For years, I dealt with crippling migraines that completely disrupted my life. I'll start with the disappointing medical care I received since that is what most people will be interested in, but the biggest reason I would advise you to stay away is the utter lack of competence of the office manager and how she continuously violated Dr. Smith's contract with Cigna insurance which I will explain later. Here are the issues with my medical care: - I asked point blank what the risks were and was told "just a nose bleed." Turns out after the fact I was told that I had a higher risk of headaches as a result of the surgery and would need another surgery to remove that risk (this would be a third surgery). Also, days after the surgery my nose bled so bad that I had to be rushed to the ER where I blacked out due to loss of blood. I had a second surgery that day as a result and missed an extra week of work. - My medical issue was partially fixed but not fully fixed. I needed a procedure from another doctor to get it resolved. - Recovery from the surgeries was brutal. Much worse than they prepped me for. Here are the issues with the office manager. This stemmed from an issue where she required me to pay ~$1,700 before scheduling the surgery and then refusing to refund the money after Cigna said I did not owe it. She avoided paying me back for 18 months despite me reaching out to the office on a weekly basis. - She cannot effectively delegate work to others and she herself is never available. She is the only one in the office I could talk to about this and I must have called the office no fewer than 75 times and only reached her about 7 times. She ignored my emails for months and the few times she did respond, she often starts her email off with "I didn't have time to read your email but here is some information" - Refusal to go through proper billing and insurance protocols. A lead analyst with the Cigna Senior Leadership Escalations group told me that her actions violated Dr. Smith's contract with Cigna. At first I thought she was a combination of overworked and incompetent. I still think that's true, but after about a year of dealing with this issue and speaking with more than a half dozen Cigna agents, I realized she just wanted to take my money without going through Cigna as she was required to. Every Cigna agent told me that Smith Sinus could not legally keep my money, yet she did. If she wanted to bill me more and keep the money, she needed to do that through Cigna and she avoided it for so long, they told her it was too late. Only once I filed a legal complaint through Cigna did she finally issue me a partial refund (I'm still waiting for a full refund that Cigna said I'm owed). - She said she would call Cigna to get it straightened out but didn't until I would ask 10+ times by phone or email. Even after speaking with Cigna she did nothing and I had to go through this process 3 or 4 times and sit on the phone while she spoke to Cigna. Still no action taken on her part to refund my money. - I filed a BBB complaint which Smith Sinus ignored- I had to file a legal complaint with Cigna against Smith Sinus. Cigna says these issues are resolved within 30 days but it took them closer to 90 before Smith Sinus gave me a partial refund due to how slow the office manager is. - Office manager said after a month of asking for it that she uploaded support for the short payment to my patient portal. I logged in and nothing had been uploaded. Upon follow up, she decided to ignore me. She refuses to provide any explanation for short paying me. - I have only spoken to this office manager and everyone at Smith Sinus with a respectful tone and respectful words but throughout this entire ordeal, no one has apologized to me. Smith Sinus is clearly in the wrong which they admitted to when they refunded me $1,200. No one seems to care about all the hassle they have given me. They do not seem to care about their patients and will do whatever they can to take your money even if illegally. read more

Potential patients should be aware of the fact that this surgeon does not care about his performance and patient outcomes at the end of the day! I spent thousands of dollars at that practice. When his work resulted in something that needed to be addressed 'he refused!' He secondly failed to properly and completely remove the stitches after the procedure as well. He and his practice manager are not concerned with patient outcomes. I am examining litigation to insure that he does not do this to other patients in the future. Di not pay a fee up front to have him examine you for in advance of your decision to select the right surgeon for you. You can see its all about the money for this surgeon. Dr.Smith is amazing not only did he sit down and go over my ct scan but he went in to great detail making sure I understood everything he was showing me. After we met another doctor came in and went over the ct scan with me and ask if I had any additional questions. Both doctors were very professional and answered all of my questions in detail. I was fortunate to find this place when searching for an ENT in the Spring, TX area. I was able to get a initial consult with in a week. The kindness and professionalism from everyone in this office is top notch. On my consult they went over all their findings throughly but made sure I had a clear understanding of everything. I was never pressured into any procedure or timelines. They gave me all the information I needed to make an educated decision for myself. After the procedure they would check in with me constantly to make sure I was comfortable and make sure any concerns were addressed. Until now I did not realize haw restricted my breathing was. I wish I would have found this place sooner, everything from sleep to cardio has improved. If you have any sinus issues do yourself a favor and Give Dr. Smith's office a call. read more

