Two stars for the great tasting coffee (not fruity)and the amazing atmosphere and shop inside. It's a slice out of the city on 5th street and it's lovely in there, warm and welcoming, and modern. Young, even. But three times now (hence 3 stars off) I've had impossible experiences trying to order a drink with one shot of espresso, or having a simple drink in an empty store take an AGE. But let's just go with today. I came in and ordered a single shot French Toast latte, which is on special today (Thursday 4/18, 1pm). It seemed like a simple request, but as the barista started to ring me up, he said that they make all lattes with 2 shots. And I said alright, just make it with one shot. He then showed me that they don't have a splitter or any way to give me a single shot. I said oh, just throw out half. He said he couldn't really do that. I said, well then pour half in a cup and I'll give that extra espresso to my husband. No, he said, he can't really just do that. By this point I was pretty frustrated. I said, is this complicated? I just want a single shot latte. That's all I need. He said, "well a latte is the Italian word for milk, and that balance of espresso and milk is what makes a latte." I said I know what a latte is, I was a barista for years. I just want a single shot latte. He said that if he only put one shot, then the milk would really dilute the espresso. Ugh. I then saw that they have 16oz to go cups. This is a first as I've never seen 16oz to go cups there. I said, "oh look, you can make it with 2 shots, put it in the 16oz to go cup, and just fill it with milk to the top." He then said that the milk would really dilute the espresso if he did it that way. I said that's fine, I don't mind, I like it that way. He then said that 16oz to go cups are ONLY for drip coffee. Their standard size cup for lattes is 12oz. By this point I was just staring at this guy like he was out of his mind. I just wanted a single shot latte, and was just about to walk out. I told him just pour out half the shot. Make it like usual in your 12 oz cup and use only one shot, pour out half of the two. Just do it. After I waited for it, got my drink and left, I told my husband what happened and took a sip of my drink. There was NO "French toast" in there. No maple or cinnamon, nothing. I spent $5+ on a drink I didn't want and an argument. The last time this happened, I wanted a single shot mocha. I ended up waiting 20 minutes for a hot chocolate because they REFUSED to give me one shot. I will never ever go back to this place, LORD AHH. read more

Super cool store, incredibly cool! Nice staff. Cool historical building with a lot of cool art work and coffee "gear" for sale. As for the coffee..not sure what it is about upper Wisconsin and Michigan, but people seem to like a watered down cup of coffee, and this place was no exception. I visited just about every coffee shop in the U.P. and every single one served a pretty weak brew (good quality beans though as when I bought a bag and brewed it myself it was really good). This may have also been the most painful experience I've ever had waiting in line also, standing behind two of the dopiest people that have ever ordered coffee in the history of the world, (a befuddled older husband and wife team). Don't be selfish slobs like these people were when ordering coffee or food folks. Here's how it went.. As I stepped in line, a few people ordered, and they were helped, then the next person came, and they were all served quickly. That was until this pair of dopes ahead of me decided to look at the menu like they were archaeologists attempting to discover a new language for the first time. Minutes passed as they asked stupid questions, and waffled back and forth while overly inquiring about things that should be obvious. Once they finally decided what to order..they switched the order. Once the order was switched, they questioned if the price was correct. Then the order changed again! Then they proceeded to count out change. All the while the long gradually grew behind them, and me..the dopes completely unaware the whole time of the chaos forming behind them. I ventured over to KCW to do some homework and ended up staying for a few hours! Soothing and welcoming atmosphere with great drinks and food. I ordered the ham/Swiss/egg brekkie sandwich with their honeysuckle oat milk latte - both of which were TASTY TASTY TASTY!! Large space to do work, study, or meet with friends. Ok, so I never would have considered pistachio and blood orange in a latte, but it was absolutely delicious. The flavors blended well. It has couch and chair, regular table, and outside seating. The people were really kind and took care to be sure we liked our order. read more

Came through on a Saturday morning, got the Forget-Me-Not Matcha (Iced), was crisp and creamy. Great selection, I recommend this if you're passing through. Girlfriend got the Honeycomb Latte, was reportedly a high quality blend of coffee with no artificial sweetening needed, the lavender syrup made it pop. Such a unique Yooper gem! Great selection of breakfast and lunch items, and the ability to substitute gluten-free bread for many of the items is a huge plus for my family and others who are gluten sensitive. Love this place. Hands down my new favorite place to get coffee around Houghton. I've been coming to the area for years now and only recently discovered this spot. It's my understanding that as of my September 2018 visit they had just moved into a new location. The space is clean, modern and comfortable. Free WiFi. Nice coffee. Pastries. Incredibly friendly staff. There's also a small gift shop in the front. I picked up some local honey, but they have a variety of souvenir items and T-shirts. read more

Delicious espresso drinks. I had a mocha and a cappuccino and both were great. They have dairy milk as well as options like oat and almond milk and they ask which you prefer. We also had some sandwiches. Their sandwich menu isn't huge but I enjoyed my "breast for lunch). Friendly and helpful staff, and they seem to be following covid protocols. Stopped in this place on a Tuesday afternoon, tried the cold brew, it was tasty but when I asked what beans they used for the cold brew the employee didn't know. We always pick up a bag of coffee in our travels so I decided on the borealis. It has hints of boubon and cherries. The tiny town of calumet has 3 coffee shops all on the same street. Every one of them looked awesome will have to try the others if we make it up this way again. read more

What a cute coffee shop! It's nice to have a local place to buy great coffee from, and their customer service is excellent. I was given some of their coffee as a Christmas gift, and it was very good, so when we were back in town this week we went to pick some up. We were bummed to see when we stopped by that they didn't open for another 15 minutes, but someone inside saw us by the door and let us in! He told us that he was making coffee in the back and to let him know if we had any questions - impressive customer service. The shop itself is small, but has cute gift items. They had a good selection of Harney and Co. teas as well as coffee pots, thermoses, mugs, etc. They had some cute touristy gift items as well that would make a good souvenir from the Keweenaw peninsula. read more

Absolutely one of the coolest places in Calumet/Keweenaw. KCW has a fresh look while nestled in the heart of historic downtown Calumet. Both the inside and outside have a distinct vibe, unique to any place I've seen in the Keweenaw (so far). There's a great collaborative space as you walk in, a café next to the bar, and the windows let you view their in-house roasters.
