Today I had an urgent situation with my cat. My regular vet is closed on weekends, so I came here because it's within walking distance, as I don't have a car. I arrived early and apologized for it when I came in--I would rather be early than late--but the receptionist seemed annoyed. I had previously explained that I didn't have my cat's records on hand, but that she has a history of chronic UTIs. I was told that without records, she would need a rabies vaccine, and I agreed to that without hesitation. The only documentation I was able to find between getting off work and going to the appointment was an email showing she was due for her vaccine about a month ago. I understand that this isn't official documentation, but they continued to emphasize that they needed her history. If she was going to get the shot regardless I don't understand why they had such an attitude about it. We were there for a completely unrelated emergency situation. The overall interaction came across as unfriendly and unwelcoming. In an already stressful situation, I did not feel confident or comfortable with the level of care or communication. Any business with reception knows they make or break your business. I have only seen the vet their once before. When my mom was alive she took her cat there. I don't even know why i tired because his medical advice for her cat at the time was terrible. She clearly has FHS and they had No idea!!!! I will not be returning read more

My experiences at this vet range between ok and great. No major complaints except the cost. This is the most expensive vet I've been to in the area and every time I go to settle the bill after an appointment I have a mini heart attack. Rehabilitation - pets can truly benefit from it (for various reasons, as people do), and I had the great good fortune to get the highly recommended rehab and recovery services at MBVC for my 11-year-old sheltie, Gabriel (who, when only 3 years old, was diagnosed with a degenerative joint disease). Gabriel had a severe limp and very tight tendons, due in part to a large tumor that had developed under his front left armpit. He was swelled with osteoarthritis. That was April 2022. Now Gabriel - after a thorough initial assessment and development of his own customized rehabilitation program including targeted exercises/stretching, ultra-sound, laser therapy, hydrotherapy, surgery in August to remove the tumor, and additional post-surgery rehab - is a new dog - his old self - dropped a few pounds (physically) and a few years (psychologically). The. Best. Christmas. Ever. Remarkable is the only word that truly describes his transformation. Grateful is only one of many words to describe my admiration and appreciation for Katie (Gabriel's rehab coach and counselor), and Dr. Lisa Challberg (Gabriel's rehab vet). Given Gabriel's disease, he will require "maintenance" rehab which he gladly looks forward to getting from his MBVC team for years to come. Gabriel's situation is one of those exceptions that proves the rule. Rehabilitation, one-time or several, short- or long-term, for any given injury or issue, can restore and reinvigorate your precious one - and they can't do it by themselves. So, if you're sweet love needs it, I strongly encourage you to give them the gift of rehab from MBVC - it will be the best investment you'll ever make in the care and comfort of your best friend! read more

Last week I had one of the hardest days of my life when I had to put down my brotha from anotha motha, Odysseus. I was a mess and I still cannot really think about it too much, but the staff did all they could to make this experience quick and easy. They fit me in the day I called during a time when I could get away from work. They let me stay with Ody and hold him during the whole process. I began coming to muddy branch vet for my puggle in 2016. He has always seen Dr. Emily Cromwell. She has the sweetest demeanor. Derby is always a little nervous when visiting the vet but she and the staff have won over his heart. I took Derby in recently due to injuries he received at boarding. I was immediately greeted by the front desk staff. She weighed him and escorted us to the exam room. Mattie came in and asked the required questions. When she left the room she heard Derby barking. She brought in a blue tooth speaker playing soft music (music therapy). He calmed down a great deal. On this particular visit, Mattie advised me that Derby would be seeing a different vet. I was not pleased to hear this. I only waited for the scheduled appt. time to see Dr. Cromwell. She saw my dismay and took it upon herself to ask Dr. Cromwell if she could see Derby even though she had a full schedule. She said there wasn't any guarantees but she would try. I was very appreciative. A few minutes later, to my delight Dr. Cromwell walked into the room. Derby and I were both happy. She is so good with him. She examined him, played with him, talked to him and gave him treats. In conclusion, she gave us an antibiotic for Derby's eye, take away instructions, and left us feeling relieved about our visit. An update to my previous post from four days ago. In summary, our dog, in fact, did not have a tumor and we avoided a very costly and unnecessary surgery, and a long recovery with possible complications. I ended up taking my dog to Bennett Creek Animal Hospital in Clarksburg, and was fortunate enough to have an appointment with a surgeon, Dr. Walcoff. He looked at the lump and noticed that it was still oozing and infected-looking. He suspected that it was a very infected and inflamed anal gland, and didn't want to jump to a tumor--I explained what our previous vet had said and that she wanted to do surgery without diagnostic testing--especially from only looking at it. He took Pepper back and was able to squeeze some of the fluid out. He reported back that he thought there was more to remove but that it was very thick, so he wanted to sedate her, clean out the lump, and inject it with antibiotics. After about an hour, Pepper was still woozy but the lump did look smaller, which was good. She had a rough evening, but woke up much perkier. It has been two days and she is looking and feeling really good. The best part is that at her appointment the Dr. did a cytology that he sent out for review. I received a call today to let us know that after assessing the sample, there is no tumor, just a lot of inflammation. If we hadn't trusted our instincts and advocated for our pet, she would have had an unnecessary surgery, potential complications, and a long recovery. read more

