I love this boutique gym in first hill area of Seattle. All the trainers are so good. They help you with not only cardio and strength training, but also help improve your mobility and functionality. All the things that we need to keep a healthy body especially in this era where we are sitting at the desk for eight hours a day. John, the manager is also really good at finding new and Innovative Ways to improve the gym every day. I love that he listens to members' feedback. I like the no frills environment. I can forgive the cramped spaces and humble layout. I think they even dimmed those fluorescent lights at one point this year, God bless. I just don't understand the cost. when I tell people what I pay their jaws drop. they assume I go somewhere a lot nicer. I guess the 24hr feature is the big draw, but now that I have a normal schedule they could close at 10pm and I'd be fine with it. I get the impression most people would trade $20 off their bill for that. Tends to be pretty empty afterhours, even with the hospitals nearby. the reviews are interesting. I would love if they stopped playing music. for years it was the same playlist that would loop within 2hrs or so. some of my best workouts have been when they had nothing playing at all. guess I'm in the minority. I was a member at Ampersand Fitness for five years (early 2020 through late 2024), and would definitely recommend it to anyone. The equipment is good, all the spaces are well maintained, and access is 24x7. The owner John is often there in person, knows the members by name, and clearly strives to emphasize actual community beyond just managing the space and business. My trainer Chris did an excellent job throughout, was highly communicative and flexible around scheduling, and was able to adjust workouts on the fly to accommodate specific muscle fatigue, various injuries I'd incurred outside the gym, or whatever other factors arose. Best of all, I am in significantly better physical shape than when I first began my membership. Overall I had an excellent experience the entire time I was a member here. read more

