What a great first class! Make sure you take the intro class and be prepared to engage all your muscles. I love that they are so stickler on form! In order to lift heavy you need to do it correctly. The warm up was fun and really helped me use all my muscles. We went over a few different movements. It was also great to start with light, medium and heavy bell. I started working with Andrea due to having shoulder pain from over a decades worth of martial arts and a short stint in crossfit. While conventional PT was indeed helpful, I was still stuck in this relentless pain cycle. Andrea did all kinds of assessments, way beyond anything that made any sense to me, but it was clear from the get-go that she really knew her stuff. While I got a significant reduction in my pain working with her, we found out that I had a labrum tear and it required surgery. She then referred me to the amazing Dr. Khalfayan (orthopedic surgeon to the Seahawks and Mariners), and that could be a whole other review! Anyway, I continued working with Andrea, doing the "pre-hab" before my surgery, and followed up with her afterwards to holistically strengthen my body with the end goal of returning to martial arts. I am now about 10 months out from the surgery, and while not back to martial arts yet, I am able to do all of my regular life activities, workout at the gym, and even indoor rock climb! I still work with Andrea 1-to-1 and attend at least one group class a week. The classes are excellent with top notch instruction and unlike anything you would get at any other "gym". Andrea is a master of her craft and is continually learning and innovating. For people looking to get strong in a truly holistic way, while also increasing their body awareness, and have a great, fun workout, I can't recommend Andrea and Kettlebility enough. read more

Went in using a Groupon. Form was emphasized however once basic exercises were learned they pushed CrossFit style workouts and that style doesn't work for everyone. Most people lost some weight over the duration but I lost the same I do going to the gym and weight loss is more consistent at the gym. Most others reported something similar (average loss about 1 lb a week). At least one person didn't make any progress on their goals (were told it would work for them when the gym had not been helping. "Nutrition" taught was the basics and the promised individual nutrition and workout "tips" were non existent or just very generic. Don't expect any more attention than other group classes - you do what the group is doing you just might be doing more or reps. If you want to learn Kettlebell's, do that. If you want to lose weight this may not be the place for you (especially when you can have the same success for a much lower cost elsewhere, read more

