I was pleasantly surprised with the classy decor & friendly staff. My stylist, Amanda, was super friendly and really "got" what I was going for with my cut. Unlike previous experiences I didn't have to wait around well past my appointment time to be seen and my stylist wasn't manicly trying to work on multiple customers at once. Most importantly I love my new hair cut and color! It was also quite reasonbly priced compared to other salons I've been to in the area and definitely way cheaper than what my friend's salon was charging before she did my hair at home. I'm stingy and lazy with hair appointments - I'm generally someone who touches up their own cut and color between the three or four professional appointments I make in a year but this experience, and the proximity to my house, makes me consider getting it done professionally on a regular basis.

She asks what you'd like to do with your hair and honestly tells you what works. She will then tell you step by step what her plan is BEFORE she cuts your hair so you know what she's doing. Her prices are very reasonable ($35 for a wash and cut). She gives great advice and doesn't overly push product (but I am completely addicted to the Milk_Shake line she sells). Her professionalism is wonderful. I really trust her with my hair. I'm a no fuss no muss type of person with crazy thick, wavy, and typically short hair. She was the first person I went to after getting sick of the trial and error of chains and has consistently given me great cuts that suit my needs and wants. My only advice- call ahead!

They only take cash and are closed Mondays. To top everything else off, Donovan has their own line of hair products. This was my first visit, but certainly not my last. It's a warm and welcoming salon/spa that could easily be on Elmwood Avenue, only the parking is easier. It's a Clean Air Facility where an exchanger makes for a salon experience free of strong chemical odors. And it's true, the place was immaculate, cozy, odor-free and fresh. Denise was kind and compassionate and listened to my concerns. She took time with me and carefully looked over my hair and curl pattern, while discussing the premise of the DevaCurl way of caring for, cutting, and styling curly hair. This isn't just a product line Minks Salon promotes to bring in business -- they really have an interest in and talent for working with curly hair. When searching for a stylist, most salons claim that EVERY stylist in their place is skilled in cutting curly hair, but THAT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. Denise knows exactly what she's doing and just how curls are structured and how to groom them, since curly hair is quite different than other hair textures. Denise is proficient at working with curly hair, and could hardly curb her enthusiasm for creating magic with her technique and products.
