This review lets me know that sometimes the reviews are just that.. reviews. Not etched in stone that will be the experience of all. I was bummed that my mom was basically being FORCED to go to Kessler for reasons that I won't express here.. but the distance and reviews made me leery. Can I say that I'm SO happy this is where she landed. Thanking God for being all-knowing. She was here for a week and left thriving. Plenty of parking, very clean grounds (not an off scent to be found), staff was amazing and over the top friendly, top notch PT--beyond important, etc. etc. etc. I have to also give a shout out to a particular employee in particular, Tiyann. She assisted us in our departure from beginning to end. My mom had a lot of stuff and it would be difficult to maneuver all of that and her dealing with limited mobility. She got bags for her stuff, a cart to help transfer the bags to the car, helped re-organize my trunk to get my mom's wheelchair to fit.. and she did it all with a smile! I would highly recommend this location to anyone who is dealing with a spinal injury (that's the floor that she was on). Thanks again to everyone who helped make this a home away from home for my mom. read more

I called to schedule an appointment for my mother and encountered an extremely rude receptionist. She refused to answer basic questions, was impatient and condescending. This is not what customer service is about. We are calling for help and assistance and need to speak to people with kindness, patience and understanding. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had and I will be searching to go elsewhere. read more

We had high hopes for our mom who had a stroke but if you are over a certain age they just want you out. The OT people are top notch. PT facility is amazing but our experience there was horrible. She wasn't improving to "their standards" - as the facility wants "good outcomes" you see they pride themselves on statistics not patient care. We had a Doctor in the middle of the night remove our mother without our consent, to a hospital for a battery of unnecessary tests. Imagine the fright she experienced unable to communicate from her stroke going through this in the middle of the night. But you see that was the only time we were not at her bedside. We had our phone numbers on her white board and in her chart but they knew we would say no to moving our mom in the middle of the night unless she was experiencing a true emergency. No one called us. The only response was that the Doctor "had a feeling she was not acting normal". Even the hospital said to us why is she here??? She was never the same. If you are in rough shape post stroke do not go there. They only want good outcomes, good statistics. We've filed a formal complaint with the state of N.J. but it won't bring our mother back to her prior condition. read more

I had physical therapy at Kessler West Orange twice a week for most weeks between Oct. 20 - Feb. 19 and had an excellent experience. My Physical Therapist, Kris Westra, was not only very professional, but caring and knew the exact exercises that were appropriate for me. I would recommend Kris and this location to anyone needing physical therapy. read more

This facility is new, clean professional and very accommodating to all injuries. The equipment is top notch and the THERAPISTS are all incredible, especially NICOLE ROMAINE, who helped me recover from Rotator Cuff surgery August 1 and Today 12/5 I'm discharged about 2 months early. I worked hard and faithfully did my exercises but I couldn't have done it without the instructions I received from Nicole. Plus, there is an app Kessler app ( MedBridge) which supports at home exercises with videos and tracking for your personal use. Kessler Rehab also offers After Care to use the facilities to continue the rehab once discharged. read more

I was inpatient at Kessler for 7 weeks this summer after traumatic injuries in a near fatal car accident. the medical staff at Kessler is terrible! The doctors have no compassion or care and they minimized my injuries constantly. one of their nurses actually told me that I had nothing to complain about because other patients had it worse than me (I was in a coma for 4 days, broke multiple bones, in a neck brace and immobilized!). Do not go here for treatment - they are cruel and their Medical staff is mediocre at best (They assigned me a primary care doctor who specializes in vents - she Failed to diagnose a 23 ounce seroma in my leg!) Do yourself a favor and go to Hackensack Meridian JFK or Ruske or anywhere else! read more