I started at Kettlebility in 2015, joining a Body Transformation Challenge. It was 12 weeks of exercise and nutritional coaching. I lost weight, gained strength and flexibility. Because of the detailed training provided to the coaches and trainers, every exercise can be tailored to the individual student. This means that at all times, I was doing exercise that was right for MY body, working on perfect form and safety for MY fitness level. I was never, and never have been, in competition with any other student in the studio. My sense accomplishment in my progress remains a great source of pride. More important than fitness, though, is the community that the coaches and trainers have built for the students. I've joined and eventually dropped out of many gyms, exercise and diet programs because there was no sense of continuity, no sense of belonging or acceptance. I spent decades in martial arts, adventure sports and endurance racing. After 8 months at Kettlebility, I feel I have taken ten years back. I can't believe no one has reviewed Kettlebility yet! This gym is amazing! All of the trainers are excellent, focus is on form and safety, and you get a GREAT workout. Basically, they offer group weight training classes using primarily body weight and kettlebells as a load. You increase the difficulty of movement as you become more skilled--every class is different, and all you have to do is show up and be willing to work hard! It's a great workout for both men and women and can be adjusted to any level of ability. Of course they have individual training and coaching for athletes etc, but I just go to the group classes. I think what I love is the diversity and friendliness of the gym. You will see all ages and body shapes here, everyone is friendly, and the atmosphere is collegial and not competitive. I'm in my mid-20s and I'm a computer nerd working a desk job. Having never even been to a gym before, I needed to learn *fitness* from the ground up and didn't want to fall into broscience or inefficient routines or injure myself. I just wanted to build some muscle and maintain mobility. So I stumbled upon MovNat online, which led me to Kettlebility. With their new student startup program, I got personal training and a month of unlimited classes, which was perfect for trying everything and figuring out what works for me. The training totally straightened me out (literally, fixed so many posture and form issues I had!) and proved that I'm in good hands. I started at Kettlebility with low expectations to try and gain some strength, but after 2 months of safely perfecting my swing and taking classes, my core has gotten strong enough that my chronic back pain is gone! At 47, I had found myself in an extremely demoralized state. 285 pounds, no stamina at all, constant chronic pain, and a sort of mental paralysis when it came to thinking about fitness or nutrition. On a pivotal day in the fall of 2014 my wife said to me "I am very concerned about you... I think you are going to die". Maybe melodramatic, I know, but It resonated, because I felt the same. In a fit of frustration, of a need to DO something, I googled gyms near my house. I figured if I could find something in walking distance, I'd have one less excuse... The closest gym that came up was Kettlebility. I walked in that day between classes, and found the owner, Andrea, cleaning up. It didn't look like a gym, it looked like some kind of martial arts dojo. There weren't any weight 'machines', but there were hundreds of things that looked like cannonballs with handles. Andrea introduced herself, and I explained my situation. I was intimidated. I asked if she thought she could help me. Her response was instant: Yes. Now about Andrea... I've read a couple of reviews here that reference the "rude women trainers". Here's what I have to say about that: If you want coddling, go see your mother. I have come to learn that making a life change, and adopting discipline in physical fitness and lifestyle can come from only one place, YOU. Andrea and all of the instructors at Kettlebility are focused on form and safe approach above all. Accountability is key. If you aren't going to 'bring it', if you aren't going to be coachable, then you aren't going anywhere. They are completely kind, they are entirely expert, and they are there to hold you accountable. If you're doing it wrong, they will be telling you, and they will be correcting you. If you are part of a challenge and you are not sticking to the rules, they aren't going to white wash it. You will hear unvarnished truth. They are trainers, not therapists (although goodness knows I have also achieved a greater peace of mind in the intervening months than in years of inactivity). I needed my butt kicked, and was willing to set my ego aside. I knew I didn't know what to do. They did. So there's that. I started with Groove Your Swing (as everybody does) learning the fundamental movements that are key to the Kettlebility approach. Although I have read a review that derided it as "not a workout" I can tell you that my 285 pound frame was soaked in sweat, and I was fairly convinced I would never make it through. But that misses the point. This isn't a workout so much as a rigorous training in the basics that you will build on when you get to the real workouts. Without a mastery of these techniques you can't safely benefit from all that is later introduced. And this is a key component at Kettlebility, the trainers are all very aware of every individuals process, and the experience, even in classes is a very carefully calibrated progression to greater challenge, and greater results. After becoming familiar with the process and the people, I talked my wife into joining me in the Challenge. 90 days of nutrition coaching on a Whole 30 diet, along with a commitment to working out at least 4 days a week, as well as additional sessions on movement, mobility, and lifestyle accountability. This is where the rubber hit the road, and the change was dramatic. We put ourselves in their hands totally. During the challenge I lost 48 pounds. My wife lost 40. More importantly we re-calibrated our metabolisms and relearned our nutritional and fitness habits. We discovered that rather than a diet featuring scarcity, we could eat whole foods, prepared in fun and diverse ways, and create incredible energy and vibrant health. The Kettlebility gang was there throughout, closely advising on the dietary process, and also 'leveling us up' on fitness practices and exercise. At this point I've been a member at Kettlebility for just under a year, and I am blown away by the change. Today I am 65 pounds lighter than when I arrived. I have new found strength and endurance. I don't get winded. I don't have chronic pain. And I have muscles !!! I don't cringe when I take a t-shirt off now. Kettlebility is a personal and focused approach to your relationship with fitness. It is NOT the cheapest option, but the value is tremendous. The amount I spend at Kettlebility is still less than the amount I spent on crap I put in my body on a monthly basis. I did their groupon bootcamp and really liked it. The problem came after the bootcamp when I tried to sign up for a monthly package. After two months of non-responsive emails, they attempted to run my card (which had since been cancelled) without my permission after briefly discussing new packages. When I emailed them back saying I had updated my credit card information, I never heard a response. I would have loved to come back and give them my business, but I honestly don't believe how unprofessional they were. read more

I joined on a GroupOn in the summer of 2013. I did the challenge program, which puts you on a Whole30 diet and has you work out a minimum of 4 times a week. It was effective! I lost 12 pounds and felt a lot more confident after it was over. I continued on with a membership for about a year afterwards -- going down to 3 days/week. I think the instruction is phenomenal, but it's quite expensive (over $220/month) and sadly -- many of my favorite instructors have since moved on. The owner does know her stuff, but sadly -- some of the reviews about the "rude women trainers" are true. This isn't the case for all of them, but the 'tude I faced at times for my own credit card getting charged improperly was just not what people need when paying this much for a gym. read more

