I grew up just a few blocks from this Key Food location but never really came here. I always found this location to be very bland and bleak. It used to be odd to come here for some reason. It was like only the older people used to shop here. The signage was poor and the staff wasn't helpful. However, over the last 15 years I've been here multiple times. It had been some years since I've come here, but seemingly things had gotten better here. The sale signs were more visible and the cashier was pleasant. It's nowhere near as crowded or aisles as packed as the C-Town on 47th. I would definitely suggest shopping here instead. read more

Service is horrible at this store. Charlie, the barely there store manager|owner accused me of stealing and demanded to inspect my bag which I opened and had valid receipts for. In my fit of disbelief and disgust, I threw every item onto the sidewalk and there were two store witnesses. And I have the receipts to prove every purchase. I wouldn't buy chicken from this place. One time I bought it, and it was halfway frozen and had a weird smell to it, and the second time I bought it, and again it had a weird smell to it. I don't know if they are storing it correctly or what, but buy your poultry elsewhere. Never had an issue with anything else. read more

Has the basics, so pretty convenient. They don't seem to be following social distance guidelines. Especially the checkout area is so narrow, and yet they dont leave a checkout line free between them. So the customer end up standing back to back to the cashier. Also half the employees there doest practicing social distancing, brushing past people when they walk by. read more

For this neighborhood it seems like a great option and well stocked with fresh fruits & veggies, decent selection of grocery staples and far better prices on groceries than what I'm used to in California. Lots of registers open, nice staff and good prices. Not far from the 45th Street subway station so convenient for those that might need to travel a bit further. My friend and I went in for ingredients to make a big salad and left happy with fresh arugula, grape tomatoes, cucumbers and cheese. It had everything we needed at great prices. Seems like a well stocked and necessary spot for the Sunset Park neighborhood. Great for staples and even had some of the more unique items you don't get everywhere like veggie chips and fig infused balsamic vinegar. read more

I've been living in Sunset Park for 10 years and this store has improved a lot in the past few. It's definitely a reflection of the variety of folks in the neighborhood. They now stock better produce and lots of organic items. I can rely on it now for last minute goods. I do most of our shopping at the Park Slope coop. read more

This store smells disgusting! When you open the dairy case you are hit with a waft of putrid odor. Same with the produce and the meat. I have NEVER seen them clean this place, You can smell the rot and bacteria in there . Once I had to use the restroom upstairs and the filth was beyond belief. And this is where the employees hang out who handle our food. Everything has to be taken OUT of the cases and they MUST wash and sanitize. This Key Food is getting away with endangerment of the people. This should be declared a HEALTH EMERGENCY. Even the outside is horrible with garbage strewn all over the sidewalk in front and visable dirt and slimy stuff on the doors and entrance. The city should INSPECT GROCERY STORES LIKE THEY DO RESTAURANTS. This store must be CLOSED DOWN immediately ! and professionally cleaned and disinfected before they are allowed to ever reopen. I am not sure what's the relationship between our side recycle machine and this market. Every time I come to recycle the bottle, the bins are always full, there's no body taking care of that at all. Which recycling to them means little and they don't care at all I guess. Today again I am here to recycle the bottle. The manager he says he is the manager. The that's how he treated the customer. I carry big bag of bottle to the market tell him the bin is full, he went out side kick the bin several time says it fixed. I have inserted 3 bottles and again the bin is full, I went inside again ask him, he did same thing Iike he did at first time. Inattentive customers let their bored kids poke the carvel cakes & bakery goods. And please please- key foods really should have an onsite repair person to fix the recycling machines. I think the glass bottle recycling machine malfunctions too often. I try to be eco and recycle & lugging all that to the store is a pain when I can't get my transaction done. Can you guys just accept them at the register or back office. I'd give it higher ranking if you had more staff to take care of that . This Key Food is definitely smaller than other locations; however, since it's close to home I feel like I don't have much of a choice. They have free delivery with a purchase of $50 or more. I've utilized this service a few times but unfortunately it took quite a few hours for my groceries to arrive. One time I even called the store to see if I could track my order. The girl on the phone was clueless and no help at all. Overall the customer service here is pretty good and consistent. They don't carry many items that would be found in other grocery stores but they get the job done. read more