omeone I care about was treated by Dr. Benvenuto at Kessler after having had spine surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. When I got a call from him saying he had his "heart ripped out" after being told in an uncaring, hostile manner, that he was "leaving there in two days", he'd "never walk again" and that he was there to "sit in a wheelchair and car", I was immediately alarmed as were other members of the family. Then we saw with our own eyes how horribly cruel she was as she badgered him to leave there and come up with a plan in two days...by the way his next step after learning he'd never walk again became hospice as she not only ripped his heart out, but also his hope of continuing to beat his stage 4 cancer that he'd been successfully fighting for years. Knowing that he was now planning for hospice she lied to us making it seem like such a wonderful option to do hospice at home, painting the picture that nursing care would be available and aids making it seem like he'd receive the level of care he needed and insurance would cover it. We knew what home hospice would entail and it certainly wasn't the rainbows and butterflies she was telling us in an effort to get him out in two days! She came into his room and reprimanded him for changing his mind about hospice as he considered trying a targeted therapy. Who badgers someone like that when they are deciding to live longer or die? Horrible. She repeatedly spoke with us in his presence about the need for him to get out of Kessler. Normally speaking in front of the patient would be appropriate of course, but when the doctor is stressing out a man in his final days of life about insurances and going home, it is not ok! We had to literally tell her sternly to stop talking about home after having been told home was not a safe discharge multiple times. She came back with colleagues after one particular episode where she berated this man who was dying of cancer, and her behavior was odd. She was presenting as "sweet as pie" and contradicted what she said 10 minutes prior. Even the staff there agreed saying this doctor is the hatchet lady because she gets people out and does it in a manner that is hostile and unprofessional. She is not respected. Oh, and how did he leave there? When she ignored the infection that kept him up for hours the night before necessitating that he go to the ER and subsequently led him to getting admitted to the hospital. When he described the pain he was in she minimized his concerns and let him suffer and it wasn't until he was under the care of caring professionals that he finally got relief! read more

I've been consistently impressed by this Kessler location. Family members have been treated here for various injuries over the last few years and we've never found a reason to consider using another rehabilitation facility. Usually, you find a therapist you bond with, and you feel uncomfortable working with someone else if they're not available. That's not to say you won't have a favorite therapist here, but we've found everyone on the staff to be extremely capable and likable; and an unexpected change to a different therapist isn't such a big deal. If you do find yourself with someone other than your regular therapist, the new person is up to speed on your condition, and on your progress (as they should be), but that's not always the case elsewhere. The equipment they have is all state of the art, clean and well maintained. The staff at the front desk are all very nice and accommodating regarding scheduling. The one down side to this location is that they share the parking lot with a Dunkin Donuts drive-thru, which is not a good combination. People using walkers or limping along with canes are no match for caffeine deprived commuters who have no idea that the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru they're speeding into is also a rehabilitation center parking lot. I don't know if there's ever been an actual accident, but I have seen a few close calls. That's not a reason to not use this facility, just be careful. Of course if you were being careful there's a good chance you wouldn't need a rehabilitation center, so maybe it's a sort of Darwinism. read more

By far the best physical therapy experience I've ever had. Great facility in West Orange. My therapist; Michael Buzzell, best physical therapist I've ever worked with (and I've had PT many times in my life at different places). He knows his stuff and really takes his time assessing and treating. I think he is the reason for the improvement I'm experiencing even weeks after finishing PT. I will definitely go back to him for future treatment and have recommended him and the facility to my ortho's office. The front desk staff who answer phones could stand some improvement. read more

Today is my 6th visit Meghan and Julie physical therapist are very hard on me but that's what I asked for they have worked me to my physical limitations but have never pushed me beyond what I'm capable of. Jennifer my occupational therapists is amazing she works me hard as well. The best part is the 3 of them are not just coaches but are my personal cheerleaders when I leave not only am I drained but I always feel accomplished. I'm writing this review on behalf of my Mom because she really wants people to know that she had her 1st knee replacement years ago and wherever she went for therapy was terrible. Which is why she waited so many years to do the other knee. She finally did it and I can't tell you how much better this Rehab center was! Megan was her PT and my Mom literally never missed an appointment because she said Megan was so nice and patient with her! Super knowledgeable and it showed because My Mom recovered way faster than the last time! If it wasn't for the pandemic, I'd go to the facility myself and hug Megan! My therapist team suspected I had a labrum tear. Whatever it was I had been dealing with a shoulder that was sore to the point I could not sleep on it for almost 6 months. I was taking Advil before and after tennis and icing regularly and was still in pain. BUT after several weeks of therapy, the improvement was remarkable. They cut me loose early with an at home regimen to which I have adhered with ongoing improvement. In fact, I slept on it last night comfortably and then crushed my friend in two consecutive sets with no Advil or ice necessary, Thank you Kessler!!! read more