I was so trying to avoid writing this review but after calling the Smith center 6 times and either having no one pick up or being told someone will call right back to hear nothing back I feel the need to warn others. Dr Kevin smith is WONDERFUL. I was very much looking forward to having my surgery done by him... he is knowledgeable, friendly and I can't say enough good things about him. However his staff is horrendous. ((This does NOT include the young man who I believe is the PA and the wonderful woman who did the X-rays)) They told me my insurance would cover it, then after paying 500 for a consultation they booked me for my surgery and I was told by his staff I would get the money added toward the surgery. I then get a call that my insurance actually doesn't cover anything (mind you, I gave them my insurance 3 times before this) So after this, I have tried calling them 6 times asking for the out of pocket price so I can get the surgery. No word back after months. They are purposely and intentionally ignoring me at this point. It's such a shame that his staff is stopping him from moving forward with a ready and excited customer ready to pay out of pocket. UPDATE: After this review I heard back for the first time! I was greeted by a hostile and accusatory staff member named ANNA she immediately blamed me and was insistent I explain exactly what I wasn't getting from them only to tell me that what I was saying was a lie. She then had the audacity to tell me that I can't get my surgery done by the doctor basically just because she doesn't like me and will not let me speak with him or move forward. This is my updated review. The staff and doctor are all so genuinely sweet and amazing so I really didn't want to leave a bad review but I think it's important for me to be completely honest to help others in their search on a rhinoplasty doctor. I broke my nose in high school which left me with a crooked nose, crooked septum and breathing problems. I finally saved up to have my first surgery done by Dr.Smith in November 2019. Dr smith did a great job on the reconstructive portion! I've been able to breathe and sleep so well!... but he completely botched the cosmetic rhinoplasty. When I say botched, I'm not being dramatic in any way. After Dr Smith did my nose, I was more insecure than ever in my life. He told me to be patient with the healing but my nose never got better. I Spent days/weeks/months in depression because of how bad this nose job was. My nose looked HORRIBLE!! WORSE than how I came in. I regretted spending my hard earned money here. But because I loved the staff so much, I wanted to give Dr Smith a chance to fix the botched job that he did. So about a year later, I paid for a second cosmetic rhinoplasty done in September 2020. I paid for Dr Smith to narrow my bridge and rasp down the cartilage he added in the previous surgery. It's only been 3 months since my surgery but I can already see that Dr Smith did not do what I paid for. My nose is still crooked, there's still a lump from his botched previous job, and my bridge is not narrowed like I asked. I even showed him a picture right before I went into surgery, showing him exactly what I was expecting and him telling me that's what he was going to do. I should've learned from the first time not to spend more of my money here. I am saving up now to eventually get my nose fixed by a more experienced cosmetic rhinoplasty doctor. Btw: my profile pic is over 4 years old, prior to seeing Dr.Smith. I miss that old nose. I have not taken a selfie since my first surgery with Dr Smith because I hate seeing my nose now. If you are looking for a passionate, caring and detailed ENT, Dr. Kevin Smith is the ENT for you. I feel so blessed to live so close to Houston and able to be seen by him. First, I was surprised when he called me on the phone to talk about my headache issues and my CT scan I sent him. When I got off the phone, I just sighed thinking "I've finally found a Dr. who gets it, and is so compassionate." When I went in to meet him and consult with him, it was an amazing experience from the front desk to his assistant and then meeting him. During the appointment I wanted to cry because a huge wave of relief came over me. Like I said previously, finally a dr that gets it, understands how debilitating a headache can be. I have been sticking a lidocaine soaked qtip up my nose for a year and a half to relieve the specific headache I have. Dr. Smith made me a lidocaine spray to take home with me, my other ENT had absolutely no solution other than to drive 45 min to him if I have a headache to get the spray. That would mean I'd have to make sure my headaches happened Mon-Fri but who can drive when they are sick from the pain and can barely move??? Finding Dr. Smith has been the best thing to happen to me. He is confident that my headaches will be gone. I am excited to get surgery and excited to have my life back. For the past 5 years my headaches have made my life so difficult, I can not plan anything. My kids, husband and house suffer because I can not do anything until it's gone. Thank you Dr.Smith!!! Ok my people anybody that knows me, knows that I love being a reviewer! I enjoy giving good, positive feedback but you've read my reviews than you know once it's negative then you guys know not to go to the place I reviewed. Any who where do I start ? First , let me start off by saying that when my mother and I met Dr. Smith, he was very well -mannered and amazing but once my mothers procedures where approved by her insurance things changed! I'm very disappointed in how this has been handled ! Last thing I heard was last Thursday when I was told by Anna the manager she doesn't even deserve a miss Ana which was very rude and aggressive. Very unprofessional manager who speaks over you and doesn't let you explain until you start treating her as she's treating you. It's Tues and I have yet heard from "Miss Anna." We have given