My stylist was Amanda the owner. She did bayalage that only she can see, and she blamed me for it. Washed my hair with cold water and talked down to me the entire time. Her hater toward me was so much for some reason that her eyes were about to pop out at some point while talking. I rather have donated the money than given it to her. Salon was filthy owner was awful. Do believe the bad reviews, I didn't and I'm paying for it. Also do read the terms and conditions on her website because what it means is that you can sit in a chair and she can claim she cut your hair and there is nothing you can do but pay up. read more

Amanda is genuinely the kindest and one of the best hair dressers out there! I am a first time customer and I was looking for some type of extension that would give my hair length and volume. The state my hair was in was very short and thin and Amanda did the most beautiful and gentle hair extensions for me. She also made a beautiful topper to give my hair more volume since the hairs at the top of my head were very short. During my appointment, Amanda was very sweet and talked me throughout everything. She played a video about extensions in the hope that it would make me more comfortable and to develop any questions later on and it did! She was very gentle and thorough with her work which I loved. I used to patronize New Age Salon years ago, but when my friend's relative was looking for new clients I switched. I wasn't really happy, so about a year ago I returned to New Age and booked with Soad for a color and cut. I am so happy to say that she exceeded my expectations 100%!. I was nervous at first as Soad is the youngest stylist I have been to in a long time, but she really listens to what is important to you regarding your hair. She suggested a new hair cut and color, and I have been getting rave reviews from my family and friends. And if it were the Middle Age Salon, well, it would be full of balding crisis men pulling up in their sports cars and such. But it's the New Age Salon, which means only really young people (like under 57) can go here. I might rename it the New Ache Salon, since every time I play soccer, I seem to develop a new ache. I went to this salon a long, long time ago just before I began my UK tour. It is a really nice salon, with really nice people working there, some of the sweetest girls you're likely to meet. Their best stylists (in my opinion) moved over to the Fawn & Fox Salon, but this is still a really good place to go and get your hair done, and is by far the best option on or around the Hertel Strip. I was pretty happy with the cut I got, and like F & F, the price came to well under 100. I didn't get highlights though, just black colouring and a nice cut. I first went to Amanda in March of 2024, The first time I scheduled an appointment she cancelled five minutes before the appointment time due to illness as I was waiting outside a closed Salon. I made another appointment she canceled because her dog died...finally the third appointment she kept. I went to see her because I had lost a lot of hair due to stress (due to my husband passing away). I was very emotional showing her my hair she was very sympatric and ordered me a hair topper and some hair extensions and she put in a bag of extensions about 25. I was so grateful I hugged her! Until about a month later when I started to lose the hair extensions. I texted her because I was concerned she was very abrupt with me saying to call the Salon if I wanted to reach her. This was her private time and she was upset I bothered her outside of business hours. I had such a great experience at the Salon. I was taken by surprise her attitude towards me after all the whole cost was 1250 dollars. I reached her at the Salon after calling at least 5 different times she said it was normal to lose a few. A week later I lost 10 more and text her about the situation she was really rude warning me not to text her on her cell. Her reply was I'm sorry you hate them so much and it was rude of me to Bombard her with a single text...I found that rude since that wasn't the case I just wanted to come back in to check them and see why they fell out a month later. I looked up the cost of the topper and the extension price and she overcharged me. I feel she took advantage of my desperation. Stay away from that Salon she is flaky and unprofessional and doesn't stand by her product and service. A professional Salon would have had me come in immediately and repaired the extensions. I just got a great haircut from Jordan. When it comes to drinks and haircuts, I defer to the professionals. I dont know enough to know what I want. This was my first cisit. I did my usual, "What do you think would compliment my head?" and she said what she wanted to do. I told her to go for it and I am really pleased with the result. It's the haircut I alway wanted. I've been having my hair cut by Jordan for a few years, and honestly, I can't imagine going anywhere else. Not only does she have great ideas and suggestions, she listens. You might not think of that when looking for a new hairdresser, but trust me, I've had ones that don't and there's nothing more miserable than ending up with hair you hate, even if it does grow back. This isn't the case here. I've loved my cut/style every time I've left here. And although Jordan is my hairdresser, I wouldn't hesitate to have Amanda work her magic on me should Jordan not be available. The salon itself is clean, bright & fantastically decorated. And they are quite hospitable here, offering a choice of beverages (including wine!) while you're being styled. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Also, Amanda's dog, William, is a fantastic little greeter. I love seeing that sweet face when I walk through the door. There's never a dull moment when I'm getting my haircut; both Amanda and Jordan are great to talk to and are quite funny. I don't really have a home base for my hair yet. When the last salon I'd been to was booked I looked around for another close by option. I'd noticed New Age before and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. I had a color and cut scheduled with Amanda. She texted the day of to reschedule which actually worked better for me. The space is small and cozy with an eclectic design. I was getting over a cold and Amanda offered me a hot tea with honey from her personal bee hives. How perfect is that?! She also tossed in samples of shampoo and conditioner to make up for rescheduling. Not necessary but totally appreciated. On to the hair - my main priorities were covering my stubborn greys and maintain a length capable of being pulled back when needed. Mission accomplished. Amanda was able to tap into what I like about my hair, smoothed over the color and reshaped an old cut. I was comfortable with her the entire time and I left feeling great. I was to have a few hours on a Friday in Buffalo to kill...and what better way to spend them than getting my hair fixed up mighty fine!? Indeed. I went on The New Age Salons' great web site an made an online appointment. Score! I'm still rockin' the red color I got in November. NOVEMBER. Yes, like nearly 3 months ago. I'm for real...I'm going for the ombre look now (accidentally, and haphazardly of course), so naturally the roots have grown out, but seriously...I got a damn good red dye job up in B-lo, courtesy of The New Age Salon. It's still a really nice color and my hair looks very healthy. The cut? Left much to be desired, and I had to have it fixed at a local (Brooklyn) salon just a week later. My stylist in Brooklyn is not catty whatsoever and actually asked if I had cut it myself. Very uneven with strange chunks taken out of one side. That was quite disappointing and extremely rushed. It made me nervous to have my hair cut so quickly, and I could tell the gal was rushing because the color took a really long time. Cut and all over color with about 2 strands of highlights took well over 3+ hours, and I had to get myself back to NYC that evening. Grimace. Oh, the highlights. Yes. I wanted purple highlights within my bright red hair. What can I say? I was feeling spunky. And then began the long 3-hour process. Some of the highlight foils were still processing and she was cutting my hair around them. I assume this is a major no-no. The haircut showed badly, so I'm going to go with YES, don't cut around foils. She really was just trying her best, I totally get that, but it was bad decision making. And the end product was bad. Not to mention the purple highlights were hardly noticeable, and faded within about 1 week or less. Had I just gotten the red dye all over color job, I think I would've been really, really happy. Five stars happy. The salon is smart and chic. Well appointed, clean as a whistle. Two floors of hair bliss. There's a somewhat cold vibe coming from the staff that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Not unfriendly at all, just a tad aloof. I'm not sure what it was, but it's worth noting. They do have a really sweet dog though! Also, somehow the pricing got bungled a bit, in my opinion. It should've been: Cut with all over color and half-highlights: 90+ for color/highlights 34 for haircut = 124. For what was done to my hair (I have short hair)...I'm not sure how it could've been more than the base price of 90. But apparently it was more like $120 for the color. Weird. So, even though the highlights were faintly noticeable and I got a pretty sad little haircut, I ended up paying $158 + tip. My stylist seemed somewhat new and asked the owner (kind of in front of me, which was awkward) and they came back with $158. IN a rush now (even more than before) it wasn't worth the stress to go through the whole thing. She tried hard, but I had to pay $50 the following week in BK to have the haircut fixed, so this experience cost me quite a bit of money. And i never really got the glory of those great violet highlights. Maybe another day.... Really, not that much cheaper than I could've gotten done in Brooklyn...but I don't regret the experience, and I would actually give them another try if I were a local. Obviously, the locals love them so I may have just hit an off day. It's a great salon worth checking out, just do research and read reviews for your stylists and definitely ask how long it will take if you've got something following your appointment. I'd also discuss price up front, even though it may seem uncomfortable, it is worth establishing so things don't get away from you. read more

