I recently had to renew my passport and the problem is not taking the picture, the problem is really finding the right person to take the picture and to make your passport look good instead of some crazy bad mug shot that you hand over your precious travel book when they check you out at security of what foreign country you go to. My friend introduced me to this place, and said his wife and kids swear by this place, and remembering this, I went here and recently used their services. I can tell you that the price is about the same as LD, but the level of personability and service is next to none. The amount of knowledge they have as to what type of picture you need is another thing, whether it be for a passport or a certain country's visa, they will know and they got you covered. I had a great session with Mr. Yoo, he is definitely friendly, and even ask, "how did you hear about us?" which is actually really cool. The setup in here is pretty basic, but hey.... he knows what he is doing with what he has got, and can also do digital only if you need that. Oddly on this day the debit machine didn't work, but I can confirm he takes this form of payment as well. I hope to use them again and definitely recommend. read more

I was very impressed by the quality of my passport photo! When my friend and I walked in, we were greeted by the very friendly owner. We mentioned that we wanted Canadian passports and he asked us to pay $20 via cash or debit. I thought this was a fair price especially since it was cheaper than London drugs or shoppers. He reminded us that our eyebrows had to be showing and not covered by our hair so good thing there was a mirror to double check everything before we took the photo. We waited about 20 minutes and the photos were ready! I'm really happy with the result especially the lighting and the colour quality of the photo. I used the studio to take an ID photo. Be careful. 1. They force you to wear really old dirty clothes if they do not like the color of your clothes. They do not explain it to you before you pay. This is to cover their lack of skill in adjusting the lighting. 2. They do not let you check the photo to confirm if the photo looks okay to you. Now I have the worst looking photo. This is the best photo studio I know in Vancouver area and it is really helpful, especially for documents photos. Because of we all need it and unfortunatelly, here in Canada women nature and our need to be beautiful is severally abused, but not in this place. Photographer does everything legal and according to the Canadian lows and government demands but! he does not make us ugly. On different photos i am different, but thous all are me. Photographers in other places are not able and willing to understand this. They justify their lack of professionalism by "legality" . This one -- cares. These guys get the elusive 5 from me. My passport expired this month and it was time to get it renewed. Yelp reviews lead me here. I was in the hood since my dentist is down the street so I may as well get it done at the same time. The store is non descript and looks run down from the outside. The quality of the photo is way better. Way better because they use two studio soft box strobes for lighting, instead of a dinky on-camera polaroid flash that barely lights up a room that a flashlight can. That's what their competitors use. Cough*London*cough*Drugs*cough* My heart skipped a beat when I saw the set up. She shot me at eye level instead of being higher or lower. She knew what she was doing. $10.08 for two properly lit and colour balanced photos. Actually they were slightly magenta, but only a trained eye would notice. At that price, I don't care. I chatted with her afterwards. The shop used to be a one hour shop, before digi took over. They gave up the photo finishing business. It's changed drastically since the advent of digi. They do studio photos now. Turns out her husband worked where I used to work many eons ago. He worked in a 1 hr photo lab and a pro lab. Him and I used the same machines. I needed to get passport photos taken of my 5 week old son. I tried London Drugs first, where I was told that they could do them, but could not guarantee the photos. The lady seemed pretty happy when I passed. Imagine my surprise when I found this place and not only did they agree to take them, but they were so friendly and enthusiastic to do them. The business is owned by a lovely older couple. The gentleman took the photos, and the lady held my son. They were both so very sweet and took their time. While we waited the very short wait time (approx 10 minutes), the gentleman enthusiastically told me about his business and its history. Apparently in the 31 years of having the store open, not a single photo has come back for not following the guidelines for passport photos. That's pretty impressive! I had a great experience here and highly recommend everyone come here for their photos. Found this place via google and yelp. This is owned by a older couple. The gentleman here is super sweet and friendly, I can see why this place has 5 stars. Passport photos here comes up to $12.32 (I included tax already). Hours here are Monday-Friday, 930-6pm and Saturday 10-5pm, closed Sunday and holidays. This place has a lot of good reviews about him taking photos with kids, possibly because he is a grandpa who loves taking care of his grandchildren and it shows! He was able to take me in and give me my photos on the same day. I have been to other places where I had to wait for a long time before recieving pics and only once I've experienced having to come another day to pick up my photos. The London Drugs photography studio (3 blocks down) had led me to believe that I would perpetually look like some sort of dark serial killer in passport photos. I had come to accept this. I was also told that that I had to pose in the awkward mugshot angle becuase the shinyness of my nose had to be minimized. This appeared true when I went to get my UK visa photo last year. I was also conditioned to believe it was normal to pay $14 for 2 tiny wallet sized photos, and further that it was okay that they throw away pictures that didn't work out so well, even though it would be no skin off their back to give me the other ones just in case. So when the time came to apply for a new Canadian passport and a French visa, both my wife and my mother independently recommended the Korean guy at Victoria Photo Studio. Since I now do everything my wife tells me to do, I obliged. Instead of a quick in and out with a polaroid-like shaped handheld against a white wall that they use at London Drugs, I was treated to proper lighting and background features, told to pose a certain way, given advice about what clothes would contrast best, with many many photos taken from a professional SLR camera, and with the best one chosen. He was also well versed on the Canadian passport photo requirements (size, lighting, proportions, facial expressions etc ..). And the results are evident from the attached photo. My wife tells me I look like a Korean pop star in the photo. I don't even know what Korean pop stars look like, nor do I think there is any chance I resemble one, but I'll take the complement and I will enjoy the next 10 years proudly showing off my new passport, which I picked up today (meaning the photo was approved no problem). Since passports are now 10 years long, you might as well make sure you get it right. We were in and out in less than 45 min. Best part was, $21 bucks for 2 sets of 4 photos, one set for the Canadian passport, one set for the French consulate. What. A. Deal. Highly recommend. I have been here multiple times over the years to get passport photos done. The owner is very friendly. He greets you shortly after you walk in. He is great at taking the photos of both kids when they were around 5 months old. The charge for kids under 2 is $12.99 otherwise it's $10.99. He has been at this location for over 30 years and definitely looks like he loves his job. I have never had any of the photos taken here get rejected by the passport office. My son recommended this place and, even though it was a 20 minutes drive for me from downtown Vancouver and other places were much closer, it was well worth the drive! Jim was super nice and efficient. He took an excellent immigration photo of my teenage grand son and got it ready in about 10 minutes. My grand son looks really good on that picture and it is fully compliant to Canada's immigration photo requirements! I also needed the electronic version of the pictures as I needed to send it to Taiwan for legal processing. There was only a $2 extra charge for that. The price for 2 photos was significantly cheaper than other places while the quality was significantly better and the kindness and professionalism of this man is top notch! Getting your passport photo taken is something very ordinary that most of us do only once every five (and now possibly once a decade) years. However, if you relish in getting everything done just right, being treated warmly, and supporting a small, local business, then go to Victoria Photo studio! I used to go to a place downtown that did passport and visa photos for around $5 and I could rely on the photos to be accepted at Passport Canada. However, they have changed their business to focus on visa processing so I had to find a new place. Herman E.'s review decided it for me and I made my way to Victoria Drive to get this part of the passport renewal completed. I was startled to be greeted by a man in a suit when I entered the small studio but immediately felt comfortable with them. I paid just over $10 for two colour photos. As others have mentioned, they use professional lighting so that your photo is clear, free of glare and free of that mugshot effect. His wife adjusted my hair a bit and double-checked me after I sat down. Mr. Yoo gently advised me on my pose and expression. Once he viewed the first set of shots, he felt we should try again and he showed me the photos on a TV near the front entrance. We took another three shots and I told him that I'd be happy with whatever one he felt was best. It's not easy to make time to run a simple errand such as this but I would recommend that if you are able to, give it a try. The five star reviews on this page contain nothing but truth. I could've went to London Drugs, however, I wanted the picture to look like my true self since I was travelling to another country. The photographer was very professional, knew all the requirements and posed me properly with proper lighting. The people working there were super sweet and nice. The price was way better than what LD had to offer for better pics. I am glad to report that I do not look like a gang member in my passport photo. They're open until 6 which is very accessible for people like myself who work to earn money for their vacation. He took several extremely well-lit shots with a good DSLR camera in front of a white wall, chose the best one and had the excellent passport photos ready for me when I returned, as I was in something of a hurry and couldn't wait 10 minutes for them to be selected and processed at the time. I came back here on a sunny Saturday afternoon and it was packed! I guess other people wanted to maximize on the good weather too haha! Purpose of the trip here: I needed passport photos (which are less than $11!). The owner's wife efficiently took my photo, completed the payment, and told me to return in 20 minutes despite the sudden rush of people. Highlight and underline when I say that they show what true customer service is supposed to be like when a small space becomes crammed in addition to printing such fine and quality photos despite distracting noises and loud chatter! And when I did return they were sharp about the 20 minutes too which is a big plus because when it's not busy customers only wait 10 minutes at most for their passport photos. Other than that, the operating hours are consistent - in this case, operating hours on a Saturday are from 10AM until 5PM. Extremely happy with the results and will definitely return again!
