I'm very happy with AMD. I had 2 guitars and an amp head that all were not working. I'm a hobbyist guitar player these days and the guitars had sentimental value to me as they were 20+ years old. Both Jack and Allen were very honest and explained to me what needed to be done. They also let me know that it may be cheaper if I just bought new equipment as none of my equipment was very valuable. They gave me a quote and it ended up being a little under for my amp. They took the time to do the job right. This is a small business owned by guys with integrity. This review is for 04/12/2024 which is my first visit. I contacted Al thru email coz I have "phone anxiety" and I thought he was not going to reply coz who replies to emails nowadays lol! But he replied and was nice enough to answer my questions. I asked him if could do a setup for my Yamaha Bass cause I have a gig at Cali on 04/19/2024 and I know he's busy with projects and stuff. Just wanted a strap button put on my brand new $3000 guitar he kept calling it an acoustic and it's a hollow body. I already knew where I wanted the button but he thought he knew better and called my husband (A former professional musician with 30 years experience) a "control freak" We had already driven 30 miles into some of the worst part of town I have seen since I moved here, so we let him drill the hole. I arrived to see another customer waiting at the locked security front door. We rang the AMD buzzer and called Alans cell phone. Nada. We waited for about 35 minutes. It was clear Alan was not showing up for either of our appointments. A professional would have called us to let us know he was going to be late or not at all. My Les Paul has some fret buzz and a high action, the neck has gone out of wack. Alan performed a set up with adjustments to the bridge, truss rod and a fret level. When I collected my guitar Jack plugged me in at the workshop so I could check it out. Perfect. Nice low action just like I wanted, zero fret buzz, perfect intonation, perfect set-up. First, I would preface this review by saying this review is not about Alan in any way. I have no experience as a customer with him, as I do my own guitar work on my Strats and such. Jack Secret, the Amp/electronic tech however, has been a colossal disappointment. I brought my Carvin X100b in for service and repair on November 12th. He wrote up a work order and I took a pic of it. Without any inquiry on my part as to a turnaround timeline, of his own volition he stated before I left that he would probably open my amp up that night. I personally thought that to be unlikely, but speculated probably the following day sometime, maybe. So..... based on his parting statement, I thought it reasonable to inquire over the phone a bout a week later as to the status of my amp. I was told by him that he hadn't opened it yet, but give him another weekend. So I did. on November 30th, I called him once again, only to be told he needed another week to get a chance to look at it (!), and he would call me when it's done. Three weeks later, I call him yesterday, only to be informed that he's not in the shop (back problems), and that someone else is digging around in my amp! He told me that he would call me back yesterday to give me a status report. No call. So far, what he tells me and what actually transpires have yet to match. I made decisions based on what he told me. And now I have no idea who is actually working on my amp. Further, I also will have no idea as to his competency as a tech, Since the person I hired to repair my amp isn't going to be the one doing the repairs. A man of excuses that has yet to be a man of his word. read more

I paid for parts in advance. After waiting two months, I was very worried I wouldn't get my amp back. The amp guy that apparently goes by a fake name tried to charge me for parts and labor at the end. I don't think he did it on purpose, he seemed confused. When I proved I already paid for the parts, he lost his temper, and told me to get out. He never gave me the old supposedly bad vintage parts from my amp I requested. It was such a negative experience, I didn't want to test my amp, because if it didn't work, it would crush me. I finally tested it yesterday, after three months. It worked for five seconds, then the overdrive channel stopped working. I knew I would never go back there, even for a free warranty repair within a reasonable time. read more

Alan is an expert at guitar repairs. I don't know what else he personally does, but he works with two guys who repair amps, keyboards and other electronic musical instruments. I've had Alan install two pickups, replace the pots and toggle switch in my Les Paul, install a graphite nut, and install copper shielding. Top notch work. He's completely transformed my guitar. The guy is also one of the nicest people I've met in Las Vegas. I'm a total amateur but he explains everything to me in a really accessible manner without even a hint of snobbery. I learn a lot every time I get work done. He loves guitars and he's made me appreciate mine a lot more. If you need work done he's your guy. His work is spectacular (I'm pretty sure he said he's Garth Brooks's guitar guy - but he seems like he's into heavier music), his prices are more than reasonable (I'm a broke grad student if you want a reference point), and, again, the dude is super cool. After making an appointment, I walked into their shop, explained what was going on, and before I could finish my sentence, Allen had opened up the electronics box and was figuring things out.
