his old age. The staff is always super responsive and helpful when it's time to refill his medication, and I appreciate that they are always on top of things. Dr. Reitz usually sees Monty and always knows what to recommend for his ailments (recently, we found he was suffering from arthritis when he had been limping on a rear leg). Again, my heart is full of gratitude that I am able to have such excellent medical services available to my fur babies in such close proximity to my home. We had previously used Atlas vet in DC for years, which I also highly recommend but it is too far from our new home after our last move, and I was very nervous about switching. My experience with Kentlands Vet has been excellent, though, and I would recommend this clinic to anyone without hesitation. read more

I've been bringing my pup here since he was 8 weeks old and so far have brought him in for annual wellness exams, vaccine appointments, microchip and his neuter surgery. Everything went well and my dog was seen in a timely manner. Dr. Handel is great. He's super knowledgeable and it's reassuring to feel like he cares about my dog and answering all of my questions. Kentlands Veterinary Hospital not only got in me in within the next hour but they offered to collect my dog's records from our previous veterinarian for me. They also took me back to see my dog's x-rays so that I could understand what they were doing and I had a chance to look at what they were looking at. This hospital saved two of my dogs that have become strickened with serious health issues as they've aged. One 14-year-old Shih Tzu Mixed and a 15-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier. When I transferred to Kentlants Vet, the Shitzu was extremely ill, and just recently, my big boy became ill. Things were looking pretty questionable! Today my little one runs after everything, and my big boy breathes and sleeps without struggle. The staff at the desk are unbelievably amazing. No matter how many times I've called, it never seems to be too much. They always are courteous, polite, very helpful, and understanding. I have been taking my dog for a year to this vet. Recently he was due for a vaccine which I proceeded to take him in for his scheduled shot. Once I dropes him off and without authorization they decided to go and do 3 other tests that he was not scheduled for. He ended up going for a 33 dollar vaccine and came out with a Bill over 200 dollars. Front desk staff is completely useless and proceeded to blame me saying I authorized the exams. The doctor never has time to meet you and answer questions. I highly recommend people to take their pets somewhere that's has more respect for the paying customer and that they also don't try to scam you. read more

Money hungry and unhelpful. I called in today for an apt for my 16 year old dog who has been a patient there since he was a puppy. My dog has always had allergies and has received an injection to help with itching about two or three times now. There is nothing new going on. When i found out that i wasn't allowed in with my dog for his apt due to COVID i was second guessing if i should take him in because he has separation anxiety and is old. I didn't want him to be stressed. I was contemplating all my options so I asked the receptionist if she could ask the doctor if they had any advice for itching such as oatmeal baths, some sort of spray from the pet store, change in diet, etc. She came back on the line and told me they couldn't offer any advice to me without a physical assessment. You mean you can't give me FREE advice... If i called my pediatrician for a child with a fever they would tell you to take Tylenol. It's obvious they were being difficult and just wanted me to come in to give them money. I should have changed vets the day dr Handel told me my dog has a heart murmur and that his dog died from a heart murmur and heart failure and laughed it off. I found the staff here to be unfriendly and preoccupied each time I brought my cat in for a visit. I switched vet offices because my last visit convinced me that they were more concerned with how to charge me more money that how to do the right thing for my cat. I actually had to correct one of the Drs who failed to read my cat's chart after she suggested unnecessary procedures and told me my cat was "young" (when in fact during her previous visit she had geriatric tests done because she is 10). I am giving two stars because I did like Dr. Handel. Unfortunately the other members of his staff ruined my experience. We have since switched veterinarians. read more

I want to point that medical staff is beyond professional and my pet got an excellent attention. During my last visit, we took our pet for grooming (nails). We noticed they increased the grooming price an extra 25% within the last 3 months. When we asked why they did it, they told us it was because of Covid-19. If it was a food business, I would understand it to cover PPE cost. Several local business in the area have been hit by covid-19, and if they would have increased their prices, costumers would not have came back. read more

We have three rabbits and one is a rescue rabbit who has teeth and ear problems. We started going to Kentlands Veterinary Hospital in October 2011 after trying two other "exotic" vets over four years. We were impressed by the staff, particularly Dr. Handel and his compassion towards the animals. Our previous vet treated our rescue bun as a number and cash cow. Every time we would think the rabbit is in pain we would bring her in to get her teeth looked at. Even if nothing was done we would get charged $75 for a full exam. Kentlands Veterinary Hospital is not that way at all. It was reassuring to know if we thought something may be off we could get it checked out and not be out an exorbitant amount of money. He explains what the options are and will patiently answer all your questions. It is a small place with only two exam rooms and two vets (and a cat with one eye!) but I've never had a problem getting an appointment. We've been very happy with Kentlands Veterinary Hospital and happy to have found a vet who wants to make sure the animal is happy/healthy and not just clinically ok. read more

