Kerrisdale Cameras is great. They have a wide selection of DSLRs, compacts, and luckily for me, film! I saw in a review that one person was told that they have an in house film developing setup, and then the reviewer got upset that it had to be sent out. They did not lie, as they do have a developing service at their main store in Vancouver. All in all, it's safe to say that this is Victoria's camera destination. read more

I have been purchasing from gear from Kerrisdale for more than 25 years, back since the early digital years. In my experience, they share the passion for the medium are very knowledgeable and won't hesitate to engage another staff member for their opinion. They always seem to have the equipment I want to consider (Nikon and OM) and they have a drool worthy collection used equipment. read more

I had a very simple question (how much would it cost to replace the shutter mechanism on a D7000) and they were able to give me a reasonable ballpark immediately over the phone. Took literally 38s according to my phone. This after a bit of a customer-service nightmare trying to get the same information out of a competing camera repair shop (see my previous review where I got some seriously sketchy vibes). Next time I'll skip the other guys and talk to Kerrisdale first. read more

I've used this location several times to get information, purchase accessories, and for repair work. When I've walked into the store, the staff is often busy and will usually acknowlege your presence, but not always. Once you get their attention, they're knowledgeable and helpful. Recently I brought my camera in for repair. After almost a month I called for an update. I was told someone would get back to me, but nobody did. Two days later I called again and was told that the delay was from the manufacturer and that there was nothing Kerrisdale could do. I got the impression that my questions were annoying. read more

I found myself 2500 miles away without a charger for my Nikon, and the friendly staff at Kerrisdale Cameras made sure to set one aside for me. The staff was clearly knowledgeable and eager to help a stranded photographer from the States, and their commitment to customer service was obvious. I was also pleased to note that they welcomed dogs into the store, rather than forcing them to wait in hot cars. Highly recommended. read more

I have mixed opinions of this store. For several years I have bought all of my cameras and most of my equipment here, because they are very knowledgable and eager to help. And I always like that their camera prices match any other store, but they include a sheet of coupons for things like batteries, flash memory, and tripods - so really they are cheaper than the big box stores. The one thing I don't like is their habit of being out-of-stock on sale items. I have found that about half the time when I go in to use a coupon, they do not have the item in stock until after the expiry date and they don't issue rainchecks. If it were any other store this would be suspicious, but I know they are just poor at restocking in-demand items quickly. But I still highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality equipment. read more

This business is run by accountants and it shows. I once brought a money order in to purchase some camera lenses. It was a significant purchase and so I didn't want to carry cash. It was also over the limit allowed on my credit card. They refused to take the money order under any circumstances. I was told they had been burned by people presenting money orders and it is now their policy to not accept them. In the end, I had to return the money order to the bank and get cash. Those were the last bits of equipment I bought from them. Stock is relatively limited and, yes, sale items tend to be out-of-stock. I guess the accountants have decided it's too expensive to keep things in stock so they'll order if you buy. Also, I once enquired about a very expensive lens. I knew the price of the lens at other retailers and called them to see if they were in the ballpark. I got a quote of the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price), which is about 30% over the retail price others were selling at. After quizzing the manager about it, he insisted that was the price. "No, the price wasn't for the larger lens," it was for the lens I was enquiring about. Needless to say, I bought elsewhere. Since then, I've been using Lens and Shutter. They have no restrictions on how you pay and have lots of stock on hand--everything from camera bodies and lenses to photo printers and photo paper. read more

As mentioned in my previous review, I was excited to see the Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4.0-5.6 IS STM listed on the Kerrisdale's website for sale price $229.99. I completed the order online, opting to pay and pick up in person. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the Kerrisdale store there was a mix up and the staff informed me that the price for the Canon lens had gone up in the few days since I had ordered and therefore, they were no longer able to offer the lens at the sale price. The staff were friendly and tried to help but were either unable to due to logistical or technical limitations (in the computer) or policy-wise, sell me the lens for the price I ordered. *update* After posting my experience online, Kerrisdale management contacted me to apologize and offer me the lens at the original sale price. I was happy to accept the offer and this has changed my opinion of the business for the better. It appears that their are looking at their policy around sales to make sure something like this won't happen again and have confirmed that they take client service very seriously. Love this store, but there are improvements to be made. I was looking for a decent price on a canon 7d. They had a great deal on it. I would rather support local (Victoria) than online when possible. When I went to buy it, they'd only give me 300 bucks on a 40d with a lens trade....that's ok, I can sell it privately. The fellow working in the store was not bad, but couldn't have cared less if I'd bought it or not. He didn't push an extended warranty, flash unit, extra battery...anything...just rang it up, didn't even throw in a 5 dollar cleaning kit. It was a very unexciting purchase, but a good deal. At least online they say thank you. So I'm pleased I got my camera, but probably won't go back to Kerrisdale for the peripherals. read more

I am disappointed that this is the best rating I can give the store. I've made a number of purchases here, but have never been happy with the customer service. It seems they are happy to sell you something, but are inconvenienced to help out in any other way such as answering questions. I really wanted to support a local shop, but after my experiences will be making future purchases online. read more