When I tell you I love this gym!! Not a person on staff at any given time who isn't willing to halt their day and give you a warm welcome. Looking to sweat your face off and feel the burn! Look no further than Esiel's kick boxing class to lift that same spirit he just broke in that high intensity hour long class. After a workout like that look into a sessions with Eddie to soothe those sore muscles in his cozy massage room. A neighbor gym? Selecting a gym that suits your needs is a decision that is influenced by your particular personal goals. For my goals, this is the best gym in Seattle. Reason 1: Accessibility. It's open 24 hours with a key swipe entry. I usually work out at 8PM-1AM and never feel that anxious feeling that I'm gonna be too late to get my workout in. Consequently I haven't missed a workout since the day I signed up here, and I come 5 times a week. Reason 2: The weight equipment is plentiful. I pretty much exclusively lift barbells and free weights, so I can't comment on machines and cardio stuff. That said -- 4 (count 'em!) racks means that for the lifter that I am, I never ever have to wait for what I want. I'm in and out. Reason 3: It's clean and the members are respectful. Pretty important during these times. People wear masks and whatnot and are generally courteous. Reason 4: Transparent and reasonable pricing. It's all up front, you got options, no secret charges, no hassle. That's how it ought to be, but sadly it isn't always the case at other gyms I've been to. Bonus reason: I pretty much never see the staff since I come in after hours. But my few interactions with them have been quick and positive. I think this goes hand in hand with the good members. I can say, without reservation, that NW Fitness Gym is the best gym that I have ever been a member of. The community is friendly, encouraging, and non-judgmental, the staff is helpful, and the owners are some of the most genuine people I've ever met. I moved away from First Hill over a year ago, and I still come back to this gym every week to work out - that's how much I like this place. On top of that, the gym itself is clean and the equipment well-maintained, and is available 24/7/365 through secure entry. The gym contains everything you need for pretty much any workout - and nothing that you don't. As someone who has been a member of gyms with rows and rows of redundant machines that never get any use, I appreciate the focus on free weights and essential supplemental cable equipment. I was a member of this gym for about 2 years and there's nothing I can say that's bad about this place! It's very clean, organized, and fun. The atmosphere is very friendly & the members have great gym etiquette. I always felt welcomed, never judged. Yes, it is smaller then your average gym, but trust me it has everything you need and is less crowded than any commercial gym guarantee it. The staff here is GOD TIER. They are very friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in your fitness journey. The owner, John, is very personable and approachable and greets me every day. Thank you to Chris & Dee, a couple personal trainers there who took time to educate me about fitness. Both of them taught me about nutrition & several new tips & exercises, free of charge. NW Fitness scores an invigorating neighborhood gym experience. They choose a great selection of equipment that always seems to update. Overall, the costs are reasonable and gym access is 24 hours. I've been a member for a couple years and find no reason to leave. In particular, I'm always impressed with the professionalism and passion of the gym staff. They stoke an atmosphere which encourages members to arrive with purpose and respect. Also, management is very responsive and helpful with concerns. Where to start. I've been a member on and off at NWFitness for probably 6 years, give or take. Their flexibility with membership being the reason I'm able to happily run outside for my summers and use the heck outta their treadmills during the Seattle rain season. This place always feels like fam to me, the folks are beyond rad, the space is neat 'n clean, and they're ALWAYS working to stay up with the latest trends and desires of the people. I've been coming to NW Fitness for almost two years now. I started coming here because my husband did. I love the fact they are open 24 hours and are located on First Hill. I like that John and his team really make you feel seen and valued as a member. It's not another fad or big box gym. They make sure that everyone is treated with respect and feels safe. As a woman, that's really important to me. Also, the fellow members are respectful and courteous. I think other gyms really miss the mark here in this area and end up churning out members. I really like how NW Fitness engages with their members on social media. It's not cheesy or anything like that. They've really mastered the art in creating meaningful connections and distributing content that's relevant. This is how I found out about their new infrared sauna. I love being in the sauna and haven't been in one since the pandemic. This has really given me a sense of normalcy and something to look forward to. This gym is all-around a great place. It packs a high-quality punch in all aspects I look for. Great price too. - Quality of the fitness tools (or whatever you want to call them): great. never had a problem, and they're kept in good shape. No tears in any of the seats etc, and everyone seems to wipe down their equipment when they're done (yay), and there are plenty of mirrors to check yo' self out. There is also a large variety of things to do here, especially for the size of the gym. - Quality of the staff: literally couldn't be better. John and Rasun are always friendly, and create a no-pressure and non-intimidating atmosphere. I've been in training with Rasun for just over a month, and I am seeing results and feeling so much better. He is careful and tailored my workouts to my fitness level and goals and previous sports injuries. He never has me do anything that I am not physically prepared to do. That being said, also prepare to get a quality @$$ whoopin- he's a great trainer because you can definitely go to your limit. - Quality of the other people in the gym: People who come here generally do wipe down the machines, and there are people in all fitness levels here. I have never felt intimidated by anyone here, which makes it a pleasant place to go. I started at this gym in July of 2019 after moving into a building near by. What was great, was that I was able to get a deal when I got a year of membership at once. Little did I know that the pandemic was coming, and I wouldn't be able to get into the gym for the last 3 months of that first year. The owner is an absolutely fantastic guy, and after talking with him directly, he helped me out. He extended my membership by the three months I wasn't able to use, and is allowing me to renew at the same rate in the future. Besides the owner being a completely reasonable business person (rare in the world of gym meberships), all of the staff are incredibly friendly, have great trainers there to spot you or help out with work out questions. Under phase 2 of the King County COVID requirments they're taking great care to make sure everyone stays healthy during their work outs, including taped off social distance areas, limited the number of people in the gym to 13, and lifting equiptment in a seperate room previously used for group fitness classes. I'm excited to be able to start lifting in a private room! Additionally, in early 2020, they upgraded a lot of their equipment and added more racks. By far the best gym I've found for free weights and barbell lifting on the hill. read more

I've never liked gyms. All the people hogging machines, staring at you, and the staff sitting on their rears judging. But not here! Its never too crowded, people do their own thing, and the people who work here are soooo friendly. Tried my first class today (TRX yoga- no extra cost) and actually enjoyed it. I've tried out a fair number of gyms throughout Seattle, and Northwest Fitness takes the cake! It's a small-medium sized gym that is never insanely crowded. For their smaller size, they somehow have every machine or piece of equipment (for cardio and weights) that you would want, AND at an affordable monthly cost. There is also a yoga room in the back if you want a more private, quiet space. They also offer some classes (I've only taken a few classes, but they were all good) and have fun, talented personal trainers. The whole gym and the bathroom are always very clean and they have a shower (I don't live nearby, so this was a must-have so that I could meet up with people for dinner after lifting). I always get a warm welcome at the front desk, and after a few weeks I was even welcomed by name, which just makes you feel at home. I joined the gym in August 2019, right around the time they were switching to new ownership. They have been constantly upgrading and improving things, taking feedback from their members, and buying new equipment. They are also some of the nicest people you'll meet and they post hilarious memes in their instagram stories. During COVID, I have decided not to go to the gym to protect a high-risk family member, so they have allowed me to put my membership on hold indefinitely for a small monthly fee. BUT it sounds like they are taking extreme measures to keep their gym safe and clean. If I felt comfortable going to any gym during COVID, it would be this one. When I moved to the area I opted to get the full year membership, and it was a great choice! Having 24-hour access was incredibly convenient for me, as I had an erratic schedule and would switch between 5 am or late evening work-outs. My primary focus was weight-lifting, and this gym had all the equipment I needed for focused muscle group and compound exercises. They have a full range of free weights, plenty of benches, and squat racks with pull-up bars. They also plenty of weight machines, treadmills, and a spacious area for aerobic activities. The gym was always clean and weights organized so things were easy to find. All-in-all, I would recommend this gym. read more

