Selection was pretty expected, nothing over the top or popped out to me, then again i'm not shopping for a new digital camera. Their film selection was really good, glad they were selling a bunch of different types. Service was ok with not too much chit chat but I felt like I could only come to the counter to buy something and not just look. pricing for equipment was expected and their film camera selection was almost empty. If I lived nearby I would come in to get my film developed and to check on their stock ever so often. read more

In email exhange gives as ra eason that it is because some shipment " have ended up not being paid " (even though orders are prepaid when ordering, go figure!) and that some shipments " have gone missing " (if so, perhaps a complaint to Canada Post would be more appropriate instead of turning away customers). read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS SHOP. My costly lesson: you should be very cautious to use their services, or you could be charged dearly and be treated like an idiot. I have a passport photo on my computer previously taken in another studio. I wanted to get an extra printed copy as my daughter's school requested it. Kerrisdale Cameras' website said that a 4x6 photo print cost 39 cents. I called them and asked whether they could print my photo in passport size. They said that they could but I needed to bring the photo file to their shop. I brought the file to their shop and a lady spent 5 seconds to print out two passport photos. I thought it would cost 1 to 2 dollars at most for the job, so I paid with my credit card without even looking at the price. But they charged me $15.67 - more expensive than taking 2 new passport photos in their studio!!! The lady printed the photos without telling me it would cost so much... I asked her why it was so expensive. She said that it was because she needed to cut the two photos. That 5-second work cost around $15... I ended up paying the price because I had some other works to do that day, but I would suggest anybody rethink before using their services. If you do, make sure that you ask the price for whatever you bought there. read more

Staff is amazing making sure the environment is COVID safe as possible and ensuring masking is enforced at all times, not only for their safety since they have to work there day in and day out, but for other customers as well. I have witnessed the staff remove a rather rowdy and uncompromising dummy that would NOT stop spewing misinformation and lying about medical exemption. The staff was calm and respectful while ensuring the customer was promptly removed for not complying. If I had more than 2 thumbs, I'd give more UP! read more

I just had the best experience with Wilson at Kerrisdale Cameras. I phoned thinking I was in need of a replacement lens for my camera. Wilson took the time to troubleshoot with me, and I learned that I had inadvertently messed up the settings on my lens- it had no issues. Wilson then took the time to ask me about the type of photography I was doing, and made a lot of useful suggestions to help me improve my shot. Not only did he save me the cost of ordering a new lens, he took the time to inform me of techniques that are going to save me a ton of frustration in my work. He was patient and attentive, and did not try to sell me anything. He had a lot of knowledge that was specific to my type of photography, and he was more than happy to share what he knows. read more

I purchased a used camera here, it works fine but it came with no box, no manual, no carrying strap, just a charger and a dead battery and it was not spectacularly cheaper than a more recent version of the same model at any large retailer. Buying a new camera would probably have been a better choice. read more