Absolutely WONDERFUL! Everyone at Muddy Branch Vet Center was caring and kind - the receptionist, the vet tech PJ, and the amazing Dr. Owens. This was the first time that we've used their services, and they were able to get our cat, Tux, an appointment for the very next day. After Tux's brother, Coco, passed away in January, we were very nervous to try yet another vet. All of the previous vets that we took Coco to were terrible. We feel so blessed to have found Dr. Owens and the team at Muddy Branch because we didn't want Tux to receive the horrible care Coco had to endure from other vets. I am completely dissatisfied With the way they treated my pet and I. My dog has had a history of UTI and there is a specific antibiotic that works for her. my usual vet was not available, so I brought her to this vet for the first time. Unfortunately, this was a terrible and costly experience for us. We even provided the necessary office notes from a previous vet showing the specific antibiotic that works. However, vet prescribes another antibiotic that doesn't work and then refuses to prescribe the only antibiotic that has worked for her. Not only did the medication not work for my dog, but the vet then assumed we can pay hundreds of dollars MORE in testing (after already spending hundreds of dollars). I had later called complaining about how dissatisfied I was with the vet and at this point I just want to get the antibiotic that typically works for my dog. I asked to speak to a manager but I never got a call back! It's been a week now. So unprofessional ! I understand that having a pet can be costly, but a compassionate vet should at least be mindful that not everyone can spend large amounts of money to treat their pet. The vet really was expecting for us to pay nearly $1000 to treat a UTI while also disregarding her past history of the effective treatment that was given by my previous vet . I work in medicine, and this is not the way to treat patients or their loved ones! Shameful ! read more

Go to CARING HANDS ANIMAL HOSPITAL instead!!!! This review is based on my experience with this veterinary center. The reason for my visit was for my concern of the hard lump on my labradoodle's head and wanted an answer. The vet was Lisa Chalberg. The wait time was about 30 minutes after the appointment. The main talk was about vaccinations and flea+ tick preventatives. I made it well known the priority for the visit was his hard lump. Chalberg didn't have an answer of what the lump on his head was. She put him on antibiotics for one month and recommended a recheck up once his antibiotics were done. I returned for the recheck. There was no change in his lump at all. After a failed needle test, Chalberg "guessed" the lump could be a cyst or a bug bite infection. I felt a little relieved that it wasn't a tumor. After the visit, I paid for all the vaccinations she recommend and a different set of expensive antibiotics. She wrote down under his profile that the next step would be to continue the antibiotics or surgically remove. After the ten days, I didn't notice much improvement but since she had already recommended continuing pills or surgery I decided for my dog to continue for ten more days to see if there will be a greater change in the size of the lump. She denied my initial request for a refill because she wanted to "see" the lump (meaning I'd be charged $55 just for her to "see" it) We spoke on the phone, after explaining to her what we had talked about, she agreed to writing the perception with a cost, a fee! My choices were, a recheck, or a fee. I felt extremely taken advantage of. It became clear that they care about their profits before your pet. I agreed to the fee, and she denied the request a second time recommending he needs a recheck. After speaking to the front desk, I was told a manager would contact me later that day to resolve the issue. I was not contacted. Instead I visited CARING HANDS ANIMAL HOSPITAL. My labradoodle was seen quickly by the vet. We decided to do a cytology test of the lump. The next day I received a call from my vet with the factual results of what the lump is. With the recommendations of our new vet, Dr Han, my labradoodle's lump has gotten much smaller in size in just 4 days!! I could not be happier with my decision to leave Muddy Branch Vet and take my business to CARING HANDS ANIMAL HOSPITAL. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Dr. Katz is arrogant, self- righteous, and obnoxiously condescending. I generally try to avoid scheduling appointments with him because he's truly insufferable. He shoves medicine down your throat that he clearly only promotes because pharmaceutical companies are paying him to, he gets defensive if you dare question his diagnoses or treatment plans, he talks too much and doesn't listen. Dr. Cornwell overcharges even more than Dr. Katz but is just as good at diagnosing issues that don't exist. The only vet they've ever had there who was worth seeing was Dr. Lowenthal, who wisely moved to Falls Road Vet in 2016. I regret not following her then. Most recently, we brought our dog in for an ear infection. We left with 6 prescriptions and a $683 bill. We were finally at our breaking point with the pricing and ask for our dogs' records. 3 days later, our dog was throwing up 3-6 times a day, hardly eating, wouldn't go on walks, and I actually thought (still think) he was dying from all the meds. Needless to say, we stopped the treatment plan and asked to speak with a doctor. When we spoke to Dr. Katz about our dog's condition, he provided enlightening information about the correlation of our dog's condition to our poor dog ownership abilities and then asked why we were even calling since we already asked for our records. He has zero respect for his customers or concern for his patients. Spare your animal's life and your wallet....DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS TO MUDDY BRANCH VET!! read more