up on this doctor because I'm sure he is full aware of the situation but since all my mother CPT codes got approved now they don't want to move forward. What Anna said was the doctor wanted a payment upfront just in case insurance doesn't pay but yet all services are approved and honestly my mother should just be paying her deductible portion. He got quoted the first time for everything being covered by Melissa but just in case it wasn't it would be another price which that was fine but we waited for a response for 3 weeks. Once I called my mothers insurance , sent documents and pictures and got everything approved thanks to our persistence and the doctors insurance verificador. Overall I give this place a 2 only because we liked the doctor and Ms. Ashley were really awesome but other than that I'm very disappointed about how Dr. Smith and Anna have approached this issue. Very unprofessional this place should be cash only and no insurance because once your procedures are covered you are forgotten and abandoned! Dr. Kevin Smith is AMAZING- he is the reason I have my life back! I was diagnosed with Chronic Migraines- I was miserable and felt like my life was over. I tried everything, and was put on a high dosage of seizure medication twice a day to keep from having migraines. I hated the thought of taking this medication for the rest of my life. I was determined to find another solution, and that is when I found Dr. Smith. I saw his interview on the show "The Doctors", and saw him on the news as well for his migraine surgery. I read reviews on him, and just felt that this doctor was going to be the one to help me! I called to make an appointment, and was able to get in that very week. I told all my co-workers about finding Dr. Smith and that I knew he would fix me- they started calling him "Dr. Hollywood" because of his appearance on all the television shows. From the moment I arrived to his office, I was so impressed. His office is so beautiful, and is the cleanest medical facility I have ever been in. The girls at the front desk are so sweet, and Ann is his nurse- she is a sweetheart. Dr. Smith took one look inside my nose and said for me not to worry, because he was going to cure me. Two weeks later I had surgery, and I have been off the seizure medication for almost 3 months now, and not the first headache! I feel incredible and can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Smith! Words cannot describe how wonderful Dr. Smith and his practice are. My 17 yr old daughter suffered migraines for more than 2 years and numerous other doctors told her it was all psychological. I knew she could not make up the pain I saw her feeling. Saw Dr. Smith on tv and gave office a call. Took him her MRI and it showed deviated septum/bone spur piercing her brain. I suffer from migraines for 15 years . The last five have been debilitating. I live in Los Angeles so you would think I could find help here ... I recently did a Turbinate reduction w an ent ans my recovery was 14 days of migraines. I spent one night in the ER a on a drip. it's very depressing and frustrating. I've done it all.. neurologist, meds, Flonase, acupuncture, vitamins. I wake up w them , I get one after I workout now . It's destroying my livelihood . Going back to work like this is frightening. Let me tell you about thee Dr Kevin Smith!!! Houston own ENT/Plastic Surgeon has changed my life in such a tremendous way. I am 26y.o Registered Nurse, who has not known the true feeling to breathe out of my nose! In recent years my breathing has caused severe sleep obstruction, high blood pressure, fatigue, poor attention span, limited ability to perform high intensity exercises, heavy breathing without exertion etc. I met doctor Smith amongst other surgeons I have met working in day surgery. There was an immediate draw to him due to his impeccable bed side manners and after caring for many his patients they all spoke highly to his skill level and improved results. For two years I was hesitant to have surgery and chose conservative measures, without improvement. July I said enough is enough and scheduled a consultation for August 16 2018. If I wasn't already impressed by this doctor this is what I thought was the icing on the cake lol. His office is very professional and peaceful place of work, excellent staff, above all his explanation of risks and benefits is amazing. He is truly an educator, did I mention he did the CT and nasal scope in office, he did not require me to run around in Houston mess and that is unheard of. Fast forward 8/28, they quickly got me approved for surgery and it went amazingly! I don't remember a thing, and I am here to tell the story lol. He collab with a great group of thorough anesthesia team. I am now 7 days post op and I feel great, I can breath and it feels so good. Min swelling, Bruising, Bleeding, no pain! First of all...He is not on Fannin anymore. That was the Lifestyle Lift which has closed its doors due to bankruptcy. He is now on Shepherd Drive in Houston. I went to the Lifestyle Lift and Dr. Smith did my surgery. I had to go back a week later because of a hematoma. He suctioned it out without any topical anesthesia while I cried LOUDLY. It was pretty clear to me that He was trying to save time and I was unimportant since I had already paid.. This just made the problem worse. It took a long time to heal from it. I went back fro my follow-up and I told him that the right side is drooping. He said, "Yeah ,I see that, but we need to wait until all the swelling has gone down." A few months later, I saw on TV that the Lifestyle lift was closing its doors and that they were only doing follow up visits. I began calling but they would not return my call. I called Dr. Smiths private practice on Shepherd and made an appointment. He assessed the situation and told me he would fix his work for $3,000-4,000 dollars after I spent $13,000 on the initial surgery. read more