I am a bit baffled why this place has such little stars as my experience with Kerrisdale Cameras yesterday was a solid 10/10! I found the staffer I had to be friendly and knowledgeable. He answered my very nube questions with honesty and wasn't snobby at all. They walked me through questions I had about some cameras, and also helped me recover vacation photos off my defunkt memory card. Also, I had called before coming in and whoever answered the phone was also very helpful and friendly. I didn't browse around all the products in the store, but it was a clean, well organized place. I've been a long time loyal customer to Broadway Cameras, but recently I want to clean up some old inventory, and I'm too lazy to list them myself, I decided to give Kerrisdale Camera a try. BIG MISTAKE! I emailed Krista at Kerrisdale Cameras for a quote on my 5D3, quoted $1500, which is not too far from what I expected. But they'll have to see the camera in person to finalize the price. Took my equipments to the Richmond store for evaluation, the staff there was really friendly. Spent almost an hour there cleaning the screens, finding out shutter counts, testing focus system, and have a good chat about photography, you know the standard stuff. Then the staff called in the main store with the test result for a quote directly from their manager Krista. She quoted $1200, it's lower than what I expected so I wanted to go back and rethink about it. On my second visit, I was ready for the trade in. Got to the Richmond Store again, got out all my gears, ready to do all the paper work, then we found out that the item I wanted is not in stock, however it is in stock at the 41st street location :( My fault for not calling in to confirm first. So we arranged a 3rd visit at their main store on 41st street. Arrived at the 41st store on the second day, found out the gear I wanted is NO LONGER in stock :(( Ok no problem we'll trade in first and sort out the out of stock problem later, or maybe I will just pick something else. Got out all my gears, started with all the paper work, saw Krista walking over to the sales and whispered to him "We have to trade in much lower, try $1000", then she walked away... What? How? Why? It's the same cameras, and I have not used them once since her last quote 2 days ago?? I tried to explain to the sales, but all I got is "I'm sorry, the shutter count is too high, there is nothing I can do". "The shutter count is the same as we tested 2 days ago" I explained. Maybe someone mis-clicked once or twice but really? My opinion did not matter at this time. I felt cheated, just like the time I got cheated when I bought a fake Pokemon card at a night-market 15 years ago... I'm not mad at the low price they quoted me, but the fact they can change their mind just like that? If I didn't have to go back to rethink about it on the 1st visit, or if I just decided to trade for something else on my 2nd visit the deal would have been made, but now they're trying to make another $400 off me just because they thought they quoted too high last time? I can't accept it. I walked over to Krista, expressed my thoughts, and I was given that "I don't care, take it or lose it" look. I really didn't know what to do, it felt like she just want to get me out of the door. I told her I will write her a long review about what happened, she said "sure if you feel it's necessary". So here I am, my first rant post in 30 years. This post will definitely not help me with my situation, but I hope the hundreds and thousands of you out there could benefit from this. I know many of you had a great experience with Kerrisdale Cameras, I agree, I had too, but Krista was a different story. Maybe it's just her moody day? Mixed reviews. I live in the US, where the passport photos are a different size, so when i was visiting Vancouver I went in here to have my Canadian passport photos done. I went through the huge and painful hassel to send in all the documentation to the Canadian passport office and wouldn't you know, the photos were incorrect. Great. They have done a good job of developing really old negatives for me in the past, which earned them 2 stars. read more

I only visit this place because they have a pretty good selection of lenses, cameras, used equipment, etc. There's one really nice person on staff who was my teacher for a photography course. This review is intended for their head shots for passports. Terrible, terrible photos. I don't want to speak of it ever again. Not only is the lighting unflattering, every speck of imperfection was magnified and all of us looked ten, twenty years older. Gross! Needed some photos printed fast for Christmas (today is Dec. 24th!) and Gordon at Kerrisdale helped me order prints on their computer, and asked the lab if they could be done quickly; I had them back within 2 hours, on Christmas eve!! I was in the market for a new lens and because of the selection, pricing and what I thought would be expert advice I went to Kerrisdale Cameras first. What a mistake that was. I left Kerrisdale very disappointed and felt like I was bothering them. I also left with the $750.00 that I was planning to spend and will never return. The young fellow helping me was more interested in what was happening at the other end of the store and couldn't have cared less about my questions. When I asked for his opinion on the two lenses I was considering he offered zero advive and didn't even try to understand my needs. I phoned asking if they had an adapter to fit a filter for a Canon Powershot. I just want extra protection on the lens. The clerk said they may have a an adapter but probably not. To put a filter on a Powershot is like putting gold on brass. Use your lens cap to protect the lens. I was offended. I said I like my Canon Powershot. He shrugged off my comment. Over the past six months I have been dealing off and on with this store. My recent dealing with KC has included trading in some old very camera equipment and accessories, buying a new camera and getting some old slides and photographs scanned into digital pictures as well. All my dealings were with Stuart who was and is most excellent to deal with. He is very knowledgeable in all fields of photography yet not pushy or overbearing. In fact, his suggestion about the new camera I bought - based on my needs - was to NOT buy the most expensive or even the second most expensive camera out of the types I was looking at. Stuart's suggestions were based on MY needs. With regard to the scanning of the slides /photos, the work was always completed well before the dates I stated were satisfactory and I was provided a volume discount which was not asked for and yet very much appreciated. The quality of the scanning - again, not the most expensive method of scanning I could have bought - was excellent and exactly as Stuart assured me it would be. In this day and age it is always refreshing, if not downright surprising, to encounter top quality service at some retail outlets. Kerrisdale Cameras in general and Stuart in particular are wonderful exceptions. If / when I have any sort of photographic needs I will easily return to Kerrisdale Cameras on W 41st Ave. and ask specifically for Stuart because he really is "the man". DO'B read more