I brought new kittens to this vet, and they absolutely messed everything up. First, they over-aged my kittens by about 2-3 weeks. Usually not a big deal, but when they're receiving vaccinations at 5 weeks instead of 8, it's concerning. They informed us the kittens were 8 weeks, when in fact, their baby teeth had barely come in and they were still wobbly and falling over when walking. Next, they said the kittens had fleas, that they'd treat the fleas and sent us home. 6 weeks later, my home is infested. When brought back to the vet, they said "They must've been outside or something" and took none of the blame - they were never outside. THEN there is no history of flea medication in their system. Next, they administer Revolution but say one of the kittens doesn't weigh enough? But jokes on me! Because according to her paperwork, she does weigh enough! So they sent her home without lasting flea treatment, while the other kitten received it. Lastly, they sent all of my emails to a different email (understandable mistake), but once fixed and asked to resend emails (medical histories), they only ended up sending the medical history of one kitten... but I have two kittens. Overall just a terrible experience. I understand Covid protocols make things different, but I didn't even have the opportunity to speak with the doctors treating my kittens, only the people at the front desk, and only over the phone. Honestly, I feel uncomfortable having this clinic in my community, knowing that people I know bring their pets here and trust that they are getting top notch care. Also, after scrolling the other poor reviews, when they receive one, they promptly apologize, then go on to share medical records of that owners pet over yelp to prove that they were correct in some way? Absolutely not. If they cannot accept a poor review over a website, I will be spreading poor reviews by word of mouth. PLEASE, PLEASE do not take your pet here. read more

Many of the area practices do not deal with this condition, and some had never heard of it. The MBVC team not only knew what it was, but have treated other pets with great success. Haven't Yelped in a while. Today, we needed to take Mom's cat in. Today ended up being his last day in earth. I live on the other side of the country. Here to visit family. Glad that there is Yelp. Everyone in the clinic were courteous and caring. They even were able to fit in a last minute, same day visit. The clinic does the blood test onsite. Confirming why he wasn't feeling well. with severe ulcer's in the mouth, kidney failure, and liver going. It was sad to see him go. Pickle, thank you for everything. GO TO KENTLANDS VETERINARY HOSPITAL. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I just moved here from Texas and I happened to have an emergency with my dog. I brought my dog here first because they had good reviews, I tried to call, twice (per their instructions for an emergency on their website) but no one answered so I drove over. When I arrived their receptionist-Gabby-was completely rude and cold to me. She said that there was no way she could help me because I wasn't already a customer, I asked if I could become a customer and she said I could-in two weeks, (which obviously doesn't work for me because I was having an emergency and she knew that). I left this place crying because of how shockingly rude, cold and uninterested in helping me the receptionist was and my husband called in to discuss with the manager. The manager called me per my husband's request to discuss my experience, she was very apologetic and nice on the phone. I do however think that I should still share my experience with this place because as soon as I left I was greeted very warmly by the Kentlands Veterinary Hospital. Kentlands Veterinary Hospital not only got in me in within the next hour but they offered to collect my dog's records from our previous veterinarian for me. They also took me back to see my dog's x-rays so that I could understand what they were doing and I had a chance to look at what they were looking at. I also received two follow up calls from the actual vet to make sure that my dog was doing alright after the visit. It was fantastic service, even better than my last vet. So for that reason I'm posting my review. Despite this manager's best efforts to make this better...if you're considering this place just go to Kentlands, it's GREAT!! read more