Not your average gym. I spent years joining various gyms (Bally's, Seattle Athletic Club, Gold's Gym, etc.) with the thought that "I'm going to do it, I'm going to get in shape!". Well, I generally only lasted at those places for a couple of months before I got so completely bored out of my mind that my membership fees just became pure profit for them because I hardly ever went to there. This is not the case at Kettlebility. I've finally found a fitness method and place that I love and actually WANT to go into to work out! But like I said, this is not your average gym. You have to put in the work to learn proper form in order to advance into additional classes. Kettlebility is not just out to take as much money from their members as they can. They truly care about you and your fitness and your safety. They will not let you advance without the proper foundation to avoid any physical issues. The kettle bell swing is a unique workout method that requires a certain level of skill to be done safely. Don't let the Julian Michael workouts fool you into thinking that you can safely swing a kettlebell with no instruction. When I started working out at Kettlebility I could barely move. I was 100 pounds overweight and my muscles and joints barely worked. Over the last three years I've lost a ton of fat, gained TONS of muscles and feel absolutely fantastic! I tried out kettlebells on a whim because I was tired of standard gyms, and I am so happy I did!!! The atmosphere is always positive and the instructors put a lot of focus on safety and good form. It's a much harder workout than anything else I've done but I always leave energized. It's encouraging to be in classes with people of all different skills, abilities, and body types. About 6 months ago I started training with kettlebells at my local gym. I loved the way I moved when working with the bells and decided to purse the StrongFirst certification. I had an injury that forced me to delay my start of training. Working with Andrea on an accelerated yet safe pace, I was able to attend the certification this past June. I passed 4 of the 6 skills test and complete the snatch test this morning in 3:45. I have two more skills tests to pass before the end of July. The only reason I was able to accomplish so much in such a short time frame is the great coaching Andrea has given me. She helped me dial in the key skills I needed in as short a time as possible. I know that she will continue to guide me over the next few weeks to finish my certification. Life changing! I was in fairly good shape prior to a knee and major back injury. I bought a groupon for kettlebility after being in "recovery" from the back injury for almost a year and a half. I had gained weight during my "recovery" and didn't have the best self image. This place and meticulous trainers set me straight...mind and body! I first got in contact with Andrea in October 2014 while on a business trip just a few weeks after attending -and failing- the SFG instructor certification weekend. Best gym in Seattle! I purchased a Groupon a year ago with no real expectations, I figured it was just another fad. To my surprise, I loved it. This place is great - the workouts, instructors, other members, nutritional guidance and most importantly, the results. During my first boot camp, I not only lost pounds, but close to 5% body fat in 3 months. The workouts are extremely effective, I only attend 3 classes a week. The instructors work with you, and will modify any exercise. I don't have knee or back issues, but they really work with the members who do. And sometimes if something is feeling off with your body during one workout, there is absolutely no shame with modifying an exercise for a class or two. They encourage it. The focus is on doing a rep correctly, not 20 reps incorrectly or as fast as you can. I've tried Crossfit and various other Boot Camps and gyms in the Seattle area. Kettlebility is the best. I encourage anyone looking for something new to give it 3 months, you will absolutely see results. You will need to pass out of Groove Your Swing to get going. If you dedicate yourself to it, it should only take you a 3 or 4 classes. And then off to Boot Camp and 3 Element classes! read more

Not worth your time and money! I purchased a deal on Groupon and was not impressed. In order to actually take a class you need to attend a class that was probably one of the most boring fitness experiences of my life. I probably could have gotten a better workout doing Sit and Be Fit, for free at home. I watched the class before mine (bootcamp) and was not impressed. As an endurance athlete, I thought this would be a great supplement to my strength training, I was wrong. There are WAY better options if you are looking for a class and something different in the Seattle area. I ended up not using the rest of my groupon because it was just a waste of time and the coordination (with the owner of the gym) to actually be approved to sign up for a class was a time suck. It depends on what you are looking for, but this was not for me. Save your money. read more

I took the Groove Your Swing class from Andrea, the owner, and she was wonderful! Totally knows her stuff and enthused about imparting that knowledge. Everything that everyone says here is true. I joined Kettlebility on a whim after running into an old friend who had joined (and she loves it) and then seeing a Groupon for one month, 2x a week. I don't think I had any expectations other than I wanted to feel better. I had really let myself go and at 48 was starting to physically feel bad -- achy for no reason, tight muscles for no reason, just overall crappy. I knew I needed to do something and that just doing cardio at the gym wasn't going to cut it. So I went to Kettlebility and I can't say enough good things about it. After just one month I can feel my muscles again. I'm stronger. I'm losing fat. My clothes fit better and are getting looser. And I really like the atmosphere. Non-competitive, nothing fancy here, just excellent trainers who really know their stuff and focus on form, not on reps.