I specifically came to this gym for a personal trainer and had John push a membership that I didn't need down my throat. If it weren't for me coming in on a day he wasn't there, I'd be paying for something I don't use. You have to be stern and straight-up with that guy, or he will completely try and take advantage of someone he believes doesn't know any better. I highly recommend looking over your bank statements as well. The system is jacked up and will charge you random amounts, in addition, to still charge you though you've purchased packages for personal training beforehand. I don't care how much these other reviews brown nose this guy; he's unethical, will find any way to trick the government and the local people, and potential long-term clients. If it weren't for my trainer, I'd be done with this place of high-mighty people who wouldn't understand how to run a business properly, ethically, and with empathy if it slapped them in the face!. This account isn't fake, as an FYI. Per the review you glanced over, I still work with my trainer and would hate for retaliation against them or myself because they are great. This is a great, all-you-need neighborhood gym with really reasonable rates. It was perfect for me when I worked at Harborview and even though it got busy I never found that I had to wait for machines. Weekends are really quiet there so my favorite time to go and have that extra workout/me time. Alas, I am moving to a different part of the city so had to cancel my membership. If you live or work nearby and don't need the expensive fancy gym to have an honest workout, I recommend this place. It's clean, well maintained, and the staff is lovely. read more

I had been with this gym for about 2 years. I worked right across the street at the hospital and it was super convenient. I am not someone who has enjoyed the big chain gyms in the past. John the manager is great and supportive! I had started coming here after a hip injury and was doing lots of stretching/ supportive exercises. They have lots of equipment that I did not expect for that (stretching bands, bolsters, blocks, foam rollers) . It is small gym but never found it was too busy. I liked coming here on my lunch breaks to get a quick workout in. I even made some from friends with the other patrons there. The only reason that I had to stop coming here was because I moved out of the state. read more

I have been a member of NWFitness 24/7 since they opened. This was the perfect gym for me because my busy schedule makes it hard to get to many gyms before they close, and NWF24/7 literally never closes. Making it easy to go to the gym means I have fewer excuses not to do so. The 24/7 flexibility was great for my schedule and my health! I always found the machines in good order, the gym itself is super clean, and it had plenty of equipment to meet my needs. The rates are also super affordable, and I LOVE the on-demand video classes. Don't let the size of this gym fool you - it's got everything you need and this will be one of the best fitness communities you can find in Seattle. What I love most about this gym other than being able to use it at any time of the day (open 24 hours) is the incredible warmth and feeling of inclusion you feel. John, the general manager, feels more like a friend. He takes the time to know your name, get to know you, and even if you haven't had the best workout, lets you know you've done your best and that's all that matters. I did some personal training sessions and their morning bootcamp classes - and these guys don't joke around. Just moved to the area and needed a gym. I've tested other gyms in the area in similar price ranges: $50-$75/month, and most are rather similar. But this gym in particular was the worst. No towel service, unfriendly staff, very crowded (admittedly it was 6:15pm), poor ventilation, one shower, limited locker space, poor layout. Now this gym does have nice equipment, but only four or five treadmills, a handful of bikes, one bench press, and a smattering of other assisted machines (including freeweights). Another factor to include on the rating: there is a sign posted on the wall about "Yelp rating discounts". Each member that gives a Yelp rating receives a $5 discount. I'm not a gym rat, nor a fitness freak, but I try to workout daily and am not incredibly picky about facilities, but this was by far the worst gym I've attended. read more