This is a grocery I go to as a last resort. Say my car breaks down and I'm on my last can of pineapple. The workers are rude and unprofessional, the produce is horrendous, and there always seem to be too many people crowding the front entrance. It truly disgusts me as a grocery store and I'm surprised people settle with this sub-par establishment. My marshmallows were all stuck together as they were probably melted in the shipping process and their frozen section is not very appealing. Pretty good selection, and glad to see they are including more organic produce and dairy. The staff is usually pretty friendly, if you are too. I don't see why everyone so disapproves: it's a Key Foods, not a Whole Foods, not a Trader Joe's, not even a Food Emporium. Just about everything you need will be here, at very good prices. I especially like: * Pre-washed salad greens--arugula, et al, from $1.15 * Their Goya section, including weird stuff like guava paste and canned mangoes * Lots of pasta! Lots of canned stuff! * Produce isn't great, but it sure does the trick. * Great frozen section! Basically, don't go out of your way. But I think this is (contrary to other reviews) just as clean and fine as any Key Foods. Of course it's not worth a trip out of your way, and the hours suck (see below). Two cashiers ought to be able to get six customers checked out reasonably quickly. Not here. And it's not the cashiers' fault - they're doing their best, and trying to remain pleasant. But the disorganization of this Key Foods is their undoing. Prices for items are not in the computer system, forcing them to walk back into the aisles to check prices. The phone rings and a cashier has to leave her position in the middle of a sale to answer it, then call for the manager on the intercom. Where is the manager? Nowhere to be seen. Probably hiding because he's ashamed of how poorly he's set things up here. I'd suffer through the inefficiency at checkout if it saved me a few bucks, but prices here are typical supermarket prices. There's no great savings from shopping at Key Food. A great produce aisle could be their redemption,.but no. They have a smallish, uninspired selection of veggies. Where to begin, I don't think the health department has stepped foot into this place people call a grocery store. For starters it smell like cat pee and rotten produce (which I have never had the stomach to try). It's a grocery store. It's a decent size with an okay selection but some items are overpriced (fresh stuff cheaper than the frozen, Annies fairly priced, cheap brands overpriced) There is no deli area. I did notice a lot of the produce does not last very long and was moldy in just a few days. It's also annoying that you can't leave the store with your cart and have to carry bags outside. On 6/12/20 I was about to purchased 2 bottles of smart water. They were on sale, 2 for $ 3.00. When I got to the register despite using my Key Food card the sales price didn't pop up. The female at the register claimed that they were not on sale. I informed her that their is a sign indicating that the items are on sale, but to no avail. She told me that she didn't have time for this, so I spoke to the manager. When I spoke to the manager he confirmed that the smart waters were on sale 2 for $3.00 after I showed him the sign. Then he said that Key Food is a big supermarket, the employees are not suppose to know all the prices, and asked me why am I complaining. After that he walked away from me. I thought he was rude, and condescending. So I didn't buy the smart waters. Every time I go to this Key Food I feel like I'm having a stroke. Cheap items stocked and sold for the absolute highest price, too stupid (or greedy) to cut the dozen egg crates in half when they run out of six packs forcing people to spend twice the money and likely waste eggs they don't need. Zero self checkout, zero deli section- store looked like it stepped out of the early 1980s until six months ago when they decided to get some new aisle signs and replace some of the fridges that never worked (spoilers: some of them still do not and yet product is placed in them) so now we're at least up to 1995. The produce is the WORST, often moldy or wilting or circled by pests by the time it gets put on a shelf. The meat in the cases are browning and they will mix browning meat with fresh meat to hide it!!!!! And again, all at the highest possible price with the crappiest possible selection. Bougie grocery stores in Manhattan have cheaper prices and higher quality goods than this Key Food. I hate this place, and I hate myself every time I have to go into it. This Key Food exists exclusively to punish every single person who lives in Sunset Park. What a sh*thole. read more

I can't believe some of these reviews. I just had to write one. I can't believe people think this place is expensive. Sure next to Pathmark or Stop and Shop it may be a little higher in price, especially for somethings like cereal, but I have found a lot of things in here much cheaper than at PathMark. They have great sales though, and if you stick to sale items you'd be surprised how much you can save. The meat selection has been fresh when I go, and they even have angus ground beef - score! I hate shitty ground beef, they offer a nice range. It's small, not super clean like you can eat off the floor, but I haven't seen any rats or roaches either. Compared to C-town (47th and 5th) this place is heaven! They do run out of things on sale, so you have to keep up with the circular. I actually signed up for email updates so I don't miss anymore buy one get one free ice cream deals. They do BOGO free deals a lot in that store. On good stuff too not just the KF brand! The staff is always friendly and helpful if you need them, and they don't bother you if you don't. The cashiers are great, they aren't all smiley and chatty but they are polite, ring you up and bag your stuff pretty quickly. It's just annoying when they have to stop and walk over to empty their tills. A manager should really come around and do that for them because seriously it slows everything down when there's only 3 lines and tons of people waiting. Minus a star for the produce department. I seriously wait to hit up a super market or farmer's market for some produce, especially fruit. It just looks so miserable on those shelves I couldn't bear to bring them home. It took forever to find a good head of iceberg lettuce! If you need any of the following produce you should be safe though: Potatoes, onions, garlic, tomatoes (search!) green peppers, mushrooms. All in all much better store than these reviews are making it seem and it's really the only grocery store that is decent in this area. Sadly I wish they stayed open till like 10 at least though. Since the new Keyfood upgrade I officially love this store. I remember asking if they had some items in stock and they told me no, but a month later I noticed they started stocking what I had asked for! Amazing service, they have been in the neighborhood for years and years, and the staff here is fantastic. The cashiers can be pretty rude, but there are three girls I always go to and avoid the snotty bitches. I would rather spend an extra 10 minutes in line, than deal with short change, wrong prices, hassle, and attitude. Wish the staff wore name tags so I could compliment the great ones to the manager and corporate offices. Some of them really go above and beyond and it is really appreciated by this busy mother! The guys who work the aisles are the best, very polite, helpful, and they actually know where everything in the store is located unlike other stores. read more

A quite well-run supermarket, with good produce, a good selection of packaged goods, and basically friendly hard-working staff. Oddly, one large corner of the store on the Fifth Avenue side is devoted to packaged bread and baking products, whereas a prepared foods and deli section would make much more money per square foot in this fast-changing neighborhood. This place definitely needs an updated reiview. Although I'm not 100% satisfied with their produce section (veggies aren't bad but I stay away from the fruits...yes they do carry the organic variety), I find myself going to Whole Foods and Food Emporium a lot less recently. Their dairy section is pretty good, you can find organic yogurt, eggs, milk and kefir here. They've improved the selection of non-dairy berverages drastically, offering organic soy, almond, rice and coconut milk. They also have organic tofu. You can't expect too much, it is a Key Foods afterall, but I did happen to find Newman's Own Organic Fig cookies for 3.99! read more
