Kershaw Ryan has horseshoe pits, swimming for children a wonderful, mostly easy, hiking trail and beauty all around!

I stopped off a Kershaw-Ryan State Park on the way up to Pioche. I wasn't there long but long enough to feel at ease in the tranquil hills. My mom and I were the only people there so it was super quiet. We took a few minutes just to walk around, feel the cool breeze and stretch our legs. We didn't really explore any of the trails of which there are many. This was just a quick stop over. But I liked what I saw. It was a clena facility and perfectly secluded. I can see this being a great place to visit during more peak times. Not too peak though. I like being where others aren't. read more

A beautiful state park located less than a three hour drive from Las Vegas. I came for day use only. The park itself is beautiful and there are many great picnic areas. There is some hiking here (about six trails that all stem from one main trail) so you can choose to hike short hikes or as much as up to about 6 miles round trip to get a good overview of the park. The hiking trails were very well maintained and all are open to hikers as well as mountain bikers. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy a pretty afternoon here. read more

We were on our way home from Cathedral Gorge State Park so we decided to check out another state park since we were so close. Prepare yourselves for this complete canyon oasis in the desert. Absolutely mind blowingly beautiful and filled with so many surprises from thick green grass, gorgeous flowers and huge trees. The park offers a picnic area, a wading pool for getting your feet wet, a playground for the kids, BBQ's, a wedding gazebo, lovely bridge and a fountain/pond with a few koi swimming around. Across the bridge the park features a volley ball court and horseshoe pits. I did not feel like I was in Nevada. I could not get over how green and lush this park is. Like I said, paradise in the middle of the desert. The only reason I did not rate as 5 star was the hiking is weak. The Canyon View Trail is only 1.5 miles round trip, the Overlook Trail is only 0.5 miles and the Rattlesnake Canyon Loop is 0.1 miles so we skipped the hiking. The park offers a nice campground too with clean bathrooms and showers. I would definitely return here probably with a group of friends to hang out and BBQ. read more

This review is based upon a short trip to the park, not a full blown camping experience, but hopefully I'll be able to change that soon. I was blown away by the natural beauty and lushness tucked away in this little canyon. Add the immaculate upkeep and variety of the facilities, along with the solitude from being so far off the beaten path, and you have a great spot for a cheap weekend getaway or a unique bbq/birthday venue. The park is just a quick drive from Caliente, so no worries if you've forgotten something or don't feel like cooking. Facilities include a large covered plaza with grilling pits, tables, and trash cans. If hosting a party, make sure to reserve the plaza in advance. Right next to this is a small splash pool, perfect for letting the little ones cool off, and further up, a full playground structure. There is also a rectangular lawn, surrounded by various flowering bushes and trellis. Practically perfect for a small, intimate ceremony of any type. Further up is a volleyball court and horseshoe pits. The one downfall for the park is the campsites. They appear to be recently added and very nice, including the bathrooms, but because the trees are so small, there's no real shade. But, there is a small vineyard being grown next to the campsites (I really want to know more), and there is a full trailer dump station, which is a huge bonus. read more

I went over there today for the very first time. Quite impressive even if it is a bit small as far as parks. I explored the trails and it was exciting but a bit chilly but worth while for hiking and taking pictures. read more

Best place to relax on a hot afternoon! The kids loved the little wade pool. Great hikes and we saw several people mountain biking.

A true oasis in the desert. The pool was very refreshing on my feet. Kids could stay in here all day. You can hear the man-made waterfall throughout the park. Horseshoe pits, wedding gazebo, BBQ's, volleyball, grass, flowers/roses - just a slice of heaven in the desert. The campground is small and the spaces close together but it would be okay for a night or 2. Almost empty right now and it's a Saturday in July. read more

Totally unexpected beauty, quiet. This CCC park construction is set back surrounded by high walls, spring, dirt volleyball and horseshoe courts up the trail from the playground and water features. We visited in November. Don't count out the short trails. The RV/camping area is at the base and has pull in, pull thru, and park by sites all on mostly level gravel and includes water/electricity. Sewer dump near exit is excellent. The only minus (and the plus too) is no cell service. The park in the canyon closed at 4, so the park is what I would call day use only, but the RV portion remains open 24/7. The town is a short hop away for restaurant, groceries, gas, hardware. read more

Nice place. The campgrounds are clean and the fire pits are a plus. The bathrooms are clean. They have coin operated showers. They have a couple group areas but the ranger said you would need to call them to book those to guarantee the space. Great place if you like hiking! They have a overlook trail. Pets are allowed if t hey remain on leash and you clean up after them. You will need to check their website for fees. hey have several different fees depending on if you are bringing a boat or driving or walking in. The price for us to enter with our car was $7 and they give a $2 discount with NV ID. They do have annual passes too if you think you might go there often. read more

Not much here for a visitor, but a nice short hike and I can see it would be a good place for a gathering for local groups. Camping area was sort of drab, but serviceable if you needed a spot to stay the night. The lushness was very interesting for how different it is from the area. I liked it, it's just not a whole lot going on. With $7 entry fee, kind of not a lot for your money. read more

We were traveling in a RV. This was a great in-between stop for us. Very clean bathrooms and showers, fire pits and great cliffs right next to the sites. The park ranger came back in the morning and was very nice and even took our trash away for us!! read more

Stopped here for one night on a trip between Price, AZ (Lake Powell) and Reno. The campground is only a couple of years old and there is a well developed day use area a half mile up the canyon. The area has beautiful scenery and the day use has gardens, fountains, play area, wading pool, covered picnic tables and some hiking trails. There are no hookups but the bathrooms and showers are spotless. Showers are 25 cents for 4 minutes. Water spigots are generously dispersed thoughout the campground. Host is on site as is the resident ranger. Highly recommended for a night or two. read more

I enjoy this park so much that i had to purchase a yearly pass. I spent $65 dollars and it is well worth it. I spend hours on the trails taking photo's. The canyon walls are spectacular. I visit at all different times of the day,during all seasons, and in any kind of weather. The colors of this canyon are always changing. A must see. read more

We camped here in a 33' trailer on our six week road trip of the West this past October. There was only one other site taken and we had our choice of any site. Most all were easily acessable to a large RV, level, compact pea gravel, wide sites, excellent fire ring, new cement picnic table, all first class. Although there was no hook ups, water was easily accessable with several convient spigots strategically spaced thruout the campground. It only cost $6.00 a night to camp here. The scenery was spectacular. We were surrounded by impressive carved cliffs on all sides wtiht the road leading up to a beautiful canyon that ended in a lush guarden in the dessert. It was pleasent to see green plants in the Nevada dessert terrain, there were different varieties of flowers, blooming roses and even pumpkins growing in thier oasis of a garden. The group area was top notch with a vollyball court nestled within the shear canyon walls as well as several horseshoe pits. The pavalion and outdoor kitchen appeared to be brand new and very impressive. A trail that led one thru the "hills" and steep canyon area to explore and photograph was at the end of the canyon which gave a elevated view of the surrounding mountains and the campground below. The only caution I need to mention is for high fifth wheel rigs- you have to encounter a short underpass on the back road leading up to the state park. I believe it is 14' height clearance and is not wide enough for more than one vechicle at a time. You might want to call the state park in advance to verify the clearance. read more