I ordered a lens Fujifilm Fujinon Zoom Lens XF 18-135mm in this company with paying about 30% of the lens price. I was told that I will get my lens by 10, maximum 15 workdays. The clerk even said me that sometimes this lens comes earlier. I'm waiting 8 weeks and they even do not know when the lens should come. There is an absolute mess in the main office of the company and they even do not have any information regarding my order at all. I cannot get my money back as well. There is a problem with manufacturing of this lens now, but the waiting time for this lens on Amazon.ca is from 1 to 5 weeks. I definitely do not recommend to order something in this company. I bought a nikon digital camera there in March, the staff were friendly and helpful, they didn't have the camera I wanted in stock, but they ordered one for me and it was there the next day. When the camera unexpectedly stopped working, I brought it in to see if they could help me. When I told the employee there the problem, he told us we'd be better off driving to the service depot in Richmond, but that he could ship it there for us if we were ok with waiting a few extra days. He really didn't seem to want to take care of us, even though I drove all the way there and told him I'd rather not have to drive somewhere else, during a workday... Eventually he actually opened up the camera, tested the camera and battery, and quickly determined it was faulty.. again, he said we could just take the battery down to Richmond, which made me groan some more. At this point, another employee (the manager, maybe?) came over, took the faulty battery, gave us a brand new one for free. Apparently he realized the importance of customer service, that's the whole reason I didn't buy the camera online. I would go back there again, but I'll try to deal with the manager if possible. read more

I spent a good $300 on scanning and printing, now the occasion has arisen to purchase a new high end digital camera. The staff seem reasonably knowledgeable, and if they don't know something they will look it up rather than BS you. However, pay close attention to the money! On multiple occasions, they've overcharged me. When it's pointed out, they cheerfully correct the mistake, but make sure the price on the ticket is the price you pay. Caveat emptor! read more

As a student taking photography at Emily Carr it has been mentioned that Kerrisdale Cameras is a BIG no-no. However, I was getting my colour film developed there for about a year because the price was reasonable and it saved me some time. It started when I took 8 rolls of film home and scanned them to get a completely perfect and line crossing right through my negatives in the exact same spot parallel to the edge of my film. When I say line I mean a deep scratch.. I had dropped off 9 rolls before I had knowledge of this line that had appeared when I was scanning my film and is completely visible to the naked eye held up to light. So yesterday, before I take home my 9 rolls of developed film I ask to take a look at the negatives on a light table because of what happened to my last batch and I was unsure if it was my cameras or their developing or negative cutting machine. Between the 9 rolls that I had developed I shot on 3 different film cameras, one point and shoot, a high end view finder, and an SLR. After, the "professional" from the lab came out to explain to me that I (the customer) was totally wrong because there machine would have only scratched the negatives on a particular side which means regardless of the 3 different cameras I used and the exact same consistent scratch that lined my negatives it was definitely the pressure plates that scratched all of my film in the exact same place, every time. I asked to speak to a manager because I was and still am fairly upset with the situation. The manager echoed the exact same thing that the lab worker told me and then asked me "what I wanted to do? have the machine cleaned and looked over?" I replied with "I am hoping.. that this will be of no cost to me (AT THE VERY LEAST.. not to mention the RUINED images that I will never be the same)." I was met with a reply of "you will have to pay for half because only half of your images are ruined..." As an adult, I was not going to steal back my negatives from Kerrisdale so I paid the reduced fee and got out of there fast. To completely discredit a customers feelings and put a measly 20 dollars before that is an utmost and repulsive failure at customer service, especially from management. It was never about the money, it is the fact that the money was all that kerrisdale cared about when they ruined my photos. I am not going to go back to Mayne Island and get those pictures back, it is impossible. I will NEVER step foot inside of Kerrisdale Cameras and I will pay the extra dollar for better quality results and far better service. sincerely, unsatisfied student (with retail and interpersonal skills) read more
