Brought in a rotary valve tuba and tenor trombone for general maintenance and lubrication. The turnaround was overnight - amazing. The tuba valves glided better than they have in decades after some spring replacements, and both instruments came back cleaned up and ready for use. They also transferred them from their main store to a secondary store closer to us for pickup with no time delay. Would highly recommend for brass maintenance. read more

I had been in the market for a new soprano saxophone for a couple years, and had settled on one of the offerings from Kessler & Sons last year, the only thing holding me back was testing out the horn in person (my home city being San Diego). Recently I had the opportunity to drive through Las Vegas after a roadtrip, so gave the shop a call. Was able to speak with the owner Chuck to talk through options, and give him a heads up I wanted to try some saxes. He gave me a quick overview of what he recommended, and it gave me confidence I was going to be taken care of. Took 10-15 minutes playing with 3 of their Kessler Custom soprano saxophones in one of the practice rooms, and fell in love with the one I would eventually purchase (Custom Deluxe Series). Here's what I love....you have a question about your horns? Go to Kessler....you wanna sell a horn? Go to Kessler...buy a horn? Go to Kessler...why buy from them than online? Because you can play test numerous horns of the same brand, and compare them against different brands. I had to pick up a new flute for my kid who attends LVA and was working with a beginner level instrument. I hunted around on the internet and accepted some suggestions from friends since we are new in town. After a few phone calls I spoke to the folks at Kessler and Sons who were far more helpful and knowledgeable than the people I had spoken to at the other stores I had reached out to. I play several instruments but the flute is not one of them and I needed an education before I went out and dropped nearly a $1000 on something that might only be used for two years. I really appreciated the time and attention they afforded me and they even offered a discount, which was very helpful considering the impact of this purchase on our household budget. I never write reviews but I always read them when I'm looking at a new product or service. However, today I'm going to make an exception and take the time to write a review. When a product or service is dramatically different from the norm I think someone should say something so here it is. I've been playing trumpet professionally since 1971. Finding a good instrument repairman has become harder and harder over the years. The guys I used to know are gone and the shops where they worked have changed ownership. The instruments I play are of high quality and taking them to the wrong shop could harm them irreparably. So for the last two decades I didn't let anyone touch them. Finally it became necessary to do something so I took a chance. I was willing to travel to Arizona or California but instead I took them to Kesslers Music and here's what happened; I found a brilliant repairman, a veteran of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, Cameron. He took lots of time listening to what I wanted repaired and he came up with very clever solutions. Solutions that didn't change the way my horns played or affect the cosmetic appearance. It's like I just got new instruments. This is as good as it gets. I'm taking my fifth horn there today, a Schilke B7L built during the period when Schilke was tweaking the instruments himself, this is the equal of a Stradivarius violin. In addition to Cameron's efforts the owner of the shop was there giving his lifetime of experience to help find the best solution. He took personal interest in seeing that the customer was getting the best service possible. ...and the price...much, much less than the estimates I'd gotten over the years. The price isn't "professional musicians" reasonable it's "parents with three kids" (I only have one) reasonable. Bottom line... if you need some work done on your instrument don't put it off. There's a great shop with a great repairman and great prices right here in Las Vegas. Great! read more