Horrible customer service! We called to schedule an anal gland cleaning and were quoted a price of $13 over the phone. After arriving and receiving the service we were charged $27. The receptionist was rude and claimed it was impossible that someone quoted us that price because they always charge $27 for anal gland cleaning. We came home and checked with my mother who recommended this place. She had receipts of past visits showing anal gland cleaning for $16. My mother then called and spoke with a supervisor who was rude and confrontational. She insisted there was only one price for anal gland cleaning until my mother said she had receipts showing a lower price. The supervisor then said the difference in price can happen depending on how full the anal glands are. So basically they charge you more if they feel like it. Obviously you only take your dog to get the anal glands cleaned when they are full. My mother had been going to this vet for years and this was never explained until today. In addition she spoke to Dr. Katz and he was not the least bit sympathetic to our situation, nor did he care about the rudeness of his staff other than saying "I'll look into it" After the ambiguity in pricing and the rudeness of the staff we will never go back to this vet. In addition my mother has decided to switch vets as well after the treatment she received. After being a loyal customer for years she never expected to be treated so rudely. Customer satisfaction is definitely not a priority at the Muddy Branch Veterinary Center and I recommend you take your pet elsewhere. read more

*This review is for grooming only** We take our pet there for Veterinary services and always have a great experience with Dr. Katz, so we decided to try the grooming services; bad idea. We have a poodle mix; for our first visit they cut his body perfectly but really cut his face too short. We decided to give them another try and thought with specific instruction on what we wanted the cut would be perfect. Well, unfortunately that wasn't so. Our dog was shaved so low he's unrecognizable and further they didn't listen to anything I said after i took care to show exactly how low to cut him. It's like they are on autopilot and give every dog the same cut. We will be getting our dog groomed somewhere else. read more

My cat, Kali, had been losing quite a bit of weight since we moved (and has a history of IBD and chronic respiratory issues, poor thing), so I wanted to bring her in for a checkup. We saw Dr. Challberg, who reviewed Kali's past medical records that I had asked them to request from our old vet, and was very attentive in listening to my concerns about Kali. She took some blood and urine to run tests and did a thorough physical exam. The office emailed me a detailed report after our visit, which was great. When Kali's lab results came in, Dr. Challberg called to discuss them with me in detail so we could decide how to proceed. As a bonus, the compounding pharmacy that Muddy Branch uses is far cheaper than the one I had previously been using--and they even ship the medication to my house! read more

I couldn't think of a better place to take your pet. I've been taking my dogs here since day 1. Dr. Katz is the nicest, friendliest and honest vet I've ever met. He's super patient and is excellent at educating us, the pet-owners; I remember I had like 10 million and one questions before even setting up an appointment the first time I got my puppies and he answered every one of them over the phone...that's so rare these days. He's also not about ripping customers off and will tell you where and how to save money with your pets and is very reasonable with vet costs. I wouldn't definitely recommend MBV. read more

I still stand by my previous review, but I am updating to five stars because of the care and attention Muddy Branch Vet gave my dog in the last few weeks of her life. Each vet she ever saw treated her with care and compassion. They truly enjoy working with pets. The staff was always friendly and helpful. They would comfort me when I was stressed. Sadly, my sweet dog passed away a few days ago. The emergency vet took care of notifying her "primary" vet. Dr. Katz called me to express his condolences. This simple gesture meant so much to me. He and the other vets saw me and my dog on numerous occasions. To take the time to call and let me know they were sorry to hear what happened speaks volumes of the staff. They truly care about each and every animal they see. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet. I've ALWAYS had a positive experience with Dr. Katz and staff and never walked out of this office feeling like I just wasted money. Even when I lived in VA, I drove all the way here to have my dog see Dr. Katz. I've been taking my sweet Rottweiler, Tyson, here since he was a puppy. I love that I can walk into the office and be greeted with "Hey Tyson!" almost immediately. Dr. Katz has always given us great, honest advice when it comes to my dog! Which I appreciate since he really cares about the well being of our pets versus trying to constantly sell us on things that we do not need. Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from about Dr. Katz being rude, but I've never had this issue. He's been genuine, kind, and very respectful. The minute you walk in the door you get a warm and fuzzy feeling and you know that they truly care and love what they do. I take my Luna with me everywhere, even on vacation with me. So its hard for me to leave her anywhere because I know she will be sad and so will I. I was very impressed by the wonderful staff and veterinarian we saw. We brought our little chihuahua in for a physical, we had lots of questions, which were all answered. They were nice, gentle, and very patient with all our concerns. A routine physical cost $52, and you get $5 off if you fill out a form online. The price did end up to be quit a bit, nearly $300, because we had requested blood work, and required some shots. I really like this place, and will definitely bring out pups back. read more
