But overall, in the past nearly five years, we have very much liked our experience at Animal Clinic. The front desk staff is uber friendly, the location is convenient, online scheduling is slick, services are prompt/professional but mostly-- we just adore Dr Zhang. I can't say I was in love with Animal Clinic or felt I had 'A doctor' until she came along. She listens, she will admit when she doesn't know-- but will look fiercely until she knows a probable answer. She shows compassion and love every single visit. We adopted a Great Dane, Marvin, a few years ago. Generally, Marv has been without health problems. Beside a huge benign cyst that grew out of his paw-- looking like a sixth toe. This required surgery and had a few post op/healing complications, as well. (Getting a large dog to stay still and not pop a stitch proved difficult.) The Animal Clinic staff got to be on a first name basis with him. He adores coming in and it is because of the care Dr Zhang and Company provide.

They will scare you by telling you your cat could have kitty AIDS, herpes, and leukemia in order to turn a quick profit. This may sound absolutely ridiculous, but it is 100% the truth! I brought my kitten into this clinic for the first time last week for a general check up. After the vet (William Gay) pointed out that my cat's eyes have some slight redness, he prescribed me eyedrops. He told me my cat could have AIDS, as well as the other diseases listed above, and made me feel obligated to purchase the drops. This is not an exaggeration. However, the same exact drops (Neo-Poly-Dex Opth solution; confirmed by Mr. Gay) that I was charged $63 for by the clinic are available in MULTIPLE online retailers and stores nearby for only $12. I came back into the clinic to raise these concerns and was treated extremely rudely by William. I also spoke to the clinic's manager, who I believe was named Jannette. She was much more respectful, but had no explanation for the disgusting dishonest pricing and fear mongering of the staff. I was told "our supplier charges us much more than that" and when I asked "why don't you order from Petco, chewy, ETC then?" they said "they cannot supply our quantities". This is a lie because I was told they only sell a few every month, and several of those suppliers sell in quantities of 20+. If you are going to charge over $50 extra for an identical product, at least be honest and upfront about it! I gave these people several opportunities to right their wrongs. I said "as a business, I understand you guys need to make a profit, but if you can make this right for me by meeting in the middle somewhere, I promise I will be a returning customer". Instead, I was promptly dismissed and lied to. DO NOT COME HERE. YOU WILL BE LIED TO AND OVER CHARGED.

I brought him in for digestive issues and Dr. Hayes seems to have a magic touch because my cat was pretty calm and stayed on the exam table, whereas he hides at other clinics. Part of this is due to the dog-free, quiet environment, I'm sure. One thing I truly appreciate about the Cat Clinic compared to a couple of the other well known clinics in town is that Dr. Hayes doesn't pressure me to spend a lot of money or throw surprise upcharges at me for no reason. Don't get me wrong, I would go into serious debt for my cats, but would rather not if I don't have to! For example, when my other cat was vomiting, I took him to another Iowa City clinic and, without explaining the costs or purpose, they ran $600 in tests. My cat was actually better the next morning with ZERO treatment. By contrast, Dr Hayes started with simple steps to rule out food allergies and a couple other holistic causes instead of performing every imaginable test. He also talked through a few possibilities to consider. He also recently performed surgery on another cat I look after and it was very easy and affordable and the elderly kitty did great. He's very kind and straightforward and his office is great at following up to see how the patient is doing.

Dr. Gaeth is the best veterinarian I have had in my 20+ years of owning pets…read more She treats both of my cats and my dog. She is always willing to go the extra mile in creative problem solving. We have an elderly cat that has been experiencing health issues for many months and Dr. Gaeth has been very helpful. She returns phone calls and does her research before making suggestions for tougher diagnosis. On top of that she is very friendly and has a gentle touch with my animals, you can tell she truly enjoys her career and the animals she works with.

My girlfriends cat suddenly became very ill. After calling around, due to my vet being closed…read morebecause of the Covid bs, I was given the Richland vets number. I called the office, was rudely told if I didn't have full payment, they wouldn't see us with our cat. He was dying, it was between paydays, and we would of had partial payment only. We took him anyway. We only had 100$ of the about 140$ it would of been for blood work, x-rays, and the office visit. They rudely said, please wait, while my gf stood beside me with our half lifeless cat.. It was their tone, their demeanor, the receptionist acted as though we was an inconvenience to them sitting there chatting..They did go get the veternarian, who was alot more pleasant at least. She took our cat, put him on the floor, tried to make him walk, prescribed him Prednisone, no antibiotics, just a steroid, and did nothing else. Sent us away..no phone calls for a check up to see how our cat was doing, just said he should show improvement within a day or 2. Our cat died a week later..they didn't even take his temperature, they didn't do shit, and our cat is dead now. He was only a yr and a half old and had a long life left. I'm not blaming this vet, but they didn't even try to see what was wrong. They didn't even call to see if he was getting better..