The overhauls were truly top pro level and each instrument plays as good or better than brand new. One of the tenors had some hidden shoddy repair work (by a different outfit done many years ago) that was discovered and rectified by Kessler - thank you Adam! Additionally, I purchased a new flute based upon detailed info, alternatives, and advice from Dave. It turned out exactly as he described and I'm very happy. Heard about this store from a flute forum facebook page. We are not local so had not heard of them. I called and ended up speaking to Dave Kessler on the phone. He was extremely patient with my questions and took the time to go over different options of flutes for my upgrading my daughter's student flute for college and did not try to upsell me anything. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. Ended up purchasing a flute and piccolo through website. Dave actually called me to talk about shipping knowing that it was for my daughter's birthday and would not get there in time with shipping option within my budget. I recently went to Kessler to purchase a professional alto saxophone. I had my heart set on a selmer, but after trying several instruments, I didn't feel I found the right one. Dave Kessler had recommended Yamaha or Yanagasawa, which I also test played. After playing about 8-9 instruments, I went with a Yanagasawa W020 which is partially made of bronze. Dave had recommended this brand, but I had to be convinced by playing the instruments. I really love this horn! This shop is terrible for service. After nearly half of month of trying I never received service. Big waste of time. I was directed to this store by Eastman Strings because they are a dealer and I needed some some parts for my trombone and you can only get parts from dealers, not the manufacturer. I called the shop and they said I would have to email David Kessler because he's the guy that takes care of ordering all parts from Eastman. Why someone else can't place an order for a customer I don't know, but ok, I emailed David Kessler the exact part numbers from Eastman, who provided me with the part numbers and asked to get back to me about it. I was somewhat excited because I've owned Kessler saxophones before and here I was emailing David Kessler. What ensued has just been horrible really. David confirmed he got my email and asked for my home address, no problem, I sent that within a half hour of him responding. After that they fell off the face of the earth. I sent another email asking if he had any updates or gotten my past email after 4 days had passed. With no reply to my email after a day or so I called the store and asked to talk to David to touch base about it. They asked me on the phone what was it about and I said I had emailed about trombone parts as directed by Eastman. The worker came back and said David's too busy, but he'll respond to you in the next couple of days. It seemed like he asked who it was and then just blew me off saying he'd respond via email. That was a week ago, there is still no response to my email. It's been 12 days since I've tried to get someone to help me with my trombone. I'm just shopping somewhere else, it's just been a waste of my time. If you go here you could be wasting a lot of time. I've gotten no service and the amount of time passed, nearly half a month is ridiculous with no response. I tried two follow throughs with multiple days between. They've told me they would be in contact within a few days or so, which is still a long time to wait and they did not follow through on their word. Other shops would have taken my order and payment the day that I first called. Students are not "treated like professionals" here. My last time reaching out to this store, after multiple follow throughs I'm done. read more

I had a repad job on my Selmer Series 10 clarinet and it was superb. It is the best sounding clarinet I've ever owned. After that, they worked on my 85 year old Buescher Aristocrat alto saxophone. I've owned that horn for 63 years and played it through college. After their work, it sounded and played amazingly well. In fact, I should have had them work on it years ago because it NEVER sounded this good. The low notes, always difficult on a sax, improved dramatically. Intonation surprisingly improved. Key action was more precise. They are amazing clarinet and saxophone technicians. Even more amazing is that their advice on which repairs to do -- and to not "over repair" the instrument was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I do give some recommendations on Yelp, but I wish they had more stars to give for this one. I couldn't be happier. read more

I have had a superb experience each time I have gone to any of the Kessler stores. This one fixed my instrument and I was very pleased, and it was priced fairly. It was done when they stated, everything was perfect. I was kind of hesitant to go to this area of town, I am not now! Worth the drive and I have never had any problems when going to this store. The staff has always been helpful (and i do need help sometimes!) It seems renting student equopment is quite easy as well. I see people always renting when I go there. Just an observation. And the store seems accommodating for renters as well, just another observation. I do not rent, I own. read more

I came back and played horns again, and a new mouthpiece on recommendation from Dave and walked out of the store with both. I heard about Kessler & Son's via many saxophone websites and forums, and I also explored their website extensively (there is a lot of information, about many horns). Everything I read on the forums said that the Kessler's are ethical, focused on helping their customer, and won't steer the customer to things that they don't need. I also heard that they have great prices, and "set-up" all of the saxophones that they sell. It almost seemed too good to be true ----but my experience was that it was ALL true. I recommend that you call Dave and ask him about horn's that you are interested in, and ask him about prices that you have seen online. I am a new saxophone player, but I wanted a high quality horn that wouldn't break the bank, but I knew that I didn't want to have to upgrade later. However, I still wanted the horn to be manageable for a new saxophonist (some expensive horns can be difficult for inexperienced players). This seemed like kind of a tall order, but I called Dave Kessler and he was very helpful, and had many suggestions. I decided to make the trip to Las Vegas from Carlsbad, CA ---- It was completely worth doing! I brought a nephew with me who had also heard of Kessler's (through other sax players at San Diego State), and Dave was completely patient with us as we tried out many horns. Dave was a wealth of information about saxophone brands, mouthpieces, reeds, and pretty much anything we could think of. I purchased a Yanagisawa T901 for less than many people pay for far inferior horns, and the horn is easy to play from top to bottom. I'm thrilled with the horn, and the trip easily paid for itself.