Came here for ACL surgery rehab, with Christian as my therapist. He is a great therapist, who helped me recover from not being able to walk to ending with jumping & running seamlessly. He took the time to ensure the recovery process went as smoothly as possible. The other physical therapists there (Jillian, Aarti, Alexis, Jay) are all great at what they do as well. The rehab process was very challenging, but their support was always there, and it was necessary to make the full recovery. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to rehab knee, foot, or shoulder injuries. The facility is top-notch that is clean, well kept, and organized. I can't say enough great things about my experience here. read more

I had some problems with 2 of the physical therapists and had to end my treatment early due to some gossip that occurred between the two of them. The behavior of my main therapist was rude and angry because she misunderstood something she was told. She didn't want to treat me anymore and I never really understood what happened. I just felt it best to end my treatment there. I wasn't that satisfied with the place anyway. The space was cramped and you weren't assigned your own table where you could put your things and do your excercises while you were there. I have been to other places and that is always the way they operate. I never felt good when I was there anyway. Kessler with their reputation should be able to do better. I would not recomment this place at all. read more

I had knee surgery and immediately started Physical Therapy with Christian. He was always patient kind and knowledgeable. He took time to make sure I understood the exercises and the plan that worked best for me. Without him I don't think my healing process would have gone as smoothly. I was recently able to attend a wedding with no brace and dance in heels! Best feeling ever and without Kessler and the team there I know this wouldn't have happened. read more

this review is not for the actual "Therapy" - but rather the attitude of the receptionist... i couldn't even get past the intake info... i called and was put on hold for a while (i admit i have a "low threshold"... 5 minutes is my limit). i called back to ask when they were open - because i wanted to go in person (so i wouldn't have to listen to the overly energetic hold muzak)... when i called back to ask what their hours of business were - the lady said "we're open from 7am to ... why do you want to know?" and i said "because i was on hold for a while and i thought i'd come in" and she said "i put you on hold because i was with a patient... now do you want to hold or what..". i hung up because - well - i'm not going to "get into it" with someone who talks to me like that. yes... it is the end of the day. yes... i'm a little cranky... but honestly - she could have just given me the hours of operation and saved them a customer. now i don't know how i can go there without being chaffed by her attitude. read more

Am a 70 year old, very active male. Was having groin pain that was giving me trouble when I went to the gym. Went to local Orthopedist who gave me list of PT facilities in the area. Kessler was not on the list. I made appointments with two other local PT facilities and when I explained my problem and asked how they would treat it, neither could give me a clear idea of their plan. I was underwhelmed. Asked my trainer and he recommended Kessler. What luck. They are the most talented, professional PT group I could have lucked into. The first thing they did was an extensive physical evaluation. Then they diagnosed the problem and laid out a plan for fixing it. The PT person said "We'll get you back running." And after learning a serious of exercises over 12 sessions -- I'm back. When I get pain I know how to fix it. And I believe overtime the strengthening plan will eliminate it entirely. Couldn't be more satisfied with the process, the people, and the results. read more

Jillian Rementilla was primarily my physical therapist from June/July 2017 - May 2018. When I first started I needed tons of therapy due to multiple fractures in my legs. In the beginning Jillian asked me what were my goals for recovery and during my recovery she made sure she did everything she could for me to achieve it. I recommend Kessler to anyone who needs any sort of physical therapy because the therapy definitely was everything I needed and more to help me recover and heal. Learning to walk again during my recovery process was a struggle but Jillian always remained positive even if I was negative. She pushed me and made sure I worked hard everyday to strengthen my legs. Every exercise she explained it and made sure I was doing it correctly. Also when I had questions about at home exercises, she took her time to write out workouts and stretches for me to do at home. I can say if it wasn't for Jillian I wouldn't be where I am today. I would like to thank Jillian Rementilla for everything she did for me. read more