After doing a lot of research for the perfect place in our area, we brought our dog here for oral care. We knew he would need a deep clean or maybe some extractions, so I kept putting it off because I didn't want him to go under anesthesia. I was such a nervous wreck the week leading up to the appointment. The moment I walked in I felt so much better because the receptionist were all so friendly. After meeting with the doctor I felt even better! The DR was so knowlegable and answered all my crazy questions! He also kept he updated during surgery up until I was able to pick up my baby. We just moved to Gaithersburg from DC and were excited to see that there is a vet clinic so close to our new house. We took our two boy cats in for a check-up and shots yesterday, and had a great experience. We got there about 30 minutes before our appointment, but were immediately shown into an exam room. The vet was professional and kind (even when one of our cats decided to become devil cat and growled/hissed/shrieked nonstop). He gave us some advice on how to get devil cat to lose weight without trying to push expensive treatments on us. We will be taking our dog in tomorrow and are looking forward to another positive experience! (I will up this from 4 to 5 stars once we have more than one visit under our belts). read more

So I initially gave this place a hasty five (five!) stars after they accommodated a late-afternoon visit for a sick dog, and I really liked Dr. Reitz. Unfortunately the love affair lasted for that one visit. When I began bringing a chronically ill dog there, treatment with the other doctor was hesitant, uncertain, indecisive. The dog suffered for months on a "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" regimen of medications, and ended up dying at home, terrified and in pain. That was it for me, we were done with Kentlands Vet. Fast forward 1 1/2 years. Other dog has an emergency, and our new vet is away. Rather than going to the ER vet, we went to Kentlands. The treatment was fine, although awkward (it's clear this doctor is wary of me since the last dog's issues and my obvious upset). I pick the dog up and the bill is much higher than the estimate. I ask why and the receptionist says "probably his medications". I agree to pay it. I then ask to see the statement, and I had multiple charges for essentially the same service, and which were not previously discussed with me. (When vet called me, "dog was doing great", no discussion of change in plans). And, there were no medications, so I was misled about why the bill was what it was. Vet tech looks at it and agrees it was essentially a double-charge and agrees to credit me- but manager overrides her. Ask for manager to call, (she was off site), never recieve a call, get charged anyways. Called again this week, no return call. I've had to dispute this with the bank. I don't think the care here is necessarily bad but it certainly could have been better with my last dog. My problem is the deceit, overcharging, failure to return calls on the business end. The manager is awful and they should be utterly ashamed of taking advantage of people especially in difficult times involving a sick pet. TL, DR: Vet is indecisive. Care is OK but you'll find better. Business end is utterly atrocious. Manager is wretched. The bill always seems to have easter eggs hidden in it. Also way too expensive. (My puppy's spay at a better facility in the area cost about 2/3 of what I was estimated here...) I invite the office to contact me and discuss this. But they won't. read more

**Update** We have been continuing hydrotherapy for Alex for about a year now. And Jess and the wonderful staff has continued to work wonders on my boy! I firmly believe that without them and the magic wand that Jess has in her possession, Alex would not have gotten this far. She works with him each week and was there for me when he tore his other acl. She came up with a plan to help him "get back on his feet" and worked with him until he did just that. Everyone there loves animals. They love Alex. I truly can't ask for anything more than that. We stared coming here about 8 months ago when my 11 year old mastiff mix was diagnosed with a partial ACL tear. After seeing a specialist, we were referred to Jessica for physical thearpy. This thearpy has been night and day difference for him. It has also really helped his arthritis. The staff is very nice,warm and welcoming. They all know who Alex is when he walks in the door. He is like Norm from cheers. Alex knows what days he goes to his "spa" day and gets soooo excited when we get there! Last time I picked him, he saw me and pushed the door open and went back to his room. Lol that's how you know he feels comfortable. read more

I wish there is zero star because they are completely inexperienced with guinea pigs. I took my guinea pig to them for a check-up when he almost stopped eating hay. Dr. Stephanie Reitz said he was doing very well, suggested me to buy different hay and charged me 75 dollars. After one week, my guinea pig cannot walk or eat or drink. I took him to Dr. Reitz again and she made no conclusion and suggested me to do blood test and Xray. I didn't, instead I took him to another vet. The vet immediately diagnosed a mass in his belly and used ultra sound to confirm. We eventually have to put him in euthanasia because he was too weak and suffering. If Dr. Reitz found what was wrong with my guinea pig during the first check-up, we at least could spend more time with him and properly say good-bye to him, but we didn't have the chance. My only suggestion is that don't take your guinea pig to them, not just Dr. Reitz, but any vet there. They may claim one of them is better but they just shouldn't let any one go out to practice when they don't have the ability. read more
