At first I was a little hesitant to book some dives with Key Dives. What was turning me off was that the dives are guided. I like setting my own pace and going whatever direction I want when I'm diving for fun. SInce my wife and I are both PADI Assistant Instructors and this was the closest PADI shop to where we were staying, we decided to give them a try anyway. I'm really glad we did ! We did 8 dives over 2 days, 2 trips out each day and each trip out is 2 tanks. The boat ride out to most of the sites is a bit shorter than some of the shops further north in Key Largo. There's enough time between the morning and afternoon trip to go get a quick lunch nearby. We had dropped off our gear the afternoon before diving and when we got to the boat the next morning, our gear was on board and set up. NICE ! Of course you need to double check it all and make some minor adjustments, but you don't have to lug it around. At the end of they day, the crew takes the gear off the boat, rinses it and hangs it to dry, locking it up for the night. All of the crew and the staff at the shop were really pleasant to deal with. My wife had a minor gear problem and had to abort 1 dive, but they quickly set her up with a loaner so she didn't miss the second dive of that trip out. Back at the shop the problem was quickly fixed and her gear was ready for the afternoon boat. The guided dives ? They are great for new divers or those that are a bit rusty or nervous. I didn't feel like i was being herded or following a drill sargent. My apprehension was unfounded. We will be back for sure ! read more

Amazing Experience, Highly Recommended. The staff was amazing, the equipment was great, and they made the certification process a breeze. Attentive to safety procedures but still making sure we had fun. Well versed in the area so they gave great tours. If you come here, I highly suggest buying one of their shirts. We have been here 3 times now and had a great experience each time. The boat is fairly small. I'm not sure what the maximum number is passengers, but the most we have ever had with us is 12. We have only snorkeled out of Key Dives, but the SCUBA dives are guided. The captain and mates are always helpful. read more

Very safe, efficiently run operation and decent size boat . They take short intervals between dives, but say is perfectly safe and compliant with tables (I have not confirmed). Groups were small and included two guides. Guides helped with pointing out area sea life for photos. Helped out with everything topside such as handling equipment, explaining dive plan, etc. Owner Mike very nice and helpful. Be aware that boat head does not accommodate any solid waste. Time out to sites is around 15 min. Variety of sea life typical of Caribbean. read more

Importantly, water exit ladders are solid with wide FLAT rungs which make exiting the ocean after a dive sensibly easy. **Full gear management by crew allows you to simple walk away once boat docks. Dive gear is returned to boat next day, and completely set up, after proper care and drying. NO EXTRA CHARGE FOR VALET SERVICE. Pricing of dives same as other shops in area. **Dives are limited to 6 divers and one guide in water. Staff performance EXCELLENT. **We plan to dive with them often in future. We went on a 2 dive trip with Doug and Jason. It was my first dive after my certification. The guys were wonderful!! They made me not as nervous as I thought I was going to be. They really explained everything before getting in the water. While we were diving if we saw something out of the ordinary, we could point it out and Doug would write down on his underwater board what it was. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be going back when we are in the keys again!!! read more

My husband and I have been open water certified for about a month. We live in California, but headed to Florida for our first dive trip. We dove up and down the Keys for 10 days, usind a different dive shop each day. This was hands down the best! Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make this an amazing experience! They were incredible. Best dive guide and captain of our entire trip. Hot showers! They even cleaned and stored our gear! We went to Alligator Reef and it blew our minds! This dive shop is The One. Dive with these guys! Ok, so my brother and I got certified in Hawaii a year ago and we were really nervous about diving since we felt so rusty, I was literally doing breathing exercises before the first dive. The crew: Jason, and Emily's plural were beyond fantastic! They legitimately love what they do and it shows, they walked us through EVERYTHING and took the utmost care of us. If I could give them 10/5 stars I would. Amazing crew for beginners and pros; the boat is great and not crowded like some of the boats that treat you like cattle. They break you off into small groups according to skill and show you all of the hidden treasures and guide you through it all. 8th time back to Key Dives in as many years. What a terrific group. Happy, pleasant, friendly, professional. My (then) 9 year old daughter earned her open water PADI card here. Couldn't have been more supportive, as though she was the only person on the boat. Dive sites are terrific. The rides are short, so many great sites close by. This trip we booked a dive at a more northern shop to try someplace new. They called and said they didn't have enough people to go out. Called Key Dives, we got the last 2 spots on the boat!!! Excellent dive experience last week with this shop! We dove the Eagle, Papa Bear Reef, & Alligator Reef (day & night). Everyone from the shop owner to the knowledgeable and attentive dive staff went above and beyond to make sure my family of 4 were comfortable and getting the most out of each dive. We got our open water certification with Key Dives while vacationing in Islamorada and it was perfect and fun. The shop is friendly, low key and very professional. Our instructor (Jen Russell) was fantastic. She is very knowledgeable, allowed for a lot of fun while learning the basics. A lot of our open water dives had us just swimming around getting used to breathing underwater while looking at reefs and checking out fish. We would stop every so often to practice drills. It was like an actual dive trip while in the course. The boat Captians are the best in the business. Safety first. Great knowledge of the local dive spots and tips on being a better diver. There is no reason to go anywhere else in The Keys to dive or get certified in our opinion. read more

I dove with Keys Dives in July of 2013. The shop is neat and well-kept. Their dive boat, The Giant Stride, is well-maintained. The staff is attentive, friendly, well-trained and enthusiastic. We picked this place because "every dive is a guided dive" and we hadn't been diving in five years. We took the refresher course $184 per person includes equipement which is the going rate around here. Our pool section was at the Islander which did NOT have a heated pool. It was quite chilly even with 7mm wet suits on. The afternoon dive takes you Alligator Reef which ranges in depth between 25 and 10 feet. We saw eagle rays, nurse sharks, large green moray eels, tons of fish, fan coral, brain coral, etc. The temperature of the water in mid-december was 73 degrees which felt awesome with wet suits on. Visibility was 35 feet. The dives each last 45 minutes... or so.. could have stayed down a lot longer but the disadvantage to guided dives is that you have to do what the guide tells you. Of course, there are some safety advantages for the inexperienced like us. They give discounts for dive packages. And, snorkeling might actually be alright given the depth of the reef. read more

This was a horrible experience. The owner was so rude, we were asking a very nice employee a few questions and willing to pay for the information and the owner so rudely told him to go take a break. yes we spent money in there and was going to go back and spend more money. We were in the shop paying to get tanks filled, bought a mask, rented a wet suit and T-shirts, we were going back to buy a couple more T-shirts, a wet suit and a dive knife. But I just can't do it. The Tall bald guy was GREAT and the young lady was nice and helpful. I would go to another dive shop if you were asking for my opinion. read more

Best dive shop and school i have been to in years. Group really knows how to take care of the dive customers. They set up thw gear for you in the boat and clean up after, i didnt have to lift a finger. My son got his check dives done with Key Dives and the instructors couldn't be better. Patiently went through the checks and we had fun at the same time. Gotta go with these guys when your in the Keys. read more