I have been going to New Age Salon since 2009. After a particularly bad haircut and dye job from another local salon, I was letting my hair grow back in and debating where to go for my future hair needs. While out on the town, I met Amanda, the owner of New Age, who insisted that I make an appointment with her immediately. I made one the next day and have never looked back. Amanda is a master with hair! When I first started seeing her, I had a blonde pixie. As a blonde, my hair was never broken or looked dry because Amanda always made the best choices for how much lighter I could go, or whether I should just do highlights. I got compliments constantly on the cut and got in the habit of keeping Amanda's card in my wallet to give to people. My hair has gotten longer over the years, and I have never had a bad cut. Not even one that I only kind of liked. I have always left the salon feeling absolutely gorgeous. I get so bored with my hair color, and Amanda always picks something that reinvigorates me and is gorgeous. At this point, I usually just let Amanda make most of the choices in terms of color and cut because she always seems to know exactly what I need to perk my hair up. All the other stylists are amazing too! I had an emergency cut (too much wine and the idea that my bangs were too long) with Kristin, and my hair was beautiful. They stock Bumble and Bumble and Davines products and I have become addicted to both. The stylists often make recommendations about products, but they are never pushy, and you don't feel obligated to purchase anything. One thing to note: they only accept gratuities in cash! I have been going to New Age Salon since October 2010. I always look forward to my appointments there because Amanda does a great job on my hair, and because we have great conversations while she's working. I have very thick, wavy, and often unruly hair. It can be quite a pain to cut and stylists in the past have been annoyed with the time and process that it requires. Amanda has never been put-off by my hard-to-tame locks. On the contrary, she seems to relish the challenge they present. Watching her work, you can tell she is someone who takes her craft very seriously. She always takes a few moments when she's done to step back and admire and analyze her work, making comments about how the cut works with my waves, or how it frames my face. I also find her to be a very positive and energizing person to spend time around. She is doing work that she loves and that inspires her, and that really comes across as you talk to her. She's also done a lot of traveling, and she has lots of great travel stories and tips if you get on the subject. I often leave wanting to hop on a plane and have an adventure. I would recommend New Age Salon to anyone looking for a new place to get their hair done. Love New Age Salon! I was always really lazy about getting my hair cut - I would end up wearing it up regardless of what the cut looked like. That was until Amanda discovered that my hair has curl! Best haircut ever. I found New Age on Yelp, and before I even left the salon, I was thinking what I would say in my [first ever] review. Let me start by saying I am protective over my hair and don't trust just anyone to cut it. Before I went to New Age, I hadn't had my hair cut professionally in 2 years out of fear that some butcher would chop off my locks without my consent. I went to New Age in August needing a change in my 'do to match changes in my life. Amy was my stylist and she was phenomenal. Despite my lack of instruction, she knew what I wanted. All I really said was that I wanted a cut that would give my fine hair more volume, and a style that would make me look more mature, since I often am mistaken as much younger than I am (which will be great in my 30s and beyond, but not so much now when I'm working as a young professional). She went to work and sculpted the perfect coiffure. I have never been so happy with a haircut. Not only was Amy a professional artist, she was also very personable and super sweet. I moved from San Diego, CA to Buffalo and was really worried about getting a haircut with someone I didn't know. I took a chance with New Age Salon and I am now a huge fan. The haircut was PERFECT (a precision cut that most get wrong) and the color was awesome. Will definitely be back. I was leery to try another new place, but three of my friends had recommended it, so I gave it a try. I'm so happy I listened!! Dana did a FANTASTIC job with cutting and coloring my hair. She was so meticulous with making sure the cut was just right and the color was exact. She was even willing to redye the one part where it was botched from a previous stylist. I really dig this hair salon. They have online scheduling which is extremely convenient. There is this awesome dog who belongs to the owner of this salon who is so chill and just hangs around the salon while you're getting your hair done. The interior is very cozy and relaxed. It is like getting your hair cut at a friends house, they really make you feel welcome. The bathroom was dirty when I came though and there were no paper towels to dry my hands. They also only take cash and this isn't listed on their Yelp page so make sure you have cash on hand because they don't have an ATM in their salon. Other than those two little peeves, the experience was great. I have a really hard time trusting colorists other than my usual back home because I always want a particular look and most people are never able to get it right. However, Jordan was phenomenal. She listened to exactly what I wanted and I showed her pictures. She gave me the perfect blonde highlights. I wanted no yellow or gold tones and she made sure it was a white blonde look.
